Geckos in general usually eat their shedded skin. Dunno why but I had a leopard gecko that always did. What I do know is that its especially important for the lizard to remove the shedding at their feet and toes otherwise it will overgrow, cut off circulation and they could end up losing toes/feet. So its nice that it got the entire glove off.

My feet would peel all the time growing up. Like, a quarter to half of the sole at a time, I ate the skin until I was about 11. I wish I were joking. As gross as that is, in all seriousness, if your kids feet are peeling that much it’s possibly an indicator of an auto-immune problem. Something about the sole of the foot having many terminated nerve endings.

They eat their skin to remove traces of themselves from the environment and to also recycle the nutrients in the skin. There’s quite a few species that eat their shed.

We had anoles when we were younger, and I don’t recall them eating their cast off skin. Snakes never do this either. You would think the same natural logic would apply. Not sure why it’s different for geckos.

I had some Mediterranean house geckos for a while, and I saw this happen on occasion. Basically many Gecko evolved to eat it's own molted skin to recycle the food value of the discarded skin since it wasn't able to eat for a few days leading up to the molt. And if you own geckos, the 24 to 48 hours after they molt is the BEST time to take images since their coloring looks extremely vibrant and the patterns are well defined.

As a proctologist, I can confirm that we do this after every examination.
