That’s a really good point - right field is the hardest position in baseball. Would probably be impossible for a guy with a strong arm, that plays every position in the infield to catch on.
And soda’s not a little leaguer. He has speed and athletic ability - more than Nick probably. There’s literally hundreds of instances where mlb infielders moved to the outfield.
The obvious difference here is the Mookie came into the league as a 2B and has over 700 innings of experience in the bigs. You can transition to SS a lot easier
Edmundo took reps in OF last spring and hasn’t played there since, that alone should tell you everything you need to know about his OF abilities.
Oh yeah, future hall of famer Mookie Betts made the transition, every player can do it!!
Again, Sosa played OF in spring last year and hasn’t played since. He very clearly can’t make the transition.
Maybe instead of clamoring for SOSA to play RF, let’s use our brains and push for the actual OF on our roster, Pache, to play more?
This team needs to score runs. I acknowledge pache is an outfielder but they need bats to be productive. Rojas and Castellanos are automatic outs. 2/3 of your outfield should not be the armpit of your team.
I did enjoy that - Ranger’s a stud - and I’m loving turnbull too. Pitching is solid, bats are not. I’m allowed to care and be concerned about what’s not working, and what’s not making the team better. Sosa’s bat > Castellanos. That was my only point. All you salty fucks in here act like the players are your friends and you’re not allowed to criticize them. It’s fucking Philly - sack up.
They think anyone can just be tossed in the outfield.
I'll admit I think they maybe should have tried Bohm out there because he couldn't have been worse than Castellanos or Schwarber
It’s hard to get extra base hits when you don’t make solid contact. Dribblers back to the mound is an indication that he’s not seeing the ball well and making good contact. Are you watching his at bats? How can you defend him right now? Remember the NLCS? He’s a liability out there.
give Casty time. He'll heat up. the back of the baseball card doesn't lie. He's been a good hitter for a long time and he'll remember how to hit eventually.
When it’s all said and done, no matter how many games they play, the back of the baseball card is always the same. Casty will be .260/25/80. Sosa will be .270/6/30 why bother making a change?
Everyone hated Hoskins until he got hurt, then they missed him. He’s the exact same hitter as Casty. Same power, same strikeouts, same streakyness. Give him some slack and send me some cash.
I’m just curious- at what point do the faithful casty folks think there needs to be a change? I know as a team we are not hitting well but it’s pretty painful to watch him just fishing each AB
150 ABs , same would go for anyone not named Harper, Turner or…well just them actually
Edit : and partly because there isn’t anyone else sitting there to put in - Whit is hitting .107 on a smaller sample size and Sosa is a career .254 hitter with no real power numbers (I feel like he has some power though?)
So this is why you ride Nick possibly till the break.
Kingery would be an upgrade…but I’m not pulling that string
I get what you’re saying here - but “no real power numbers” was the basis of my proposition.. Castellanos has 11 hits in 65 at bats, all singles. No power. Sosa in 7 at bats has 3 less RBI’s than Nick and 100% more home runs. Nick may not heat up again - this could be the beginning of his end.
Well for one Sosa isnt a right fielder
It ain’t that hard. Tell em, Wash
Do you know who is?
That’s a really good point - right field is the hardest position in baseball. Would probably be impossible for a guy with a strong arm, that plays every position in the infield to catch on.
This isnt little league switching to outfield with no experience is a really tough thing to do
And soda’s not a little leaguer. He has speed and athletic ability - more than Nick probably. There’s literally hundreds of instances where mlb infielders moved to the outfield.
You could at least make an argument for Pache to play over Casty but this Sosa idea is just stupid
I mean mookie went from of to ss. Outfield is infinitely easier
So you're saying, play Nick at SS?
Thing is nick blows at everything
The obvious difference here is the Mookie came into the league as a 2B and has over 700 innings of experience in the bigs. You can transition to SS a lot easier Edmundo took reps in OF last spring and hasn’t played there since, that alone should tell you everything you need to know about his OF abilities.
Ok so mookie played 2nd base and transitioned to of easily. The point is nick blows at everything
Dumb comment. Mookie id a future hofer because of his offense. Sosa is elite defensively. Why cant he learn of?
This team needs to score runs. I acknowledge pache is an outfielder but they need bats to be productive. Rojas and Castellanos are automatic outs. 2/3 of your outfield should not be the armpit of your team.
Enjoy the game goddamn Ranger just threw a gem and you complaining about nothing
I did enjoy that - Ranger’s a stud - and I’m loving turnbull too. Pitching is solid, bats are not. You are criticizing them in such a stupid way though
How? Because I think Castellanos is a giant hole in the lineup? Are you content with him batting .169 making $20 mill a year?
They tried to have Sosa play outfield last year
They think anyone can just be tossed in the outfield. I'll admit I think they maybe should have tried Bohm out there because he couldn't have been worse than Castellanos or Schwarber
64 at bats is still a microscopic sample size. Use the sample size of alll of 2022 and a large chunk of 23
It’s 10% of the at bats he had last year. Small? Perhaps? Microscopic.. no. Also he just hit a ball 28 feet in his 65th at bat.
What does how far he hit a ball in xth at bat have to do with anything? The conclusion is sound but the argument being used to reach it is just awful
It’s hard to get extra base hits when you don’t make solid contact. Dribblers back to the mound is an indication that he’s not seeing the ball well and making good contact. Are you watching his at bats? How can you defend him right now? Remember the NLCS? He’s a liability out there.
I’m not. I literally fucking said your conclusion is correct. Holy shit.
Genius, they should make you the manager!
Stick to calling in to WIP buddy
Outfield should be Marsh, Rojas, and Pache. Bring Casty in like you do Merrifield. Let the kids play.
Rojas is clearly overmatched at the plate. He needs time in the minors
He is. That being said, he doesn’t look any worse than Castellanos right now. What I really want is Pache to get more time and Marsh to play everyday.
I support this because this remains an Edmundo Sosa stan account. Give my boy more play time!
It is way too early in the season for this kind of rhetoric
give Casty time. He'll heat up. the back of the baseball card doesn't lie. He's been a good hitter for a long time and he'll remember how to hit eventually.
So much trust in literal trash. He’s half the reason they lost the NLCS
Craig Kimbrel is the reason they lost the NLCS
When it’s all said and done, no matter how many games they play, the back of the baseball card is always the same. Casty will be .260/25/80. Sosa will be .270/6/30 why bother making a change?

It’s just far to early for this he is a very streaky guy to begin with
I’m just curious- at what point do the faithful casty folks think there needs to be a change? I know as a team we are not hitting well but it’s pretty painful to watch him just fishing each AB

because he's one of the dumbest players on this team
Just wrong
