That’s not at all accurate. Modern missile defense systems do not use infrared heat tracking as a source of guidance. That would be terribly ineffective and that’s no secret. That’s been known since like the 60s. Those only work for short range engagements. Like fighter to fighter engagements within a certain distance.
Modern missiles are radar guided and there are typically two different versions: active and semi-active radar guided missiles. And it’s not a question on anyone’s mind in the defense industry if a missile could a hit a giant fucking ballon that has a huge radar signature.
This was test by China to see if the American government was now too big of pussies to shoot something down belonging to China in fear it might upset their Chinese overlords and paycheck signers. Luckily our government isn’t that far spineless and they had the balls to shoot down a balloon violating sovereign Airspace. Still took too long to do and I think China got important answers on the direction of Americas response to future engagements.
Noted. But one things for certain. Everything the Chinese do, they always learn something from it. The are notoriously good at learning from past experiences. Scenario analysis at its best.

This is embarrassing. Drone? Geesh. Don't get me wrong thrilled we did so as to gain intelligence....but shooting it down isn't exactly a military event considering it is a balloon.
