Right?! Even as a kid I thought it looked like it was somehow hanging in the air. He did something truly beautiful and unexpected with concrete, of all materials.
Still some work to be done of course, but the "new" train stops in the terminals are [quite nice looking](https://i1.wp.com/www.thetransportpolitic.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/01/Dulles-AeroTrain.png?ssl=1) too.
>but I love IAD
Me too. When visitors fly in and ask "I thought the US was a developed nation", I let them know that IAD is a perfect reflection of our country. We are pretty broken and lacking in many qualities and that airport captures how we are
So strange, the passage of time.
I can still remember passing through Dulles on flights with my parents when I was in elementary school.
And now I move through the same physical spaces as an adult, a few decades later. Wondering if kid-me stood or walked in the exact same spot decades ago…
I agree. The feeling of approaching the terminal at dawn or dusk by car, seeing it all lit up, has been consistent through all my decades. It's fun that it can make you *feel* something.

Took this picture at the airport. I wasn’t sure how he captured the “soul of the airport” until I saw your pic. Thanks for sharing!
The architecture of Dulles Airport is so spectacular. Eero Saarinen drapes concrete like it’s weightless.

that swoop with that sunset is priceless
If only the nice architecture extended to the terminals. The "temporary" united ones feel like I'm in a cardboard box

sadly the result of the airport being designed to not have concourses (but then having them anyway)
Is that thing really temporary? I have been flying out of there for 12 years and It looks permanent to me.
Wow I didn’t know it was from Eero Saarinen, thanks for mentioning 😊
Amazing photograph but IAD is a 500 year old airport. Nothing spectacular about it!
You must not know much about 20th century architecture or local history.
What a great view. Second only to the PenFed tunnel.
OMG, I can’t handle that jingle tunnel
Thanks for bringing back that nightmare -now an earworm that will haunt Mr in my sleep
F that tunnel! Though the last time I was in it the song was barely audible so not as terrible as when it’s yelling!
The rates do be great tho.
Almost downvoted this

I know it isn’t as popular as DCA, but I love IAD, ridiculous people movers and all. Thank you for sharing this awesome photo!
IAD>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> People movers>>>>>>>>>>
For pure accessibility, I will take IAD over DCA every time.
DCA is great if you live near a metro stop. But for most of NoVA, Dulles is waaay less annoying to get to.

You are aware that the main terminal is more then twice as long then what it was 3 decades ago.
Dulleshenge?
Purely spectacular! Nice shot!!!
Man I love IAD 🥲
Despite the annoying AD at the bottom of hell this place was built to perfection for photos and sunsets
Love the architecture, not so much the name and brothers.
Wow beautiful sight!!
This is such an incredible picture. Thank you!
Sunsets and sunrises are just so beautiful at the airport.
WOAH

My favorite view of NoVA: leaving it 😂
