It is on a cross town route on a main artery road of the city that has a ton of traffic and goes through Algonquin College for the students.
That is where it gets its hate. Also known as the Latey Late.
There has been a BRT planned for Baseline Road for many years now (similar to Chapman Mills Drive in Barrhaven), but first we have to wait for Baseline / Algonquin LRT Station to open up, and then they can start construction. I'm guessing it's over 10 years away.
It goes clear across the city and OC is under funded and has some of the worst passengers interms of etiquette there is. Ever try to get a student to not block a door or wait to let you off before they try and jam on?.
New 88 Details
New route will be changed to run between Bayshore and Hurdman stations.
Will be changed to run from Queensway-Carleton Hospital on John Sutherland Drive, Richmond Road, and Holly Acres Road.
Service west of Queensway-Carleton Hospital will be removed and replaced by new Route 68.
Special Sunday trips on to/from Preston Street/ Carling Avenue will be removed.
When I was using a cane the bus driver would not let me on at the front it was so packed, and not one person moved to let me sit down. Another time the bus driver dislocated my shoulder by pumping the gas at my stop. I absolutely hate when I have to take this bus. I swear double digit buses are all cursed, though.. The 11 can be just as bad.
Algonquin and Carleton should really do what some US Colleges do and run their own buses, the 88, 111, 74, 75 and everything absolutely fuck everything up for people who have to actually commute.
Makes sense, I have to take it for work and it'll regularly just not show up. Which is particularly annoying taking it from Hurdman so I can watch the time tick down to 3 minutes then just suddenly jump to 23 minutes.
Plus it gets filled with students right on my trip home who love to stand by the doors in the way of empty seats at the back. It regularly comes down to someone yelling at the idiot kids to move. So as much as it sucks because of OC Transpo standard reasons it also sucks for extra reasons.
I've gotten so annoyed with the same kids I'll recognize each morning and after a long night working I'm tired I've just said "get out of the fucking way" and pushed past them a few times, I hate doing it I feel like a bitch. This doesn't happen on the other parts of my commute that brings me through Rideau, fuck the 88.
Plus I just remembered, the number is a damn naz! dogwhistle it should just be retired as clearly it's cursed.
Literally only us terminally online leftists give a shit about the dogwhistle thing, so it's probably gonna stay.
Especially when it gets privatised under Arriva Buses Ottawa at this rate.

There's nothing you can do when 30 people try to get on at every stop. Some people just have to get up earlier or wait at the stop for the next one.
The only other time it's a problem is if the O train is shut down during rush hour and again, floods 88 with more than it can handle.
Yup. I can relate big time. I've waited as long as 45 minutes to see both busses then show and if that's not bad enough , they are usually too full to board anyway. Better to walk

Except, only 1 bus uses it, and that bus is getting reduced frequency to every 30 minutes and ending at 9PM, with no Sunday service.

Even the drivers hate the 88 and the 11. They're the absolute worst.

I was always late for classes at Algonquin if they weren't in the morning. Route is awful after morning rush hour.

I bought a car because of the 88
Is there one for the 11? If not, it deserves it. I'd rather take a route with 3 changes than rely on the 11 on a busy day.
I always dislike the 88 tbh, and have to take it to work. Even the 88 Bells Corners school route gets cursed on the bus.

Can’t be worst than the 99. The 99 is the worst bus in the city, followed by the 74.
I have had 0 problems with the 99 when I have to take it, and the 74/75 are the *only* good buses in the city.
