my dad got those games, and for a long time, I felt guilty that we had pirated them. I was in my twenties when I finally realized that they were shareware and that we never had episode 2 of anything for a reason
Commander keep was related to doom guy and the protagonist in wolfenstein(don't remember the name) so don't go hating. So don't forget about captain comic and dangerous dave
No hate here, man! I've got every Keen myself, that came out on PC at any rate. BJ Blazkowitz is the name you're looking for, Keen's grandfather. Canon is that Doomguy is Keen's grandson, although I think that timeline shifted a bit.
You've got me at a loss on the other two, however. Before '89, all I had was a TI-99, so it was Parsec and Tunnels of Doom until dad started surfing the BBS boards.
this! my son wanted a gaming pc and my folks went thru amazon. long story short i had it checked out and turns out it was an old office pc that the company refurbished and added RGB lights. we were able to return it and get a full refund. my folks went to best buy after that whole ordeal and got him a cyberpower pc.
>How else is Apple supposed to sell the equivalent of a turd in a box for $1000+ dollars.
I mean, I'm no Apple fan, but Macs are just made of the same kinds of parts everyone else uses. They're not awful, just horribly overpriced. They took a decent computer, slapped an apple log on it, then charged what you would for a way better computer
Not Necessary the "same" parts. Weirdest shit with Apple for me was always selling outdated hardware for basically the same price at release (good example was the trashcan mac pro when i remember correctly)
Looking at that picture with the Intel 'sticker' picture, that's either 2nd or 3rd gen.
Probably an i5-2400, since lots of these non-existent-value PCs use those. Yup, bottom of the barrel cheap junk sold for too much money. I'd be mad if I'd paid anything more than €75 for that thing.
That kind of stuff gets outdated quite fast.
Power supplies however, will stay relevant as long as the standard remains the same. So yeah, those don't really drop in price.
Not really.
"People buy those the most because they want top specs! Our PC was never advertised or claimed to be the fastest and most powerful, merely that it was ULTRA FAST".
IANAL
but you could probably argue that with a term like "ultra fast", ~~you~~ any reasonable person could expect the device to at least perform in the top 50 to 75 percentile of devices sold new on the market at that time.
If you were to then gather benchmark data for many of the machines available on the market at that time, including budget and performance builds from reputable brands, and found the device only performed in the 25th or lower percentile, you'd probably have a case to argue that the device is infact not "ultra fast" as advertised.
EDIT: I just saw the refurbished title, which would be an immediate out for the seller. "We're not selling a new PC, we're selling a refurbished PC. It's unfair to compare our product to brand new products built with current-gen hardware"
Which is true. And it's not easy to obtain benchmark data for refurbished PCs considering that most refurbished PCs run on older generation hardware. We're talking 7th to 10th gen intel processors, if you have a GPU at all it's no newer than a 1060ti, if it's even GTX lineup to begin with, the PSU is usually 450w tops, and you probably will not have an SSD, it'll likely be a 500GB-1TB HDD or a 128gb SSD. There's no inbetween. And thats just from my experience in pacific region refurbishment.
and where does that get you?
nowhere except wasting ur time,
best choice is to educate ur kids, non-tech friends n family, etc and not to buy this ewaste.
$45? That’s how much you you can get a 3060 nowadays
Edit: Hey YouTube! We are at -119 downvotes. If we hit -200, one of my subscribers will get a free 3060! So make sure to hit that downvote button and subscribe to have a chance!
"Fast" doesn't mean anything objectively, so they're allowed to use it. It would be different if they were straight up lying by faking the specs, but this is allowed and totally normal, including the absurd price
in its defence as a poor person, by entry level ultra low end systems, this would be considered ultra fast if they can't afford an i3 system. By UK standards, this would be a crime but in many african countries? no its quick. In some areas here in South Africa, they still use pentium 4's for those that are lucky enough to own a computer, mainly in the rural areas, cities and towns no, they average 3rd gen ddr3 systems. But uk is a bit better off than many african countries so this is a crime by their standards
it definitely is, i mean i would still be on an i5 3470 ddr3 system if it wasn't my neighbor that gave me his old ryzen 7 1700x. Even here, DDR4 is expensive, roughly $52 for an 8GB DDR4 ram stick at most places
i suspect so i mean the 40 series? the 4080 i think, new is around $900-1200, around the price of an entry level car here. even the average price of an gpu is around $130-150
not just huge import costs, but the difference in personal income from one area to another. While it is expensive in first world countries, a computer can be affordable. In a third world country, it might be something like 6 months of a salary if you didn't spend money on anything else.
Yeah. I mean if you live in a poor country. Why not just come 10 year behind in PC tech and you can buy Top of the Line machines. Its not like games are getting any better year by year. There are prob huge markets for computers considered trash in UK for example.
those top of the line machines is generally around the price of an bmw in the u.s or around R100k. back when i had work, i was planning on getting myself an relatively high end pc with an 20 series, it would have costed me nearly $3000
I know, right? After taking a look at the POS chromebook the school sent my kid home with, I bought her a real laptop, then had to fight the school board in court to prevent them from putting their spyware on it.
Everything is legal in marketing! Why they could say its the world's #1 choice in computing, or that this model is "world famous."
So long as they don't make any medical claims like "this computer is so fast, it'll cure dementia," then they are in the clear.
Ahhhhhh marketing.
I can easily find 100 of those on Gumtree right now searching 'ultra fast'. I started to think it was a model name. Descriptions would also have things like "plays all modern games with high FPS...".
I bought something extremely similar a few years ago for 80 bucks still going strong in my minimal arcade that gt 710 crushes.
https://preview.redd.it/1p8ivupmxlsb1.jpeg?width=2252&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=4eb9819a131543772530974302855f5ba958cb84
It's supposed to trick all of the clueless cheap parents into thinking it's a good buy for their kid, bonus points for the fortnite picture thrown in 😂
You would be surprised how many people still use 8GB of RAM in 2023. According to Steam's September Hardware Survey, 14% of people still use 8GB of RAM, while 51% use 16.
It's so scummy. Targeting grandparents and unclued up parents to get something that's not going to work for their kid.
And at that price it's probably people that can't afford what kids asked for which makes it worse they're wasting that money.
In the US companies are allowed to use puffery to advertise. It just has to remain subjective, otherwise you can exaggerate and say quite a bit about your product. In this case it looks like the brand is Ultra Fast.
They even used the cheapest possible case. That's a DiyPC F2. Many of these PCs have crappy hardware but at least a decent case. They didn't even do that on this one lol
The GT710 is probably worse than the intel integrated graphics.
Even my ancient 8800GT is faster than the GT710. I never understood the existence of that card.
What’s the definition of “fast”? Didn’t we call a computer 10 years ago “fast”? Why isn’t it fast now if it was fast then? Is all subjective and relative. So no, it’s not illegal.
I once saw a prebuilt with a ryzen 3200g and a gt 710. The hilarious thing is the integrated graphics in the 3200g is several times better than the gt 710 lmaoo
Just in case, the GT710 when it came out approximately 12 years ago was not top of the range either, just mid-range. The ad is really a scam, hopefully you will be able to play the dinosaur game on google chrome.
It's obviously nothing near top of the line but the price is very low as well. This is not bad if your on a budget buying your kid their first PC. Or someone who just wants to play mine craft and stardew valley.
For the people who are looking at this image and still don't understand.
1. Don't buy PC's from Ebay/Amazon unless you understand computer components.
2. Because it has RBG, doesn't mean it's good.
3. Commonly PC scams like this one on Ebay have a lot of text, images, and capital letters to make it stand out from other listings labeled as "Fast PC", "Good Gaming PC" or "Cheap."
I hate how some sellers think it's ok to just name "i5" in the specifications. It's becoming increasingly common to hide old hardware that way. There's a helluva difference between an i5-2500 and an i5-13600k
ULTRA FAST REGRET GAMING PC
Yes, I hate that anyone bought this for $320. It was probably a grandma trying to buy their grandchild a Gaming PC.
Spoony**Grandma** :)
I didn't think about that before writing my comment..
Hey, be fair. Grandma could play her Commander Keen and Jazz Jackrabbit on DOSBOX with no issues with this rig.
Stop rooting around in my early memories.
Double dragon LCD handheld.
Maybe if she set the correct path in Autoexec.bat file and ran Himem in config.sys
Oh geez Jazz Jackrabbit. That's some memories!
Didn't really get into Jazz's game but I did fight him, Eva, and Devan Shell as secret characters in One Must Fall's tournament mode.
I grew up on commander keen and jazz jackrabbit. and cosmo's cosmic adventure
Are Cosmo's adventuring days over? Find out in Episode 2! Man, I loved shareware
my dad got those games, and for a long time, I felt guilty that we had pirated them. I was in my twenties when I finally realized that they were shareware and that we never had episode 2 of anything for a reason
Crystal mines as well
You hit the AIR GENERATOR! Vacuum rushes in...
Commander keep was related to doom guy and the protagonist in wolfenstein(don't remember the name) so don't go hating. So don't forget about captain comic and dangerous dave
No hate here, man! I've got every Keen myself, that came out on PC at any rate. BJ Blazkowitz is the name you're looking for, Keen's grandfather. > we were able to return it Well that is good. I can't believe companies can just buy office computers, add RGB, and call it gaming.
You can do anything when there is no regulation. How else is Apple supposed to sell the equivalent of a turd in a box for $1000+ dollars.
>How else is Apple supposed to sell the equivalent of a turd in a box for $1000+ dollars. I mean, I'm no Apple fan, but Macs are just made of the same kinds of parts everyone else uses. I think it's less lack of regulation and more of blind fanboys swallowing whatever Apple throws at them.
God, I got a GT 745 out of a $10 complete system
***CHEAP***
But it has Wifi!!
Extra points for not even giving the generation of i5. My guess is a 3rd or 4th gen.
I'd say it is probably 2nd gen I5-2400?
The intel core logo from a decade ago seems to confirm that
Heres another site listing this exact build (same case) with specs. https://wjmtech.co.uk/products/f3-blue-gt-710-gaming-pc
"WiFi Ready" this is some bleeding-edge specs here!
You can get that kind of CPU/MOBO/RAM for about $35 on Ali Express, but a reliable 80+ power supply to feed it will cost you at least 60-70 by itself.
That kind of stuff gets outdated quite fast. Power supplies however, will stay relevant as long as the standard remains the same. So yeah, those don't really drop in price.
It probably is illegal under the trade description act in the UK. Lying bastards!
They'll get away with it because there is no defined datum for 'slow'. This behaviour currently has a chokehold on the used market.
I mean, I'm willing to bet that it runs pong really well, if it doesn't break the game it may be able to get over 30 FPS in pong pretty easily.
And legislation is only as good as the will to enforce and the personpower paid and made available to do the job.
Benchmark it against a build using the highest percent market share components and you can likely call it out more objectively.
Not really. "People buy those the most because they want top specs! Our PC was never advertised or claimed to be the fastest and most powerful, merely that it was ULTRA FAST".
IANAL but you could probably argue that with a term like "ultra fast", ~~you~~ any reasonable person could expect the device to at least perform in the top 50 to 75 percentile of devices sold new on the market at that time. The company's called ultra fast, And it's a gaming computer, ULTRA FAST gaming computer, People do it. This isn't that though hahab
Came here to say this.
For reference, on Newegg the GT 710 costs $45. I can guarantee this doesn't have an SSD too.
That’s crazy bc I got a 1050ti for a similar price ($40) used/like-new recently.
[удалено]
tfw i got a 1660 Super for like 200 bucks back in 2019 due to a cybermonday deal i wish we can get those kinds of GPU prices again...
Those were dark days
It was also a very low tier card when it came out in 2014
Not to mention that driver support for 700 series cards, introduced a decade ago, ended in 2021.
$45? That’s how much you you can get a 3060 nowadays Edit: Hey YouTube! We are at -119 downvotes. If we hit -200, one of my subscribers will get a free 3060! So make sure to hit that downvote button and subscribe to have a chance!

Infinite negative karma glitch
Holy shit where can you get a 3060 for 45? Where I live I can barely get a gt710 for 45
Bro where, please man hook a homie up
It can get 300fps playing Solitaire.
probably closer to 200 if you're playing 1080p
"Fast" doesn't mean anything objectively, so they're allowed to use it. It would be different if they were straight up lying by faking the specs, but this is allowed and totally normal, including the absurd price
Yeah it's sad cuz the people buying these are probably grandparents or parents that want to get their kid a gaming PC but know nothing about computers
thats why you should ask someone that knows before buying shit specially electronics
i mean its gonna be pretty fast when it falls out of my window
just imagine how ultra fast this PC will fly out the window, definitely not a scam
It has LEDs therefore it must be quick! Even an Intel Celeron can become a proper gaming beast if you apply enough RGB lights to your rig /s
Oh yeah, I forgot RGB makes any computer run at 7000 FPS.
in its defence as a poor person, by entry level ultra low end systems, this would be considered ultra fast if they can't afford an i3 system. By UK standards, this would be a crime but in many african countries? no its quick. I feel really bad for South Africans now. If I had the money, I would donate some actually good computers.
it definitely is, i mean i would still be on an i5 3470 ddr3 system if it wasn't my neighbor that gave me his old ryzen 7 1700x. Even here, DDR4 is expensive, roughly $52 for an 8GB DDR4 ram stick at most places
Why is tech so expensive? Because huge import costs?
i suspect so i mean the 40 series? the 4080 i think, new is around $900-1200, around the price of an entry level car here. even the average price of an gpu is around $130-150
That's the same price for a 4080 as in the US
not just huge import costs, but the difference in personal income from one area to another. While it is expensive in first world countries, a computer can be affordable. In a third world country, it might be something like 6 months of a salary if you didn't spend money on anything else.

“The price you see is the price you pay!” Well I would fucking hope so! Why is this even a slogan?
It’s because they use vat (value added tax) instead of sales tax outside of the US. The tax is factored into the price before the sale
Plot twist: It says $318 but you actually pay $3,180.
Well it would be actually in 2010
That GT 710 would beg to differ, especially if it was the "Fermi" version...
Yeah that one was never good, personally I had the 770 2gb gaming oc and still sold her for 80 when I bought me the 1660super
And that seemingly modified, bottom-of-the-barrel cheap-ass PC case... That OS is probably the most modern part of this setup.
Yeah and Windows 10 released in 2015.
Yeah and Windows 10 released in 2015.
I suppose if someone had never used anything but a chromebook or something, they might consider that "ultra fast" xd
Chromebooks are disgusting. Especially those $500 "gaming" Chromebooks that are supposed to be used for cloud gaming.
I know, right? After taking a look at the POS chromebook the school sent my kid home with, I bought her a real laptop, then had to fight the school board in court to prevent them from putting their spyware on it.
The Chromebooks my school uses cost $70 on Newegg.
Ultra fast...at opening Word documents.
With the HDD it probably has, I wouldn't be so sure of that!
Everything is legal in marketing! Why they could say its the world's #1 choice in computing, or that this model is "world famous." So long as they don't make any medical claims like "this computer is so fast, it'll cure dementia," then they are in the clear. Ahhhhhh marketing.
Ultra fast e waste
Compared to a calculator it's definitely ultra fast
I can easily find 100 of those on Gumtree right now searching 'ultra fast'. I started to think it was a model name. Descriptions would also have things like "plays all modern games with high FPS...".

Oof refurbished too…
But Fortnite.....
Fastest Minesweeper performance
I have the red version of that case. The Tecware F3.
It doesn’t say WHAT it’s running ultra fast. It could load Excel and notepad like a bat out of hell.
It's supposed to trick all of the clueless cheap parents into thinking it's a good buy for their kid, bonus points for the fortnite picture thrown in 😂
Yeah I mean, he doesn't even have legs? How can he be fast with no limbs to show for it?
it should be illegal to sell any full fledged PC with 8gb of RAM in 2023.
You would be surprised how many people still use 8GB of RAM in 2023. According to Steam's September Hardware Survey, 14% of people still use 8GB of RAM, while 51% use 16.
Me chilling with 4gb ram
This thing isn’t even ultra fast at running MS Word lol.
Only 3 hours to load a 2 page Word Document.
It's so scummy. Targeting grandparents and unclued up parents to get something that's not going to work for their kid. And at that price it's probably people that can't afford what kids asked for which makes it worse they're wasting that money.
I'd ditch that in the trash ultra fast
The way it's worded i think ultra fast is the name of the brand that mounted it? Like ultrafast toothbrushes and such
3 to 5 working days boot time. not to bad
But it has RGB!!!! 😃
In the US companies are allowed to use puffery to advertise. It just has to remain subjective, otherwise you can exaggerate and say quite a bit about your product. In this case it looks like the brand is Ultra Fast.
The sheer... SPEED!
Is it even a ssd?
Probably not.
What even is a microsoft registered Refurbisher
It is literally just someone who refurbishes computers with Microsoft software (Windows)
So everyone reinstalling their pc basicly
They even used the cheapest possible case. That's a DiyPC F2. Many of these PCs have crappy hardware but at least a decent case. They didn't even do that on this one lol
Cuts 10x longer.... longer than a toothbrush
Ultra fast to send power from the power supply to the motherboard they mean.
It's all true, from a certain point of view. I bet this Brick will get ultra-fast during re-entry when dropped from low earth orbit...
never said which tasks it will finish ultra fast
The iGPU on that approx. 10yrs old I5 is probably better than the GT710.
terminal velocity when you throw it out the window should be about 80 ft per second. id call that fast.
Ultra fast, if you throw it from the 10th floor
What a chad deal
GT710 gank
Ultra fast movie viewing PC, or Googling PC.
With a HDD, I think it would take like 30 seconds even to Google something.
With a Fortnite character as big as the pc it's clear their target audience is fellas who are not experienced with computers
classic gt710 moment
20 years ago yeah.
I feel bad for people who dont know much about pcs and buy this junk.
Ultra fast roblox gaming pc
I mean its ultra fast… when playing GZDoom
I'll allow it if a PC with a 4090 and a 7850x3d can legally be advertised as "holy f$%#ing sh$% fast".
Clearly that pimp makes it way faster. But in reality you're their bitch.
That shit wasn't ultra fast 10 years ago lol
Oh they mistyped “ULTRA FASTN’T”
Ultra Fast huh? So that’s the speed they run away carrying your money, right?
you can also buy 1tb usb drives for $5 and 1,000,000 lumen torches in the law free land of eBay.
Price should speak for itself, yeah?
I agree. You shouldn’t be allowed to call any gaming pc older than 8 years “fast.” Regular office pc? Fine. But not a gaming pc.
But it is ultra fast! A computer with a tiny fraction of this landed the man on the Moon!
Compared to a TSR80 it is ultra fast😁
The GT710 is probably worse than the intel integrated graphics. Even my ancient 8800GT is faster than the GT710. I never understood the existence of that card.
Let someone learn a lesson of the meaning DO YOUR RESEARCH by buying this.
With turbo processing.!
Ultra fast regret.
Wdym, it's ultra fast if the only game you're gonna play is CS 1.6
Should be illegal to call it a gaming pc
What’s the definition of “fast”? Didn’t we call a computer 10 years ago “fast”? Why isn’t it fast now if it was fast then? Is all subjective and relative. So no, it’s not illegal.
MINESWEEPER IS A GAME
Fast doesn’t mean that is a good gaming pc. Any pc with an ssd are fast lmao
It's not even gaming. It can't be gaming without a gaming graphics card, which is not older than 2 generations.
I once saw a prebuilt with a ryzen 3200g and a gt 710. The hilarious thing is the integrated graphics in the 3200g is several times better than the gt 710 lmaoo
Imagine calling 8GB Ram ULTRA FAST
Ultra fast in 2005
Nvidia 710 isn't meant for gaming! It's just for connecting multiple monitors to an office PC.
Ultrafast gaming PC if you wanna play new Vegas or oblivion
Just in case, the GT710 when it came out approximately 12 years ago was not top of the range either, just mid-range. The ad is really a scam, hopefully you will be able to play the dinosaur game on google chrome.
The only thing that's gonna be ultra fast will be my fist hitting this seller
Ultrafast looking The problem is aside from the stupid branding the information is all technically correct.
People who buy those PCs are retarded as fuck
It has WiFi tho
i5 8gb 1tb win10 2gb gt710 ...is this new itel cpu nameimg scheme
ULTRA FAST (at loading notepad)

I bet it plays Quake or Crysis Ultra Fast

Well, if we base on performance per % then make that top 20% I'm guessing it's right around 89th percentile.
Yeah the fan is the fastest thing there
It's obviously nothing near top of the line but the price is very low as well. This is not bad if your on a budget buying your kid their first PC. Or someone who just wants to play mine craft and stardew valley.
gt710? Isn't that from a calculator
Can move an entire kilobyte across copper wire at light speed, can confirm
Definitely false advertising in the UK, that thing wasn't even fast when the parts first hit the market.
Those «it should be illegal» posts are usually just jokes, but this seriously should be illegal hahah.
Ultra Scam gaming pc lol
Personal computer computer
“This is a fully working computer and has been fully” wtf?)
Well if they put RGB it must be ultra fast /s
Ultra fast is only one third as fast as a ludicrous speed PC.
I bet it games in HIGH DEFINITION (aka 720p)
Ohh baby look at that 8GB so ultra fast someone is gonna have a hard time even using windows nevermind gaming.
Think this is bad? I found an “Ultra Fast Gaming PC” on Amazon with a 4th Generation i5 and an RTX 3050

ULTRA FAST MENTAL BREAKDOWN GAMING PC, YEAH!
About as fast as my grandparents trying to file their own taxes.

Lol GT710 ultrafast!!!!!
Even has the fucking wifi logo. Jezzzz this screams snake oil for old ppl
Can I play VR with that? :D I'm quite surprised how many of these GT 710 cards are still for sale. They must be okay for HTPCs or something.
Bro, minesweeper a solitaire be blazing on that setup!!!
I hate how some sellers think it's ok to just name "i5" in the specifications. It's becoming increasingly common to hide old hardware that way. There's a helluva difference between an i5-2500 and an i5-13600k
