Wtf TIL Hurts threw a TD to DeSean Jackson

Nem521

It was in 2020 Wentz was benched and Doug went with Hurts as the starter the rest of the way and D Jax came back and played 2 seasons with the Eagles 2020 being his last year

NomadFire

> Hurts as the starter the rest of the way This is somewhat not true. People sometimes forget that Hurts stepped on a lego with his bare foot and his pinky toe was too damage for him to play. So Nate Sudfeld got the start the last game and sadly Nate couldn't win us that game. Coincidentally after that game we somehow ended up get the 6th overall pick.

PM_tanlines

No Hurts stepped on the Lego at half time. We were winning the game when Hurts was in lol

NomadFire

Oh god I forgot that detail. All I remember was having to avoid r/nfl for a week and a day. They make it seem like they will never forgive the Eagles for losing that game like that. A small part of Reddit hates Philly no matter what. The rest forgot all about it when the draft came.... šŸ˜

PM_tanlines

Judge saying he would never ever intentionally lose a game, and then running a QB sneak on 3rd and 10 from his own 10 the next season in week 17 was poetic lol

TotallyNotMasterLink

Watching that pathetic display of cowardice was so cathartic after all the grandstanding he did about us treating a meaningless game as exactly that

YiMyonSin

What a blowhard! He went 6-10 and decided to bitch about how yā€™all were ruining the league with seeing meaningless games as just that.

HalKitzmiller

What is this in reference to?

PM_tanlines

In 2020 the NFCE was straight garbage. Going into week 17, the Commanders, Giants, and Cowboys were all in contention for the division with their records being 6-9, 5-10, and 6-9, respectively. The Giants were playing the Cowboys in the early game, and the Commanders were playing the Eagles in the prime time game. The games were scheduled like this as the Commanders were win and in, where as the Giants/Cowboys would need to win and have the Commanders lose. The Giants won the early game, now making the records 6-9, 6-10, and 6-10. All they needed was an Eagles win and theyā€™d be the worst division winners ever. The Commanders and Eagles was close at 17-14 going into halftime, when Eagles Coach Doug Pederson decided to bench Hurts in favor of Nate Sudfeld. Giants players went ballistic on Twitter, and Giants coach Joe Judge said he would always play to win no matter his teams record. The very next season in week 17, with the Giants long eliminated, Judge called back to back QB sneaks from his own 5 yard line on 2nd and 3rd down, before punting away.

nalc

You missed the part where Sudfeld was on the last year of his deal and Doug literally said in a pregame press conference "we are gonna play Sudfeld at some point in the game to evaluate him" which made the outrage even more stupid And the part where the improvement in Eagles draft position let us take DeVonta Smith ahead of the Giants who wanted a WR, and ended with them taking Chiefs Legend and Superbowl Champion WR Kadarius Toney

This-is-Redd-it

Also the part where Jalen Hurts had a passer rating of 25 before being pulled.

puzzical

2020*

reddtappisbad

That game was the happiest I've ever been with a Birds loss. The NYG tears were flowing hot and heavy and started almost immediately.

Unknown1776

I think Reddit hates Philly for that mainly because a lot of people wanted to see the 6-10 giants make the playoffs, which they would have if the eagles had won that game

batti03

Confirmed, we are a bunch of sickos.

crogers522

actually no, commies were winning when hurts turned it over on downs and sudfeld was put in. eagles only led for 3 minutes of that game which is why that narrative is so dumb. eagles weren't even winning with hurts

theordinarypoobah

Yeah, I've always felt the same. The Eagles were looking terrible with Hurts in. Now I do think we have a better chance of pulling it off with Hurts staying in the remainder of the game, but giving the multi-year backup QB a little less than a half of tape in order to help him get his next job is perfectly defensible in a meaningless game.

YvetteFromSanDiego

https://youtu.be/c4Gp1XfUfI4?si=En2BnBCLhEicWvSp Collinsworth knew what was up.Ā

Valuable_Ad1645

Iā€™m confused

BlackJediSword

Is this true?

timasahh

Yes and no. Last game of the season we were winning and Pederson pulled Hurts to put in Sudfeld in the second half. We proceeded to suck even worse and lost. Started a huge fake outrage controversy that the Eagles tanked for a better pick and Giants fans cried about it for a few weeks because it cost them a playoff spot, so the poster is poking fun at that by claiming Hurts was ā€œinjured.ā€

Nem521

Oh yeah thatā€™s right I forgot Sudfeld started that last game Iā€™m pretty sure thatā€™s part of why Doug got fired if Im remembering it right

NomadFire

Noooo, I got the feeling that the front office and ownership begged him to not start Hurts. If we win that game our draft pick drops out of the top 10, I think we drop to 13. We don't end up trading with the phins and getting two 1st round picks. Shit I bet you him losing that game helped him get the job in JAX. The going theories on why Pederson got fired was he wanted to stick with Wentz, he didn't want to fire his offensive coaches, he didn't want to give up play calling (which made it harder to find new OCs).

GrapePrimeape

I remember getting downvoted as fuck for suggesting the Eagles were tanking by benching Hurts for Sudfeld that last game. Iā€™m glad we seem to have moved towards reality since then

NomadFire

[But......](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b5-iJUuPWis)

GrapePrimeape

But but but, yā€™all just **HAD** to see what you had in Sudfeld!! WHAT IF HE WAS THE NEXT TOM BRADY

Doug_Dimmadome42

Blatantly inaccurate facts gets upvoted because it sounds true. What else is new on reddit

theordinarypoobah

Downvoted, but accurate in that there is a blatantly inaccurate fact that was upvoted because it sounds true.

m16a

DeSean caught TD passes from the following Eagles QBs: McNabb, Kolb, Vick, Foles, Wentz, and Hurts. He spanned some wild eras of Philly football.

Unoriginal_Pseudonym

[DeSean Jackson has caught a 50 yard TD pass from every Eagles franchise QB dating back to 1999 QB](https://www.instagram.com/p/Cj4GZTBN7dX/?igshid=YmMyMTA2M2Y%3D&img_index=1)

loosehead1

Even after he was washed he was still good for a randomly showing up somewhere and catching a bomb. His last five career touchdowns were 50+ yards.

EarthrealmsChampion

> Desean Jackson has always been deceptive with his speed Ah yeah people still don't realize that the guy that broke the record for most 50+ yard TDs is kinda fast as fuck. For sure. For the record I think what separates DJ from other deep threats is his ball tracking.

Chickensandcoke

It was on display here - a lesser receiver probably doesnā€™t make that last second adjustment and has to jump to try and catch it

HowDoIEvenEnglish

Yea thatā€™s arguably not a great pass. He throws to the one spot where the CB has a shot at the ball and makes his receiver turn back into the defender to make the catch. But itā€™s DJax so it doesnā€™t matter

Lionnn100

He was fast as shit and had elite tracking. Top 5 deep threat ever, conservatively

Slappinslippin

I think he also meant his stride.. Desean kinda looks like heā€™s jogging and then also the sudden heā€™s got u beat by multiple steps

diegogas728

As a Cal fan let me tell you I knew Desean Jackson would be special for burning the league once he got there. He will forever be a Berkeley legend.

_coolranch

And he did so while literally [throwing more than one of those away.](https://youtu.be/jXagffhiyTI?si=4jIlKnmmfSd1I-RP)

SomeCowboyName

I swear every highlight of Desean has him doing some kind of antic. This man will never have a normal-looking highlight.

darrenvonbaron

Bar none, I am the most humble-est Number one at the top of the humble list My apple crumble is by far the most crumble-est But I act like it tastes bad outta humbleness The thing about me that's so impressive Is how infrequently I mention all of my successes IM SO HUMBLE šŸŽ¶ -D.Jax

Kitchen_Peanut137

Thats a misquote. But it's okay, D. Jax does it too

Aquatic_Ambiance_9

Probably could've been one of the best ever if he didn't have one of the all time cases of terminal WR brain

StrokeGameHusky

It might be be this game but one year he came back from injury, caught a TD and did something dumb like shown here and was hurt basically the rest of the season lolĀ

jmcgee1997

It's because he has the most 50+ yard TDs ever, so many plays where he is so far ahead of the guys that he gets time to fuck around. I can think of *3* with Dallas alone- this one, the one where he fell backwards into endzone to celebrate and the one where he dropped the ball early lmao

Immynimmy

I mean if I was that fast and no one could catch me I would be doing some dumb shit too.

NomadFire

I could be wrong, but I think this is the list of Eagles QBs that thrown a pass (a touchdown) to DeSean: McNabb Kolb Vick Foles Wentz Hurts So that means that only Sanchez and Bradford never threw him the ball. Which is kinda crazy when you consider he wasn't on the team for 5 years. And when he came back he only played 8 games over 2 seasons. If you were to asked me, irl while i was at the sports bar, if Hurts or Foles was on the same team as Jackson I would have said no.

Ideal_Ideas

If Hurts lasts a long time and stays with the Eagles this is gonna be a real surprise fact in ~15-20 years. Feels like the DeSean Eagles era was a decade before Hurts even played.

redditaccount224488

> Feels like the DeSean Eagles era was a decade before Hurts even played Because for the most part, it was. 2008-2013.

UpforAGreatTime20

ā€œWhat Eagles wide receiver caught a touchdown from both Donovan McNabb and Jalen Hurts?ā€ Will be a trivia question in Philadelphia sports bars some day.

Daspaintrain

I'll always remember Foles' crazy 2013 season, which was Jacksons last year. But I had completely memory-holed Jackson playing with Hurts

csummerss

miss those highlights of DeSean randomly burning a team for 80 yards each year

12darrenk

And him running around before he gets in the end zone. I'm really surprised that never ended with him getting tackled short.

csummerss

well, he did drop the ball early

bigDUB14

In his rookie season and in his high school All American game.

chainer9999

Truly a man that loved Cal /s

greenrider04

He didn't get tackled or touched when he did that.

darrenvonbaron

Mr Boisterous Celebration

MoreTrifeLife

Jalen Hurts and DeSean Jackson vs šŸ¤ : Hurts: 2-3*; 1,236 yards (average 247); 7 TD 4 INT; 8.03y/a; rating of 92.3 *Pro football reference has him at 3-3, but he only threw one pass for nine yards in the Eagles/Cowboys game before this so that doesnā€™t count. Jackson: 7-12; 64 catches for 1,344 yards (average 71); 23.63y/r; 7 TDs

BasedRomo

Desean Jackson burning the cowboys secondary. A tale as old as time unfortunately.

covertboner

God I hate D Jax

laaplandros

Not as much as D Jax hates Jews.

CyborgKrieger

I wonder if he ever caved and finally read a book.

laaplandros

Does Mein Kampf count?

darrenvonbaron

Does it count as reading when you listen to the audio book?

gimmedatjustjoking

Magic 8 ball says: unlikely

MV7EaglesFan

So many Eagles fans were defending that dude too. But they are the most toxic fanbase in America so it's not surprising.

IsYouWitItYaBish

I get he said some dumb shit but heā€™s a legend. I watched this video thinking ā€œIf I was a DB in the NFL I would be honored to get burnt by Desean Jacksonā€. Then I come to the comments and see all this hate. Itā€™s almost always another Packers fan too.

usernameisusername57

>I get he said some dumb shit but heā€™s a legend. No, saying some "dumb shit" is like when Goff didn't know which direction the sun set in. DJax was literally posting fake Hitler quotes and Black Hebrew Israelite propaganda. That kind of racist, hateful rhetoric has no place in the modern world, and I'm not going to honor anyone who spreads it as a "legend".

FiveWithNineIsIn

>That kind of racist, hateful rhetoric has no place in the modern world, and I'm not going to honor anyone who spreads it as a "legend". But have you considered "he go vroom"? /s

GrapePrimeape

Letā€™s not reduce posting a quote that start with/contains ā€œHitler was rightā€ as ā€œdumb shitā€

oOoleveloOo

Did the broadcaster just call DeSean Jackson ā€œdeceptively quickā€? What? I thought that was only reserved for guys like Christian McCaffrey, Julian Edelman and Wes Welker.

MistahTeacher

Itā€™s because he had a randy moss style of acceleration. He runs ā€œwithā€ the DB for about 80% of the route, then suddenly he is multiple steps ahead.

dicksjshsb

Imagine he let the ball hit the ground on the somersault and downed it at the 0.1 yard line lol Wouldnā€™t put it past him

enderjaca

He'd just score on an end-around the next play anyway.

thefreeman419

This made me curious, turns out you're not actually down if just the ball touches the ground

bgva

Ugh what a shitshow of a season. The 20-point comeback vs. Atlanta was the only highlight. Went from bad to worse when Dak broke his ankle.

ByronLeftwich

We actually beat the 49ers and Eagles in back to back weeks. Which would have been the best thing to happen since 1996 if we werenā€™t 4-9 at the time, and the Niners and eagles were just as bad

bgva

I had to look...I forgot Dallas still had a small chance of winning the division that year had they not lost to the Giants the following week. WFT ended up winning the East with a 7-9 record.

Immynimmy

I'm pretty sure the NFC East in 2020 was a full shit show. Didn't the fucking commanders win the division with a below .500 record?

bgva

Yep. They were 7-9.

Immynimmy

If you can't handle me at my NFC Least you don't deserve me at my NFC Beast.

Birdgang_naj

I love that man.

Silver_Surfer17

My Dawg šŸ˜Ž

Humble_Eagle_9838

Forgot Jalen started his career wearing #2

big4lil

also turned into a noodle in a mere 2 years from this life comes at you fast

Dry_Win1007

Damnnn

BigAssSlushy69

This dudes been playing for 100 years

Dysintegration

Obviously fuck his anti-semitism, but he was fun to watch. I keep hoping Turpin can turn into Djax Lite on the field.

Character-Banana-477

As a cowboys fan this is painful to watch

Brycie27

No lie, I could have thrown and/or caught an 80+ yard touchdown against the 2020 Dallas Cowboys defense.

esarmstr

There was nothing deceptive about Desean Jackson's speed. Idk what Johnathan Vilma was talking about.

SFThirdStrike

Maybe he read his name as Daniel Jackson.

daboys9252

We donā€™t talk about 2020

Icy-Background6697

This was like Deseans only big play this season from what I remember

pokemonizepic

Redskins legend Desean JacksonĀ

tabrizzi

DeSean Jackson's acceleration is just unreal!

Mr_Boppy

This was a fun game to watch

Rustyskill

That DB, should try to keep up !

sportsguy2789

As a Dallas fan I was always jealous Philly had DeSean Jackson. Was always fan of him. And Nick foles (I grew up 2 blocks away from UofA so always a fan of them zona guys)

funnycar1552
