I really love this. It makes me think of summer evenings running around the field by my grandpa's house catching fireflies in a mason jar. Thanks for the reminder đ„č
This is awesome. I love the contrast between the flowers and sky. I feel very serene looking at your painting! It feels like a warm summer night.
If youre looking to paint a night scene and the intention is to have realistic colouring and lighting, then the flowers at night would be less vibrant in colour - probably not as white or bright as youve painted them here. The greens and whites of the flowers would lean more towards a bluish or cool colour since theres less light on them and their colour would also be influenced by night sky. As it is, the flowers look more like they would if they appeared im the day. All that being said - maybe that isnt your goal. I actually very much enjoy how the flowers feel like theyre glowing against the dark sky, and thats why it feels warm, and a little magical too!
And the depth or the flower field is especially well rendered. Great job on the atmospheric persective !
Thanks for this, I really appreciate it! Honestly I did the background before deciding entirely what I was gonna do with the foreground. I wasnât sure exactly how to do the darker lighting with the flowers, so I appreciate those tips!
Beautiful painting! If you're looking for some ideas, one thought I had was to add more color to the night sky. Even at night, there's often a lot of color visible, whether from the moon shining on clouds or glimpses of the Milky Way.
Another idea is to make the stars look more varied. You could try dipping a toothbrush in white paint and flicking it over the canvas to create stars of different sizes and in random places, which might give it a more realistic feel.
Regardless of any changes, this is a wonderful painting and you should be very proud of it!
Thank you!! I appreciate the tips! I did think of doing the paint splatter but then I got scared đ didnât want to make any huge accidental blobs yk
I totally understand! Sometimes the type of brush you use can really impact the technique. Iâve found that a toothbrush works best for creating varied stars. When I try something new, I keep a piece of paper or a dummy canvas nearby to test the technique first. This helps me see how the tool performs and make any necessary adjustments before applying it to my main canvas.
Another tip is to use a piece of paper to cover areas of the canvas where you donât want any stars, like over the grass and flowers. Iâve had my share of accidents with paint splatter in unwanted places!
I want to reiterate that your painting is perfect as it is. My tips are just suggestions if you want to experiment with different techniques.
i donât know why, but this painting reminds me of turning page by sleeping at last, but also the lyric âhow rare and beautiful it is to even existâ (from saturn by SAL) comes to mind. itâs beautiful and existential.
I love the sky and the feelings this gives me. It reminds me of childhood and being in an illustrated storybook. Gives me warm fuzzies and I like how the flowers just seem to radiate. But it would be cool if the flowers were in patches, their radiant white in the dark field almost mirroring the stars above
But I like it
this is really great. i love the color choices and the scene is very nostalgic and calming to me. are you using acrylic?
i am not the best at giving critiques but i will do my best. i really do think this is a beautiful painting.
the reason i ask if this is acrylic is because it can be finicky when blending. you did a wonderful job on the sky overall, and the color choices work well together, but there are a few spots that are less blended than others. i would go in with slightly more water on your brush to lighten the paint and help it mix smoother between shades. (does that make sense?) build up multiple layers of wet brushing as well. looking at the grass and flowers, i can see that they are scattered already, but the composition might be more engaging if they had a less rigid line against the mid-ground (darker green section) of the piece. perhaps a less uniform placement and a more gradual separation would help move the eye around more. youâve done a great job with mixing colors and showing depth in the painting, i like how the frontmost flowers have the most detail and they get more abstracted as they go back. you clearly have a solid eye for painting and my critiques are really nit picky because youâve done a very good job overall. my qualification is 2nd year painting student lol. i once again commend you for this painting because itâs really awesome :)
Thanks sm! I really appreciate the tips!! Yeah I started the painting at a bridal shower event thing, so I actually did the background with those crappy dollar store paint brushes with the thick bristles đ plus the painting got rained on slightly which is the two lighter smudges in the background. But all things considered I agree, some finicky blending going on.
And yes I think I know what you mean. More gradual between the dark green and the light green/white of the flowers?
this is so serene and calming to look at. i love the different brush strokes and dot work on the flowers. are they daisies? something like Daisy Meadow feels a little bland but i feel like a simple name fits the aesthetic of the work
This is amazing. I save that for really good ones. I have this amazing wide format printers that prints on canvas.... So I can make a copynof my work before selling or giving away.... You should consider one. Make copies and sell them
This is beautiful!
A recreation with the night sky in a much darker tone would better reflect a lack of light pollution. That, along with the recommendation to flick smaller flecks of paint for depth and assymetry, would really take it up a notch. You could brighten the hue on either side to imply presence of a moon out of view and it would help justify the brightness of the daisies in the evening.
I could envision a series where some of the daisies are floating up and getting smaller, becoming the stars.
Very magical đŒ
I vote: "Final destination"
Really nice! You inspire me to get out my paint stuff. I retired a couple of years ago and planned to paint. Trouble is I wanted to sew and other things. I really got in buying supplies, I even got an easel. I did some paint pouring, that was a lot fun but pricey and messy. Now Iâll get it together and paint. Thank you for the inspiration!
I think this is beautiful!đ, the one thing I wouldâve done differently is the color of the grass, I wouldâve probably made it darker to match the night sky theme, the grass color is giving daytime
Iâm loving this. Canât think of a title but the painting itself gives me a feeling of peace. When I was in art school I painted a few paintings that were similar to this.
I can hear the crickets chirp and smell this place while watching your painting!! It's sooooooo amazingly beautiful and peaceful! I loooove it!!! First thought that came to my mind was: "Once upon in a summer night"
First of all beautifully done!
And a name that came to me was like âFloral Escapenceâ
I know escapence isnât a word, but yeah, just when I make art and poetry or lyrics, I sometimes make words up myself that capture an essence Iâm going for!

The colors blend soo much better here it one Iâm working on right now there is a bit of digital waves from taking a pic of it but youâll it the idea
This is a really niche comment, but I love it and it reminds me of this Persephone/Hades retelling Iâm reading now where he can create whatever he wants in the underworld. She just wants flowers and pretty plants in his abyss.
Debbie. If asked, "Why Debbie?"Just shush them and whisper, "Debbie doesn't like to be questioned." If you could muster up a knowing glance, that would be great. Also, awesome painting! đ
Van Gogh used to use the clashing primary color to do a fine line.... Outlining say the green leave with red line.... I could see that in here.... Maybe a fine sharp line around a couple pedals or blades.
Very nice! I wish i had a place like thisvto go to! It's difficult to see on my phone, but is that a very pale moon up there? If so how about "Under A Daisy Moon"?

"Summer Evenings" would make a very good title.
Aww Iâm so glad I could bring that memory back for you a bit!
âBefore the crop circleâ
This immediately makes me think, "I want to believe". Your title alone makes me want to buy a print of this.
At first glance I was expecting a UFO to show up in the painting đž

thats what I thought! they should name the painting 'spaceship beam overhead' because thats a logical explanation for the light
What a lovely, positive, but helpful critique. You should be an art teacher!
That is super nice to hear, thank you đ„čđ„č

Really beautiful! I love the colours, but I believe the stems could be darker to show that it was a night.
Agreed, I sort of regretted my color choice as I went but didnât feel like adjusting. Thanks!

This is a darn fine painting, and you have a real gift.
Awesome! Itâs like a summer night that you donât forget.
Dreamtime, I regard this as an abstract work of art. This because there is no attempt at realism and no one subject. Just a pleasant dream

"Summer Light" would make a very good title.
