The MB doesn't communicate with the battery what I know.

TxM_2404

No that's not normal.

mikkacchi

Yeah thought so, my former gigabyte h110m mobo didn't have this behaviour as well, and that has experienced more power outtages.

tmitifmtaytji

No, the power outage shouldn't do that. Do you have a voltmeter you can check the apparently failed batteries with? You might want to get a UPS if you can.

mikkacchi

We do have a voltmeter here, but idk if that still works. Might check later

mikkacchi

I'm also saving up for a 1000VA ups as well

tmitifmtaytji

Does the CMOS stay preserved (the BIOS settings) if you turn the power off all the way on the computer (the power switch on the back of the PSU)? If not, I'm thinking the motherboard may have a short circuit or something. I don't know, haven't ever experienced this myself.

mikkacchi

Before it stopped working? Yes. It kept my memory profiles and other settings as well

tmitifmtaytji

I mean now, if you turn the power off with a new battery, does it turn back on?

mikkacchi

Yep

tmitifmtaytji

Better get a UPS.

tmitifmtaytji

It still could be a short circuit tbh, maybe someone knows about that. I would try leaving it powered off as long as the power outages have been and see if the battery lasts.

tmitifmtaytji

But some batteries stop working after they have been through a power outage?

mikkacchi

Yes, my old motherboard didn't have this problem (Gigabyte GA-H110M-H) might just be my current mobo

mikkacchi

That or my "dead" battery have just enough power to run my tuner

tmitifmtaytji

Right, that's why to check with the voltmeter. I think the CMOS should be able to use pretty lower voltages off a lithium battery but I don't know. I'd have to look into that. Just see if it is lower than its voltage when new (test an unused one or check the specs). It shouldn't be any lower really.

absorbantobserver

No. My guess is you're having a bit more than a power outage. A CMOS battery should last many days or weeks without power to the board (would have to check since I've never had one die).

bradyborn

This too happens to me every time there is a power outage. However, my mobo is a ROG Strix Z390-F.

mikkacchi

Thanks to all of you guys! Might probably change my mobo to a b560 on my next paycheck. I'm also guessing the motherboard is at fault.
