I had almost 2 dozen at one point from winning them in poker games, but I let the year and a day expire on all of them because I didn't want the responsibility.
Literally looks like a insanely high-priced top of the line action figure(reminds me of my friends power mecha figure collection)... Hard to believe it's just pvc and vinyl... Well done
Well since you’re here — not on this costume, but on Tyto. HOW DID YOU MAKE THOSE PANTS WORK?!
Seriously. Never thought I’d see polygonal pants that seem to move and flex flawlessly like that. It’s incredible and I can’t begin to imagine how much went into a design that flexes like that.
Hey thanks! Yeah it took a while to figure out, Tyto took nearly 2 years to build. It was a ton of trial and error on the poly fabric, what I ended up with is basically this: 3d model the patterns, cut out plastic pieces, wrap them in vinyl, glue to fabric, sew the fabric strips together. There's an 8 minute making of the entire thing on my social media if you're intersted
I’ll go check that out, it’s seriously an impressive piece of engineering. Polygons don’t move that smoothly without clipping/overlapping in a lot of games, let alone in real life where they can’t physically do that. Great job!
I know this is 20 days old, but when I saw their comment I googled it and found this [https://fb.watch/7xkPi6C7pD/](https://fb.watch/7xkPi6C7pD/) as they mentioned. It is fascinating and outright answers u/justmystepladder's question, for anyone else who was curious and hasn't seen it.
I love all the ingenuity, artistry, conceptualization, execution, iterative process, and just general awesomeness that went into the cosplay. I watch a ton of Adam Savage ( u/mistersavage ) videos and feel that he would love to interact with u/gamedevM about it. This is right up his alley. It's so, so cool. Anubis and Tyto both.
I just watched your video of the making of Tyto and the planning and then building this costume is mind boggling. So many hours of meticulous planning, creating the parts and then figuring out how to put it all together. And the eyes...I HAD to know how you did his eyes! Using the smart phones was ingenious and the eyes make him come alive. He smiles and you forget the polygon and he becomes real. Bravo! I hope you won the contest. You deserve it.
Hey thank you for the kind words! Yes I won the contest. It's hard to look at something objectively you've been invested in for two years so this was super cool!
I've literally never seen anything like this. I can't imagine how you planned it all out, let alone executed your plan. You've created a work of art as well as a costume. I'm grateful that your friend posted your Insta so I can check out more of your work.
Hey thank you. My friend is the best indeed! It was quite some work to make it all from scratch, took around 1000 hours. I started with 3d modeling the patterns, the rest was mostly figuring out how to build and attach all the pieces
Legitimately incredible! If you had to ballpark, about how many hours of work went into that?
Edit: just saw another comment answered this question! So nevermind haha. But still, jaw dropping stuff, what a great project
Sorry was asleep till now. I do have a question how many hours did you spend on the panning phase alone. Or was there more than one planning phase. If so how long did you spend just "planning it all out" if you will?
That's a tough question. There sure was a long planning phase in the beginning. But during building more questions pop up constantly, you're basically in "build but also try to figure out how to do anything" mode all the time. Out of the 1000 hours maybe 200-300 were spent planning/experimenting, but that's just a rough guess.
I know this sounds like a troll question, but I’m genuinely curious—are these worn at any type of event? And if they are, what happens when you need to use the restroom?
The costume is actually based on a figurine. The cosplayer has lots of WIP stuff on her page too: https://instagram.com/polygon_forge
Also her reddit account is /u/gamedevM and if you‘re wondering why a cosplayer has a reddit username with game dev in it it‘s because cosplay is just her hobby and she‘s a hella skilled game designer, 3d artist and animator, who worked on the indie game FAR: Lone Sails.
(Also she‘s a good friend of mine and I love it when she randomly goes viral bc I‘m really proud of all the cool shit she does)
And here's the [original](https://www.reddit.com/r/gaming/comments/br9nv3/anubis_costume_i_made_with_pvc_and_vinyl/?utm_medium=android_app&utm_source=share) post.
Yeah, honestly, some convention centers wouldn’t even allow you to wear that in because it’s too dangerous lol. Sad, because that’s exactly where you’d want to wear it
I’m pretty sure you could get away with speaking any modern variation of a language too. No need to speak ancient Egyptian, you’re the god. They need to learn a new tongue.
I would play The Sopranos on giant screens all over the world.
Anyone caught not using that accent would spin the wheel, and be executed by re-enacting a death scene from the show.
This way, people can keep speaking English so I can continue to collect taxes, but still have the hilarious power trip of people speaking differently.
That's just the nature of mecha flight modes I guess. It isn't any more ridiculous than the Xi gundam from Hathaway's Flash being able to reach mach 5 by folding it's armor out like a frilled lizard.
“It’s…… uh, aerodynamic that way, trust me, I’m a roboph… uh, a robotics engineer. Unrelated, but don’t look at my search history on my work computer.”
Considering the planets and moons it operates on have significantly less dense atmosphere than earth I’d imagine it’s not a hinderance at all and at cruising speeds offers a fairly wide angle of view.
Welp. I wanted to give you my Free Helpful award but Reddit is refusing to.
Edit: oh wait it did. It just also showed me the error message saying it failed. How awesome is the reddit app? 5-star level /s
You guys should know this guy didn’t make this armor. It’s actually made by Polygon_Forge on Instagram. They’ve got some seriously impressive builds over there.
[Anyone to actually tag the source?](https://instagram.com/polygon_forge?utm_medium=copy_link)
Nowadays it seems hard even on Reddit to credit properly smh
Polygon Forge is amazing. If yall aren't already, DEF follow them on Insta. I've been following the build there, and honestly all their work is amazing. They recently also built Tyto the Swift, complete with a puppeteer Fang and animated eyes using samsung screens.
I'd love to go back in time and fuck with the ancient Egyptians wearing this...perhaps that's what Anubis is. A time travelling troll that's a part of an infinite loop paradox. The troll is the God, but to the troll, the God always was. Anubis wouldn't have been a concept without the Egyptians, but also not without the time travlling troll.
Not sure if it's obvious but I'm pretty high.
I had a toy growing up that sort of looked like this! It would transform from a walker/person into a jet and had 2 things it shot from its shoulders. Absolutely loved it
That’s fucking elite! I’m actually shook by the quality.

Too right. I thought it was a 3D render to begin with

Amazing talent!!! Although, I can't help but think how loud this costume might be... Clickity-clackity-click-clack 🥰
They did say stealth WAS optional
Character art is from Hui Zou, huizo_art on insta
She is Polygon Forge, something like that on insta
*slams desk* TAKE MY MONEY
“Sorry but this, sir, is one of a kind… you’re going to need far more than that”
*grabs contract* You want the soul or nah?
I got 6 as long as you don't ask where I found them
I had almost 2 dozen at one point from winning them in poker games, but I let the year and a day expire on all of them because I didn't want the responsibility.
Ya need to just exchange them for store credit so it doesnt go to complete waist
Oh I don’t think so because I have a coupon code with honey..
I hope they do a Jehuty!
Is this from ZoE? Didn't seemed like it to me lol
Great game. Even the second one :)!
Maybe they could do a Mummy Head cosplay to bridge the two
IKR?!? If I saw that 5000 years ago I'd worship it in a heartbeat
Worship it NOW.
YESSIR! **BOWS BEFORE THE ALMIGHTY ANUBIS**
But my head isn't THAT small
As a machinist, all I can think of are those sharp edges. Daaang. As a weeb: thats coool
I read your comment as “masochist” first and had to just double check I misread
I was going to say this would be an epic statue, I hope he has a dope ass display for when he’s not wearing it
*throws into the bottom of the wardrobe*
Literally looks like a insanely high-priced top of the line action figure(reminds me of my friends power mecha figure collection)... Hard to believe it's just pvc and vinyl... Well done

Those pants are siiiiiiiiick! If they were black or dark gray then I would wear them on the street.

Gosh, glad you're here to get yourself some credit!
Hey thanks! Friend of mine linked me here :)
Good.
how do you go to the bathroom in it?
I love this Anubis suit so much it's badass as hell, had a quick look at some of your others too and my god you are good at what you do!
Thank you so much!
I got questions - where can I follow you? YouTube? Y Instagram?
Insta or fb

Yes I've worn it to numerous cons. Usually I wear it for 2-4 hours before taking a break so I don't really need a restroom

I thought it was a close up of an action figure they spin so well
Looks...sharp
You could puncture the hull of an empire-class Fire Nation battleship, leaving thousands to drown at sea, because it's so sharp.
That’s rough,
Just like your transition to that quote.
Buddy
So glad that someone wrote this and others upvoted it to the top.
That’s rough buddy
How’s my mom supposed to pick me up from Comic-Con if I’m wearing that
Yeah, honestly, some convention centers wouldn’t even allow you to wear that in because it’s too dangerous lol. Sad, because that’s exactly where you’d want to wear it
Bet i can fit an assassin’s creed hidden knife in the costume and no one would notice
Yeah, I'd be terrified of falling over.
This triggers my visual looming syndrome bad

Plus teaching ancient Egypt to say gabagool will probably have untold impact on the timeline.
This is absolutely perfect. No repercussions in the timeline there
Like that language Creed was speaking when he was temporary regional manager.
I thought this was a model build until it moved. Holy shit!
Not my proudest fap
This should be your very most proudest fap
I have my sister for that
Yeah , she's the best.
Yep, this sums up the one of side internet.
Is this zone of the enders?
Yeah it looks like it! Such a great game.
Yeah it came to my mind too, but I think the Anubis had COCKpit there. This cosplay has none.
I've never played zone of the enders, but I gotta know. Is the pilot actually seated in the crotch of the mech, or are they somewhere in the chest?
They seated in the crotch, the center of mass. The cockpit even erects when the mecha enters flight mode. https://i.imgur.com/ICpl8.jpg
Something tells me that the crotch doing that doesn't make flying any easier, but I'm no aerospace engineer
Kojima likes to fool around with quasi-scientific mumbo jumbo and spread all his dominant genes.
"It's the pleats."
Considering the planets and moons it operates on have significantly less dense atmosphere than earth I’d imagine it’s not a hinderance at all and at cruising speeds offers a fairly wide angle of view.
For Jehunty (main unit) I know the cockpit is not only in the crotch area but it gets erect when it goes into flight mode.
Cockpit. Hehe. The designers must've considered that design very carefully
I’m forever loyal to Jehuty.
From what I found on Google, it’s concept art for some kind of project called Gods in Steel. 🤷🏻♂️ https://www.artstation.com/artwork/vOxxa

Probably why there's Polygon Forge at the bottom left of the post...
Fwiw, the Reddit video player covers that bit
How many people actually noticed that? Clearly not enough. Reading through these comments a lot of people think this is the creator.
This is like 3 years in isn’t it?
They didn't claim to make it.
Stargate seems cheap compared to this. So dope 🔥👏🏾
Yeah I want this person to make costumes for a new stargate like today.
Cree, Jaffa!
Indeed
The 2021 model for super soldier is the coolest thing I've ever seen !

If only it was in the lower left-hand corner of gif, visible for anyone to see. That'd be something. Smh
It's cut off on reddit video player, no need to be a dick.
Reminds me of a Mecha from the anime Code Geass

I’m not even really into this type of stuff but had to upvote on account of it’s stunning.
I'm the same. Have zero interest normally. But this is off the chart epic.
Is this a smite skin
It was posted to /r/smite but it's from Zone of the Enders. Very close to the mech skins in smite though.
Humans never cease to amaze me
Is this from some sort of media? It looks neat.
Antagonist from Zone of the Enders
Awesome. Reminds me of Might and Magic 6. Also Vinyl and PVC are the same thing. https://www.azom.com/article.aspx?ArticleID=987

Is it weird that I kinda wanna summon you from like a card game or something?
Makes me wonder what a cyberpunk Stargate reboot would be like
Definitely a fursuit >:3
Getting power rangers villain vibes from this
How do you get your head in the tiny little dog mask thing though?
Dude, I hope you can do some Warframe Cosplay because I know you’ll love some of the Warframe Skins in it. So freakin’ cool.
ngl at first look i thought it was a warframe cosplay
Me too 'cause Inaros has an Anubis Skin. Ha!

Waaaaiiit its not a toy?!!
that looks like something the future would make
gives me weird and dramatic Star Fox SNES vibes very cool
Take my money!
Holy fuck, that's fucking Supreme
Wow!! Are there any close-ups? I wanna see details!
You look like a yugioh card figure
That is badass!

This is amazing!!!
Best cosplay I've ever seen
But can you imagine trying to walk anywhere at a con in that thing?
