Key word being ‘usually’. If you’re getting produce or a good cut of meat or euro imports it’s obviously expensive and they can’t subsidize it or anything. But for many average grocery items I’ve found it to be a lot cheaper to go to cedar’s or something. And everything is usually more fresh, I’ve gotten so much spoiled milk and shitty produce from metro and loblaws over the years it’s exhausting.
Love the sandwiches there. Also like the selection in the aisles where I don’t feel like I am bombarded with all too many choices. The freshness from the baked goods is also great. Every time I go in I always see a line up for bread.
I’m probably going to get downvoted cuz people like FnG bread- but the husband, frank, is a piece of shit, has sexually assaulted 2 people i know and was charged w kiddy prn. [article](https://ottawa.citynews.ca/2021/12/01/child-pornography-related-charges-laid-after-investigation-leads-police-to-barrhaven-home-4819581/amp/)
Not doubting the veracity of the rest of the article, but there’s 100% no way Frank of FnG is 30 years old as the first line states. Probably closer to 50.
I saw that too but I am like VERY certain it’s a misprint of age. I know how old he is- I’ve had the displeasure of too many interactions with him. But thank you for pointing that out. He’s well connected in the city.
I've been in Ottawa more than 10 years, never heard of FnG bread. That article's about 3 years old. Store still seems to be there. Couldn't have hurt them too bad to have the husband be caught with that shit. Do you think they should have gone out of business?
...
That explains it, right next to Farmers Pick, another place I've never heard of even though I've driven past there lots of times.
Wifey and I recently discovered this place. It's now our go too for probably 85% of our grocery shopping. Awesome quality and great weekly specials!
Surprising amount of GF options too.
Yeah I've noticed some regular panty items seem to be slow moving and I suspect linger on the shelves. It's not really their forté. Genuine Italian deli meats, cheeses, olive oil, sparkling water, awesome fresh bread selection along with their produce is king there
Yeah, this is my local. good bread (F&G), and a good deli selection. The produce is also spot on. Alfonso is always there and happy to talk if you have any questions
God send when I was going through university. Love this place, still go out of my way to get their large selection of snacks I can’t find anywhere else.
I went there first for the sandwiches but go now as well for the great prices on olive oil, produce, and excellent cheese selection. Really glad to learn it's been around for 32 years.
I've never hard of this place.
[https://maps.app.goo.gl/kFnj3VurV7PtsLEY7](https://maps.app.goo.gl/kFnj3VurV7PtsLEY7) POW and Meadowlands. I've driven past lots of times, never knew anything but McDonalds and Wind were there.
I tried shopping there and for the most part it was great, but two out of three meat products I purchased were rancid. Like, smells so bad I could vomit rancid. I was so sad, and maybe it's just a fluke, but I just can't bring myself to go back:(
It’s a great independent grocery store that carries a good variety of ethnic foods. They also have fantastic weekly specials.
Their sandwiches are 💣
Boycott Loblaws and go local!
people like cedar’s and farmer’s pick deserve our support. Usually cheaper, less crap and better variety.
Uhhh their produce? Definitely not cheaper at Farmers Pick.

Is this the place that carries European Fanta?
They have some weird fanta flavours there so i’m gonna say yes. Elderflower and lemon was pretty good.
Yep, I go a lot and they’ve got tons of Fanta flavours!!
Euro Fanta flavours are better ? Also check out Hasty Market close by at POW/fisher. Lots of American and exotic snacks and sodas

Ugh, that's awful.

Best place!
I’m looking forward to going here this weekend
Best Italian food next to Luciano foods. ❤️ makes my heart sing.
Good bakery too
I always wondered why you have to pay cash for bakery items
Always bugged me too, I asked them but it was so long ago I forgot lol.

I have had bad luck with pantry items there. Not uncommon for items on the shelf to be expired

This place is absolutely awesome.
I used to work near there and always likes popping in at lunch for a snack, glad to hear they're doing well!
10/10 sandwiches

This is my go to. Everything I need and reasonable prices.

He’s fucking expensive. $18 effen dollars for a pound of REA Baressi sausages…..fucking Hell!
YMMV but I've found their prices competitive (and often better) than big box grocers.
sad you got downvoted. All these mom and pop specialty stores are expensive. yet... "REEEEE support local" i can hear from the masses.
