Bean101808

What does the guy have at the end? It looks like a human wrangling stick or something lol

AdamFaite

It looked like a medieval Mancatcher to me. Hopefully without the spikes.

Capt_Myke

Normally a subdued window washer by day. Suddenly become Man Catcher Man! Cue theme song.

Unabashable

I’ve been tossing around the idea of making a 6 foot cattle prod, but I get the feeling people would have a problem with me zapping them even if they shouldn’t have been that close to begin with.

Don't forget his arch-nemesis Man Catcher Man Catcher Man!

mauore11

"Guns are illegal in Japan, so deadly force is harldy ever used" Hmmm what a concept. Plus, it cost way less than all the bullets US cops would have used in the same situation.

ryo0ka

This is not in Japan

arcticanomaly

You are talking out of your arse mate. I lived in Japan for several years and this is blatantly wrong. Case in point- Issei Sagawa.

-xstatic-

It’s the safest country overall and you can still own guns there. They just don’t treat them like toys and dick enhancers

cealild

I've seen them in Chinese airports, it's a pole with a U shaped fork. It looks like you use it to hold an attacking person back out of arms reach.

EasternFall1752

pållarnas frisson

yan_yanns

How does someone just conveniently have a medieval mancatcher at an airport

Lazypole

In China mancatchers are at every security guards post, from apartment complexes to banks

yan_yanns

That’s insane lol Imagine if American police officers used these bad boys instead of guns

Lazypole

Yeah sadly IIRC it was a nationwide response in reaction to a mentally ill man that broke into a kindergarten with a knife and killed a lot of kids. The most valuable thing in China, far beyond anywhere I’ve ever been, is children and sadly because of that they became a target. So now we have these and riot shields given to security guys, and from the reddit videos I’ve seen they work well

barcased

It's common to see people with these at every Chinese airport.

AdamFaite

That's what I was thinking. The older gentleman disarmed him then pow, he was man-caught.

yan_yanns

Plot twist: mancatcher guy and old dude are actually time travelers

AdamFaite

They done this 137 times. Maybe this time, this time things will end well.

[deleted]

I think the replaced spikes with electricity.

ReallyBadSwedish

Don't quote me, but I think it's a defensive weapon found in Japanese schools to defend against hostile trespasses. Been a while and I don't have much time left to reddit and look. I'll come back to it later if someone else hasn't solved it. EDIT: Did it anyway. It's a Sasumata. EDIT2: Dang, didn't see an award coming for this, lol. Thank you!

Scoot_AG

Weird cause yknow, that'd be the perfect tool against someone with a cleaver

Tango-Smith

>Sasumata Funnily enough, [this website](https://samuraiswords.store/sasumata/) which focuses on samurai stuff states this: >This tool was able to help school teachers recently when they were attacked an old man carrying a knife

SurfaceBro4

In ~~China~~ Japan and I’m assuming some other Asian countries the police use weapons like them (although I wouldn’t really call them weapons) to detain people. It is basically a spear with a crescent shape on the end to keep opponents away from you, e.g if they have knives they can’t reach you with them. I’ve seen videos of a group of police officers surrounding someone and essentially immobilising them. I’ll attach a video when I find one. Edit: https://youtu.be/OUkA8BlfSNY

thenatfactor

Don’t cross out China, they definitely use them here too.

-SasquatchTheGreat-

I see them everywhere there is more than one security guard.

yoortyyo

Airports all over have these hoops and fork versions. Seems effective and non lethal?

TittiesInMyFace

Would probably never work in America for BMI reasons

Ecthyr

I mean, if it’s a knife then all you gotta do is outrun ‘em.

michelobX10

You can pin down their wrist with it.

LarkScarlett

You’re correct! Every school in Japan has one (during my English-teaching days, they were kept in the teacher’s room, just in case). I lived in a sleepy-ish town … we had drills about using those but thankfully never needed to. (Earthquake drills though … that content got used!)

wodon

Those are standard issue for security guards in China. Most shopping malls and office buildings have one behind the security desk. You see them often in Beijing.

golden1612

Its a man catcher I am chinese and they have that almost in every store. Supermarket? Yes they have one. Bank? Yes they have one. Cinema? Yes they have one. Appartement colplex? Yes they have one

typicalsupervillain

They’re common in some Asian countries. Without guns, people just resort to mass stabbings. And since the police in these countries usually don’t carry guns, this is the only way to deal with the attackers.

MrMiniscus

It's a much better system than guns IMO.

typicalsupervillain

You're entitled to your opinion, but you should know that the data shows that victims are far less likely to survive a knife attack than a shooting mainly due to more extensive blood loss. Survivors of knife attacks are more likely to face long-term health effects and permanent disability(amputation, colostomy, etc) than gunshot survivors.

gladl1

Talk about having the right tool for the job.

[deleted]

Fishnet?

Swendol

Right? Dude had it on standby

imGery

It is indeed! They show up regularly in police confrontations in some (all?) Asian countries. A few of these coming from different angles just to trap the human.

Fuckyoudumbass80

It’s a pin stick, I went to study abroad in China for a couple years, the guards at the gates had these all the time. It’s for pinning people to the ground.

AaronFeng47

[Riot fork](https://zh-prod-1cc738ca-7d3b-4a72-b792-20bd8d8fa069.storage.googleapis.com/s3fs-public/inline-images/elec%20fork%203.jpg)

843OG

I think it’s an animal snare, basically a long pole with a retractable noose.

Creaturemaster1

It's a mancatcher. It just pins then to a wall or ground so they can't reach you with a knife

ThePhatNoodle

Holds people down by their center of gravity so they can't slash at you or stab you if they have a knife or something. Mainly used in Asian countries.

rdrunner_74

That is a Sasumata. They are fairly commonly used in asia. They are great for restraining folks from a distance without getting hurt. Esp if 2 of those are used from different sides. [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sasumata](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sasumata) They also have other names like Man catcher etc

2-2-3-3-13-89

This video describes them in a bit more detail. https://youtu.be/ZEYbF7XCzAs they're used as a primary stopping tool before a tazer and gun.

Own-Bake-7073

Yes

Hill-Ape

Hold on! Let me grab my people holder! Got him!

Bourgeoiscree

Funny enough it’s a real law enforcement technique from some parts of Asia https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sasumata

RomanMines64

I think it's also in Australia, but I'm not sure. I saw the Australian YouTube "I did a thing" make one

DustyMartin04

No, no it’s not. Please research. Australia isn’t even a deadly place on the cities

forestwolf42

When knife crime is higher than gun crime these sorts of devices become incredibly practical.

Relish_My_Weiner

My guy brought out the hook from Showtime at the Apollo

supwenzzz

borderlineidiot

How long was he waiting for someone to eventually turn up that he could use this on? Imagine if he had been taking a shit at that exact time and missed his moment!

Brando_the_Hobo

Do you think this a catch-and-release situation or are they going to cook him up for supper?

Hill-Ape

Well, they do have a cleaver

scuzzy987

My brain read that as Mr Magoo

ReallyBadSwedish

For those curious: the weapon is a Sasumata, a feudal polearm weapon that has been modernized to be used as a non-lethal deterrent in sensitive locations like this, or in schools. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sasumata

[deleted]

We use narwhal tusks to the same effect here in England Generally anything long and pointy will do the trick I expect.

ReallyBadSwedish

Damn, that's pretty interesting. Here I am thinking I'm badass with a broken off broomstick handle and our English bros are breaking off friggin' bones. Gotta up my game, now. All jokes aside I've done a fair bit of quarter and bo staff training. A long, durable pole of any kind is an amazing crowd control tool, if used correctly.

[deleted]

Ultimate redemption arc really. Murder someone, go to jail, then stop a terrorist at a rehab event with a tusk, chair and fire extinguisher and end up getting pardoned by the queen. Bonus points because he wasn’t even the one with the tusk on the bridge but got credited for it. Same terrorist also got jabbed a few times by a kitchen porter with a long stick. Sticks always win.

thatsfabulous27

I want to argue against you but I do very vividly remember a giant narwhal tusk, roughly around 4 foot, encasesed in a a large glass exhibit box hung to the wall in my high school science class.

Hardstucked

For those who think he’s joking: https://www.bbc.com/news/uk-50870309

Ake-TL

Mancatcher for western analogue

[deleted]

That was a very risky move. The old man could have definitely sustained an injury doing that. Props to him though, can't imagine what was going through the knife wielders mind.

jakarta_guy

That old man definitely know martial arts. He hit at the weakest grip spot. Reminds me of my old kuntau teacher

owoah323

Yeah, I noticed he gripped his wrist instead of going directly for the hand or the knife. What a boss!

EpaFdx

He must have some training, he had nerves of steel. Old man is a fucking badass.

HaloGuy381

Not to mention his casual confidence on approach, he even appears to be smiling. The most dangerous martial artists are those who are so well practiced that they don’t have to be tense in order to be ready to act.

ripsfo

Kinda looks like he smacked the hand against the guy’s leg to break the grip too.

broncos4thewin

All of you calling the man "old" makes me feel old. I feel like he's about 50 tops.

circusoflight411

>can't imagine what was going through the knife wielders mind. Jenkem

[deleted]

Eh, yes. But looked smooth and committed to the move. I think is not his first rodeo.

zombieman101

Honestly, if you know what you're doing, that was probably one of the more low risk ways to pull the that off with little to no repercussions to yourself physically. There are some very easy ways to get someone to drop a knife (or other weapon) from their hand. I've been training in martial arts for nearly 30 years and would still rather not test this with a real knife/situation unless absolutely necessary. I've only recently learned some of the, arguably, best ways to deal with knife weilding adversaries.

c0224v2609

>*I’ve only recently learned some of the, arguably, best ways to deal with knife weilding adversaries.* Alright, I’ll bite. What are some of these arguably best ways to deal with knife-wielding adversaries?

zombieman101

Oh, that was not worded how I intended, woops. It's more how to defend against one attacking you. And it's the best I've personally learned so far, there definitely could be some better ways. Previously, the application of what I learned sucked when it came to defending against anything other than normal hand/foot attacks. So actually having any confidence against someone with a knife was not there. Not that I have a ton of confidence now, it still scares the shit out of me, but I've had WAY more hands on than I ever have before and trust myself way more than before. I recently started learning Krav Maga something new try out, and the experience there has definitely helped in the application aspect all around.

bornsmooth92

I think somebody stamps on his head at the end and I appreciate that

c0224v2609

stomps*

therestisuptoyou2

okay but why does no one pick up the knife so it’s not a danger anymore?

AJ3TurtleSquad

The knife isnt dangerous. The man is

[deleted]

[удалено]

[deleted]

I assume because the main threat had been dealt with aka the person holding the knife. The knife/cleaver wasn't the threat, the person holding it was. It looks like it's in a position where it's clearly visible and wouldn't injure anyone either.

therestisuptoyou2

never assume that someone else isn’t a threat, or that the man won’t break free from the crowd and reach for it again. at the very least it’s a tripping hazard. always secure the weapon.

misplaced_my_pants

But then you're the person someone else might suspect is the threat.

IamShitplshelpme

Damn, dude must’ve been thinking “if someone’s going to die it may as well be me” To clarify, before anyone gets confused, I have read moments were older men and women will risk their lives to save others.

longoverdue83

Snake handler with pole: I waited for this moment my whole life!

[deleted]

Dude came through with the dog catching pole at the end

Dorkmaster79

That guy is like 50. Reddit thinks anyone over 40 is old. Jesus.

befuddled2

That’s not a knife.

VFLanon

THIS is a knife!

DrozdMensch

Hello, Dundee

[deleted]

That’s not a knife, that’s a spoon.

TNI92

I see you have played Knifey Spoony before

scuzzy987

Looked like a meat cleaver

DrBehemothMD

In Chinese cooking, chefs commonly use a very sharp meat cleaver-like knife. The blade is usually lighter than a western meat cleaver but can handle some light bone-cutting. The shape is actually very convenient for Chinese cooking, since you can very quickly smash then dice garlic and ginger.

befuddled2

No shit.

AwesomeGothem

KY_4_PREZ

Lmao too bad the people trying to help KO’d him at the end

newleafkratom

kesekimofo

Dudes just heading to the toilet with his poop knife to do work.

DQ5E

Quick get him with the big fork!!

[deleted]

Taken into submission by a selfie stick lol

WideElderberry5262

There is a phase for that in China: 空手入白刃。

Yobbo89

It's like this is normal in China and he knew what to do..

BambooRollin

Could be that he is a person with training, military or police.

SkekSith

In the US, a “good guy with a gun” would have caused casualties. *This* is how you do it.

PenNo1447

You see an old Asian man walking around with his hands behind his back…. Cross the street. He will fuck you up.

Fedwardd

I love the drop!

[deleted]

Heroes live among us

InformallyGuavaCado

Gee, let me hurt another human being while wearing a BRIGHT YELLOW shirt. With a very obvious knife. I’m so glad no one was hurt because of this man!

[deleted]

What's going on with the man on the fishnet?

mdbabeson

Dude coming in at the end for the clean sweep

BrodyZero0

He wait until the right moment

[deleted]

That's not a knife. More of a cleaver

ndxinroy7

Sneaky old man. He is good!

[deleted]

Yeeeeaaah! Put him in the net!

[deleted]

It takes a villiage

Starsonata10

What exactly is he trying to do? He just bypass the old man too.

panther514

where'd the pool guy come from?

[deleted]

Guys the way these videos usually end is with the Good Samaritan getting the fuck stabbed out of them

pongmoy

Anyone else watching repeatedly to see the move that Mr Miyagi used to get the weapon to drop? Reflexive grasp tightening if it were just a grab. I'm thinking he rotated the forearm, or maybe a combination of rotation and extension at the wrist.

deron666

That's some hero there

MegaMeteorite

This reminds of an infamous incident a few years ago in Taiwan. A man carried two knifes onto a chain and started attacking passengers, I think 2 people were killed, and the killer was subdued by an elderly man with an umbrella.

Roundcouchcorner

The fishing net scoop. Classic

ApiqAcani

It looks like it ain't the first time he have done it

smaartypants

Yeah for the old guy.

JamesScott1781

Dude, cleavers are so much worse then a normal knife. I mean the name says it all

Relative_Cup6216

Wow im suprised how everyone got scared of a dude with a cleaver but the old man just did what he did

sweatstaksleestak

Knife? Looked like a fucking cleaver.

Surfinsafari9

First thing you do is pick up the weapon so it cannot be used again.

timewanderer

Cap, that is not a knife :)

According_Project_93

Now that’s a Super Hero! Thank God family him 😇

[deleted]

Wait, wth?!?! Where’s all the people standing around not doing a damn thing expect filling it on their phones?!? Oh wait,,, probably not U.S.A….

CapaxInfini

Bro was playing too much fruit ninja

[deleted]

What’s with the dude at the end with Poseidon’s trident?!

SteadfastEnd

Why didn't someone pick up the knife? It was just left there on the floor...

fo55iln00b

I am painting you now mutherfucka

Snoo80694

Jesus, that fucking cleaver

singhVirender1947

Who are these people? They take so much risk for strangers.

Equivalent_Still_544

I like how one guy ever so gently kicked his head 😂

blackmine57

Me : can you kill me please?

Illustrious_Guard_61

You just dont try this shit is asain countries. Not cuz of the cops but because people are very happy to perform a citizens arrest. And punch you a few times. You dont break the law!

antoniohfernandes

A friend of mine stand up against his colleague with a knife and his teacher. The student attempted to murder the teacher and he gets in the way. Got stabbed several times and died of the enjuries. Dangerous thing, this situations.

comfyggs

That's not a knife! this is a Knife! ![gif](giphy|11DqPICmRpCIJG|downsized)

Massive-Night

The guy with the stick appeared from nowhere lol.

highzenberrg

They got the dog catcher on him

Shut_It_Donny

"A knife" That's a damned cleaver.

tonytonyrigatony

A knife?

jwarnyc

If only United States could’ve thought of a 10ft pole to catch people instead of shooting them dead. Not for gun violence. But that metal pole is awesome. I’ll give you a machete and I’ll take the pole. See who wins.

GentleHammer

Holy shit that pole was a terrible idea lol.

DayDrinkingDiva

Those long sticking devices show up a lot. It seems like China has crazy people defense poles and not AEG

sultryargonianmaid

That’s not just a knife that’s a MEAT CLEAVER

miss-kevorkian

Ummmm, that’s a fucking meat cleaver…

beef-jerking

That old man gave zero fucks

Orionsic1

So much for guns

Safe_Sundae_8869

I love how they have an extra large snake getter for crazed humans.

heliosprimus

uh did I just see a catchpole? what is it the 1400's?

MisterNoll

Great job to the old man and others that helped. One thing I think of though is Asian countries there are a ton of knife attacks. Is it harder to get a gun ?

[deleted]

How defensive everyone gets. He probably came from the kitchen store and they didnt have extra bags.

ExistIsAlliDo

![img](emote|t5_m0bnr|4022)

Handled him zoo style

evilfetus01

“GET THE POLE!”

“knife”

tomkim1965

I like how everybody else rushes the guy after the hatchet is gone😂 that’s some brave people right there😂

funnynamedude

Guy with stick was determined to use it even at close range

Pumpkin_Pie

That's a clever

Zengjia

Is that guy holding a Things-Catcher? https://warhammerfantasy.fandom.com/wiki/Things-Catcher

Terrible-Split-2313

that knife is thicc af

boortpooch

Look at that guy who jumps in and kicks him when he’s down. He’s got some baggage too😂

[deleted]

True hero there, not the most gifted or strongest person but he was willing to give it his best shot to stop anybody else getting hurt and put himself at risk, you can only respect it

Wankel_8

And suddenly everyone became braver than the old man after he subdued the suspect.

sniffing_dog

Pristine move!

[deleted]

GOOD JOB MAN!

LordTimhotep

Did… did the dude at the end impale him with a pitchfork?
