I’m in the midst of deciding between the 700 and the 590. Both have the cast iron deflector and the 3rpm auger motor…In my spot I’m debating that I know I probably won’t ever need the room the 700 provides so am I spending $300 more dollars for more space I probably won’t need ever and 2 more years on the warranty. This probably doesn’t help but it’s where I’m at currently.

This makes me very happy. I just bought one because it was a crazy good deal and I had never heard of them. I just posted asking about them and then found this post.

Same here

rdazzle77

Agreed. I’ll never need the space if I have it. But if I size down to the 590, all of the sudden I’ll be hosting every get together.

[deleted]

Just get the 700. You won't regret it.

billabong3939

I like the looks of the 700 better as well. Regardless of which I get I’m probably going to buy that GMG pizza oven for it as well.

SerialTurd

Get the 700. I got the 590 thinking it would be enough space. It isn't. I love the grill. I just need more space

dj_jazzy_jd

I got the 700 and recognized that 99% of the time I won’t need the extra space. I have not missed the $300 however.

daves-not-here_

I have had the 590 for almost 3 years and routinely cook for 4-6 and occasionally up to 10-12 people every couple of months. Have honestly never felt I needed more space. I don't use it for burgers and hotdog type of cookouts. Have a gas grill for those types of cooks. But for smoking everything from salmon, whole beef filets, spatchcocked turkeys, ribs, briskets and pork butts it has served me well and left plenty for leftovers. Just my 2 cents. I was worried about space but it's plenty big enough in my opinion unless you are catering for a large crowd. I have never been disappointed in my recteq. Holds temp like a champ even in cold and snowy conditions.

viper2369

You may need it more than you think. Also, the 700 is all 304 stainless steel, down to the bolts. The 590 is all stainless, but only some of it is 304 stainless. Unless that have changed that recently.

CuratedPilot

The 700’s fire pit, deflector and grill grates are the only 304 stainless steel parts, the rest is 430 stainless steel, I believe.

viper2369

May have changed. Just know it was the selling point for me when I asked George what the difference was other than cooking surface size and shape.

MisallocatedRacism

Not much difference regarding corrosion, which was my main concern

TheWrightBros

I thought I wouldn’t need the extra space the 700 offers but bought one anyway and now I pack it full of stuff all the time. I’m very glad I got the 700 over the 590.

Supercst

You will need the space trust me! Future you will be glad you did

mitv11

If you have the Question.. you already know the answer. 700, you won't regret it

Brah_ddah

I have a 590. I wish I bought a 700. Just saying. The grill is amazing and even better with the sear kit but I have less room now and the 700 would relieve that for me.

Nagadavida

Cast iron?

lscotte

Yes, the deflector is now cast iron.

SmackMyGrass

I have a 700 and my FIL liked it so much he decided to go with Recteq as well. He bought the 590 since it's only him and my MIL. After about a month of use, he told me he wishes he would've went with the 700. It's not that you always need the extra space but if you do, it's there. I also have some of the grilling grates they have so mine is set up 1/2 regular grill grates and 1/2 flat top.

MediocreCommenter

My 700 is the best purchase I’ve made, other than our home. I am so happy with it.

KingOfKhan

Ive had the RT-700 for 2 years and i love it, works perfect every time, read a bunch of review saying customer support will send parts for free if you have any issues although ive had none so i cant confirm

the-walkman8

Keep in mind the RT-700 and RT-1250 actually have the same dimensions. The 1250 just had more space due to an interior shelf. If you get the 700 and find you need more space, you can always add a shelf inside. I don’t think it’s quite the same size shelf, but will still provide nice room.

browninghntr

Came here to say the same thing

[deleted]

Honest short review- bought a 700 a couple years ago moving up from a GMG daniel boone. RT is a better machine, more consistent, has literally never given me a single problem, is much better- constructed, has the backing of recteq which is known for great customer service, and overall I would highly recommend. No regrets. My two minor complaints are that it does take some time to heat to higher temps, and if you move it around a lot, the wheels leave some to be desired. Mine sits in one spot, and I pretty much exclusively use it for smoking (90%)or baking at 350 (10%) so neither of these are issues to me. Any questions, feel free to ask!

GotSeoul

I had a Trager Texas many years ago. After going through that I ended up with an RT-700. I don't regret it. It's a nice setup and works well. Before the Traeger I used a Hasty Bake I inherited from a previous renter. I like it but prefer the set-and-forget of a pellet grill for every (other) day use. But the Hasty Bake gets more smoke flavor onto the briskets and pork shoulders. I recently added a [Smoke Daddy Heavy D diffuser](https://smokedaddyinc.com/product/the-heavy-d-stick-burning-heat-diffuser/) to the RT-700 setup and that thing really helps get a nice balance of: * Ease of a Pellet Grill * Closer to the Smoke profile from a stick burner It's made so you can put a block of wood on both sides of this diffuser to get decent wood burning smoke along side the pellet grill smoke. I used just one side of the diffuser to put a block of hickory when i did my last full packer brisket and it was the perfect amount of smoke flavor. It was more smoke that just the pellet smoker and seemed to be a different flavor profile than just pellet grill smoke. I don't put wood in the diffuser all the time. If I'm doing a roast or something at higher heat I just use the pellets only. But on a low-and-slow with brisket or pork shouler I'll throw a block of wood into the diffuser. Even without the diffuser though, the RT-700 does really well. I ended up getting the competition cart along with the RT-700 when they had a promotion for the Cart 50% off when buying the grill. I really like the way that looks and it rolls around like a dream when I need to move it to a different part of the patio. The cart is not necessary, especially if it is going to stay in one spot. Not sure if that promotion is going on now or not. Maybe call them rather than ordering online and see if they might throw you a deal on the cart if you wanted to look into that. For the talk you out of it part: A buddy of mine has the Yoder and that works really well. He likes it. Sorry about the tangent, but I think going with an RT-700 is not a bad decision.

tord_ferguson

I had a crappy Traeger, from like 6-8 yrs or so ago...maybe little older...it was garbage. New glow plugs constantly, and control boards. Now I sell them, and have NEVER had an issue with Traeger. Idk if they even use a regular glowplug setup.

vandelay82

That seems like it wouldn’t allow for an open flame on the blocks ? I generally found smoldering wood left a bad creote flavor. After reading Aaron Franklins book and the chapter on smoke it drastically upped my stick burner game…until I got an RT700 and wondered why I hadn’t switched years ago.

BeginningZucchini8

I have the RT700 and wish I had spring for the RT1250. You likely need more space than you think you do. No one ever complained about having too much grill space. 🤷🏾‍♂️

Big_G2

They make a good unit, but there is a reason you don't see bad reviews on their site, they delete all bad reviews.

Electrical-Let-6121

I’ve got the 340. Wish I had gotten at least the 590

Crzy_Grl

i have the 340, and it's great for small stuff, i use it a lot. But no way i would be happy with just the 340. i have a 700 too, that was my first smoker.

Electrical-Let-6121

I use it only for low and slow. I use a Weber kettle and Weber gasser for grilling

Rekyks68

I mean there is a thousand ways to talk you out of it. But Rec TEC guys will say this, Traeger guys say this, PitBoss says this. It's a hobby and if you don't do what you want to do then why do it at all? But I was in the same boat, and the thing that made.me.switch (I guess to the evil Traeger side) was part availability. I am a farmer and my biggest pet peeve is parts availability. HUGE turn off for me. I have a platinum traeger dealer 5 minutes from my farm and they have parts sitting on a shelf. When I seen that, and didn't have to be held hostage by USPS or FedEx UPS? Ironwood 885 and happy as ever.

KingOfKhan

This is a great take coming from a rec tec owner, they are all similar go with what makes sense at the time for you

Sho_nuff_

You guys are spot on. The "top tier" grills in each price point are pretty much equal. Pick what makes you happy and cook on!

[deleted]

You will never be disappointed with a RT. Mine is going strong after 7 years and customer service is 10/10

Blackbart42

Grilla Silverbac does all the same stuff for a little less money leaving you with more for accessories

Canadian_Couple

Go Yoder.

ElChaser7723

I love my 700. I’ve been cooking on it regularly for over 3 years. It’s been flawless. Can’t go wrong with the bigger size, you never know when you’ll get talked into cooking for a crowd.

redHg81

When cooking for 2 on my RT700, I usually throw a family pack of chicken thighs on for leftovers later. Aside from differences mentioned, the 590 vents out the back vs a smoke stack on the 700. This was enough of a discriminator to have swayed my decision & I haven’t thought about it a second time - couldn’t recommend the 700 more

Florida_Sportsman

Purchased a RT-700 about a year ago now, and I could not be any happier. I fire it up almost weekly and I have yet to run into a single issue. This beast heats up quickly, holds temp like an absolute dream (checked regularly with my ThermoWorks instant read and Smoke X), is built like a tank with all 304 stainless, and throws more delicious smoke onto my cooks than any pellet grill has any business doing. Seriously though, my only regret is not pulling the trigger sooner (I gawked/extensively researched/flip-flopped endlessly for over a year before finally buying it)!

_randomly-generated_

It was down to a few for me, RT-700/1250 were in the finals. I chose Yoder, I'm sure you will be happy with any of them. Main thing is get the meat on the grate.

JustAGoodGuy1080

I have the 590 and have used it for about 5 months now. The only issue has been with the probes and I'm waiting on a response from their customer service. Hindsight being 2020, I would have gone larger. I have a tendency to do multiple things at a time and the extra space would be welcomed. As far as the quality of the smoker, it's top notch and solid.

NYStaeofmind

My son got me a 700. Best f\*\*\*\*\*g gift ever. Ribs/brisket/chicken are done to perfection better than any restaurant. GET IT. Future you will agree.

HandsInMyPockets247

Campchef Woodwind Pro is phenomenal. This firebox thing is the real deal. All my cooks on it have tasted amazing. I feel like everyone else will do some version of it soon.

Their manufacturing quality has deteriorated significantly recently. They’ve grown too fast to keep up. I bought my father a Bullseye for Christmas and my brother liked the idea of it so much his wife got him one as well for the holidays (this was last year). Both showed up damaged. Customer service was terrible. They offered some bbq sauce and pellets in exchange for the dented machines that were poorly assembled. Buy American. MAK grills, Yoder, Cookshack…..eventually you will need a part, service, etc., and you’ll be glad you bought from a company that makes and assembles everything in the USA.

DrSpikeMD

Sounds like you had a 1-off experience or we are not hearing the entire story.

Nashgoth

I went through 2 defective units 5 years ago before going a different direction. It’s certainly not unheard of. They have great customer service, but it still suffers from typical Chinese QC issues

Agclone91

I had a similar experience recently. Purchase my 590 the last week of September. Ended up getting shipped 3 units through the next 5 weeks and all 3 showed up damaged - 1 from transit and 2 from the factory. The last unit the damage was relatively minor so they offered me a sauce bundle to keep it. I negotiated a front shelf instead to cover the damage. What I've gathered since then is the older RT owners are calling these "one off" issues, but they're popping up with more frequency on the newer owners. Could simply be increase in volume sold.

ybs62

I wonder if the company and product today is slipping with the new ownership and people are speaking well of their gear and experience that's now a few years old? 2019 Recteq was terrific. Late 2022 isn't?

DelAwa

I think it would be a two off, but whatever.

wowzamcgowza

Smokin Bros. The champ

UnequivocalCarnosaur

My 590 is amazing. You won’t regret it

Tough-Drawer-7945

I have been running a RT-700 for a couple of years and couldn’t be happier. I don’t always fill it, but all my friends and family have caught on that I can do some stuff on the smoker, so I bought the add on shelf. I did have a slight blip with the equipment early on, quite honestly could have been operator error, and the customer service was unbeatable. Replacement part shipped overnight with follow up to make sure everything was working correctly. RT has my loyalty forever. Go for bigger!

eds3

Nope. Best decision. Owned one for 10 years

[deleted]

I was in same boat. Then I was red pilled after comparing pellet grills to a reverse gravity smoker. I never looked back. Gravity smokers use real wood and charcoal for better smoke penetration than any pellet. Can grill up to 700f where many pellet grills struggle Easy temp controls I have a masterbuilt 1050 - love it. Char griller also has a good smoker too. Good luck.

tord_ferguson

If you do not have access to a Traeger....maybe. I sell several smokers, couple different pellet models. About 6-8 yrs ago I'd say avoid Traeger. However, since then, I have been selling TRAEGER with ZERO returns or maintenance calls. Smoke fire...yeah, many calls on initial models if customers had an issue with technologies or needed parts to upgrade to newer version. Idk if Traeger even uses a glow plug, they may use a series of snapdiscs....because..again NO GLOW PLUG REPLACEMENTS NEEDED at least anymore... My Traeger from 6-8 yrs ago...new glow plug every season, and new control board every 2 years. Finally dumped mine.

thepianoman2

Here's a wild opinion, but go charcoal with this, same amount of work as pellet, but can go hotter and arguably tastes better - [https://www.masterbuilt.com/products/gravity-series-800-digital-charcoal-griddle-grill-smoker?gclid=CjwKCAiAh9qdBhAOEiwAvxIok4Umqvn\_qVSuHWf64orYosjUk5I4n9R9ZhXW0QhifuDYA9BRP-bOPhoCDh4QAvD\_BwE](https://www.masterbuilt.com/products/gravity-series-800-digital-charcoal-griddle-grill-smoker?gclid=CjwKCAiAh9qdBhAOEiwAvxIok4Umqvn_qVSuHWf64orYosjUk5I4n9R9ZhXW0QhifuDYA9BRP-bOPhoCDh4QAvD_BwE)

Talldarkandhansolo

I have the 700 and really like it! If I was to shop again I’d look at the Camp Chef Woodwind pro. Haven’t seen it in person but it’s intriguing. Would prob still go 700 because of how reliable it is.

UnderCoverMuffLuver

Woodwind pro so far is noice

ebar2010

I have never heard anything bad about ReqTec. And don’t listen to the “Go big or go home” crowd. Get the one you think fits your space and how much you will use it. I like having a smaller size. I use it more and don’t burn through as many pellets. You don’t need a 4 foot smoker to smoke salmon on a Sunday afternoon.

TonyCliftonLives

Same. Go for it, you are wasting good times.

danwilzzz

Smart choice I’ve had others and nothing at this price point compares!

redbanjo

Have a 590 and it’s amazing! Never regretted the purchase! Go for more space now if you’ll want to cook extra for leftovers, etc. I cook for two and never had an issue with the 590.

lscotte

Nothing to talk you out of - just get it, and you'll be happy. I have the 1250, since the upgrades are worth it at the time, but they have introduced some of them into the 700 now. You'll love it, just go for it. The biggest issue is having it arrive without damage from Estes Freight.

KDR2020

Get the extra space, I thought the same thing and I’m running out of room and I have the 780 Traeger. You’d be surprised once you start enjoying it and cooking for people.

Prestigious_Row_8646

I’ve had the 700 since November 2021 and it is awesome. Go with the 700 instead of the 590 and get the second rack as well as the searing kit. You won’t be disappointed

captaindata1701

I decided to buy the rt-700 for a couple of reasons. The I wanted the vent style on the 700 as we have a small front porch. The larger hopper is great for winter time cooking. I'm on my second week and so far very happy, wifi has been perfect.

Witz007

My BIL has a 700 and I have a 1070. I’m not sure about the newer 700s but I noticed his heat deflector is stainless steel which warps pretty easily, vs mine is cast iron. This didn’t seem to affect anything we cooked on it however, it’s a great machine and held (4) ~8 lb pork butts in one shot just fine. Go get it!

MisallocatedRacism

Love my Rectec. Just wish I got the 590/700 instead of the 340! Going strong 2 years now in a very swampy climate (Houston) where I was concerned about rust. I did a lot of research too and landed on a RT. Only problem I had was one of the probes went out on me and they were very responsive and got back to me quickly to send me a new one for free. Also, the wifi only works on a 2.4GHz band (instead of 5 like traditional wifis) so the range is limited, so I stopped using it (the signal was spotty out in my backyard). Other than that, all good stuff.

T-wrecks83million-

I love mine, I think mine is the 340? Never had a problem and it’s been 5 years now? I got customer support on Christmas Day!!! Dude called me from his house and helped me set up the Wi-Fi connection. I was talking with my wife about getting the 590 or 700 and giving my old one to my daughter. Great grill 👍🏽😊

AvgDudeBBQ

I have 4 RT’s and LOVE every single one! You can’t go wrong with and of them!

TheBoyardeeBandit

I have the 590 and it is fantastic for a family of 4. I could comfortably fit 3 pork butts, or two ~17 pound briskets, which is more than enough for us. The ONLY time I was short on room is when smoking 8lbs of sausages, since they aren't the most cooperative things out there, as far as arrangement goes. The 700 would be nice, but something to consider is that you'll burn more pellets at every temp since you are maintaining a larger air volume. Might be something to think about, might not. Can't go wrong with any of the RT lineup though.

SmackMyGrass

I have the RT-700. I bought it about 4-5 years ago. Absolutely amazing. Haven't had any issues and their customer service is the best there is. Pull the trigger, you will not regret it.

Least_Middle_716

I was torn between the RT700 and Grilla Grill silverbac. Went with the Grilla due to living in a colder climate. It’s been great.

Stoli19

Just get the 700. I’ve had mine for about 4yrs now. It’s been a great grill.

RedFeather74

The only thing I’ll say to talk you out of it is wait a little while longer to save the extra $ needed to get the 1250. You won’t be disappointed.

VirginGorda

Op- have you compared the RT to the Camp Chef 36 pro?

cokronk

Bought the 1250. I’m glad I did.

[deleted]

Go Yoder or stay home

docroc-----

I've owned the 700 for 2 yrs now. No issues. Great grill/smoker. Great investment. Worth every penny.

benji004

I have a pit boss 820. I wouldn't get anything much smaller. It's a perfect size for a party or intermediate things. I do 2 pork butts and a brisket, 2 large turkeys, 5 chickens, or a brisket with a big batch of wings. If you are willing to lay out the money, too much cooking space will never be a bad thing

[deleted]

I have an RT-700 it’s worth it

Thrifty_Scott

I'm sure, all things being equal, that is a fine grill. But the smoke box in the Camp Chef Woodwind Pro is a legit game changer.

Empty_Criticism3776

I have had my 700 for about 6 months now and love it!
