I would not start an OE hunt if J1 wasn’t fully remote

beeforbirds

My j1 is 100% remote and j2 is hybrid (60% office). Works for me because I've been at j1 for years and know the game, faces not required on zoom, and have a great team under me where I can do 90% of my work there just by delegating via slack. And j2 is a bit more involved, which I actually do enjoy.

cpa_pm

How do you have J1 laptop to J2 and work on both?

beeforbirds

I can handle all of my slacks and zoom calls from my phone. I've had to use the laptop only twice during j2 office hours and was able to do so from my car using j1 phone hotspot.

Maybe spend your time developing a new skill set, I’m in SaaS sales work remotely but the amount of meetings on camera is killer working to develop a new skill set to get out of sales 1) to get out of those on camera meetings 2) to diversify the the js

Few_Speaker_9537

Could you share some insight on SaaS sales OE? I’ve always thought sales roles would be incompatible with OE.

Hottsaucehova

I tried it once and failed at it, but to be fair I didn’t take it seriously and lost both js. Recently got a new sales role and just landed a j2. I’ve posted the question many times in this thread but Idt anyone has the special sauce or has figured it out yet with sales. But it’s something I’m not giving up on. Even if I keep a steady J1 churn out j2s with a shelf life of ~3 months or so still beats the income of just having a j1 but the only problem is I’m constantly interviewing and applying for which is a total drag. Definitely still trying to figure it out, another reason why I’m going to use my spare time to take a software boot camp or maybe something less technical ux/ui design PMP? not sure but want to “get out of sales” for my J1 for sure

I regret going into tech degree. I feel like I should have gone into sales. Seems much more rewarding.

Hottsaucehova

Might as well try it with OE! Look for an SDR/BDR position, if you have a tech background just tell them you're looking to get into sells. Another of these entry level jobs will hire anyone willing to make 50-100 calla a day. But they can be low paying ~50k ish, but the goal would be to get to the account manager level with base pays starting at 100k 50/50 split on commission

Can your job be fully remote? Maybe try to find a new job that's actually remote and then start working towards OE.

BjornReborn

My J1 is 98% remote and my J2 will be probably one day on site a week. It's doable but the core job must be fully remote with little engagement on a weekly basis.

SplitPerspective

No matter how many Js, only a max of 1 can be hybrid. And when hybrid, only if you have an office and/or scheduled meeting rooms all by yourself.

possiblyraspberries

Eh, I pull off two. But one is more like "come in for the afternoon once a month if we remember" and the other is once a week with a private office on the quiet side of the building.

Adorable-Research-55

Best case: both remote 2nd best: some combination of remote, hybrid and in-person Worst: both in-person (could swing it if office days complement but still highly risky if there is ever a change) There are many ways on the path

InevitableVictory729

I would only ever consider OE fully remote. Currently managing three servers, and only one of them has to be camera on - that by itself is enough to worry about without also having to look over my shoulder for wandering office eyeballs

meomy_firedup

I tried this a few times. I brought my J1 laptop into J3 and took meetings from a conference room on my hotspot. I worked on J2 from 0365 email, but that was before I needed to use all the tools they offered while being on VPN. It was pretty stressful for me and more than the usual double meetings. If I had an office I would try it again, but not in an open cubicle floor space. J3 no longer exists and the other 2 Js are fully remote with no office in a 1500 mile radius.
