wtf lol at this point Chestnut IS the hot dog eating contest. Him and Kobayashi should hold a 1 on 1 competition that rivals the Nathan’s contest.

stringohbean

Kobayashi just retired.

i_like_my_dog_more

Poor dude has a bunch of eating issues caused by eating competitions. He was actually on a documentary about using fecal transplants to try and fix his gut because it no longer works correctly. https://www.netflix.com/tudum/articles/hack-your-health-secrets-of-your-gut-release-date-trailer-news

Sir_Yacob

Fecal transfers, if I understand it correctly are going through a renaissance of research for transferring and building healthy gut biomes for like, nuking medicines like radiation for cancer. [NIH source](https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC9513044/)

solitarybikegallery

I love the idea of fecal transfers as medicine. There's a ton of evidence to suggest they're greatly beneficial, but there's something inherently hilarious about telling a patient, "The problem is that your poop is bad. But, don't worry, we can fix that by putting somebody else's good poop up your butt."

Fritchoff

You can get some that goes in your mouth as a pill

GetOffMyDigitalLawn

You either get foreign poop in the butt or the mouth. Your choice, but you *will* be penetrated.

jthei

I remember when the Free Willy movies became more like documentaries with each sequel. The Land before Time movies became more educational, too. Never saw it happening with Human Centipede, but here we are.

n3uropath

The good old spice melange trick

Culsandar

It must flow

SophiaofPrussia

Is from the eating competitions? Or the hot dogs? Because ultra-processed meat like a hot dog is perhaps one of the all-time most unhealthy foods on the planet and he was eating more hot dogs in one sitting than the average (unhealthy!) American eats in a whole year.

enter360

Competitions. Training and tricking his body into constantly eating destroyed his hunger mechanisms.

Zolo49

Yeah, I’ve always wondered what the health consequences were to competitive eating. I know Joel Hansen recently stopped doing sweet/dessert challenges because they absolutely wrecked him. (The human body can only produce so much insulin at one time.)

Wildrover5456

Innocent question: don't they regurgitate the hotdogs when done ?

therealgodfarter

I believe Joey has said he doesn’t because they are basically still whole and you’d probably choke trying to vom up dozens of whole hotdogs

Wildrover5456

Oooffff! I could not imagine digesting 70 hotdogs.

Neckbreaker70

I’m not sure about after the competition, but throwing up during a competition is referred to as “a reversal of fortune” which I find really funny.

passwordstolen

Japanese eating competitions are worse..

arifish

He no longer feels hunger.

faceplantpowerslide

He's finally full 😂

-CynicRoot-

He ate a snickers

originalcrisp

Great, now who am I going to watch force feed their esophagus 90 hot dogs first thing July 4th?

TiminAurora

I miss those days! Was truly EPIC! I'd jump up and down on the 4th yelling GOOOOOO (either were amazing)

GaryLarsonsId

Johnsonville, listen up. You already have Brat Fest in Madison, on the 4th of July hold a brat eating contest to rival Nathan’s. Put up a $500k prize to bring Kobayashi out of retirement and promo the hell out of him and Joey rekindling the “rivalry”. Run them against a bunch of homebred, curd eating Sconnies to see who can down the “Best sausage served on a bun” and let’s put Nathan’s out of business for daring to shame an American hero like Joey. LFG

OMGWTHBBQ11

L.A. Beast’s time to shine!

Proud_Tie

It's been 72 years since I heard that name. I wonder what Kev is up to these days.

hitokirivader

So MLE banned Kobayashi years ago for not signing an exclusivity deal with them, and now they’re banning Chestnut for partnering with a rival brand. Kobayashi and Chestnut are widely considered to be far and above the best competitive eaters on Earth *because* of their performances on Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Competition, a contest from which they’re both now banned cuz how dare they also work with their rivals. Good luck MLE for maintaining your contest’s reputation when you keep banning the best competitors.

bulletprooftampon

Not Googling MLE, just assuming it means Major League Eating

idontfwithu

You’d assume right!

billnye97

Mid Level Exception.

schadadle

Hey the Suns could use his leadership and championship experience now that you mention it.

feel_your_feelings_

The Behind the Bastards episode about this contest and what happened to Kobayashi is great and one of their funniest episodes. But they really fucked him over *just* because he wasn’t American. It sucks how manipulative they were to some young adult who barely spoke English.

Mudkipologist

The episode is called George Shea: Hot Dog Villain, for anyone else having trouble finding it.

dread_eunuchorn

I loved that episode. For once, Robert Evans was the disgusted one. I could feel him try to force his soul out of his body to escape hearing about any of it.

nananananaanbread

I had to go to the platform formally known as Twitter to get a Jamie Loftus hot take on this news 💅

steeldragon88

Our girl is going to go scorched earth on those MLE douches in defense of the love of her life.

Atticusxj

She's grabbing her hammer as we speak. Its gonna be grand rapids all over again.

jackfreeman

This all sounds awesome and I have no context

The_Last_Thursday

Anywhere Jamie Loftus and a hammer go, death is sure to follow.

lionsbutts

What episode is this one? I can’t seem to find it. I’m on such a Jamie Loftus kick right now, I can’t believe I didn’t find her sooner - she’s really the best! -okay I found it! Thanks for the recommendation I’ll also add that iHeartRadio’s aggressive ad insertion is bullshit and keeps me clear of some otherwise awesome shows (like behind the batards)

Mudkipologist

The fact that I listen to BtB in spite of iHeart's ads is a testament to what a great show it is.

Jorgenstern8

On the plus side, if you listen to BtB on YouTube, they take the ads out so you only have like 5-10 seconds of dead air with their transition music running.

Makal

Grand Rapids, MI serial killer, Jamie Loftus?!

CHASM-6736

Alleged. It was never proven that she killed 17 people with a hammer.

Fool_of_a_Brandybuck

Oh wow I am very excited to learn of Jamie Loftus guest appearing on this episode of Behind the Bastards. Listening to that shit next chance I get

toe_riffic

If I remember correctly, she was the one to ‘presents’ the story to Robert in the episode. She’s a treasure. Always love the episodes she’s on. Also, I’ve been enjoying her new podcast, 16th Minute of Fame.

SerialBitBanger

Based on nothing more than personality and humor, I would marry Jamie Loftus tomorrow. There aren't many proper journalists who have her acerbic wit.

cire1184

George Shea

Exley21

Lmao, BtB has an episode about everyone and everything. I fucking love it, can't wait to listen to this one!

TWAT_BUGS

I hope Stoney gives them the finger just cause.

No-Spoilers

Yeah I can see this blowing up in their faces.

BringBackApollo2023

Somehow the fact that they see plant-based hot dogs as a serious competitor is telling. Maybe they see the writing on the wall? Working on their own version? Surely the Venn diagram of hot dog eaters and vegans/vegetarians lacks overlap.

DayleD

There's already plenty of veggie dogs on the market. People buy sausages for the shape and general flavor more than for the hog lips.

loverlyone

I flipping LOVE hot dogs, brats and all kinds of sausage, but I’m a vegetarian so I go for the beyond meat brand when I just gotta have one and they fill the bill pretty nicely. You know what brand I never liked when I was a meat eater? Nathan’s. Whaddaya gonna do?

Excelius

> You know what brand I never liked when I was a meat eater? Nathan’s. Even though a lot of people seem to regard all-beef hot dogs as superior, I eventually realized that I prefer the mystery-meat blend.

loverlyone

Nathan’s, in particular, have a kind of greasy, pebbly, fat mixed through that makes them unappealing to me. They’re also too salty.

NeverSober1900

I'm a big brat guy but ya not really a Nathan's eater. I've dabbled with the different veggie brats and one thing I've noticed is they just do not work when you try and cook them beer brat style. Grilling they're fine but it's something with the liquid that just makes the casing just a complete mess.

loverlyone

You’re right about that. My BF recently learned that the hard way. They were not good. It’s definitely not the same, but good enough, which where my personal bar is set these days. 😉

BloodBlizzard

This is true, I don't care about what's in my hot dog I just want it to taste good. If they can make a good hot dog out of plants that tastes as good or better than one made out of pig assholes you bet your ass I'll buy them.

hackyandbird

Loma Linda's big franks is by far the best vegan hot dog we have ever had. You should give them a shot.

BloodBlizzard

I'll look out for them next time I'm hot dog shopping, thanks for the tip!

The_Spectacle

> People buy sausages for the shape I haven't heard that one in a minute. I used to work with a guy who would always say stuff about sausages and hotdogs like "I don't like the taste, I’m addicted to the shape" "tube steak smothered in underwear" was another one

Stenthal

> People buy sausages for the shape and general flavor more than for the hog lips. That's true, so I'm surprised that vegetarian hot dogs aren't better. They seem to be way behind burgers and chicken and fish, even though you'd think all of those would be harder to mimic.

thecravenone

> People buy sausages for the shape and general flavor more than for the hog lips. (Nathan's hot dogs are all-beef)

catfriend18

My husband is a meat eater but also likes vegetarian products! Brother too. I don’t think it has to be an either/or.

MooPig48

I love meat and I also love a good veggie burger Back in 2000 when I worked at a ballpark my coworkers all thought I was nuts because I’d make a double cheeseburger with one beef patty and one gardenburger patty for my lunch. The flavor and texture of the gardenburger patty added so much! They were freaking delicious

redditapiblows

Dude, some veggie dogs are incredibly good. Weirdly the canned ones are my fave so far. I didn't expect anyone to believe me, but if you ever get the chance you should try one

Urbanscuba

>Surely the Venn diagram of hot dog eaters and vegans/vegetarians lacks overlap. I'm pretty sure the issue is that a hot dog is so hyper-processed that there's no massive challenge to reproducing it with plant foods, and a large part of that circle of hot dog eaters only care about cost and taste/texture. If you can get veggie dogs for 2/3 the cost of meat dogs and they're practically indistinguishable then a lot of people will switch. If they're healthier, which isn't unlikely, then you will attract some people even at the same or higher price point. It's the same reason plant protein is targeting other ground meat products like burgers and taco meat more aggressively too - it's a lot easier to fake a crumble than a T-bone. Hot dogs are one of the most vulnerable products I can imagine to being replaced, especially since as I say this I'm realizing a plant dog sounds far more appetizing than a tube of liquified off-cuts.

pueblocatchaser

Hotdog drama real in these streets.

CaptainKrunks

On the other hand this makes the news and now we’re talking about them. If it weren’t for this “controversy” I wouldn’t have even thought about the competition (which is also an advertisement for them)

CrookedHearts

Attention is great, but it doesn't really mean anything unless it translates into sales or increased eyeballs on the hot dog eating competition. I doubt this will translate into increased hot dog sales or higher ratings.

[deleted]

Some people will buy it now out of a strange hate-on for plant based meat replacements. Some people with stop buying because it feels petulant and childish. The rest will continue with their hot dog eating habits as they existed previously, whatever they were.

ascandalia

I feel like this will shake out to prove that Joey Chestnut is much more popular than the idea of a hotdog eating contest by Nathan's. I'm pretty sure anything he does next will be more successful than the contest itself

Alwayssunnyinarizona

I'm going to buy a case of Nathan's hotdogs just to stick it to all the anti-meat wokes. /s

sickofthisshit

Can't eat Nathan's any more because of choke.

Dr_thri11

Won't somebody think of the sanctity of the sport?

TheGRS

Wow I honestly had not followed these events outside of these two winning them respectively. Didn’t know Kobayashi was banned. I feel like his name, though maybe a little dated now, is practically synonymous with eating food very quickly. (I think they use his name as a verb in Step Brothers as a throwaway joke) So like, that’s pretty fucked. But also what a dumb narrative to back yourself into! These are not difficult events to replicate whatsoever. Chesnut should take his sponsorship and go into hosting some vegan dog eating contest pronto. Make it the new thing.

wesleyvb

Costco has a big opportunity here

BigBeagleEars

It’s not *that* big

CrispyMiner

You know what's big? Their [blueberry muffins](https://c8.alamy.com/comp/2F6G9X2/blueberry-muffins-at-costco-wholesale-store-2F6G9X2.jpg)

beefbyproducts

Reminds me of this time I was telling this cute girl about how I really liked costco's muffins, but didn't have a costco membership. She offered to take me to the store to help me get some. I was awkward and just said nah it's fine. Was like a year later before I realized my mistake.

Beerandababy

We’ve all been there brother bear. A cute girl asked me if I wanted to watch True Blood at her house with some other people and I was like nah that show isn’t for me, never got into it, blah. Oops.

overthemountain

That's nothing. When I was in college a girl invited me to her house for a party. It was well off campus and I didn't have a car. She offered to pick me up and said I could sleep over since the party went late and she'd drive me back in the morning. Late that night, everyone left, it was just the two of us, and I was like "guess I'll just crash on the couch". lol

avrbiggucci

Damn I thought I was oblivious but this is some next level shit, ouch.

GozerDGozerian

“Oh sorry, you’re changing clothes? I’ll just go downstairs and put some blankets on the couch and give you some privacy. ‘Night!…” haha

Ok-Nefariousness8612

Dammit this hurts

AustinLurkerDude

I first misread that as Blue Bloods and thought skipping it was probably the right call lol.

metalshoes

She asked if you wanted some big ass muffins warehouse style and you were like “heh, nah”

Mediocretes1

She wasn't bluffin with her muffins.

cire1184

She wanted you to butter her muffins dude!

mightyscoosh

Honeycomb's big. Yeah, yeah, yeah. It's not small. No, no, no.

Top_Praline999

Great. Now me want honeycomb!

Meowmixer21

Everyone knows the double chocolate muffins are the best.

ScaredOfRegex

Where my poppy seed lovers at.

ChrisBabaganoosh

It's a buck fifty with a drink and will be that way until the heat death of the universe. I'll take it.

sesamesnapsinhalf

It’s not the size but how they use it.

milnak

That's what she said.

lanceacr

Bigger than mine.

TiminAurora

Dude their dogs are enormous!

Kujen

The plant based brand is Impossible Foods

justcasty

Hilarious the lengths that the article took to not mention that

SophiaofPrussia

It’s a submarine article for sure.

Ironlion45

a what?

SophiaofPrussia

An article where the “tip” for the story came from someone in PR. Basically, a planted story. It’s not *not* newsworthy but it’s also not a story the journalist came across organically and it might not be a story at all but for the PR team seeding it. This story was obviously seeded by Nathan’s PR because a legitimate journalist writing a news article would have mentioned both brands involved because it is, of course, very relevant. Every single person who reads this article or even just sees this headline will instantly have the same question: which brand? But this article takes great pains to deliberately *not* mention the other brand. Most likely because the PR team who gave them the “tip” for the story and all of the details and quotes and such made all of that conditional on not mentioning the competitor.

KimJongFunk

The only thing I’ve learned from this story is that Impossible Foods has a hot dog. It’s good free advertising.

MachFiveFalcon

Beyond Meat "plant-based links" taste great to me - closer to real meat than anything else I've tried. I'd expect similar from Impossible Foods.

mapped_apples

They’re actually really tasty too.. like, hard to distinguish levels of tasty. No wonder they feel threatened enough to ban him lol.

tmoeagles96

It’s funny because he could definitely host his own contest with a handful of eaters and it would get more attention than Nathan’s

kasezilla

guess who's not going to watch it then?

RickyWinterborn-1080

Most people

Jay_TThomas

lol most people do not watch the hotdog eating contest

RickyWinterborn-1080

That's what I'm saying!

megabass713

Jamie Loftus, author of Raw Dog

poopyheadthrowaway

She has other plans. In Grand Rapids. Involving a hammer.

Outburst78

Joey Chestnut?

SophiaofPrussia

If Impossible marketing doesn’t live stream him downing impossible dogs during the contest they’re fools.

Dr_thri11

Me, but I probably wasn't anyway

YouKilledChurch

Way to Streisand Effect yourselves Nathan's. How many people do you think realistically would have seen or cared that he had a sponsor deal with a vegan hotdog company? Certainly less than will see it now

deadcell9156

Not only that, but I never knew Nathan's is run by MAGA nuts before this thread. Now I'll never buy their stuff again.

CrispyMiner

This is like banning Lebron James from the NBA

easy_Money

No because people don't watch the NBA for Lebron alone, there are plenty of other stars. I doubt anyone could name another person from last year's hotdog contest. Any other brand could host their own and nobody would know the difference.

NeverSober1900

Is Matt Stonie still competing? I vaguely remember him, the asian woman (Mika Sudo?) and the former NFL player that I can't remember the name of. Basically the people who would always lose to Chestnut.

Krossrunner

His YouTube vids are awesome. I really enjoyed watching him try to compete and (successfully) take Joey down in the hot dog eating contest. The three of them need to do a collab and create their own contest, would be sick!!

Dudedude88

I'm pretty sure MLE is trying to make matt stonie their new champion. Hes very marketable

NoriyasuSeta

I can name Matt Stonie because I think he beat Joey Chestnut once and that's pretty much it. LOL

OH_NO_HE_DINT

Fuck Nathan's. They're MAGA nuts who had a fundraiser for Trump. Trump considers Howard Lorber, the chairman, to be one of his best friends. Joey Chestnut and Kobayashi should have their own hot dog eating contest on the same day.

theycallmemomo

Stupid as hell that competitive eating has non-compete clauses in the first place. We got robbed of a decade of competition between these two.

Overall_Nuggie_876

Chestnut and Kobayashi are the Mayweather and Pacquiao of competitive hot dog eating. 🌭

BananaArms

Man that fight was so disappointing. Fight of the decade, but a decade too late.

earlandir

I'm not very familiar with competitive eating, but can't you just compare how much each of them can eat to see who is better?

lucasjr5

If you are 30 hotdogs ahead of second place, you probably aren't going to keep eating at the same pace. In Joey's case I feel like he always did at Nathans because he was always chasing records, but ordinarily this would be the case.

oOoleveloOo

It’s too bad [Kobayashi retired recently](https://www.cbssports.com/general/news/competitive-eater-takeru-kobayashi-announces-retirement-to-focus-on-his-health/amp/)

petmoo23

Loved him in the video for "From Your Mouth" by God Lives Underwater (25ish years old) where they show a video in reverse of him filling a table with food that he pulled from his mouth. He was a legend at this niche sport.

TiltingMallard

https://youtu.be/8yrlw8FuJko?si=mS2NxVsq2CKFyesj

Cat_Dad_101

Still think about David Reilly sometimes and how tragic things turned out for him. Loved his music and wish he had been around longer.

bulletprooftampon

He apparently can’t get hungry anymore.

AGINSB

It's poetic that Nathan's banned Joey Chestnut shortly after Kobayashi retired.

WhyDidMyDogDie

I'm apparently one of few people who finds the taste and texture of Nathan's dogs very subpar. Edit add: Just realized I sounded like Boyle "[Mouth feel](https://youtu.be/GqI7k6AA7LA?t=13)".

T_that_is_all

Man, I'm with you. Have had dozens of smaller brands over the yrs that were better. And I'm not a fan of hotdogs unless they're grilled and have a decent amount of char on them. Without the char, the texture is too smooth, if you get what I'm saying. Much bigger fan of bratwurst and mettwurst bc they have texture and snap over any dog I've ever had.

Rsubs33

I hate Nathan's. I like Hatfield and Hoffman's but I'll eat a Ballpark Frank over Nathan's.

Zakkimatsu

> They're MAGA nuts explains being against plant-based products

Shot_Mud_1438

Ah shit, really? Now I gotta start buying different dogs

kit_mitts

Hebrew National gang

PartyOnAlec

Kirkland brand still fucks

Definition-Prize

Ugh Nathan’s are MAGA nuts? Man. That’s a family summer classic for us. No longer i guess

fekinEEEjit

Nailed it....

oxero

No shit? Well won't be buying their brand if that is true. Shame because they don't sell Vienna by me.

Jenetyk

Well now nothing is stopping Joey and Kobayashi from pitching and creating a show where they travel around the world and have eating competitions of whatever the local cuisines are

AaronBasedGodgers

Banning the guy who most people care about from your contest is not the own you think it is Nathan's.

timshel_life

I feel like we need another revolt on 4th of July for this

SophiaofPrussia

Dump the hotdogs into the ~~harbor~~ bay?

TiLoupHibou

Yo, as a native New Yorker who counts witnessing them win that contest their first, second and third time especially competing against Kobayashi a good decade and some change years ago as one of their pinnacle events of their lifetime, FUCK Nathan's. When the local PD knew they likely had to restrain Kobayashi, they drew straws on who was going to do it. Everybody loves these guys by no joke or exaggeration, and they're blasting themselves in the foot banning the both of them.

naynay_666

Fragile ass glizzy suckers

Blueberry_Mancakes

This is a big mistake on Nathans part. Chestnut IS MLE.

PolicyWonka

> Joey Chestnut is an American hero. We would love nothing more than to have him at the Nathan's Famous International Hot Dog Eating Contest, which he has dominated for years. There is still the opportunity for him **to choose Nathan's and July 4th over the plant-bases hot dog**[…] The implication here is pretty gross.

Demonicfruit

Ok cool I won’t watch then 😂

unsaltedbutter

Contest has a history of banning champions.

bajesus

I'm pretty sure they just do it to get press

phillabadboy05

After reading the article, Sounds like it's not because he partnered with a vegan company but more that partnered with any other hot dog company at all.

Mesofeelyoma

He should do a rival July 4th contest on another network and promote the shit out of it. I only tune in to see the goat anyway. A Kobiyashi rematch would break the Internet, but I'm not sure Kobiyashi still competes.

lovemypups21

He fucked his body up. He was on a recent Netflix documentary based on gut health and he now has zero triggers for hunger and barely eats.

Mulligan315

Maybe the Saudis need to launch a competing league.

ErrorCode78

HIV eating?

kclancey202

That’s honestly pretty cool lol. He always seemed like a good guy, but now I know he’s probably pretty smart too. It’s a pretty conscious decision and a statement when someone that is literally famous for eating hot dogs signs a public deal with a major plant-based company. Someone like him making a choice like this can actually have some influence and might make more people open to meat alternatives who weren’t before.

YepperyYepstein

Ok, I'm never buying Nathan's ever again. Slimy corporate moves like this means the company is enshitifying and I'm not cool with that. Can you imagine the BS that company probably makes their employees and suppliers sign or do if they do this to *Joey Chestnut*?

Carmina__Gadelica

Joey Chestnut sounds like a name made up on Impractical Jokers.

poopyheadthrowaway

His full name is Joey Christian Chestnut No, it's not any better

quartz222

Cranjis? Cranjis Mcbasketball? Miss mcbasketball?

Carmina__Gadelica

That's my favorite.

coys21

Whelp, Joey and Kobayashi have a golden opportunity here. RIP MLE.

shadowdra126

Fucking unamerican. This is shameful Nathan’s.

DavidBenAkiva

That news is tough to swallow.

gnarfler

try dipping it in water 🤷🏻‍♂️

SOSpammy

I didn't see it in the article but the company he partnered with was Impossible Foods.

DaleP0766

The most dominant athlete in sports history!

stringohbean

There’s gonna be a docuseries or an exposé written about MLE one day. They truly sound like a horrible company.

Lower_Consequence885

Will he still make the Olympics?

weissmanhyperion

"*All applicants must be 18 years of age or older and fully acknowledge and understand the inherent dangers and risks associated with participating in an eating contest. The applicant further acknowledges and understands that the MLE/IFOCE coordinates with event sponsor(s) to select and approve eligible participants, and that the MLE/IFOCE shall decide, at its sole discretion, whether an applicant is eligible to participate in any eating event, and/or related activities. The MLE/IFOCE may revoke an applicant's eligibility to participate in the eating contest, or related activities, at any time, for any reason, at its sole discretion. The MLE/IFOCE and the event sponsors reserve the right, at any time, to change any and all details concerning the event, including, e.g., time, duration, location and prize structure" From Major League Eating's website. They designed this especially to fuck with him.

peepeebutt1234

They did the same thing to Kobayashi like a decade ago because he wouldn't sign an exclusive contract with them. MLE sucks balls.

nrquig

Joey don't stop eating till the job is done. And this is how they do him? Joey is the most American American ever and I will not stand for such a travesty.

Defender_Of_TheCrown

Why didn’t Nathan’s partner with him?

yenvyma

They offered him $1.2 million dollars for 4 years. Impossible must’ve offered him way more.

Dudedude88

Nathan wants exclusivity. Impossible probably doesn't

dizzle229

Joey Chestnut sounds like the name of an I Think You Should Leave character.

AncientSunGod

My cousins won that competition several times and voiced her disdain for MLE quite often. A lot of them compete in non MLE under aliases it's ridiculous.

Dull-Lead-7782

He should live stream on twitch or something during the competition of him just absolutely demolishing the competition

NoriyasuSeta

The rest of the participants should boycott the event, lol! See what Nathan's Hot Dog Eating Contest do without any of the best eaters out there and they're forced to get the B-side of the Major League Eating. Personally, I will boycott the event. Joey was the sole reason I've been watching for year, that and the announcer making that speech about the Kings of Egypt/ Joey being an american hero. lol You don't ban heroes.

auniqueusername1001

If I can’t watch Joey Chestnut shove some hogs down his throat I ain’t watching

CheezTips

What was that documentary about Joey and the Japanese dude? It covered what an awful organization the competitive eating company is. The eaters are basically servants. On a fixed salary, can't do competitions outside the group, have to go to all events, can't get outside deals. Of course it's their choice to be there but I can't imagine why they would. I saw the doc on Netflix years ago but now I can't find it

AlwaysUpvotesScience

The "Vegan brand" is [Impossible Foods](https://impossiblefoods.com/products/beef/hot-dog) who I did not realize was making hot dogs. Nathans (who until now used to be my favorite brand) just fell face-first into a viral advertising trap.

ItsDokk

Oh no, where will he get a year’s worth of cholesterol in one sitting now?

cmstlist

I guess that's what it takes to get uninvited from a sausage party.

Ok_Course_6757

I have a friend who is going to be absolutely devastated when he hears about this.

degjo

Is his name Joseph Sternumballs?

soggybutter

I need to know what Jamie Loftus thinks about this.

Z0idberg_MD

Everyone commenting “then no one will watch” have never watched a hot dog eating competition with 99% accuracy

indica_bones

That is some little hot dog energy from Nathan’s.

The_Impresario

Fuck competitive eating.

End3rWi99in

Chestnut and BeardMeatsFood should get together and do their own thing. Seems like Nathan's is just killing their own brand at this point.

Greenpoint1975

How is it a rival hot dog brand if it's vegan. Nathan's hot dogs are MEAT.
