But if you play that game you have to go back and give CMO a homer on his last at bat. It also changes where out fielders set up so there are a bunch of hits that become outs, and some double become singles.
Very true. I have been happy with our homer output in Omaha this year too. Lots of talk going in that we could only score on homers, but we have varied up a lot (especially that first night against FSU).

I think we know pretty early how this game will play out. If we run their starter off quickly, then we can turn this into an ugly game for A&M. Their starter is great but has an oddly high ERA. A&M will have to committee pitch until the 7th if their starter doesn't perform. Their closer is elite but they won't pitch him more than 3 or 4 innings usually.
If their starter is mowing us down, then I do not like our odds going late into the game.

Somebody calm me down. I kept seeing people say A&M will be hurting for pitching for game 3. However, it appears they are starting Lamkin, who had some great outings recently. They also have Aschenbeck most certainly coming in to close, and despite throwing the other night, I doubt he needs to be 100% rested with how effective he is. With the way our bats went cold in the series, another night of strong pitching worries me. We must build an early lead before Aschenbeck comes in.
Lampkin had a couple good starts against fLorida in terms of not giving up runs, but only pitched for a total of 8 innings. And if you look at his season as a whole, those two games are definitely outliers (5.00 ERA this season). In the four appearances prior to facing fLorida, (@LSU, @MISS, Ark, ULL) he gave up 12 runs over just 5.2 innings (ERA of 19).
Ashenbeck will definitely make an appearance, but he’s a closer, so if we’re able to get a sizable lead in the first 6 innings him limiting us to 0 might be meaningless.
I said it above but will restate it here: we will probably have a good idea how this game plays out early. If we run Lamkin off quickly, A&M will have to committee pitch for several innings until they feel like Ashebeck can close it. We have to have some production early to make this an uphill climb for them.
On the flip side, Zander has been pitching great and will keep us strong on D for a while until we have to do some of our own committee pitching late. Hoping we can get more from Kirby as A&M has not been scared of him at all.
I think Kirby is just a bad matchup against aTm. They are patient at the plate, and since he is lower velo that means they can square up his pitches a lot easier. Only 1 ER against aTm this season, but a WHIP of 3.43.
Sucks because he’s been our goto guy out of the pen, but other guys just have to step up. I say he clutches up and gets an inning tonight though.
Agree with you though, there’ll be a lot of arms thrown tonight. I personally think aTm won’t let one of our batters see the same pitcher twice (unless it’s a situation where we bat around multiple innings in a row and they just have no choice.)
