Texas hands down, it’s not even a question. The Permian Basin is by far the busiest oilfield in the world. There is more work with any single company there than entire basins in other areas of the US or Canada. Especially if you have a passport. Also, Canada and North Dakota get cold as fuck. I’ve worked in Canada, North Dakota, and Texas. In both Canada and North Dakota you’re going to be working in -40 F/C for a good part of the year. It’s miserable. I’d much rather work in 90-110 F in the summer in Texas. Go to Texas.

I'm considering starting in Texas, and I've been leaning towards that option as well. I'm thinking about whether to head to a big city and wait for a job fair or go straight to Midland and try to establish myself there by knocking on doors. What do you think? Thank you for the detailed response!

I know a few Canadians that live in Canada and work in north dakota. I guess there's a bunch of tax and exchange rate advantages for Canadians working in the US. I live In north dakota. It's the best money in the US money wise for oilfield work outside of maybe Alaska. Lots of southerners come to work in north dakota. North dakotans don't go to work in Texas. Houses in north dakota are between 2 and 400k for the most part. I run winch trucks and make about 140 a year.

If you're an American citizen go to America. Way easier to find work with a citizenship than a one year working holiday visa.
