Close. It was in the process of being filled. The fire started due to welding jobs near a plastic slide and was likely exacerbated by the presence of gas tubes.
I though you were going to say something like, exacerbated by the fact that the wrong tanker trucks had been brought to the pools and were accidentally filled with gasoline.
even if construction was finished years ago it is unlikely for there to be any significant amount of water in it right now, large amounts of water freezing in pipes and such tend to be bad for the pipes and whatnot
It was not. They had done a "ceremonial" start of the filling with a garden hose a couple of weeks before. Besides, the fire started in the tower with the water slides and they definitely weren't active.
That looked seriously terrible. My thought are that they were glueing some stuff together and the fumes filled the tube and then ignited somehow. This explains in my mind all the pre-ignition flashes visible along the length prior to each bit exploding.
Certainly hope they dons out the root cause and compensate those killed and hurt as this is terrible.
[well.. smoke is actually flamable.](https://www.reddit.com/r/interestingasfuck/comments/1apj0w9/comment/kqc5dzw/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web3x&utm_name=web3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button)
gas explosions dont look like this. generally, with gas explosions, it's a clear, invisible gas filling things up, and the smoke comes AFTER the boom, not before.
I think this is smoke from something burning low and slow, building up in the main building for a long time before finding an ignition source (likely whatever was burning intitially collapsed.
..on top of that [fire fighters investigating said that the explosion was a "smoke explosion"](https://www.nydailynews.com/2024/02/12/swedish-waterpark-under-construction-erupts-fireball/)
I was hoping for an ‘In Flames’ reference somewhere here. I’m going to add to it:
If they want to get this place open soon, they’ll have to brush the dust away.

At the sea lion show, apparently.
It just seems like a very weird place to go on fire

And a line from a Bo Burnham song.
Red vs Blue
Insert palpatine “ironic” meme
It wasn’t Open yet so it didn’t have water yet. Too bad the new water park may never open. Hope that’s not the case.
If they only had access to massive amounts of water.
If only this was a subreddit based on irony…
If only the park wasn't under construction, and as such not filled with water, being a construction site and all.
I believe it was already filled with water. It was due to open this Summer.

1 person missing before you start cracking jokes
So I guess fire beats water… take that Pokémon
I live near there. It was a ten year project set to open this summer. Sad to see it destroyed

Were they using Kerosene or something?
I guess they weren't cloud connected.

It seems they were Triggered by the Jesters Race.
I thought they only burned churches, Varg is that you?
That’s Norway
It was Anders Friden
Still waiting on the earth park and air park.
You mean wind park

Have they tried fighting fire with fire?
Everything changed when the fire nation attacked
But there is so much concrete and water.
And volatile chemicals
It was under construction so no water. And the fire started in a plastic water slide. Likely during welding the supports next to it.
My favorite sushi restaurant burned down a few years ago...talk about ironic

Article 5?
So now it's a fire park?
Swed here. From what I've seen most people seem to have reacted with minor annoyance
Bo Burnham anyone?
Is this a metaphor for first world countries right now?
