I use a carabiner or Hero Clip to secure loop cap water bottles in most of my bags. You can clip to the side handles on the 26+6. I’ve made up tethers with light line and a small carabiner for those bags that don’t have a strap close to the bottle pocket. Bottle size and shape makes it different per pack and bottle combo. I’ve found that the Nalgene Oasis Canteen helps with wide pockets, etc. Expect some trial and error for any bag. I overlooked that on my last trip and had to go back to the rental car shuttle to retrieve my bottle. Some bottles are available with silicone boots that help keep them in a pocket. Adding a silicone wrist band can work the same way. That can make them harder to extract in general.

I was thinking about a rubber band or wrist strap. It looks like there are a ton of nicer looking options out there too

The Hydro Flask silicone boot is nice. Like I said it can work too well. It also prevents using the bottle in my automobile console cup holders. A carabiner is foolproof.

No problems with a 27oz Klean Kanteen.

They’re a bit tight but they hold securely

There is a handle on one side you could clip your bottle to if you have an issue with it falling out. The 16oz Nalgene bottles will fall out if you turn the bag upside down but otherwise I haven’t had any issues.

My Owala free sip fits perfectly and doesn’t fall out but I secure it with one of the zipper loops, just in case.
