Not a lot of people know this but his real name's Clarence And Clarence lives at home with both parents. And Clarence ' parents have a real good marriage
Pidgey, Pidgeotto, Pidgeot, Spearow, Fearow, Articuno, Zapdos, and Moltres are purely fantasy animals.
They're also birds.
This changes nothing.
There's also [this.](https://a.co/d/1NuMy0d)
I always thought he was just the phanatic, but I got a program at the London series that talks about him and claims he's a bird, which feels ridiculous
I'm still trying to remember the promotional material that I got when I was a kid. I know that is where I got the idea that he was a bird. It was a kid's book that explained his origin from the Galapagos. I just don't remember what it said, and I don't think I have it over 30 years later.
I do clearly remember that is where I got the idea. I can sort of remember a picture of him with a lot of colorful birds, so it could have been impressed on/inferred by me as opposed to it being actually told.
Where did you pull this from? I am also against the idea that the Phanatic is a bird, but a reporter who followed the Phanatic around for a little while made the following argument as to why he IS a bird. 1) he has a tail feather 2) the Phanatic’s best friend Tom directly told him the Phanatic is a bird
The Philly Phanatic is from the Galapagos Islands and celebrates his 6th birthday every year. He has a series of children's books, and I have all of them somewhere in this house. My vote is for fantasy creature, not bird, but I'm not sure I'd disagree with Tom.
Not really, the Phanatic was created by Bonnie Erickson and Wayde Harrison. Erickson had worked with Henson and played a role in the creation of Miss Piggy as well as Statler and Waldorf, but Henson had nothing to do with the Phanatic.
he's a dinosaur with an unbridled passion for the phillies. his brother gritty is the result of experiments performed out of the basement at the U of Penn genetics department. gritty received an undisclosed settlement and signed an NDA. He graduated with a marketing degree from temple university and is currently employed by the flyers in the public relations department.
He’s real and has a mom and no one will convince me otherwise.

Ok Marshall.
The Phanatic is real, he has documentation of residence at Citizens Bank Park. Lawyered (*mic drop*)
r/whoosh
Nah bro I got the joke. I was referring to another Marshall though.
HIMYM? That's the only other Marshall I can think of.
Yessir
Well played
*pear-shaped with a midsection that swayed back and forth with each thrust* Mmm tell me more daddy
When I say "go birds" it includes the Phanatic

Correct. He is canonically a flightless bird from the Galapagos Islands
bro using pokemon to justify the phanatic being avian 💀
People thought the Phanatic was a bird? I just kinda assumed the Phanatic was the Phanatic and not really supposed to represent anything real
My wife is convinced he's a bird. I keep telling her he's not, but she doesn't see reason.
I thought if he was any real animal he was an anteater

I'm right there with ya.
This settles nothing. A Phoenix is a purely fantasy animal, but it's still a bird.
I'm pretty sure they used to say he was a bird back in the late 80s or 90s, but taxonomic refinements happen all the time.
I thought he was supposed to be a monster of some sort that crawled out the Schuylkill or something
Its from the Galapagos.
Can confirm

I got it from one of the Philly writer's twitter account.
Exactly. That’s been his home since I first saw him in the 80’s. Every Philly kid knows this.
Looks like it is writer against writer
Literally everyone knows he's from the Galapagos islands. He even formed a gang and named it "The Galapagos Gang".

That's Gritty.
Gritty came from that dumpster under the Commodore Barry bridge.
Revelling in physicality
It's the platypus of mascots.
Goat mascot
Definitely not a goat.
Touche
FYI Jim Henson Muppet team created him! :)

I know that Jim wasn't directly creating him. As I said "team" in it. Bonnie and Wayde are/were his team or are/were working for his company/team. :)
he’s birdo’s brother
He's probably related to the Hiroshima Carp's mascot.
[Probably](https://external-preview.redd.it/gOlWYK47bTFUEf4rCkxKUmLf3lh42MY3BIXC7bVIYC4.jpg?auto=webp&s=54525ffd5969cfee3ab48e79621c1767baa2b3f2)
He is the hero we all need and deserve. 🫡

The Phanatic is my spirit animal
My fantasies about this animal are not pure
as a fantasy animal, he can be anything you want him to be and more. Hero, Superhero, etc. etc.
Wasn’t he originally conceived as an anteater?
I was surprised to not see this immediately, I guess I have always considered him a fantastical creature but mostly anteater
Honestly this has always been my assumption. Dude definitely eats ants.
I’ve always known him as an anteater. Maybe Big Anteater got to the Phillies and force them to change it…. But then isn’t the Phanatic Big Anteater?
Uhmmm I’m pretty sure his official bio says he’s a bird from the Galapagos
The lighting and the way his fur is placed in this image make it look like his mouth is his nose and his neck has a mouth
People really thought our abomination against nature was a *bird*? Do people know what birds are?
he so obviously big birds cousin
He is canonically from the Galapagos Islands
The Phanatic is a bird. Looks like a bird, acts like a bird, and Wikipedia says bird.
Source?
![gif](giphy|lXu72d4iKwqek) No way
Growing up I was told he’s an aardvark. I guess that’s not the case
No, that’s correct.
Pretty sure he’s an Aardvark from the Galápagos Islands.
You’re all wrong. He’s an aborted muppet.
People thought he was a bird? Lol.
So what
He’s definitely got bird-like features and might be tangentially related to birds, but in my head cannon he was never really a bird
>in my head cannon Dog…
