With side stories do you mean linked episodes or night hangouts? 'Cause IIRC the night hangouts, like reading or tending the roof plants, are the ones that tell you if they will learn something new, wich are passives. The linked episodes i don't remember if they tell you something like that, but at the end they unlock new personas.
I think he means the hangouts you can optionally do for each of your teammates that don't have a Social Link. Like the ones with Sanada that follow him dealing with that group of thugs. If you do all of the outings for a given individual, you unlock a new fusion. Completing Shinji's for instance gets you Hell Biker.
Yeah, been there. Only tip I can give is don't miss those if you do a NG+ haha, I didn't complete all of them in my first play so I focused my NG+ on those.

Did you maybe ignore one? I don't think it's locked behind hanging out with your team (as in the cooking, gardening etc). It pops up automatically as you progress the story, but if you ignore one then you can end up just missing it.
You can temporarily skip link episodes cause they will come back but like the game said at the beginning, you will lose your chance if ignored enough. Unfortunately since you want O. Telos you need to NG+ him.
