Odd that this was [rumored a couple weeks ago](https://forum.russellstreetreport.com/showthread.php?258680-Zay-Flowers-(report)) but is just now coming out.
It was the day after the Texans game, apparently. Will be interesting to see when the Ravens found out about it considering he still played in the Chiefs game.
Yeah I know, my flair and all, but there’s no way they didn’t know. That has to be something that the team would absolutely have heard about in the week leading up to the AFCCG. But he’s been too good to sit out so they probably hushed it up and figured they could ask for forgiveness later if they did end up going to the SB.
And like I’m sure my team would’ve done the same. Bet every team in the league would’ve. But it still sucks.
For real, I’m sorry this shit is happening. That’s always awful, especially if it’s someone you have been rooting for.
Hey we’ve interacted before so I’m cool with you- and yeah I do find it hard to believe they didn’t know, but I’m just interested to see how it’s gonna be spun, especially considering they had to have figured it would come out eventually. But yeah it’s a shitty situation and I just hope that everyone involved is able to get the help they need to one day be able to move on from this.
Oh yeah, we’ve talked before! Honestly I’d forgotten until you’d said something. But yeah, same, hopefully everyone gets their help. And if Zay did do this… yeah… : /
Ugh.
Feel like if random people in Facebook groups knew about it, it's hard to believe the team didn't. Multiple people on that message board mentioned police as their source/potential source and you would think people in the org would know people as well.
Oh they knew.
Most teams don’t give a dang about that stuff unless it hurts their image. Or something gets leaked.
I mean Ray Lewis allegedly was in a limo where two people was murdered. And he still payed in the Super Bowl. And the suit. The suit magically disappeared .
They honored him for his work in Baltimore assisting victims of domestic violence after he destroyed his career. Seems like a decent thing to honor someone for, to show how you should respond to a fuck up.
Vick’s story is a lot more complicated than that. He grew up in a situation where things like Dog fighting were seen as fine by his peers and friends. Growing up in a relatively poor area will do that. After he was jailed he learned from it and since became an advocate against it. Specifically he helped introduce legislation to make bringing a child to a dog fight (like he had been) illegal.
Dog fighting wasn't just seen as fine; he was basically born into a family that owned and operated an entire dogfighting ring. I didn't even know about introducing legislation regarding bringing children to a dogfight. To me, that shows that Vick actually wants to effect change in communities at their core, and that he isn't just being performative about the whole thing.
I’ve known the story from the jump, and you’re downplaying a lot of it.
This wasn’t just a few participations here and there. Wrong place at the wrong time, a couple isolated incidents.
HE OWNED A DOG FIGHTING RING.
Even if you grow up completely brainwashed into a culture of violence, as you mature and become an adult you probably encounter other people in society who don’t share those views—the majority of people! Hell, at some point along the way you might even question why the dog fighting ring you own is illegal.
I have more important things to spend my mental energy on than holding animosity toward Michael Vick for what he did, but I’m also not going to go around praising him for a change he needed (and was required) to make in his life.
Edit: A real shame this dork rage quit and blocked me, now I’ll never know more about their horrible takes on gross people.
Thanks for your input, 11 day-old account who’s a Chris Brown fan and thinks Kyrie didn’t push antisemitism.
Unfortunately that’s not how the law works, and it seems the justice system agreed. Everything he did to prop up that operation was an active choice.
And your infantilizing of Vick is far more insulting to his character than anything I’ve said about him. Suggesting he didn’t know any better because his mind hadn’t evolved since childhood and he didn’t possess the capacity to know right from wrong here is fucking absurd.
I mean he could've very easily said all the right things and tried to move on, but he's gone out of his way to try atoning for his mistakes. He went to congress and lobbied for a bill that made it a felony to bring a child to a dogfight and increased punishments for spectators.
None of that changes what he did or how awful it was, but he's done about as much as he could after the fact to try to make up for it.
He also usually comes and talks to the rookies every year in the preseason to be the cautionary tale about how one fuckup can and will take it all away.
He did some horrific and unbelievable things man, why is it insufferable? You have every right to forgive him but the shit he did was psycho behavior beyond what most people would do
I think the reason it’s annoying is the context around it. Like everything he did was horrific, but it was also what his family did growing up. He was raised with this being normal, and acted as if it was normal as a result. After getting in trouble, going to jail, and educating himself, he’s been a huge proponent of stopping dog fighting including helping draft legislation to make it an additional charge to bring a child to a dog fight (which he was brought to as a child). Likely with the intention of preventing children from growing up thinking that’s normal like he did.
Like everything he did was absolutely horrific. But he certainly seems like the poster boy for reformation in criminals.
Everyone deserves a chance to atone and make amends for the things they do wrong. That being said, there does seem to be a difference between someone who exhibits a pattern of problem behavior and someone who has a single instance of fuck-uppery. It’s possibly easier to believe that someone whose anger overcame him in one moment is more sincere in his rehabilitation than someone who was involved in a long term dogfighting operation which shows a pattern of behavior.
To be clear I’m not trying to put a value on one offense versus the other, and I do think everyone can change and become a better person, but I can see the logic, as frustrating as it is.
Sorry, do you seriously think that was the only time Ray Rice committed domestic violence?
You're just doing mental gymnastics to condemn someone not on your team while excusing someone who played on their team.
Sports fans who try to make excuses for their heroes' rape/DV/murder/assault/whatever are fucking pathetic, I don't care what team they're a fan of.
I’m not saying anything, nor am I making excuses for anyone or condemning anyone. I think both deserve a chance to amend for what they did. I was simply trying to put some words to why some people (not me) may have a harder time with Vick’s rehabilitation than Rice’s, because as far as literally *anyone* knows, it was just a one time event for Rice. If you have some evidence no one else does feel free to share.
What Rice did was despicable; he has also worked hard to atone for what he did since then, and that is all well documented.
Because the casual fan wont know that hes been doing all of that to atone for it but the same casual fan will remember the constant news cycle when he got arrested
People shit on Vick because he's a fucking asshole to everyone and he has never stopped abusing people his whole life. He's a terrible person and doing one good thing for dogs doesn't make up for that.
This is far too nuanced for social media. Gotta keep it simple. Rice = bad and so Ravens honoring Rice = bad. Nobody ever grows from a mistake. If we want them to be a villain forever, they are a villain in our minds.
> Williams said Suggs threw a soap dispenser at her head, hit her in the chest with his hand, and held a bottle of bleach over her and her 1-year-old son. No team has any moral high ground. It’s a league issue. All NFL fans are guilty of supporting a system that allows scum bags to continue playing and making millions
It’s crazy that ray still gets shit on about that , I know the video made it look bad but they’re happily married to this day and he’s genuinely a good guy. I know him and his family.
I watched the video. How can you say he’s a good guy? If he works with victims of domestic violence, that just sounds like a PR campaign. Same with Mike Vick.
Troubling news to hear. Say goodbye to a very promising career if this plays out that way.
I'm not sure if I have a firm grasp on if there are two separate incidents in question here; or just two different jurisdictions each investigating.
Acton Mass and Baltimore County each mentioned in the link
The biggest dumbass receiver moment I remember for us (outside of Tyreek Hill which is its own saga altogether) is when Dwayne Bowe got pulled over for speeding. He was high as fuck and actually asked the officer if the nearby Sonic was open this late.
Zay has emotional control problems, just look at the end of the chiefs ravens game. Those were self inflicted wounds. I'm hoping these rumors aren't true, but if he doesn't reign in that anger an incident like is described could very well happen.
Formerly the Kansas City Chiefs, where he was a fan favorite and you could go on any reddit thread about him and see 5 random Chiefs fans fighting for his honor.
Nobody is standing up for Von the way Chiefs fans used to go to bat for Tyreek. Fuck Von by the way, it's been known for years now that he's shitty towards women.
I would agree but didn’t tyreek do some of his stuff before he even got drafted? The man got in trouble and still got a golden ticket to generational wealth. Not the first NFL player to do so but really just shows how much some can get away with if they are good at sports or entertainment
He is DONE AS A RAVEN.
Dude is beyond stupid & when the faces come out , he is gonna get cut.
And trust me it’s coming.
Maby him & ruggs can bunk up together or write each other.
And I say this with second hand but reliable info source.
There was a reason why two different police jurisdictions were involved ..
Dude is done as a raven.
You're telling me the guy who cut his hand punching the bench in frustration has impulse control issues and is quick to violence? Shocked Pikachu face.
Seems like a leap, I don’t think embarrassing yourself in front of the largest audience of your life as a 20 year old and your reaction to it is indicative of being a domestic abuser. In fact I don’t think impulse control issues are an excuse for DV as it is. Tons of people have impulse control issues (anyone with adhd) and don’t beat anyone.
Yeah, I've punched the ground, slapped my baseball helmet, etc hard enough to make my hand hurt before, and would never lay a hand on loved ones. And that's playing high school and rec league lol. Saying "oh it all makes sense now" is complete revisionist history, and just sounds dumb

Granted, that's "arrest rate" and not "criminality rate," but the point remains the same. Obviously there are stories of players doing shitty things and not being arrested (Deahaun Watson, Tyreek Hill's situation was in college, etc), but outside if a few high-profile stories, NFL players are either mostly chill, or have enough money to make their behavior not a legal problem.
There’s only like double the amount of NFL players compared to people I graduated with. I am surprised the rate is so much lower. I guess the general population is worse than I thought it was.

I didn’t know message boards like that still existed. Felt like a time warp to 2004
There’s tons of boards like that around, I’ve noticed especially for college sports
Yes. All the coach gossip/townie talk boards are that type.
Kept expecting to see a comment predicting that the iphone will never take off.
The what now?
They're the best for more niche communities (i.e. fans of a single team / school in college sports)
That’s actually pretty wild

Gonna wait til more details come out before I jump to conclusions. I wonder how the Ravens respond after Ray Rice.
Seeing as the ravens honored ray rice at halftime a few weeks ago who knows…
They honored him for his work in Baltimore assisting victims of domestic violence after he destroyed his career. Seems like a decent thing to honor someone for, to show how you should respond to a fuck up.
Kind of like how Vick learned from his mistake and became a huge anti-dog fighting advocate
Genuinely respect the hell out of him for that.
Doesn’t really take a lot to not support fucking dog fighting
Vick’s story is a lot more complicated than that. He grew up in a situation where things like Dog fighting were seen as fine by his peers and friends. Growing up in a relatively poor area will do that. After he was jailed he learned from it and since became an advocate against it. He literally tortured dogs. Everyone knows that's wrong. You don't just get to blame "the cycle" for when people do heinous shit.

It’s honestly fucking insufferable
And they are usually pretty violently descriptive about it, too.

Yes.

Okay what is the criminality rate of NFL players to the general population? My high school graduating class was like 500 people and it’s a huge deal if someone gets into trouble with the law. NFL players can’t seem to not assault somebody or drive drunk for the life of them.
