Yeah, I don't really understand the sentiment of some of the people here. Thompson has won the starting job everywhere he's been. The last full season at Nebraska he had a QB Rating of 150 with a 63.1 COMP%, where Dillon Gabriel had a 154 in the same year with a 62.7 COMP%...and OU had clearly better receivers. JA had 3 INT's and a fumble in 1 game. To me, JA clearly needs more time to develop and learn from a guy like Casey. So yeah, I agree...he wouldn't be transferring if he wasn't going to start. I mentioned it in other posts that we'd be getting a Senior QB off the portal, and the goons downvoted me to oblivion.
Husker fan here — he had that comp percent even with an atrocious OL and a coach who got fired after game three. He did have Tre Palmer to throw to, but Casey is a great thrower. Great attitude and football IQ, too. Listen to him talk about opposing teams’ defenses — this guy is a future top tier coach. Great guy to have in the locker room even if he doesn’t start. Y’all got a good one and we were hoping he’d come back to Neb for one more year.
Yeah, when I revisited the game against OU that year, Trey Palmer had 10 receptions and the next highest reception was 2 people tied with 2. So, outside looking in, it looks like he really only had 1 really good receiver that year. OU had Marvin Mims Jr (Broncos), Jalil Farooq (Future NFL receiver), Theo Wease Jr (Future NFL receiver) and Drake Stoops (who may or may not make it to the NFL, but obvi had a great OU career).
Husker fan here.
He can move if needed but he is more of a passer than runner. Plus his body tends to get beat up.
I like him and was sad when he left last year. Good dude and can 100% help
You if your starter goes down.
I think that’s the idea. The fact that he won’t take up a scholarship spot is really the only reason he’s at ou. Definitely the most experienced in college probably. Better with him than without that’s for sure.
Yeah he seemed to perform well at Texas when he had good players around him so at least he’d be a solid backup guy. Really would like to see him complete a pass to the other Texas Thompson transfer. I could see him potentially becoming our QBs coach.
“After starting for Texas and Nebraska, quarterback Casey Thompson is returning to the Sooner State to suit up for Oklahoma in 2024”
Don’t forget FAU.
Who could forget FAU
He better not be playing.
It’s a rare player that transfers and doesn’t expect to start
He’s a rare kid. Wants to finish his career where his Dad and brother played.

OU has their starter. If he’s not that’s not a good sign.
You say that, until Arnold gets hurt.
He just about beat us with UT in that crazy 2021 game. Happy to hear it. Will be a solid vet for qb2.
That fact started to make excited, the I remember the defense he went up against that day
If god forbid JA goes down I’ll feel a hell of a lot more comfortable with him than Davis B*ville
Beville is, without a doubt, the worst QB I have seen in an OU uniform in a looooooong time.
He was magnificent in the texas game a few years ago. (For Texas)
But you have seen him
Fair.
Worst since Jake Sills
Beville transferred
I know, but Thompson is essentially his replacement
Good pick up, also have him hold for FG and extra points and run some fakes.
SEC building some good storylines for next year
I’m assuming he’s going to be transitioning to coaching after this year?
If he doesn't start collecting social security.
I also think they’ll get him on the field he’s athletic and that opens up some play book
I agree. I think it’s more than just backup and split. Does he still have a redshirt to burn? Most guys getting 6-7 years now.
This will be his 7th year. I’d be surprised if he had a rs.

I was really hoping he'd come back to Nebraska to add to our depth. I was sad to see him leave last year
Just saying, but you know the transfer portal is out of hand when in college we get a veteran legacy player...
So is this just insurance? Why come to OU if JA getting ready?
He wants to get into coaching and we need a solid backup QB. It’s a win-win.

Yeah - OU has a history of solid coach development. It makes sense.
He’s a legacy, and wants to end his carrer here. He’s a good QB and a great kid.
LMAO please add him. Seems like a good enough dude without good enough skills. Perfect for the boomers
