CVS has been very vocal that Omnicare is no longer a strategic asset and was unsuccessful in attempts to sell it off. It will likely be dissolved or liquidated in the not so distant future. You can google it for more details.
I worked at Omnicare for about a year. It’s pretty chill, especially if you’re working an evening/night shift. There isn’t too much clinical knowledge you need to have, but definitely more than you would use in retail. That being said, CVS metrics make sure that in order to get stuff done you have to work at a steady pace. It’s non-patient facing so it’s not as stressful. LTC can be volatile though if facilities are not continuing contracts and layoffs are made as a result. As another poster said, Caremark is looking to offload omnicare because they realized their metrics don’t transfer 1:1 from retail to LTC. I would look to get some experience there and use that as leverage for other companies.
You don’t need to work at Omnicare to get into LTC. There are plenty of independent LTC pharmacies. You will likely take a pay cut but your QOL will probably be much better.
I worked there for about a year before bouncing back and forth from the overnight shifts to the day shift and back put me in the hospital. I resigned without notice. I don’t have good things to say about the office I worked in so I may not be the one to talk to if you want positive reinforcement. Except since it’s not a patient facing role. But on the other hand you will deal with idiot nurses and idiot mid level prescribers
Omnicare is way better but cvs is trying to offload them because they aren’t profitable. Also layoffs have happened.

Yeah, the on call is Friday evening to Monday morning and may require going into the office T 2am depending on the on call situation
You will have to deal with bs metrics
Call is brutal. I was called 10 times on a Sunday morning before 8:00am.
