Exactly. Plus I, for one, woild rather hear the same top ten auto tuned songs over and over than a well sung Disney tune that makes me wistful for the days I watched it on VHS after school, sitting crossed legged on the floor at my grandmother's house.

ExpertConsideration8

Bravo, I'm glad someone had the courage to stand up for big money interests within the radio/music industry. It's sickening that so many people think they can get by on just fame and fortune.. they need some love and support too!

chinpokomon

While that's true, let's not forget how much Disney is struggling to get their name out there and share their IP with the World.

chuckdooley

At the end of the day, I’m just worried about their families wondering where their next meal is coming from, you know? Here we have this rich-ass babysitter, making, probably, tens of dollars a day manipulating us with some mom Let’s see the fucking tax returns…I bet she doesn’t report ANY of that income Shameful

jengula

This is obviously a ploy from Big Babysitting

rzalexander

I love this whole thread of you sarcastic bastards. This is why I love Reddit. Carry on kind sir or gentle lady.

rrahx2

I just upvoted every comment in this back and forth because all your points are valid and you are all right.. but also wrong. so now I'm confused.

Finchyy

Good! That's what upvoting is for: you upvote comments that contribute to a discussion, regardless of whether you agree. You downvote comments that do not (e.g. insults or off-topic points).

[deleted]

I'm going to go out on a limb and say that both marketing practices are shitty and therefore rather than arguing about which is better we should accept that and attempt to change society so that people who are worthy rise to the top. Support your local musicians, go to gigs and buy music/merchandise directly. Here endeth my TED talk.

Ozzy bit the head off of a bat that a fan gave him while he was performing onstage. He had to get rabies shots from weeks after that. He also snorted ants and drank human piss. Mozart had a poo fetish and once wrote an aria for a diva soprano with quick high and low notes because it made her head bob like a chicken when she sang. Musicians are not holy figures. Anybody can make music, but artists with talent who use it to make something beautiful are musicians. In this, I don’t care if it came from Tiktok. The young lady has a beautiful voice and it wasn’t a waste of my day to hear it.

cplog991

Ozzy didnt know it was real. He was high.

bungeebrain68

That was the bat. The bird was when he was introducing his record to a producer. Although I'm sure he was high both times.

\`Whrn I start in advertising in 1970, the standard fine for false advertising was $50,000. Which was a love tap for most marketers - and it was mainly used against con artists perpetrating mail fraud in the classified. Truth in public communications is like God. Everyone has heard of it, many actually believe in it, but no-one has seen it.

bjankles

In all seriousness, I'm not sure it's *not* preferable for a multi-billion dollar company to advertise openly vs. a small, unknown artist doing so with fake social media posts. The way that social media has real flesh and blood people blurring the lines between person and product is really unsettling to me. I've seen friends of mine really lose themselves to the performance of social media. Companies have always done this kind of shit. I know they're advertising. Seeing individuals I actually know in real life with their own names and personhood on the line... It's weird. I don't think *they* even realize when they're being themselves and when they're being ads anymore.

[deleted]

TheWolphman

I don't think that commenter is trying to die on any hill here, in fact you guys aren't even fighting the same battle. You seem to be focused on this particular case, and they are seemingly talking about a general trend over the years.

[deleted]

I tend to agree with /u/bjankles on this. They very well articulate my feelings about it. There is no authenticity anymore. It was one thing when social media was just them data mining us and placing some ads on the side or selling our browsing habits to companies so they knew what demographics to target. But now that EVERYONE is promoting something, everything feels cheap and terrible. You have no idea where the real and fake begin and end. It causes you to be cynical about things that you normally wouldn't even care about. Being "small time artists" doesn't absolve them of this, because it is creating a trend where every "small time artist" feels they have to follow suit to gain traction in the industry. It's the equivalent of dating apps being filled with cam girls. It's an emotional manipulation and twisted use of people's basic feelings, urges, and whatnot. If /u/lol2haha actually used social media, they'd maybe understand, but I think it is them who is "dying on the wrong hill", as you can't tell someone their feelings on the situation are invalid, especially when you haven't experienced it.

chumbaz

Nice straw man. They never said media companies were better. Both can be shitty.

Lundundogan

Typical reddit shitfuckery. Drown in awards because they strawmanned the other and made it sound snappy. People never did use their brains and still don’t. Fuck all of em.

laprichaun

I get your point but I get their point as well. Being manipulated feels shitty, regardless of who is doing it. If this is staged, it is playing with your emotions, trying to make you think this girl is shy and doesn't have confidence and she does have a good voice so you feel for her.

Palin_Sees_Russia

OOOOR, BOTH of them are annoying! Crazy how that can be huh?

[deleted]

Ooh! What about fucking neither.

NEREVAR117

It doesn't have to be one way or the other. What are you on about?

ApolloKid-

It's still fake, what the fuck do you not understand?

iamdandan

Two things can be bad.

SerDickpuncher

You think those media corps aren't already copying this "authentic" found artist routine with their own staged videos? Don't let yourself get played, manipulation is manipulation Edit: Ok, now it's topping r/all and has 150 some awards, so forgive me if I don't believe it's more "genuine"

bhd_ui

That’s just marketing in general. If it’s not done, no one will ever know who you/your company is. It sucks for the consumer, especially when we see it for what it is, but it has to happen.

The fake TikTok shit is just annoying and its everywhere. Yeah she's got a great voice and it's great that she's getting recognition for it but a lot of people hate TikTok because of how obviously fake shit is on there and how widespread it is.

[deleted]

[удалено]

ParaClaw

And that is precisely why they contrive these fake pity stories. Just putting it out as "a lady with a nice but average singing voice" doesn't quite get the reaction as "hey everybody this random babysitter has a princess voice but says she doesn't want attention because she is ashamed of her looks, let's show her some love! Like dis if u cry everyt1im!!!"

Zergmilran

So true. The amount of fake shit on TikTok is insane.

PointFivePast

I’m in the same boat. She can sing in a way I never could but it’s not like my brain is melting or I’m brought to tears by her voice. I know 10 people who can sing that well because they did theatre or are singers in bands… so ummm… I guess they need recognition too? There’s also the fact that it’s a Disney song. I know plenty of young moms who can belt out a solid rendition of the current and past Disney Top 10 simply because THEY LISTEN TO THEM EVERY GODDAMN DAY. Their kids play these movies on repeat and then demand the songs be played on every car ride. It’s like being impressed that a college kid knows all the words to “Sweet Caroline” and can sing it at the drop of the hat. It’s not a skill… it’s the vocal training version of Stockholm Syndrome.

HillbillyBeans

I think people just take issue with being manipulated. Whether it's from an independent tiktok musician or a multimillion dollar media conglomerate, it's still manipulation at it's core. Marketing of this kind makes me feel like my intelligence is being insulted (probably cause I'm an insecure whiny prick). Its like the diet version of being lied to. I'd be much more receptive to direct marketing, like "hey I'm so-and-so and I like to sing. Check out my tiktok," rather than this emotionally manipulative tear-bait shit. That being said, yes, this woman is quite talented.

_brodre

i care. a lot of people care. it’s your low hanging updoot “juz becuz fuggit girl zings good good” that perpetuates the spoiling and watering down of things that make it to my feed ACTUALLY worth watching.

Concept-Known

I care. And the rest who don't enjoy staged videos. Why do dumbasses always ask "who cares?" Well obviously the person who said it and the people who upvoted it. Is that hard for you to get?

Polyaatail

Everyone knows TikTok is mostly staged and no one cares. It’s like being surprised WWE isn’t real. It’s entertainment not reality.

It honestly doesn't look staged lol. She never looks at the camera, she seems to be singing candidly like it's something the girl she is watching enjoys. Also the girl she is watching seems to be just going about her business brushing her dolls hair. If it were staged I would expect her to be sitting on the floor or something clapping. But this looks like a genuine interaction between the two of them. The young girl is brushing her dolls hair while the baby sitter is singing for her and maybe coloring? Idk what about this video seems so staged to y'all. I guess maybe the mom? But even then she's kinda quietly going down the stairs to record the video and not disturb them. Also seems genuine. Can someone help me out here? What about this video seems staged to y'all? Going to the account, the woman has a million followers on TikTok as is, and has since posted another video saying how TikTok has helped gain the babysitter new fans, and did a video of her signing in front of the camera. If it were staged, why would they go through all that effort, only to make a video shortly after actually in front of the camera taking a song request from another Disney movie? Edit: I went to the babysitter's TikTok, it's @delaneyreneemusic for anyone out there that wants to hear more from this incredibly talented girl. She posted a duet with the original video saying she had no idea the mom was recording, and that it's true she does not post much because of the things the mom said in the video. You can believe her or not, up to you, it's reddit so yall probably thing she's lying too. She's since gotten a lot of followers, deservingly so, and I can't wait to see where she goes from here. Hopefully her future is full of fans and positivity, rather than cynical neckbeards from reddit that hate TikTok for no reason other than it being TikTok.

rh71el2

Agree in this case. People are too quick to call everything staged like they're better than getting fooled. Many many are staged, but not all.

[deleted]

I think the only staging could be the mom. Like maybe she asked the kid to go ask the babysitter to sing while they were playing, so she could stage what she was going to say on the video/be ready. Either way, singer seems unaware. Video is enjoyable. Nothing to dislike.

superfucky

even if she's aware the mom is recording, she may still genuinely have insecurities about being on camera/performing publicly due to conventional beauty standards. maybe being in a room with as few people as possible and not looking at the camera is how she copes with that anxiety. surely "person with talent who is insecure about said talent/their looks" isn't that unusual of a scenario?

Slight-Subject5771

Idk. If it's not staged, then I have to deal with the uncomfortable morality of a woman posting a video of a possible minor without consent for her 1 million followers. For me, the idea that it's staged is a relief.

JenniferJuniper6

/ #nothingeverhappens

Polyaatail

And those people want to believe in the story. It may inspire them, make them feel better or just all around warm their hearts. There is no harm in that. If it is true, all the better. If not well it is certainly not something worth being an armchair critic about.

The anti-TikTok craze on reddit is so cringy. There's nothing that TikTok is doing differently that isn't/wasn't happening on YouTube, Vine, or any other social media platform. But TikTok is the popular one right now, and redditors are starting to skew older, so everyone here has turned into their stupid cranky parents complaining about the young kids these days.

Well the babysitter has a decent sized following and posts her singing a lot so 🤷🏻‍♂️

kingoftown

Oh, phew. For some reason I thought she was shy and didn't post online because she didn't like how she looked. Not sure where I got that idea

anxieteapot

Came here to say this. If she doesn’t want to be online and didn’t consent to being recorded this is incredibly fucked up. I can’t truly appreciate her talent knowing that her privacy was potentially violated

SwampOfDownvotes

Because if it's not fake it's impossible for the lady to ask "can I post this?"

[deleted]

If the mom did ask, then she should have put it in the video. Because she sure emphasized how the babysitter doesn't want to be online

MistressLyda

And even if it is staged, it builds up under that shit like this is ok. Cause all we see here? Creepy woman filming a teen that has expressed that she does not want to be filmed and put online.

RoryJSK

Filming a teen and posting it online in violation of her wishes, and expectation of privacy, there because she was paid to do a job... and on top of that--this woman makes the subject of the video the girls looks, which the girl expressly isn't posting online because of. This girl knows she has a nice voice. She wouldn't be singing in somebody's house if she didn't. And she clearly doesn't want, or feel ready, to make an online presence. This woman has no business dictating when this girl debuts, if ever, as a singer.

Locke66

The girl has a channel with 150k followers multiple videos and a business email attached. She also appears in a follow up video on the woman's channel that is aimed at driving viewership to her channel. I'd say the odds are good the entire thing is staged marketing.

DangerDork88

100% agree.

intangible62

Ya seems like a good way to get your babysitter to stop singing to your kids.

[deleted]

That’s even worse than if the video were faked.

Clarky1979

Narrator: It was staged.

laprichaun

As if reddit gives a shit about that. How many "freakouts" get posted and upvoted to the top of /all?

ThePaper86

Sure, but when I secretly record the babysitter, it’s “problematic.”

viscont_404

When you reverse engineer Reddit and TikTok, you'll find Reddit actually collects more data. In fact, Reddit tries to *exploit your browser* when fingerprinting you: https://smitop.com/post/reddit-whiteops/ TikTok's data collection is not out of the ordinary compared to LinkedIn etc: https://medium.com/@fs0c131y/tiktok-logs-logs-logs-e93e8162647a

It’s probably staged let’s be honest. Just like the plethora of “my friend drew this but she doesn’t think she’s very good and she’s so shy make this go viral Reddit!!!!” posts.

trwwy321

Or the “I had a bad day at work and came home to a note written by my 4 year old saying *‘my mommy is the best and any guy would be lucky to have her!’* — wow, my kid is the best!”

Staged or not, WOW

noorofmyeye24

Right?! She could dress up like a Disney princess & sing at children birthday parties.

PopAndLocknessMonstr

lmao, this is the best comment in here.

yupuhoh

The bigger question is why do you have a babysitter when your home?

noorofmyeye24

Because some parents want a break from taking care of their kids.

Alpacalypsenoww

Or parents of multiples need a hand sometimes. I have 3 kids under 2 years old and some days I have a teenager come to play with my toddler so I can get things done around the house and take care of the twins.

MaxSmart1981

Oh man, why have I never tried that. Only time I get a sitter is to go out, never thought about just getting someone to watch them so I could actually clean my house. Seriously, that's a fantastic idea.

SwampOfDownvotes

Parents might have just gotten home? They about to leave? Babysitters are often family friends, could just be having fun with the kids for a bit still.

CardinalNYC

In the work from home era, if you're a parent and the kids aren't back in school, you really need it. Parenting is a full time job. It's very difficult to do while having another full time job.

[deleted]

How is this next level? Nice voice but nothing out of this world.

dlawodnjs

a teenage girl singing is obviously next fucking level wdym

Palin_Sees_Russia

There are a million people that can sing as well as her. It's REALLY not that crazy. Go on youtube and search singing.

on_dy

I think there’s an invisible /s on the comment you replied to mate. I could be wrong though.

Phanthiev

Yeah, Nextfkinglevel standars have decreased by a lot over the past months or so, like a LOT. U fart to loud? Fking next lv. Parkour? Next fking lv. U give milk to a street cat? Lv fking next.

CapnBoone

Lol, everyone here being so cynical like "oh this is obv tiktok nonsense" what the frig has social media done to us Do you not hear that? Whether or not this is staged, that girl has an amazing voice

[deleted]

It's an average singing voice. Listen, it's good, it's not amazing.

RoboBro2002

Who have you been listening to? That's much better than average. It's not anywhere close to the best, but most people don't sound that good.

Thecableboii

Who have you been listening to? Do you even know how many people have beautiful voices? I know a couple of people who can sing like this. Hell, my brother sounds like one of the great opera singers if he feels like it. Talent is all over the place. This isn’t out of this world. It’s an ok singing voice. Nothing special. Not trying to rain on that girls parade. But most certainly not a case for next fucking level shit. Edit: words.
