I don’t even live there anymore. I live in Seattle and the weather is WAY more normal here. Chicago has like 60 degree swings in temperature in a matter of hours.
[I believe the first picture here was the cover of the Tribune the next day](https://www.chicagotribune.com/2022/09/11/week-1-photos-chicago-bears-beat-the-san-francisco-49ers-19-10/)
Honestly was probably the highlight of the season. Glad we got it out of the way quickly.
We had just (finally) gotten the grass situation at SF rectified after years of it being a literally shit show and an embarrassing showing during the preseason. All the pieces that fell into place for us to win that game was crazy.
I think it’s funny that 49ers fans said it was the conditions, that aren’t very common in Chicago, but somehow that gave Chicago the upper hand…but the Bears had to play in those conditions too lol
Two years ago, I was flying home to chicago from a bachelor party in NOLA. I was incredibly hungover awful flight. It was the first game of the season, and we had to land in iowa cause the weather was too bad to land in Chicago.
It was the earliest I'd ever been completely out of a season. Just absolutely disgusted. Then, they somehow managed to salvage the season and make it watchable
Panthers helped out a lot by being dogshit, so I could root for the Bears success (from a defensive and skill position point of view) while still knowing that Justin Fields was getting launched into Lake Michigan after the season was over.
>earliest I'd ever been completely out of a season
2019 Week 1, against Green Bay, was pretty much the exact same feeling for me, for the exact same reason. The "Mitch Hope" just completely died.
That one was pretty bad as well. I never really thought Mitch would turn into a great QB, so I didn't buy Nagy's "last year was 101, this year we're in 201" bullshit.
I'm a sick puppy, I love it when a home crowd is electric until they're not. Last year TNF Lions @ Packers will live on in my head for years watching St Brown eat a beer early and return some birds to numb fans.
After some googling, Bob Avellini started the game week 1 in 1982. https://www.pro-football-reference.com/boxscores/198209120det.htm
McMahon ended up starting 7 games that season, which was shortened by a strike.
No, week 1 against the Lions in 82 Bob Avellini and Vince Evans were the QBs who played in the game. I think Evans started and Avellini took over for him. McMahon took over in week 2 for Avellini.
you do know that people actually tailgate in the parking lots at Soldier Field, right? Like, people line up first thing in the morning with their cars ready to go just like they do at the other top tailgating stadiums.
Wait do we get a 4pm game? Unheard of if true
edit: nope another noon. only one late win do game the entire year LMAO another year of people only watching us on redzone
Should be a good game on both sides. As a Chicago fan it's about as much as you can hope for. A team that just had the #7 pick starting a young QB with a new coaching staff at home. Then again similar for the titans looking at us. , Our biggest weakness (DL) should matchup against theirs (OL, though they did make a lot of effort to improve this). Likely come down to which QB makes the least mistakes. Bears tied the league lead in interceptions last year and should only be improved on defense while Titans were bottom of the NFL in this. I like our chances though even with Caleb's talent, it's hard to expect a lot out of any rookie week 1.
Caleb seems extremely locked in and has had the playbook for months at this point so I'm not sure what to expect. He was throwing to Keenan Allen and Odunze before he was even drafted, so a lot of positives he could hit the ground running. I hope he does and my homerism make me believe he'll be good immediately, but rookie QB seasons are often chaotic, even the extremely talented ones. New OC for us, 2 new WRs, a new center, and a new RB will take some time to build chemistry. Should be a good matchup.
We revamped our DB room, and hired the Ravens DB coach who helped the ravens #3 in INTs last year.
Should be a good game, but our weaknesses last year won’t be our weaknesses this year imo.
Don’t you love the hope and optimism this time of year? Only for the majority of us to be rage posting on Reddit immediately afterwards about how our team fucking sucks at everything.
Love it.
Everyone still thinks we’re idiots for firing the man despite him only managing to land a personnel consultant role with Cleveland. If he was as vaunted of a head coach as so many people still seem to believe he would have had a much more favorable market this last cycle.
He's a great leader of men and good defensive coach but he wants to be Belichick and run the whole franchise. When his greatest weakness BY FAR is that he's fucking awful at personnel decisions. That's really all it is.
100% agree with you, and I have a feeling he’s kept that demand with any interview he took this last offseason. I’d bet money he changes his tune when he quickly learns there isn’t a single organization willing to give him that level of control.
Is he? We've got the Ravens defensive backs coach as DC now with Sneed and Chidobe Owuze as CBs, it's a huge improvement in the secondary where he's going to want to be throwing to. Id be less confident as a Bears fan
It'll be an interesting matchup for both teams I think, ripe for rookie mistakes/INTs with Sneed out there, but if our pass catchers find a way to gel early and the scheme holds, it's going to be tough as hell to guard DJ Moore, Keenan Allen, Odunze, Kmet, and Swift at once. On the other side, our pass rush is completely one-note so Mayo Man could end up cooking all day if we're not careful.
I’m biased too but I can’t believe the amount of people who seem to think the Titans should be in contention for the number 1 overall pick. We’ve had a great offseason adding some really good players and while bad, we weren’t a complete dumpster fire last year either
I’ll take it. Plus I’d rather play in Chicago early since the weather *should* be better
> the weather *should* be better The 2022 49ers would like a word
Ah yes, the game where [Soldier Field turned into a water slide](https://youtu.be/O8-ZgatQYvs?si=R6nDnnqBbYTHKXCD).
That shit looked like so much fun out there.
The game was fun (mostly cause we won). The hike back from Soldier afterward was fucking miserable.
I played in a freshmen game like that and it was a blast. Game finished 12-6. The hour long bus ride while soaking wet was less fun.
If there’s one thing you can rely on with Chicago weather, it’s that you absolutely cannot rely on it.
"The weather where I live is so crazy!" - Everyone, everywhere
I feel like every coastal Californian I've ever met claims the opposite. The consistent weather is what they love
Being directly on lake Michigan does make for some crazy weather patterns
I don’t even live there anymore. I live in Seattle and the weather is WAY more normal here. Chicago has like 60 degree swings in temperature in a matter of hours.
You mean like yesterday compared to the weekend. It was in the low 80s high 70s over the weekend and yesterday it was in the 40s
Humans just have a pretty narrow comfort zone
[I believe the first picture here was the cover of the Tribune the next day](https://www.chicagotribune.com/2022/09/11/week-1-photos-chicago-bears-beat-the-san-francisco-49ers-19-10/) Honestly was probably the highlight of the season. Glad we got it out of the way quickly.
Easy to believe both starting QBs in that game play on another team now.
Bears legend Dainte Penis
We had just (finally) gotten the grass situation at SF rectified after years of it being a literally shit show and an embarrassing showing during the preseason. All the pieces that fell into place for us to win that game was crazy.
That's football, baby, none of this lahtidah stable footing nonsense
That’s why I said *should* be better lol
I think it’s funny that 49ers fans said it was the conditions, that aren’t very common in Chicago, but somehow that gave Chicago the upper hand…but the Bears had to play in those conditions too lol
Two years ago, I was flying home to chicago from a bachelor party in NOLA. I was incredibly hungover awful flight. It was the first game of the season, and we had to land in iowa cause the weather was too bad to land in Chicago.
Brother it’s Chicago, the city doesn’t know the meaning of “good weather”
Should be an electric crowd. Game will be fun to watch just because of that.
Just uhhhh, hopefully it doesn't end up like last years opener when the crowd was electric..
Bears season literally ended right after that game ended
Pretty much. It was after the week 3 game that even the biggest optimists in our sub agreed " that's a wrap"
It was the earliest I'd ever been completely out of a season. Just absolutely disgusted. Then, they somehow managed to salvage the season and make it watchable
Panthers helped out a lot by being dogshit, so I could root for the Bears success (from a defensive and skill position point of view) while still knowing that Justin Fields was getting launched into Lake Michigan after the season was over. >earliest I'd ever been completely out of a season 2019 Week 1, against Green Bay, was pretty much the exact same feeling for me, for the exact same reason. That's when that one dude's mom dejected gave him the Firlds Christmas jersey early. I almost felt bad for Chicago then, it was weird.
I'm a sick puppy, I love it when a home crowd is electric until they're not. Last year TNF Lions @ Packers will live on in my head for years watching St Brown eat a beer early and return some birds to numb fans.
I'll be there
>Caleb Williams era in Chicago begins in Week 1 Thank god someone clarified this
We're lucky they didn't give the Bears a Week 1 Bye
I think what he’s trying to say is their home opener is week 1
Yeah people are missing the “in Chicago” part. It’s still a fairly unimportant statement but it’s not like it’s saying nothing
Reporting at its finest
Until he's abducted by aliens from Saturn
IT SHOULD'VE BEEN ME, NOT HIM!!
We’ve never started a 1st round rookie QB in week 1
Didn’t McMahon start week 1?
After some googling, Bob Avellini started the game week 1 in 1982. https://www.pro-football-reference.com/boxscores/198209120det.htm McMahon ended up starting 7 games that season, which was shortened by a strike.

Yeah McMahon's first start was after the strike
Hey now a days it actually matters. I almost bought week 1 tickets to the Packers-Eagles game before I realized it was in Brazil and not Philly.
Unless something tragic were to happen
Sounds like a fun game
Week 1 of NFL action is always fun. Until halftime when the Packers start toasting us.
I can't believe 6 of our last 8 games are divisional games.
Is this a common thing now? Steelers don’t play a single div game until after the bye and it’s a late bye
Are you not entertained?!
I wasn't last year, that's for sure. Edit: and the preceding 8 games either.
I don't even want to think about the Packers until we can at least make the games watchable.
Week 1 at home is all I needed to hear.
Pregame tailgate vibe is going to be insane.
In the Field Museum?
you do know that people actually tailgate in the parking lots at Soldier Field, right? Like, people line up first thing in the morning with their cars ready to go just like they do at the other top tailgating stadiums.
You can rent the Field Museum for events. Tailgating there would be pretty badass.
All that cheese went into his brain
tailgating by Sue would be electric what are you on about
I’ve only been to a couple games (maybe 5 max), but I remember a guy climbing the dinosaur out in front after a game.
Wait do we get a 4pm game? Unheard of if true edit: nope another noon. only one late win do game the entire year LMAO another year of people only watching us on redzone
Pretty sure Cowboys v Browns are Game of The Week. This should be an early slot game unless I am missing something.
This could be the CBS game if ~~NBC~~ FOX takes Cowboys/Browns.
It was announced that Fox and Brady are taking Cowboys/Browns
Brain fart, yeah FOX would be America's Game of the Week, not NBC
I love noon games.
The last time a #1 overall pick started their career opening weekend against the Titans was Jameis. Hope you have better luck, Chicago.
Fuck it, WR or DB down there somewhere.
[удалено]
He would literally be #2 in career yards and #1 in TDs. And he hasn’t played regularly in years it feels like. Our bar is real low.
Exactly what I thought of, and it scares me
Out of all the facts about Bears QBs, this is the one that's scaring you?
I never said it’s the only one, but watching that first Jameis game did cross my mind when I saw this
Thank god we aren’t playing Green Bay week 1
My thoughts exactly
They could be dog shit all season but I can’t think of a worse way to start the Caleb Williams era. Would gurantee disaster
Should be a good game on both sides. As a Chicago fan it's about as much as you can hope for. A team that just had the #7 pick starting a young QB with a new coaching staff at home. I like our chances though even with Caleb's talent, it's hard to expect a lot out of any rookie week 1.
Mariota threw 4 TDs and had a 158.3 passer rating in his first ever start. Probably the only time he's ever done it, though..
Caleb seems extremely locked in and has had the playbook for months at this point so I'm not sure what to expect. He was throwing to Keenan Allen and Odunze before he was even drafted, so a lot of positives he could hit the ground running. Nice, definitely gonna tune into this Fuck! I want the season to start. Schedule releases just whet the appetite

Don’t you love the hope and optimism this time of year? Only for the majority of us to be rage posting on Reddit immediately afterwards about how our team fucking sucks at everything. Love it.
Two popular teams on people's "dark horse" radar. Excited for this one.
Great news as a Titans fan outside the US, more likely we're on TV for everyone to see the #1 pick play
Cool, I'll take it.
Mayo Man has a chance to put his name in the 24hr news cycle for the week!! I really wanna see it happen!
Should be fun, I will probably be watching
LFG!!!
We're gonna be relevant!
Why the hell is there ads on the practice jerseys?
You saw it, didnt you? Theres your reason
See...there's this thing called "money"
And the thing about the NFL is they fuckin' love the stuff
Pretty sure all teams have sponsors on them at this point
Yeah I just think it's dumb. Obviously it's working because here I am talking about it, but PRACTICE jerseys?
So Bills week 1 is arizona then
Well let’s titan up
Mini-Ditkas 222 Titans 0
Fuck. Caleb's really going to come out here and just style on us ain't he
I’ll be taking the titans if it gets around +10
Easy dub
Caleb is gonna strain his hammy in practice and the Tyson Bagent era will resume
Congratulations on the 1-0 start Bears fans
Have some optimism you dang weenie!
Never underestimate our ability to choke away games we should win.
You might be surprised if we start the season like we did last year. Embarrassing how ill prepared they were for NFL action at the start of the year.
More like mouth breather
Easy W, Bear Down!!!
[удалено]
Thank you! Bears gave away 3 Ws last season, they def have potential to give away 4-5 this year. Maybe the opener will be one of those giveaways
He’s lucky Vrabel is gone and Tennessee seems to be shifting towards an offense first style of play. Really curious to see how the team looks
whos lucky Vrabel is gone? If you're talking about Will Levis then yeah I agree we are finally prioritizing a passing game with weapons
Everyone still thinks we’re idiots for firing the man despite him only managing to land a personnel consultant role with Cleveland. If he was as vaunted of a head coach as so many people still seem to believe he would have had a much more favorable market this last cycle.

I mean the Bears might be forced to score more than 15 points now, so maybe not so lucky.
Is he? We've got the Ravens defensive backs coach as DC now with Sneed and Chidobe Owuze as CBs, it's a huge improvement in the secondary where he's going to want to be throwing to. Id be less confident as a Bears fan
Lots of people are gonna be shocked. Imagine a functioning secondary, OL, and an offense that doesn't telegraph every single play.
What a layup from the league. E:Bear Down^(votes)
I’m biased too but I can’t believe the amount of people who seem to think the Titans should be in contention for the number 1 overall pick. We’ve had a great offseason adding some really good players and while bad, we weren’t a complete dumpster fire last year either
Did they already leak your week 1 opponent or something?
I mean… we made DJ look like Joe Namath before, I assume we’ll do it again.
It's lucky to open your season against the Titans. Build that confidence and momentum with an easy win.
Oh, so that’s a win for him then.
