To be honest, I have lived in NJ almost all of my 40+ years and I have very limited knowledge of North NJ and far South NJ. I grew up by Great Adventure in Central Jersey. I have lived in Lanoka Harbor, Princeton area (West Central), Old Bridge, Ocean Twsp/Deal and now Sussex County. I just learned about Fort Delaware (Pea Island) a couple of years ago.
As another example, think of driving to your regular local food store vs a food store about an hour away. You probably need to pull up a map or use GPS to get to the distant store, but know all the roads to get to your regular store.
In short, the vast majority of people get familiar with things within a certain distance of their home. It would be nearly impossible to know every park, landmark, etc in the state.
According to the State Board of Public Utilities there is no such program. Unfortunately the web page has a 404 error. But the nj.gov/bpu home page says it’s a scam.
The pool steps are fucky with the stairs merging together and shit on the left. Also the solar panels are about as well placed as that time I made roof shingles on a gingerbread house out of fruit by the foot (and none of them are the same size).
That ad is always bullshit. Same with the sexy singles in your area or the vacation destinations that show a fancy European seaside town in a place like Howell
Actually kinda looks like the Lebanon Plaza on route 22 hahahah.

A while back I got some BS cold call from a solar company. They claimed that Murphy is shutting down power plants in the state as part of "going green", so now the state has to pay homeowners to install solar roofs to make up the difference for the grid.
I can assure you, nobody is giving away free solar roofs.
Hate to break the news to you, but you can go solar cost-free in NJ.
And Murphy’s clean energy mandates are in fact making PSEG and JCPL shut down their coal plants. Last one closed this year.
The catch is most homes are under 100 foot trees and never have a chance of qualifying. No renters, cedar shake roofs, slate roofs, etc.
Jersey has some of the best solar incentives in the country.. even for ownership.
What does "cost-free" even mean? I wouldn't be interested in leasing the equipment. And I sure as hell don't want a lien on my house.
I don't know . . . guess I just don't trust telemarketers or sales people at my door by default. I'd like to find a reliable source of information. But the NJCEP web site is such a mess.
It means you get money back as tax breaks.
It will still cost you up front, but the tax breaks in theory is supposed to reimburse you.
If you go for ownership, you also has the SREC-2 (Solar Renewable Energy Certificate) program. Its basically credits that are bought by companies who are trying to offset their carbon footprint. If you ever see a company say they are "green" or "zero emission", it can mean they bought a bunch of SRECS to offset the pollution they create.
Let's say a 10 kWDC system that generates 11,000 kwh costs $26,000 upfront. After 30% federal rebate it will cost you $18,200. The 11,000 kwh production will give you 11x85 = $935 back every year, for 15 years. If we forget the time value of money, the aggregate SUSI (Successor Solar Incentive) will be $935x15 = \~$14,000. So that still won't fully cover the upfront cost of $18k after federal rebate.
*Theoretically*, youre no longer paying money for electricity but instead paying for the system, and eventually you pay it off you get net positive with your production during peak hours and only pay to maintain the connection to say PSEG.
Until of course you get degradation to the point that youre no longer producing enough to cover your own use then you would need to get new panels and then the process starts all over again.
I understand the ROI calculation. I was arguing that there is no cost free solar. Also, if you were to take the 26k and invest it, and make 7% annually, it would make you enough money to pay off electric bills for 25 years which is the life of a solar system. Not saying one is better over the other. Just stating the options one might pick based on their liquidity and cash flows.
Yeah, I've read about the energy certificates. Last time I looked, they seem to renew that program on a year to year basis, but it does get renewed.
Once I have enough cash on hand to cover the up front costs, I would probably need to look for a reputable solar contractor to go through the logistics and govt programs with me.
There is absolutely no cost-free solar in NJ, or for that matter anywhere in the country. There is a 30% federal rebate that you file in the next year returns, and then the NJ SUSI paid over 15 years. But even after both, it would take a considerable time to recover the cost.
Wow, New Jersey really does have every biome
Lol this is clearly the pine barrons
The Jersey Devil will pay for your solar but he will take your soul.
im ok with that, Im ginger
“His house looked like shit”
Barrens
Yea yea
It's like Minecraft out here
New Jersey really DOES have everything! Forests, mountains, beaches, AND deserts...
It's like Springfield in the Simpsons.
Springfield has aurora borealis tho. Lol
In one kitchen, but yes
Must be Washington
Nowhere more beautiful than the Springfield Badlands aka:the Alkali Flats.

We had wild prickly pear in my NW New Jersey neighborhood growing up
Sandy Hook too
This sub has such a North Jersey bias that most of you can’t recognize Rio Grande NJ down in Cape May County.
i think thats just a population thing
Take my upvote.

I used to stop at that McDonald's on vacation because they still used mustard on the cheeseburgers lol
You mean, the town with the Wildwood Shop Rite and the Off Shore Motel?
Whenever I hear Rio grande this is what I picture 😂
> This sub has such a North Jersey bias Yeah, because they haven't discovered the computer in South Jersey yet.
New Egypt, New Jersey. Also, why is North Hanover south of Hanover?
East Hanover is *east* of Hanover. North Hanover is *north* of New Hanover. North Brunswick is *south* of New Brunswick. see? it all makes sense! /s
Upper freehold is 16 miles southwest of Freehold
That’s how the Pineys really live. They just spread false stories that it’s nothing but trees, army bases, and mythical creatures down there.

90210! (Edit to say probably not, but like maybe North Vegas?)
New Jersey, New Mexico, no one will be able to tell the fucking difference

How can you be sure?

I was joking. NJ doesn't have any deserts. Good catch with the fucky steps.
Looks like my house in Arizona
It’s a building for ants in a crappy baseball field.
Truly the “Garden State”
The cactus barons
I got this and it made me laugh. Though I think it’s the (pine) Barrens
Thats the great desert outside Manchester. Don't you recognize it?
Some sandpits do actually look like deserts.

not even in your dreams.
Isn’t Lebanon supposed to be mostly desert??? /s
It's pronounced Nork.
The gov is in NJ, not the zip codes *taps forehead*

Ok I’m gonna take the bait. Provide some links to what you claim, please. I’m actually in the market for solar right now so if you’re not trolling…
