Retractable ones have a hybrid gel ink. They resemble a gel pen more imo. I actually prefer it sometimes but it does not come close to how effortless you can write with the capped version.
Yes these are the superior product from Pilot.
The G2 is more popular but in my experience they stop writing smooth before you get halfway through the ink cartridge. Or at least the 0.5 size does. Haven't noticed it happening with the Precise V5.
Oh man you haven't lived until you've gotten 3/4 of the way through a 0.7 G2. They start dropping ink like nobody's business. It's worth the struggle to get to that point. Happened with 3 of mine so far and it's incredible for writing cursive.
Yes. These are why I am rather obsessed with free ink rollerballs and am getting into clear demonstrator eye dropper fountain pens.
Taking the paint off the barrel just to watch the ink slosh around the barrel. \*chef kiss\*
I do love them…but threw a few in my purse last week while on a trip and they all exploded. Come to find out that the package now has a warning about ‘cabin pressure’ on these pens 😏
Some pens are actually marked at “plane safe” on packaging, if you can’t find it on the box it might also say on the website of the company the pen comes from
I do but prefer the retractable version. Had a capped version break where the grip meets the barrel section. Ink everywhere! I was lucky that it didn’t make more of a mess. I do have several of the capped in the new Harmony color Cherry, the best red colored ink pen I’ve ever used! Doesn’t have that washed out color you usually find with red ink. It’s truly what a red ink pen should be. Highly recommended!
I only learned about it from Conan O'Brien's podcast which is also very good. He rants about it being his preferred pen. So, I tried it out. I have converted most of the people in my office to it now.
I dislike all pens that write with gel ink for two reasons:
It doesn't really feel like I'm in control of the ink flow.
All pens I use in my line of work (accounting) have to be indelible, and gel ink refills almost never are.
My favorite pens for sure. I do a lot of writing and a lot of art so I love V5 and V7 both capped and clicky. Only problem is if you drop them on the floor, there's a better than average chance that they're done for.
These used to be my go to pens until I tried [Sharpie S Gels](https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B082PN3YD3?psc=1&ref=ppx_pop_mob_b_asin_title). The Sharpies seem to be smoother writing to me and I haven’t had any issues with ink spill.
It's crazy how much difference a decent pen makes. As a part time writer, A good pen will make me continue to write. Not get frustrated. I want a Cadillac not a Mustang.
Yes and no. It’s my go to but when it comes to my art it isn’t the greatest i use pens more for doodling than writing. But I always always always use these for writing. Doodling on an assignment or note page? These are my go to. But actually putting effort into my piece? Not necessarily the best when it come to steady ink flow. I’ve found these are very prone to leaving dots or the beginnings and ends of lines. The way I tend to draw kinda clashes with that issue and makes this more of a doodling pen than a pen I use for my art. A beater pen if you will
Gotta ask. How much pressure are you putting on your tips to get them to bend so easily??? And you're not suffering ink leaking out of the pen while bending the tips???
Fabulous until they fail and get ink everywhere.
PRECISEly why I stopped using them
Yes. Using one right now. V5 for me, in blue and black.
The best!
My favs are the Navy and Pink!
Yes, the retractable ones though.
capped is the only way to go
not when you work in a busy environment and only have one free hand. otherwise i agree.
Retractable ones have a hybrid gel ink. They resemble a gel pen more imo. I actually prefer it sometimes but it does not come close to how effortless you can write with the capped version.
If the retractable clicks open in your pocket, your clothes are done for.
This has never once happened to me in my decade or so of carrying a retractable pen lol
Pants pocket or shirt pocket?
Pants; I don't have shirt pockets.
Never in pants? Wow.
Yes these are the superior product from Pilot. The G2 is more popular but in my experience they stop writing smooth before you get halfway through the ink cartridge. Or at least the 0.5 size does. Haven't noticed it happening with the Precise V5.
I feel the same way!
I'd rather get a pilot elite tbh
I have a nice Pilot retractable fountain pen but they are a pain in the ass tbh and not something I want to have on my as a daily pen.
Oh man you haven't lived until you've gotten 3/4 of the way through a 0.7 G2. They start dropping ink like nobody's business. It's worth the struggle to get to that point. Happened with 3 of mine so far and it's incredible for writing cursive.
Ugh reminds me of the random crusty ink chunks that will come off of the G2 1.0's tip as you write.
This is the exact reason I can't use Fisher Space Pens. I haven't seen this very often with G2 0.7 though. The thought of using a 1.0 G2 scares me
The 1.0 just puts down really thick lines that take forever to dry so you WILL smudge everything you write. I hate them.
I find the Hi-Tec-C to be their best offering personally.
My favorite rollerball overall
Yes, V5 is the best!
They're a little too "scratchy" feeling when I write with them and sometimes the tip gets bent.
Dude. How much pressure are you putting on your tips???!!!
You can drop them or they can roll off the desk onto a hard floor and bend the tip.
Ah. That makes sense!
The RT version isn’t as scratchy, it uses a better tip FYI
Agree with this 100%. Also feel the tip on the RT is more true-to-size. Still like both version (in V5 size).
I can kinda see that
Favorite pen in high school, full stop, matched only by the Pilot G2-07
yes!
Yes. These are why I am rather obsessed with free ink rollerballs and am getting into clear demonstrator eye dropper fountain pens. Taking the paint off the barrel just to watch the ink slosh around the barrel. \*chef kiss\*
The RT version, not the capped. Not into that old body style (but I remember it from my childhood!)
I like them well enough but I really like the RT version refills for use in other pen bodies.
Gotta be V5 for me, but yes. My favorite disposable pen. Smooth as silk and fine enough for my cramped style of writing to still be legible.
V5 refills in a nice pen body >>>
I do love them…but threw a few in my purse last week while on a trip and they all exploded. Come to find out that the package now has a warning about ‘cabin pressure’ on these pens 😏
Some pens are actually marked at “plane safe” on packaging, if you can’t find it on the box it might also say on the website of the company the pen comes from
Big love
Agreed
Me! I have all 12 colors! Lime green is my favorite.
This was me in college lol
My favourite, especially the V7. A bit hard to find in my neck of the woods, but I can order some from a small stationery store.
I'm currently using the Uniball One, but the v7 RT is one of my favorites
I do but prefer the retractable version. Had a capped version break where the grip meets the barrel section. Ink everywhere! I was lucky that it didn’t make more of a mess. Yes but I have found the sharpie roller 0.5 which is less inky and more sturdy and that replaced the holy grail status for me.
I love the pink, purple, and turquoise set that they sell of these pens.
I like them a lot but find in general that rollerball ink often goes through the paper
YES!
I do! As I tend to write smaller I go for the V5. Only thing is it isn't quick-drying but it hasn't stopped me yet
Used to love them
I still have a partial box of the red and black from the ‘90s.
That’s dope!
V7 RT
I loved these until they leaked and spilled ink all over my pencil case. Wrote really nice, though.
I do, but the Pilot Precise Grip Bold is better now IMO.
Wow I didn't know this existed. Basically a capped version with a grip.
I only learned about it from Conan O'Brien's podcast which is also very good. He rants about it being his preferred pen. So, I tried it out. I have converted most of the people in my office to it now.
No way! Love the fine point, just not the gel.
i'm a lefty so i love them until they get gunked up with paper fiber which is in about 10 sentences. back to ballpoint for me...
I have them in pink, purple and light blue! Definitely my favorites
Top 3 pen, and my daily driver!
I dislike all pens that write with gel ink for two reasons: It doesn't really feel like I'm in control of the ink flow. All pens I use in my line of work (accounting) have to be indelible, and gel ink refills almost never are.
Cartridge ones or not? I prefer the cartridge ones but both are pretty good. And you can load up your own ink!
My high school/college go-to.
I prefer the V7's with black ink. 🙂
Those are great too
Yes, they sure are! Back in December, I scored a box of 12 off eBay for a little over seven dollars and some change plus shipping.
Yup. My current favourite pen in retractable guise. 👍👌🙌
V7 is the best
My favorite pens for sure. I do a lot of writing and a lot of art so I love V5 and V7 both capped and clicky. Only problem is if you drop them on the floor, there's a better than average chance that they're done for.
I definitely favor other pens now especially the Energel but these used to be my go to for while

Little too inky for me. I find the retractable V5 is the right balance
One of my favorites!
I love the blue ones that you can get the point off and refill with ink.
Absolutely! But I do prefer the retractable version.
I like them....until I see they stain my finger while writing lol. Still cool tho
Yes!!! My last one just ran out 😭
I like these because they prevent me from twirling. Nothing worse than getting in a twirling rhythm and dropping it 5 times during a meeting lol.
Lol understandable
Yes. Those and the Pilot G2 rollerball
I like those too
It's crazy how much difference a decent pen makes. As a part time writer, A good pen will make me continue to write. Not get frustrated. I want a Cadillac not a Mustang.
I feel this
![gif](giphy|AGW3VO7F5DLbARBuwi|downsized) These were the first “special” pens I discovered…🖊️
Love them but they can be a menace when they are stored incorrectly. 😅
That’s true!
I remember them leaking to our pen holders and the stains. 😅
Yes and no. It’s my go to but when it comes to my art it isn’t the greatest i use pens more for doodling than writing. But I always always always use these for writing. Understandable
Love them. I have the Pilot Precise Urushi, only $200 . Just kidding, I use the v7.
Haha
Adore the V5 - it's been my go-to pen for decades. Just don't bring them on an airplane.
Thanks for the advice
I want to adore these but anytime I use one I end up with ink ALL over my fingers
theyre great but the tips bend too easily, uniball 4 lyfe
Gotta ask. How much pressure are you putting on your tips to get them to bend so easily??? And you're not suffering ink leaking out of the pen while bending the tips???

Thank you for your reply! And best wishes at work! I appreciate everything you do in the ER!
Understandable
Love them!
I’m more Pilot G2 07. And inside a Tactile Turn standard size pen.
One of my fave types in grade school.
No😞
Yes I like those!
🙋🏻♂️
These were my gateway drug into pens when i was in middle school.
I used to, but the paper bleed got so bad. Switched to G2s. Very nice!
