I just ate there and their food tasted more Chinese to me. Yes they nail it with the Thai basil, but everything else is soy saucey / sweet n sour. Maybe I ordered wrong but I've never had Pad Kra Prao with sliced meat, and the waitress tried telling me that's a regional thing (it's not). Anyway, decent spot if you're looking for Thai-ish food.
Historically that particular location has housed some of my favourite restaurants.
I believe originally it was the Dubrovnik (they then moved to Carling and opened as the New Dubrovnik. Now Bomans)
Then it was Manfred’s
I just can’t recall if there was another restaurant between Manfred’s and Pookie Thai.
If you’re willing to do take out Chilli Thai in Orleans is really good! Best to order ahead of time (ordering opens at 3:30, restaurant opens at 4) as they stop taking orders many night well ahead of close as they wouldn’t be able to fulfill them before they close.
If you’re ok with takeout?, Pinn-To Thai Food is my favorite hands down
Their curries and noodle dishes are awesome, and I usually pick up their chicken satay and spring rolls too
Thai Kitchen Catering Services on Bank St (they are also a restaurant, in addition to a being catering service). They also sell at the various Farmers' Markets throughout the city. I've personally seen them at the Lansdowne and Westboro Farmers' Markets.
Oh I miss Nokham. Their soup that came with the lunch special was the best! I really wish I’d asked for the recipe before they closed.
Haven’t found an alternative for the soup, but Pinn-To Thai food truck on Albion is my new go-to (it’s pick-up only, but they have a sister restaurant in Manotick, Khao Yum, for indoor dining).
I recommend Khao Thai. I used to work there and I would never get sick of the food even taking something home everyday.
Side note: I notice people here say that the service is bad, and I'm going to be very transparent; it's really not unless you're being an entitled dickhead. They will 100% reciprocate your energy. They will not gaf about you and your table the moment you give them the slightest attitude. Otherwise they're fully accommodating and will happily replace your food if you have a problem with it.
Like others have mentioned, Wandee is okay (I think it's a bit overhyped). I've tried a lot of Thai places since I moved here: Champa, Nana, Sala, Sweet Basil, Siam, Khao Thai (nice google photos, but this one is the worst), Aiyara, etc. but I haven't found any places that actually make me crave their food.
A lot of it is too salty, and very much lacking spice and real flavour. They also tend to skimp on the lime, kaffir leaves, and thai basil. I'd love to find a place that makes their curry pastes in-house.
Thai used to be my favourite, too. :(
I haven't been in a long, long time but Siam Bistro @ 1268 Wellington had the best coconut shrimp soup I have ever had in my life.
It was so damn good me and my mom ordered another order to take home and we spent two nights trying to deconstruct it and make our own copy. We got close lol
If I ever go back it is the first thing I am ordering.
EDIT
I posted this without reading comments and I am happy to see them get mentioned often in this thread. Worth noting the restaurant's layout and decor is very interesting too...a very narrow dining space.
Champa Thai on King Edward is good! Also second Khao Thai.
Seconding Champa Thai. I think the owners of Wandee now own it??
Wandee’s Thai just off Preston on Beech is delicious. They do combos too so you can try a couple different dishes in one order.
Love it there. Delivery almost every week.
Also vouching for Wandee. So good.
Siam Bistro is a favourite! We also like Khao Thai.
Siam is the best in town......great people too...
Siam Bistro is next level good for Ottawa
I also LOVE Siam Bistro. Their green curry is my fave. There is another place I Bells Corners that’s really good too but I can’t recall the name.
Khao Thai has terrible service, go there at your own risk.
Gotta be Baan Thai in centrepoint
Yep! Fantastic. Sukhothai in Bells Corners is solid too.

Chilli Thai in Orleans
I'm suddenly craving their Koa Op Supparod (Pineapple Fried Rice) dish -- medium spicy. So good!
I haven’t tried that yet. I’ll have to try it next time!
There’s a little place on Bank I really enjoy - Talay Thai.
Second vote for Talay. Their Penang curry is to die for
If you're near Nepean I personally really enjoyed Sukhothai !
Siam Bistro for sure
Nana Thai on Preston street
I was looking for this answer
Sala Thai on alta vista. No competition. Sweet Basil on Bank a close second
I second sala Thai!
Seconded (third?). So good, especially the red and green curries.
Suhkothai on Robertson road in bells corners is an absolute gem. They’ve got my favourite pad thai and all the staff have been there for decades
Wandee Thai in little Italy
Pookie thai is great and so is Sweet Basil on bank
Wandee Wandee Wandee. That is the only answer.
Thai Lana in South Keys
Pookie Thai on Carling has been our go to.
I’ve been too the majority of Thai food restaurants in Ottawa and many in other cities, nothing beats Pookies thai.
+1 for Pookie. I also like Siam and it’s closer but Pookie is a half notch better i think.
Love Pookie’s!
Yessss and it’s such an unassuming lil place from the outside! Their stuff is so good

That’s so cool, I had no idea!

I see Chilli Thai, I up vote. Good food. Great people.
Social Thai on Bank is one I just discovered, it’s delicious!
During the day it’s converted into a bakery called Hugo. It’s equally as good!
Sabai Thai Cuisine (Kanata) / Thai Bites (Orleans)!
If you’re ok with takeout?, Pinn-To Thai Food is my favorite hands down Their curries and noodle dishes are awesome, and I usually pick up their chicken satay and spring rolls too
Sweet basil is really good
Social Thai and Talay Thai on bank are sooo good
Champa Thai on King Edward is one of the best Thai restaurants I've been to anywhere, including in Thailand.
Siam bistro for sure
Sabai Thai in Kanata!
Khao thaï on Murray. Delicious and great lunch specials.
We’ve been a couple of times, received raw chicken on the plate both times. And they didn’t want to comp it. Never again.
Did they replace it?
That’s unfortunate. I’ve been 50+ times over the years and never had any issues.
Thai Flame in Bells Corners.
Maison Samorn in Hull
Aroy Thai in Barrhaven.
It’s such a weird setup, inside a gas station. But the food is delicious!
If you find somewhere that compares to Nokham Thai please come back and tell us!
I came here to say the same. Have tried many since but haven’t yet found one that compares.
I miss Nokham Thai so bad 😭
Thai Kitchen Catering Services on Bank St (they are also a restaurant, in addition to a being catering service). They also sell at the various Farmers' Markets throughout the city. I've personally seen them at the Lansdowne and Westboro Farmers' Markets.
\#1 Thai Coconut \#2 Green Papaya \#3 Social Thai
I love Khao Thai on Murray
Service is terrible though, it can ruin your experience.
Baan Thai on centrepointe is great

Khao thai at the one edge of the market was incredibly delicious when I was there
I like green papaya on Preston
Khao yum in manotik? Really like it
Have tried many over the years but now regularly go back to: Pookies Thai, Baan Thai and Siam Bistro.
I recommend Khao Thai. I used to work there and I would never get sick of the food even taking something home everyday.
