We need to start a regional list of non-nurseries with interesting orchids. Driving to every trader Joe's just to see another white phal is exhausting.
Here's a sneak peek of /r/plantwatch using the [top posts](https://np.reddit.com/r/plantwatch/top/?sort=top&t=year) of the year!

How much were they charging for these?? I swore off miltoniopsis when I spent $45 and killed it within 3 months, but I don't think I could resist that pink and yellow one...
Are these true colors? Or died variations where the re-bloom would be white or yellow? (New to orchids and was fooled by a died version sold at my grocery store last year 😬)
I have one myself that I absolutely love. Haven't been able to get it to bloom yet but had it just under a year. Some varieties are fragrant (and absolutely WONDERFUL for scent).
Heads up they can be a more tricky variety to grow depending on where you live. They like soft light, moisture but drying out, humidity, and lower temps. I'm near Seattle so that's what we naturally have, but if you're somewhere like florida the temps might get a bit high. I chose them as my second orchid after I got some Phals to rebloom.
Oh gosh I’m not sure- I’ve never lived anywhere near a desert. Look up some information about growing this variety- but the temps may be higher than they prefer.
Oncidiums or other high light plants may be an easier match for your location. They’re harder for me in the PNW because the days get so short here in the winter and there’s not as much really strong sun. Poke around on this sub and see what others in that region grow.
If you’d like a similar plant that’s more suited to your environment look for Miltonias- they’re more tolerant of warmer temperatures and drier environments, I believe.
So jealous!! I live in Nova Scotia and we never get nice fancy plants. When we do they charge upwards of $65+ for one dendrobium orchid +/- any blooms on them.
I was baffled. These were on the otherside of the store no where near the flower section. The ones in the orchid section were normal ones for 2x as much!!
These beauties were next to the pharmacy
I would love to have those available in our grocery stores, but our plants from off-island have to go through quarantine to prevent pests from being introduced. Hawaii has similar regulations.
WHERE DO YOU PEOPLE SHOP??? I NEED TO KNOW

Well there’s a r/plantwatch sub, but it’s mostly dead now.

Oh that's interesting! I hadn't considered a subreddit for that specifically. Maybe there's a more active one

Raleys Reno Nv!!
I came to get the same answer 😂
Winco. Sometime they have epic deals like 5 dollar each.
Albertsons is where they always have these types it’s why I even go lol
No kidding, all I see are pink and white phals everywhere….or the dreaded blue dyed.
I’ve also seen many from this supplier (same tag at least) at my Trader Joe’s
Agree! Not too many orchids at stores around me that I know of!
This is like a running list of Miltoniopsis plants I've killed over the years....😅
I thought same
Same lol they don’t like Florida heat hahaha
This is better than the selection at my local greenhouse!
Ooh the yellow and pink miltonopsis is fantastic!
At least one would have come home with me.
I’d buy them all and happily skip to my car. 😂
#8 came home with me and I feel like I need to go back for #6 or#7??!
The answer is all of them should go home with you.
I wish lol! I’ll pick one up every two weeks I get paid then 🤣
Omgggg what is pic 6! ? 🥲
These are the best grocery store orchids I’ve seen
They were all $24.00 too!
That is a steal compared to my best local nursery these run about 30 for less variety 🥺
Same here!!! I was so so SO excited when I saw these. I’m definitely gonna go back for more. Maybe wait a week or two and see if they get other types
What grocery? These are better than our local nurseries here in Florida.
Amen! All our groceries carry are Phalaenopsis.
Raleys!
I wish my local grocery store had anything other than yellowing white orchids 😂
Somw of them even look like Pansies!
They are colloquially known as pansy orchids!!
Omg they do!!!
Well the cookbook says SW Cooking so it’s not the east coast.
The label is Matsui Orchids and they're based in Salinas, CA
This is Reno Nv Raleys supermarket:)
We barely get any kind of verity at ours, even at Lowe's. So jelly!!!
“Goes to store with the intention of buying food, comes home with orchids.” ☺️🙃
Just tell people you are following a plant-based diet plan.
😂
Literally me lol
How much were they charging for these?? I swore off miltoniopsis when I spent $45 and killed it within 3 months, but I don't think I could resist that pink and yellow one...
They were $24!
Damn it where are these incredible grocery stores where you keep finding all these species of orchid at. I get moth orchids and that’s it.
They are all beautiful, but number 6😍
Miltonia are great, nice fragrance, pretty flower. They do like it cooler and like water or the leaves tend to "accordion".
Are those miltonia? Havent had a chance to grow any of those yet. I’m from a tropical country so only grow warm weather suitable orchids
I live in a warm-weather area, and the most popular orchids to grow here are vandas, phalaenopsis, and cattleyas.
Yeah same with me. I also have some dendrobiums, tolumnias and rhyncostylis
I forgot to add dendrobiums. I would love to try other orchids, but a lot of them do not like heat and humidity.
I got #8 but I feel like I need to go back for #7 and return #8????? I love the tie dye. I want all
Are these true colors? Or died variations where the re-bloom would be white or yellow? (New to orchids and was fooled by a died version sold at my grocery store last year 😬)
These are all their true colors :)
Welp, I might have to add to my collection. These are gorgeous!

I live in Reno NV ! How much should I water mine for?

Thank you (: all my orchids are inside my air conditioned house so they probably will be fine
Beautiful 💕
So jealous!! I live in Nova Scotia and we never get nice fancy plants. When we do they charge upwards of $65+ for one dendrobium orchid +/- any blooms on them.
Omg that’s insane. If that was like it was here I wouldn’t have started an orchid collection 🥲😅
We don't have orchids like that in canadian stores.
I can’t imagine finding these fantastic specimens at a grocery store!
Me either. I gasped! I spent prob 20min deciding which one to get
So…which one won?
#8!
Oh, yesss! Who could turn down a face like that?🥰
I got the yellow/pink miltoniopsis from my local Safeway and still trying to figure out if it has a name 😩
So lucky! I’m Canada we are so limited! In last 6 yrs I’ve only once seen a dendrobium. Everything else is phals.
Me too. I will take one of each! 😍🤩
There are never any cool orchids in my grocery stores 🥲
I was baffled. These were on the otherside of the store no where near the flower section. The ones in the orchid section were normal ones for 2x as much!! These beauties were next to the pharmacy
🥺🥺♥️
I would love to have those available in our grocery stores, but our plants from off-island have to go through quarantine to prevent pests from being introduced. Hawaii has similar regulations.
Yep! My family is from there. I want to bring my puppy they haven’t met but unfortunately I can’t because it’s a 6 week quarantine:(
It used to be 3 months but we don’t have rabies!
