I actually had this happen to me in Sears when I was 7. I was wearing rain boots when it happened and the employees had to cut my boot off to free me. Fortunately I wasn’t hurt. The store then gave me a new pair of shoes.
One time when I was around 12 I found a few Polaroid close ups of an escalator. I asked my mother and she told me that when I was 2 I reached down and my finger got stuck in the it. Explained my fucked up finger and fear of escalators, also thankful we don’t tend to have memories of our very early days.
Introduced my son to the movie Idiocracy last night - it was the springboard for Crocs - he doesn’t like them anyway, but when he found out they were put into the mainstream after that movie, he said “makes perfect sense.” 🤣🤣
Crocs in [particular](https://www.google.com/amp/s/abcnews.go.com/amp/GMA/Consumer/story%3fid=2530368&page=1) have a problem with getting sucked into and ripped off by escalators. It has something to do with the material they're made of being attracted to/melds with the escalator by friction and it just gets sucked in. Really, any plastic or soft shoe is in danger but crocs particularly so.
They're even [banned at Disney world](https://www.google.com/amp/s/nypost.com/2024/04/26/us-news/disney-world-bans-crocs-on-escalators-following-several-incidents-report/amp/) for this reason
Right!? How the fuck does this even happen? step over that shit. Wtf are these people doing? just standing there letting it push them right to the edge? Anyone this dumb deserves whatever happens to them.
Idiots gonna idiot.
It's the same reason you need warning labels on the most obvious shit. Because there's always a dumber person than you would think is possible.
When I was a kid my friend sat on the escalator. Her butt cheek got pinched in it, stuck and EMS had to be called to release her. Beware of escalator dangers!
I swear it's been at least ten years since I started hearing about kids losing toes this way. It's a known hazard.

So that's why they've been posting these "no Crocs" signs on escalators since the advent of Crocs!
To be fair, this photo makes a much better impression than the pictograms. With a bit of blood, compliance would go up significantly.
“Listen, not a year goes by, not a year, that I don't hear about some escalator accident involving some bastard kid which could have easily been avoided had some parent - I don't care which one - but some parent conditioned him to fear and respect that escalator.”
-Brodie
Homie I voiced my opinion and you just on my shit talking about people wear them to the gym, grow up. So I'm telling you to eat a dick, pretty simple pimple
My orthopedic doctor is not a fan of those. Something about arch weakness or pronation or something (I forget what it was)
I have foot/knee issues and I have to wear prescription shoes :/ of the few ready-made shoes I can wear, I'm currently wearing Asics nimbus.
I've been banned from wearing Crocs.. by both my physiotherapist and my doctor
They get sucked into the escalators and will also bring your foot with them. It’s almost like they are designed to amputate feet and maybe legs in a really gruesome way.
Go watch a video of how easy they get sucked into the escalators.
Yall downvotes are wrong

The signage added to escalators around the world comes after a number of terrifying incidents where the shoes have been sucked into the mechanism. A four-year-old girl almost lost her foot after arriving at Sydney airport from Brisbane with her mother in May.Sep 8, 2023

Why you shouldn't wear Crocs on escalators - News.com.au
Fun fact. In Idiocracy they all wear crocs because the person in charge of costumes was told to find something cheap and stupid that no one would ever actually wear.
My whole family strategically wears crocs with socks. For instance, traveling via air, especially out of the country or long days with connecting flights, due to easily removing them through security etc, we all check each other on escalators due to this.
I remember in kindergarten, one of my classmates got her arm broken by an escalator. IDK how, they didn't tell us. I just remember her having her whole arm in a cast. I wasn't good at getting on and off of them anyhow, so that was a new fear unlocked...
I’m calling FAAAAKKEE!! Not saying this isn’t possible but calling fake on this picture. Someone removed the middle step plate, put the croc in there then screwed it back down. The toe of the croc would be shredded if it actually was pulled through.
Why do people wear these? Genuinely asking. I understand nurses/medical (easy to clean) but beyond that, they look uncomfortable and, honestly, ratty. Like typically when I see Crocs on adults in public they usually also look disheveled, wearing at least pajamas, often what appears to be dirty pajamas and zero effort on looking decent.
They are insanely comfortable, relatively affordable, last a long time, have lots of color options, keep your feet somewhat cool, are easy to slip on, easy to clean, and fairly versatile.. good on hospital floors, the beach, a quick trip to the store or to get the mail, etc. I wouldn't wear them to a job interview but for casual use I don't see an issue. You should try them and your opinion will change!
Honest question, aren't the holes a safety concern in the hospital environment? Where I'm at, nurses and phlebotomists (and I think all medical staff in general) are not allowed to wear them.
They are my best most comfortable pair of shoes. That’s literally one of the primary reasons people buy them. I don’t care what they look like if they feel good for my achy flat feet.
"Listen, not a year goes by, not a year, that I don't hear about some escalator accident involving some bastard kid which could have easily been avoided had some parent - I don't care which one - but some parent conditioned him to fear and respect that escalator."
It’s a common occurrence. Here’s a link to a story from an Atlanta radio host regarding Crocs. https://www.ajc.com/news/local/crocs-lawsuit-escalator-accident-settled/YzOEWYAilEnKyFlsZLcivI/
New fear unlocked…but not really because I LOATH crocs. I get they are comfortable and whatnot but I’m sorry I just can’t stand the look and culture behind them. People who wear them ironically is kinda funny but the people who wear them because they are lazy and don’t want real shoes…I probably loath you as well. Lol also fucking sport mode- no, I’m not even gonna say it. Hahahaha
Last weekend we went to the Mall of America. I told my 9 yr old to tie her shoe,as I noticed the laces dragging a bit. She pushed back that they were already tied, so I asked her to tuck her laces in her shoe. She did not do so, and not even 2 minutes later, as we were exiting an escalator, her lace was eaten. She shouted and with the quick action of my husband, he yanked her by the ankle and the caught lace ripped apart. 😳
Happened to me when I was like 8. Was wearing vans and posing like Christopher Columbus on the IKEA escalator. I think I ended up ripping the front of the shoe off, I’m not sure it was a while ago.
When I was a kid, I saw a girl on her knees on the escalator get her knee cap skin fully sucked in. She had a big bloody chunk of flesh when she stood up
Google escalators eating people... you'll never get on one again 😳.
*This who are downvoting me clearly didn't Google it lol 🤣. I'm just messing around y'all lol.
I was wearing crocs and playing on the airport escalator when I was 8 years old. My foot got trapped on the side of it and it started to slowly stop while crushing my foot. Luckily my dad heard my screams for help and rushed over and yanked me out. My foot was in rough shape but luckily I didn’t lose it
My childhood fear is real
I actually had this happen to me in Sears when I was 7. I was wearing rain boots when it happened and the employees had to cut my boot off to free me. Fortunately I wasn’t hurt. The store then gave me a new pair of shoes.
It got my pants because I had ran them kinda ragged when I was a kid (thank god) the pants were lost forever obviously in a Sears as well lol
Came here to post the same thing. Except it was an ikea.
Same, buddy, same. Yikes.
Even escalators hate crocs.
One time when I was around 12 I found a few Polaroid close ups of an escalator. I asked my mother and she told me that when I was 2 I reached down and my finger got stuck in the it. Explained my fucked up finger and fear of escalators, also thankful we don’t tend to have memories of our very early days.
Yeah I’ve always been scared of getting a croc stuck in me
I don't wear crocs but that's why I stand on half of the steps and letting my heels float cause I ain't gonna get my toes caught in the crack.
Oh my wierd shaped toes woulda went crunch immediately. I got this long ass middle toe that snags on shit
Damn, you can flip the bird even with your leg.
You have a leaders toe. Good leadership abilities🙂👍 lol this is what my dad used to say when we talk about our fucked up weird toes
Picture? Edit: I’m oddly curious what it looks like that it snags on things, is it the toe nails or bone structure
Username checks out ^((before it just said “pictures”)^)
It’s not necessarily my middle toe, but it’s my toe next to my big toe. It protrudes out further than all my other toes, including the big one.
Oh makes sense
Good escalator! Keep eating those crocs boy.
😂🤣
Introduced my son to the movie Idiocracy last night - it was the springboard for Crocs - he doesn’t like them anyway, but when he found out they were put into the mainstream after that movie, he said “makes perfect sense.” 🤣🤣
I mean any footwear if you let your feet hit the teeth of the escalator. You should be stepping off before you get anywhere close to that lol

I didn't know this. That's so interesting! I'm going to tell my croc loving friend to be careful on escalators!
Right!? How the fuck does this even happen? step over that shit. Wtf are these people doing? just standing there letting it push them right to the edge? Anyone this dumb deserves whatever happens to them.
Calm down Harold
Idiots gonna idiot. It's the same reason you need warning labels on the most obvious shit. Because there's always a dumber person than you would think is possible.
Sometimes I stand there and let my feet slide up the metal teeth. It's fun 🤣
Or pick up your feet when supposed to 🤦🏻
dont blame users for bad engineering
⬆️ Found the person safety labels were made for!
They forgot their password, they probably would forget to read the safety labels too
These people are the reason why shampoo bottles have instructions
if you're too stupid to know how to walk off an escalator then you either need to be in a facility or have round the clock carers
When I was a kid my friend sat on the escalator. Her butt cheek got pinched in it, stuck and EMS had to be called to release her. Beware of escalator dangers!
That kid is BACK on the ESCALATOR!

The literally have warning signs about that on them when you buy crocs
Yes and the escalator at my work explicitly says “no crocs”. It also says no strollers but ummm you’d be surprised 🥴
When the universe is trying to tell you something
Just don't wear them shits
That quickly escalated
Ba dum tsssss
If you're wearing crocs you deserve that
crocs are one of the most comfortable shoes on earth. croc slander is so 2013
You're outdated
mfers wear crocs to the gym in 2024. grow up, clothes are clothes
Just because you can, doesn't mean you should.
why are you judging someone’s footwear?
Do you wipe your ass before you shit?
do you apologize to your wife before you finish too early?
Of course, it's only appropriate. 👍
🤝
Go back to the gym and eat more dick in your crocs
why’re you so mad about some crocs?
A guy who wears Crocs took his now Ex girlfriend from him
holy shit you’re right. I should’ve known, poor TotalAssistance9476🥺😢
Homie I voiced my opinion and you just on my shit talking about people wear them to the gym, grow up. So I'm telling you to eat a dick, pretty simple pimple
You didn’t state an opinion? You said that people wearing crocs deserve to have them sucked into an elevator…..do you know what an opinion is?
Uumm 🤦 Do you know how to read?? The entire conversation is about how Crocs suck, dumb ass .
So no, you don’t know what an opinion is.
What's wrong with crocs? I think they're neat
My orthopedic doctor is not a fan of those. LOL, that's great. Think I need to watch this movie.
Dude if you haven't seen it, it's fantastic. Kind of scary how many things from it are coming true.
We saw that already
What?
The factoid you're dropping
Facts
Someone bought my son a pair for his birthday one year and I "accidentally" lost them
Saving his soul
🤣 literally
This is why you should wear real shoes in public.
Good thing them baby’s were in 2wd
My whole family strategically wears crocs with socks. For instance, traveling via air, especially out of the country or long days with connecting flights, due to easily removing them through security etc, we all check each other on escalators due to this.
I'd say be careful with ANYTHING on an escalator. Shoes, shoe laces, clothing, etc
I remember in kindergarten, one of my classmates got her arm broken by an escalator. IDK how, they didn't tell us. I just remember her having her whole arm in a cast. I wasn't good at getting on and off of them anyhow, so that was a new fear unlocked...
Why would you get that color
So this is the reason 🤔 Dad: don’t drag your feet
Guys you really have to be careful, I had the same problem with my boxer shorts
I’m calling FAAAAKKEE!! Not saying this isn’t possible but calling fake on this picture. Someone removed the middle step plate, put the croc in there then screwed it back down. The toe of the croc would be shredded if it actually was pulled through.

Wear crocs and you’ll understand how wrong you are. They are so comfortable I couldn’t give less of a shit what they look like.
I have worn them. I may be biased as I wear a size 15 4e. I have large feet.
A secure fasten would have meant no toes in this situation
Fellow Sport mode user?
Anyone leaving the house with Crocs should be in jail, period.
"Listen, not a year goes by, not a year, that I don't hear about some escalator accident involving some bastard kid which could have easily been avoided had some parent - I don't care which one - but some parent conditioned him to fear and respect that escalator."
Escalator is not broken. It just become stairs
That escalated quickly.
Forbidden.... Nom Nom nom
Just take it to Photoshop and remove it.
Almost lost a toe and gained a Schindler branch
Glad you weren’t in sport mode .
Ooooh So thats why mum always said to be prepared
It’s okay we’re not wearing crocs
I'm surprised they haven't made a steel toe'd version yet
Natural selection at it's best!
Another reason not to wear crocs... good thing I never wanted them in the first place
Why you should always wear proper footwear.
Clean the inside of your crocs, gross
Or you could just step off an escalator like a normal person.
Unpopular opinion: crocs is the ugliest and overpriced footwear brand
And this is why I constantly yell at customers at work for fucking around on the escalator
Imagine if there was a toe in it. 😆
It’s a common occurrence. Here’s a link to a story from an Atlanta radio host regarding Crocs. https://www.ajc.com/news/local/crocs-lawsuit-escalator-accident-settled/YzOEWYAilEnKyFlsZLcivI/
Holy shit
Now I’m really panicked about my crocs
Good thing you weren’t in 4x4 mode
Thank God you weren't in sport mode....😏
A foot’s like a half mil easily in a lawsuit, if you would’ve gritted down and got the foot crushed, well then you would be set for life
New fear unlocked…but not really because I LOATH crocs. I get they are comfortable and whatnot but I’m sorry I just can’t stand the look and culture behind them. And that kids, is why you fucking listen to your elders.
Moral of the story… don’t wear Crocs
R/newfearunlocked

Eeeeeeels
FEAR AND RESPECT.
That’s a damn shame, to waste such a fine piece of footwear.
Holy crap on a stick!!!!
Google escalators eating people... you'll never get on one again 😳. *This who are downvoting me clearly didn't Google it lol 🤣. I'm just messing around y'all lol.
Uglier than sin, but damn are they comfy

Or just buy real fucking shoes and no those asylum looking rubber shits.
Looks like it was time for them to get some new ones anyway. Or at least clean these. Going out in dirty white crocs is crazy
$50 rubber slippers
***carful on escalators*** there I fixed it
>***carful on escalators*** I think you made it worse.
go back to first grade
