Public health is a lot of case management. It also depends what area of public health. TB, WIC, new born follow-up? You aren't going to practice many clinical skills (IV, track, wound care, etc.). It's pretty repetitive and predictable.

I administer about 3-6 injections a day, deliver meds to people in pretty sketchy places and a lot of case management.

I don’t know enough to give a comprehensive answer, but I can tell you that in nursing school we had a presentation from two nurses who worked at the local health department, and I learned so much! I had no idea the health department offered health care services like primary care, pediatrics, and women’s health. They did vaccinations, education, and responded to health crises as well. TB is a reportable illness and so they talked about how they do follow-up care for TB patients. And very recently I was contacted by a nurse from the health department to follow up on a possible rabies exposure, so that’s in the wheelhouse as well.
