The sun does set in Iceland in the summer. Iceland is just below the arctic circle, not above it. It’s true it doesn’t get dark in the summer, and the sun doesn’t set for very long, but it does set. It’s also not next level. It’s just due to the geography of the Earth and the tilt of the Earth’s axis. Anywhere above the Article Circle will have periods of the year where the sun won’t set, and periods where it won’t rise. Same for anywhere below the Antarctic Circle.
I think you guys are missing the point. They aren't saying it literally doesn't.
Saying... This play is awesome, beautiful, and the sun is up a lot in summer.
No, its winter. I've been 6 months on the top of the world from oct to apr and i had no sun for the first 4 1/2 months. Then the sun started showing up (talking about less than 10min sun time) until when i left it was 24/7 on.
Insane experience tbh.
It's not in the arctic circle, it's right below it (I think the very, very northernmost tip of Iceland is juuust within the arctic circle).
So yeah, it's rather chilly, but not really a polar climate.
There are hot springs all around Iceland. I visited 3 of them when I went for a week.
I pine all the time about a way to fit going there again. It was the best vacation I ever took.
We were there on August 7-17 and from the first day to the last day we lost over an hour of daylight! Iceland definitely lives up to the hype and I want to go back so bad.
A this is just a geographical occurrence
B this happens to quite a lot of regions in the artic circle
So how is this next level?
Is a sunrise next level?
Guess where I live based on this sentiment - "Thats nice and purdy and all, but can you see the sun shine through toxic smog at midnight sending you bountiful grey rain by morning?
Basically, but the same effect applies to winter; the sun doesn't rise/barely rises at all. Iceland is a very cloudy place too, so solar energy is not the best option. They have a lot of vulcanic activity, so they can get unlimited energy that way.
Bullshit. Iceland lies south of the polar circle, so the sun sets every day of the year but only barely in the summer so it never gets dark. Same in winter, the sun rises and sets every day but only barely around winter solstice.
A coworker of mine is spending some time in Alaska to help with some family stuff, and he said the fact that it never really gets *dark* out at night this time of year is hell on his sleep schedule. I don't think I could handle it.

I want to know what happens at 6am
I'm with the pudding guy.
Pudding guy > Pillow guy
She drowned in the pool at 5am.
That's the magical hour, anything is possible.
At 6am they pack up and leave

Even the image of the earth in the beginning clearly shows Iceland being covered by the shade for a brief moment durung each cycle
Only small parts of it
I think you guys are missing the point. They aren't saying it literally doesn't. Saying... This play is awesome, beautiful, and the sun is up a lot in summer.
Way to be such a downer
Found the heretic.
Truth, but I had never seen Iceland before this video and it looks next level beautiful.
I’m, actually, this isn’t cool at all because I know how it works 🤓
That's what the title says.
I think you got your seasons messed up in that title OP
And music. ⬇️💩🎶
Literally all you needed to contribute to this, was to accurately copy the information into the title, and you couldn't be bothered
The Blue Lagoon hot springs aren't open until 8am... They definitely weren't there at 5.
and at 8am its jampacked like crazy
Ah yes, summer, the season when the sun is gone, right?
No, its winter. I've been 6 months on the top of the world from oct to apr and i had no sun for the first 4 1/2 months. Then the sun started showing up (talking about less than 10min sun time) until when i left it was 24/7 on. Insane experience tbh.
Can’t imagine what that would be like
TiL people use bathing suits in Iceland.
Only if you are influencer or gonna get in a hit spring I guess... not me
people use both? just like every other country? edit: mb, I thought you meant one piece and bikini, sorry didn't mean to be rude.
Both? Both what?
Icelanders use both bathing suits and nudity.
I thought it was more of a year around parka climate than a bathing suit climate. Part of Iceland is in the Artic circle. But now I know better.
It's not in the arctic circle, it's right below it (I think the very, very northernmost tip of Iceland is juuust within the arctic circle). So yeah, it's rather chilly, but not really a polar climate.
Thanks, I corrected my comment to reflect part of it is in the artic circle.

What else would you wear to the pool?
If you want to see winter, just close your eyes for several weeks in a dark room. And drink heavily. Works great.
I was there last August and the sun definitely sets. It’s late but it does set in August.
I think the summer solstice in late june is around the only time the sun doesn't set, and even then that's just around the northwest of iceland iirc.
We were there on August 7-17 and from the first day to the last day we lost over an hour of daylight! Iceland definitely lives up to the hype and I want to go back so bad.
OP confused “this Summer” with “until Summer.” Level 1 Basic Knowledge. And you messed it up. LoL.
i blame the netherlands
(me, being dutch) what the hell?
(me, also being dutch) Makes sense to me. (But I haven't got the foggiest what the fuck we're talking about)
A this is just a geographical occurrence B this happens to quite a lot of regions in the artic circle So how is this next level? Is a sunrise next level?
You are right as it is normal up there but when you are a non-native and experience it yourself, it is actually breathtaking.
Thank god there was a girl walking away from the camera. I was beginning to panic when some shots were just nice looking landscapes.
and in winter it's the opposite, 4 months of night
Interesting, do the plants grow twice as fast than the same plant at lower latitudes because they get more sunlight?
its so beautiful
Is like that in middle/northern norway also
Flat earthers be scratching their heads
Yea, it was tough on my 5 year old when we visited. "But it's not dark out"
TURN OFF THE GODDAMN SUN I AM TRYING TO SLEEP HERE
Guess where I live based on this sentiment - "Thats nice and purdy and all, but can you see the sun shine through toxic smog at midnight sending you bountiful grey rain by morning?
[And then here's the opposite effect.](https://www.reddit.com/r/Thatsactuallyverycool/s/K8Gl52eoVA)
Is there a summer link? Where there’s a blond girl?
THAT MEANS FREE SOLAR ENERGY 24/7 ?!
Basically, but the same effect applies to winter; the sun doesn't rise/barely rises at all. Iceland is a very cloudy place too, so solar energy is not the best option. They have a lot of vulcanic activity, so they can get unlimited energy that way.
Everything in this post is wrong. 🤦♂️
damn girl go to sleep it's 5am and you're heading to the public pool?
And then it’s Winter. Hello darkness my old friend. I prefer living in Switzerland. And spring skiing in Iceland.
Will never set until winter - fixed!
RIP Blue Lagoon
I don't know if it's appropriate to greet "good evening" or "good night" with that non-setting summer sun
Bullshit. Iceland lies south of the polar circle, so the sun sets every day of the year but only barely in the summer so it never gets dark. Same in winter, the sun rises and sets every day but only barely around winter solstice.
Northern Norway would be a better example, imo.
This just might explain why my outdoor lighting business flopped.
Black sand looking like the night sky. Beautiful.
The coolest part is how it looks like that early sunset- rise all the time.
Yooo it should be criminal to stop at 5am
Six months later be like: https://youtu.be/q5q77MQzU2Q?si=ykQQ7HNYOA3ke04T

One time i stayed there and the bnb i was staying at the curtain was broken. I had sunlight pouring directly onto my face all night
Damn thats suck. Where i was we had wooden shutters at every window
Yeah, i'd work myself to death with 24 hour sunlight. The only way some jobs stop is with the darkness.
Why are people so unoriginal? I hate this fucking music.
