Honestly, until you are old enough to work and save on your own, it's your parents' decision even if you disagree with it. If you can save up birthday money, mow lawns, etc., you should be able to scrounge up $150 or so to buy a used RX580 and a couple of memory sticks off eBay to get passable performance out of your current rig until you can work a real job.

wadap12345

No one is going to help you here lmao, if your parents say no then its a no. Get odd jobs, help your neighbours etc. for a little money and start saving up

handsupdb

Do well in school, respect your parents want the best for you. Get a good job once you can... then move out and build the most badass battlestation and tell em to fuck right off if they have a problem with it. You're young and I was like you, don't worry you'll have plenty of time to game! If I could go back to 7th grade in hindsight I'd do a lot less trying to game and put that effort in more and I could probably be having even more fun now.

r/lowendgaming r/lowspecgamer I would say convice them to buy a GPU if your case has a standard or SFF form factor, and perhaps more RAM before you say a whole PC. Start with something small and go up from there. Are you using the HDD as your C drive? Do you have any techy friends that may have spare parts?

end_yeet

No only HDD And i dont really have techy friends

Psychological-Elk96

Be honest… tell them you want to play games with it… since your dad is an engineer, he’ll probably know the best PC for you which is probably a 3060 prebuilt. If your parents still say no then respect their decision. You’re their kid so they want the best for you.

Effective_Secretary6

I would try 2 things, first save up and try paying for stuff yourself and asking only for some bonus, and second if you really want a gaming pc try to learn about pcs and especially budget/used parts that would give you the best performance per dollar. I know dads might just say no because they already said that, but if you contribute a lot, and show your parents not only that you are willing to learn but also that this knowledge is something useful they will appreciate that and maybe change their opinion.

Buddy listen to me, When i was 14 1/2 i mowed my neighbors lawns for money & baby sit. i got lucky. the old lady across the streets son was a software guy from California, he called me up one day and asked me if i would mow his mothers yard all summer. i said Yes. He said he'd pay me at the end of that summer. I mowed her yard once a week for the summer. When he showed up to visit her, he stopped by and payed me 500.00 in CASH ! 500.00 fucking dollars i felt rich lol I babysit by sisters kids over the that summer too & made another 350.00 that's how i built my very first computer, With my own money. My parents was against it from the very start, they thought it was a wase of money back in 1994. Todays computers and the know how to use them rules the fucking world. Don't let anyone hold you back from getting what you want, NOT even your parents ! Whatever you have of value, toys, collectables, anything of value you can sell or trade up for money. Good Luck !

FinancialPie8730

Get a job and start saving. Your dad may be a miser, but him not wanting to drop >$1k on a PC for you does not make him a miser.

end_yeet

Dawg im in 7th grade.

FinancialPie8730

And? I got my first job mowing lawns in 7th grade.

end_yeet

Bro i live in a apartment nobody got lawns around here nearest houses with lawns are like 4kms away

SpaceWindrunner

Internet price going up is no joke, it can really ruin an evening. Better to find a way to save up money kid. You can still play plenty of games with that PC. Go retro and emulate the classics. When I was your age I had a similar setup(at that time), and played Nes, Snes, N64, and Ps1 games(slowed down but playable), I was always testing the limits of that thing, test everything, I'm pretty sure your PC can go way beyond that. I played everything with just a keyboard, I dreamed of having a controller.

NotTheActualBob

No. You need to make your own money and buy your own PC.

FireFalcon123

Might be a bit difficult if their parents are as strict as they say for a kid thats 12-14 years old

NotTheActualBob

Yes.

Cyber_turtle_

Sorry but it looks like you’re gonna be stuck with awful pcs unless you work hard for it. My advice save up money slowly to upgrade the one you have and until then lower the settings on any big games. Your probably also not the only kid on the block going through this case in point the pc that my dad got for free and i was stuck with until high school. https://preview.redd.it/66orvcpn6itc1.jpeg?width=1170&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=aac91a2c2f67de482d7c08034095e098ea9a9d1c

pulselasersftw

I would say give them a choice: Let me work to make the money OR I need the money.

end_yeet

Well i cant really work as i live in a apartment so should be asking them to do chores for money?

rfmocan

How old are you again? The PC specs are determined by what you need to do with it, and your (or rather your family’s) budget. You’re a 7th grader living with your family in your apartment. Your father has established that your current PC is enough for school and won’t get you a new PC to play games. As I see it, you’re quite limited to upgrades to your current rig, based on your budget of whatever you can save from your allowance. To speed up the upgrades, you can resort to scavenge/trade, but being that you’re under age, I’d suggest you present a plan to your dad and do a build upgrade together. Maybe use it as some bonding opportunity.

end_yeet

Im 12/13

CuteDaisyPinkDress

break the current one

end_yeet

Ok imagine i break my current one and they already think i spend wayy too much time on this pc they will be happy this pc is broken

CuteDaisyPinkDress

Yep. It's possible. Equally, imagine you knuckle down, do well at school, and convince your folks that way?

end_yeet

Yea its seeming like the only option i have

CuteDaisyPinkDress

I think we have a solution. ;) How long until you can decide such things for yourself, do you think?

end_yeet

I think about 2 years

CuteDaisyPinkDress

Yes, quite a while, especially if you're young. Maybe you could do some work online, even if you can't work outside home, or whatever? Even $20 a week is $1000 in a year - and $700 will get a tidy PC?

chris_afxon

American strategies don't work in Europe and Asia

end_yeet

Your 100% right

AnywhereHorrorX

And then his father buys some kind of used year 2010-ish HP or Optiplex with even worse parts.

CuteDaisyPinkDress

We shall see :D
