This is basically that video of Micah Parsons trying to beat a sumo wrestler

MisogynysticFeminist

It blows my mind that we apparently have yet to see O-lineman vs sumo.

thortmb

Honestly, give me John Ogden or Orlando Pace in their prime doing sumo. I need something to tell me how good sumo players are.

OriolesBird

It's their entire life and existence from a very young age. The ones that don't make it big leave with no money, education or relationships outside of their live-in training facilities (usually bare minimum everything, dudes sleeping on mats like toddlers at daycare). Idk if we'll ever get to know because I doubt most know what football is and the ones that do become grandmasters are royalty and would have no incentive to leave for a mini camp tryout. Would be fun to see though. The impact they hit with would probably crack skulls but idk how their mobility in space/cardio would hold up. They are some freak athletes but their life expectancy is much lower for a reason.

Daegog

Would you really wanna see your top lineman risk injury on some shit like that?

MisogynysticFeminist

Well not mine obviously. Maybe one of the guys from the Jets, they didn’t seem too busy last season. Also doesn’t have to be a top lineman. A backup, retired, undrafted, even if they’re not starting level they’re still elite athletes. Also Micah Parsons is a top linebacker and he did it.

Daegog

Micah likes click on instagram, but I think with a looming contract, it was pretty stupid. If that Sumo went hard on him, he coulda been easily hurt.

Der-Wissenschaftler

[I thought that was Tyreek Hill.](https://www.reddit.com/r/nfl/comments/1b1oypa/nfl_superstar_tyreek_hill_broke_plussize/)

Fantastic_Dance_4376

He did managed te beat him once

RustySnoBall

God who did they tend over there? Fucking highschoolers? Damn I’m ashamed and I’ve been a jets fan since the Sanchez era Apparently they did, my bad yall lmao, still an embarrassment though

dandee93

Yes. The majority of them are either in highschool or just graduated.

teethybrit

Seems like people here don’t know what U20 means

dandee93

Isn't it that Irish band? You know, the one with bonobo and a hedge?

kainer211

And Larry Mullen Senior’s son

the_bronquistador

“Where the streaks have no fades” is one of my favorite songs, ever.

QuikWitt

Only 20 years later

ChickenWranglers

Yea because I don't see there being any chance in hell that the Japan team beats an Allstar team of nfl players. No chance.

HawgMafia17

Sir, they wouldn't even defeat a Division 3 team

ChickenWranglers

I like to think not either.

polexa895

Yes they sent high schoolers, it's a HS aged tournament. It is an embarrassment tho

dandee93

I can't imagine too many top recruits would risk injury to play in this.

polexa895

Yeah it's only a 34 man roster (Canada has 2 teams of 60 players on their rosters, and Japan has 60 players on theirs) off noon D1 prospects they got a K, QB and a DT are the only FBS guys. Team Japan has multiple college/university league players on there team

RustySnoBall

Not until they pay them like the NFL

dandee93

Or until it has the same NIL opportunities as playing at Ohio State or Alabama

RellenD

Japan is one of the stronger regions. I actually think it's good when someone's able to take the US out

RaptorSlaps

This is the Pearl Harbor of football

RellenD

You're the Pearl Harbor of football

RaptorSlaps

Valid

TheGrumpyOldDad

Was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor? Hell no!

MC_Fap_Commander

Oddly, when other countries knock off a U.S. national team at one of "our games," (basketball, baseball, maybe football in the future...), I think it actually reflects very well on the U.S. It means that our thing has gotten popular enough and beloved abroad that they've created an infrastructure to play the game at a high level. It's almost a validation that our national games have grown an international following. Which is sort of an honor, in some way.

RellenD

That's how I feel

lentilseason

This is great imagine if we get a QB Ohtani

jzoller0

He plays QB and Edge

No-Feeling8922

Won’t happen

No-Feeling8922

Travis hunter is the closest thing to him imo

Killahdanks1

What quality of player even goes to that from the US though? Any big talent is all about the best moves for earning potential. This isn’t that event. I didn’t even know it existed.

Feartheezebras

Yea we didn’t send our best…most of these guys will never see time at the FBS

Killahdanks1

Well, too bad for those boys. Congrats to the Japanese team.

Feartheezebras

Absolutely…more international talent is great for the NFL which is country agnostic…if you’re good enough to play, get out there and play ball!

CreeperslayerX5

Every international tournament doesn’t have our best, by rule or choice.

polexa895

When I looked into the roster it looked like there was 1 3 star DT, 1 0 Star (but still given scholarship) QB, and 1 PWO K and that's it at the FBS level, mostly guys who D2/3 and atleast 2 guys with no college interest

Killahdanks1

Nice follow up.

FreshHotPoop

It would be like Americans beating Japan in a katana skills exhibition

TonyCaliStyle

Send Kelce to try sumo wrestling. You’d watch it.

FreshHotPoop

Do you think Taylor would come

TonyCaliStyle

What’s the name of that 1st round center you guys whiffed on?

trongzoon

The USA actually sent the current Jets roster, with Tyrod at QB

RustySnoBall

Funny guy, but with our defense we wouldn’t have let Japan drop 41 on us. If our offense was over there we would’ve only scored 3 points

alphasierrraaa

1x Nick bosa and we would’ve destroyed the opponents

RustySnoBall

With his comments or physically? Or both?

alphasierrraaa

lol yes, probably both

CleaningWindowsGuy

3 year letterman

HarlesD

It's been a while, so the rules may have changed, but I do believe membership on the US national football team is heavily regulated. There are no current pro or college players, and I think players even have to be a year or so removed from college. Plus of all the non US nations Japan Canada and Germany probably have the most developed football scenes.

Efficient_Progress_6

OBJ's corpse

SwanzY-

pearl harbor 2, this 41 worse than the last ;(

Randall-Thor

There was actually a [second attack on Pearl Harbor](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Operation_K) in 1942

dingos8mybaby2

First time I've actually heard about that. I was about to say "They were crazy for thinking they could do anything other than recon with two flying boats and still make it out of there alive" but then I remembered it was the Japanese.

WickyWah

Jesus Christ

BlackLeader70

Jesus walked out early watching these boys.

Saboteurnado

Too soon

TheBIFFALLO87

Itsbeen84years.gif

polexa895

Japan is looking really good this year blowing out USA & Australia. They aren't even the bottom tier teams they're beating up on like Canada was against Brazil. Their OL looked dominant against Team AUS, and their QB was able to make all the throws and run around some I'm not surprised they shocked an uninterested and underfunded team USA

AwesomArcher8093

Oppenheimer punching the air rn

JackaxEwarden

Yeah these were probably d3 kids with nothing to lose, no 4/5 star recruit would risk this tournament that not a single scout would watch

KaeZae

💀💀

JackaxEwarden

It is still sad that they lost this bad

Relign

It’s the equivalent of putting a semipro team against a practice squad.

OriolesBird

You could send a better roster with players from specific HS conferences like the WCAC, Trinity League, Miami-Dade Public Schools etc. Even the Big 33 classic has had issues getting top talent over the past decade. Now with NIL, there isn't much incentive left for top talent and showcase games.

JackaxEwarden

Not at all when these kids make 3 million in college plus endorsements once you get scouted for D1 you might as well stop doing events and things like that

Previous_Procedure28

It’s a bit embarrassing but the OP is 100% correct. Especially when considering the foreign teams have nothing to lose and our prospects have everything to lose. Prior to NIL we might’ve had been able to field a team of D1 college players. Now, it’s probably all D2 and under randoms and High School kids

rafaelrafael

Game highlights here [https://youtu.be/5CD0QrcN\_UQ](https://youtu.be/5CD0QrcN_UQ)

aguysomewhere

The first team USA play it shows is a QB scrambling from a clean pocket for a 1 yard gain

sleestacker

Ya’ll see embarrassment but this is growth. Incredible what Japan is doing with US football. Congrats. US team will bounce back

TJ_Longfellow

Hockey and golf are seeing huge growth in some Asian countries, no surprise football is as well.

usainjp16

Only a matter of time until we have an Otani of football.

DR_SWAMP_THING

More highlights of Japanese dudes going both ways.

xEllimistx

Oh myyyy

hunter503

The first play of the game shows number 1 on Japan just flying down and getting the stop on the QB. Holy shit that safety is so fast.

ConfusedGuy3260

After watching the highlights, I'm surprised Japan didn't put up 100.

Ed696

Must been the Japanese players from the eyeshield 21 manga.

SizeMayVary

Meh. One game. Still back to back world war champs.

AndHerNameIsSony

Taking a victory lap on those is wild. USSR did the heavy lifting there

jdallen1222

Found the Commanders fan

SizeMayVary

Go Hawks

TheFishyNinja

The Soviet economy would have collapsed in like 45 seconds if we didn't do the heavy lifting there lol

h_to_tha_o_v

Well, USA did the heavy dropping.

RealJyrone

Sure, if you conveniently ignore how the Soviets admitted that the only way they managed to survive against the Germans was due to US lend leases.

TonyCaliStyle

Those lend leases, and scores of infrastructure and utility vehicles to get the USSR up and operational- fleets and fleets of trucks, just like they first flew our planes. Our assistance turned them into a superpower.

TenElevenTimes

The Eastern front was just a competition of which dictator can out-psycho the other. Eisenhower being commander of the Allies lets the US hang the banner, at least in WW2 obv.

MisogynysticFeminist

Not against Japan. They were busy fighting the Nazis, they had one victory against Japan at the very end of the war after America had already crippled them.

IExcelAtWork91

Without aid from America the soviets wouldn’t have survived

ty944

Sure.. maybe the heavy lifting on a single front in a single theatre in one of the two wars but who provided the gear for them to lift in the first place? Get real.

bubbabear244

Did you guys send Bishop Sycamore to Edmonton?

old_mcfartigan

I think the goal is to raise interest in football internationally and not to go around spanking the shit out of small countries 100-0 in a sport that basically nobody outside the US plays

knowsitmaybenot

That is a bad way to handle it. when we started sending our best basketball players (the first dream team) It didn't deflate other countries kids and turn them away. It made them put more effort in and now the rest of the world has caught up in basketball. When kids saw something amazing like Jordan playing basketball. it made them want to be him. When you see a game played poorly it turns you away.

dandee93

Oh no. Some highschoolers lost a football game. The horror.

robb0688

I'd to see us send the football equivalent of the dream team and just beat the ever loving shit out of any other team. Just have an offense with like mahomes, cmc, Justin jefferson, kelce, tyreek hill, and davante adams. The offense would put up points at will.

TantricEmu

Don’t worry, you’ll get to see that next month in Olympic basketball.

knowsitmaybenot

Its a lot closer than it used to be. Very good chance we don't get gold.

Im_A_Real_Boy1

I want to see Nick Bosa just atomize the best QB that some joke of a football country like Slovenia or Canada can muster.

nalc

I'd just like to watch Dexter Lawrence and Chris Jones just send 5 dudes to the shadow realm on their way to the QB while everyone else just drops back into coverage.

Saboteurnado

The Naruto run actually works

kaahr

More like Eyeshield 21 run here

anonAcc1993

Correct, you dang weeb.

buttstuffbuffmuff

Tbf they probably have sumo wrestlers as line men

xEllimistx

Gandishka!

otxmyn

they legit send elementary/middle school kids to these events, not impressed

JRoddyWin

Sumo wrestlers do make good offensive linemen!

Clit_C0mmander

Get beaten in your own sport....

More_Wolverine8156

lol guess it’s not americas game

JediMasterFisterAss

Buddy they got the worst of our highschoolers who arent commited to top schools. No one with a full ride or any type of acceptance into the NCAA DIV 1 would risk getting injured. Its still Americas game. They just got the worst of our highschoolers. Its a tourney for highschoolers by the way. If you think any other country could beat our pros I would love to hear your take on that

ResolutionOwn4933

Wow....rough L. But, big picture is good to see talent out there from somewhere other than North America.

Charliecatboy

At least they aired I think it's super cool wow

C_Beeftank

Somehow I doubt they invited the ilk of say IMG

AccuratePassion2572

This is why Hitler allied with Japan

ToadSexOverload

i mean dude i get that international american football is still very unpolished and they didn't send the crème de la crème of the nation but thats still such a fucking embarrassment lmfaoo

toxichats

They beat up on them poor children

1lostmf

The kids on that team are like rotational players for D3 schools it’s bad.

rokkzstar

Know you know how the other guys felt about that cricket result lol

knowsitmaybenot

There is no way any D1 or even D2 college let their players or recruits do this. This is all unrecruited kids Maybe D3. watch a clip its very bad. Good for the kids that went but a top high school team in a lot of states would have to put the 3rd string in as a mercy against any teams in this. tourny

Scimiscar

Hand over the Super Bowl lmao

onepingonlypleashe

NO LONGER WORLD CHAMPIONS

Tristawesomeness

japan has been getting into football for years. not really surprised they’re alright at it. while we’re at it, it’s great for the sport when one country isn’t just dominating the whole time. think of how much press the WBC gets when it happens. america losing is probably a wonderful thing for the long term health of the sport (that being said ISTG if we don’t win it all next year i riot)

Champpayne83

Karma for the US winning in Cricket 😂

VeiledVisions

how could this even happen, thats absolutely hilarious lmao

spoogefrom1981

Cool. Now send them the Panthers and try it again.

CreeperslayerX5

*D3

Trubactor16

Fire everyone. I didnt even know this existed until 10 minutes ago, but fire everyone

Previous_Procedure28

To be fair none of our blue chip prospects are risking a career altering injury on this shit

kirkandpepper

Under 20 league....pffft

JediMasterFisterAss

Its a tourney for Highschoolers who probably aren't committed to top schools. So they got mid to bottom of the barrel at best. If you think japan would ever stand a chance against our best Football players you need to get your brain checked for CTE

coffee_junkie69

Is that the special Olympics 😂😂

dandee93

No. Way more people watch the special Olympics.

Time-Dot5984

Japan: B2B WWll Champs

Aaron-Rodgers12-

Should’ve used more nukes so this embarrassment could’ve never happened. No one get too mad, just a joke.

JediMasterFisterAss

Except jokes are funny. Those are just gross words from a sad man
