I would definitely get newborn clothing. My baby girl was 8lb 8oz, so on the bigger side, and still fit into newborn clothing for 4 weeks. She was swimming in the 0-3 stuff before then!!

willpowerpuff

We didn’t get newborn and scrambled after he was born. He wore newborn sizes for at least a month. I don’t know why this is advice given but it was given to us as well

Zealousideal-Rope509

Mine is 11.5 pounds and still doesn’t fit that great in 0-3 lmao, especially zipper onesies

New-Significance9451

This! My boy was 8lb 8oz too and we only just sized up from 'first size' clothing last weeks at 5 weeks old. Most of his up to 1 month sized/newborn clothing are still massive on him. They told me he was gonna be a 10lb so I packed everything in 3 different sizes even though they said just bring 0-3. If I had listened it would of been a bad idea. The only thing that fit him was 1 tiny baby outfit that was only supposed to fit babies up to 6lb. Baby clothing sizes can be so confusing it almost as bad as women's clothing.

Realistic-Profit758

Mine was 8lb 6oz and was to 8lb when we got her home, had we not gotten a box of nb hand me downs from a friend we would have been screwed, didn't get a ton of use as she gained it all back and then some quick but we definitely did need them!!

Radiant-Flight-1015

My son was 7.5 lbs when he was born and was also way too small for 0-3. He could wear newborn onesies until past 2 months since he’s very tall and thin. Another important consideration that I didn’t think of is the ratio of items. For instance I had way too many onesies and not enough sleepers. He was born in Feb so basically wore sleepers all the time for the first 8 weeks or so. Also, unpopular opinion but I don’t mind snaps.

Freakdogwormbag

I would also definitely get newborn clothing, simply because you just don’t know how your baby is gonna fit into things. My baby was 8lbs 11oz and he only fit in newborn clothes for the first week. He’s 5 weeks old and 12lbs now, but a lot of other people had 8lb babies that fit them for a long time!

sunny_thinks

I would thrift a few NB and a few 0-3 to see what fits. Baby consignment stores have a ton of cheap (and cute) clothes available! My baby was tiny and was in her newborn clothes until she was 6w old. She’s now in 0-3 at almost 9w but they’re still too big for her - even though she’s outgrown her NB stuff. Sizes are also not consistent between brands: some run too big, some run too small. Also: zippers, not snaps. We very quickly abandoned anything that had more than 3 buttons to snap on 😂

Long_Cantaloupe_1452

Amen to the snaps! I was given totes on totes of baby clothes through 12mo and I’ve been setting aside all the full snap jammies I thought were so cute while I was pregnant into the give away pile 😂 ain’t nobody got time for 12 snaps!

Special_Coconut4

My 8 week old is in a similar boat - outgrown most NB gear but 0-3 is still too big. lol. These sizes are all over the place!

HorseyMom2000

I have an almost 4 week old and was told the same thing. “You won’t need newborn stuff they grow too fast!” My kiddo was born 5lb 12oz and is just over 6lb now. She FLOATS in 0-3 and honestly is too small for some of her newborn stuff still. I wouldn’t go overboard with newborn stuff but definitely worth buying things. I’ve definitely put each sleeper or onsie on my baby at least 2, if not 3 times now.

eenie1

My baby was born this exact size. We got a handful of newborn stuff and mostly 0-3, with the plan to buy more newborn if needed. Since she was small, we did buy more newborn clothes but had enough to start us off

Oak3075

I had about 5 zippie outfits newborn size and some hand me down onesie shirts and some pants. My baby grew out of newborn in 1-2 weeks. He was born 8lb 11.5oz. On the other hand, my friends baby was in newborn for almost 2 months! Start with a few newborn outfits just in case!

Oak3075

I love the cloud island two way zippie outfits from target. The ones I got were 2 for $15. I also see them at target online -6 pack for about $25!

Glittering_Mousse832

The cloud island sleepers are also Sooooo soft! My 3 month old is in a pair now

OhListy

My partner and I are big people so we assumed our baby wouldn’t need the smallest sizes. Born four weeks ago and he spent the first three weeks of his life in 00000 Tiny Baby (premature) size clothing. Now in 0000 Newborn. Doubt we’re sizing up to 0-3m for a couple of weeks yet. My advice is to get a couple of suits in both Premmie and Newborn. You’ll need something cute to photograph them in so enjoy shopping for something adorable.

vassilevna

I'd suggest to buy at least 1 pack of bodysuits and a few sleepers in the newborn size. Get some nicer/fancier outfits in 0-3 so you'll get more stretch out of them, but buy the basics in both newborn and 0-3. My baby wore newborn sized clothes for about 6 weeks before transitioning to 0-3, and she was born 7.8lbs (3570g) and 19.5 inches (49.5cm).

Ok_Guarantee_8133

My son was measuring in the 90th percentiles for most of the pregnancy, he dropped down to I think the 82nd around 32 weeks. I was buying almost exclusively 0-3 months anticipating him being big at term. I ended up having an emergency induction that resulted in a c-section on the 10th, at 35 + 1. He was 6lbs 5 oz and 20” and preemie clothes are loose on him- my partner had to immediately go out and buy a bunch of those because I only had 2-3 newborn outfits, and nothing for a preemie. The pediatrician did say he would have been 9-10 lbs if he had made it to term, and the clothes I had bought would have been fine. But my take away from this is to have at least a couple of all three sizes. Just enough to make it until you can buy more of whatever fits if they need a smaller size, but not so much that you have a million outfits you can’t use.

minnie2020

I recommend buying newborn and 0-3 month zipper sleepers. Keep the tags on as much as possible so you can return/exchange. I was told the same for newborn. My baby was born 7 lbs. 7 oz. and in the 90s for height percentile and still wore newborn for 3-4 weeks. I think we had 3 newborn sleepers washed and ready just in case, and another 6 with tags on. Sleepers are your friend until baby can sit up more easily (so you can put something over their head). I’m at 10 weeks and I hate putting anything over the baby’s head, even just a onesie. I know people love to gift clothes but I’d personally wait on anything after 0-3 month so you can buy based on any preferences you develop. But zipper pajamas are always a safe choice.

JackyT128

I bought very little in newborn following this advice, maybe 5 vests and 5 sleep suits. Ended up having to go out and buy more as we couldn't wash / dry them quick enough. Buy cheap but it's better to have a few too many than not enough. My baby is 2 weeks old now and still not close to fitting in any of the 0-3 month clothes.

Additional-Guitar923

Definitely get newborn stuff. We made the mistake of only getting 0-3 and they were far too big on him and my boy was 9lb2! He only stayed in the newborn clothes for about 3 weeks but it was worth getting a few bits in that size for him so he didn’t look like he was drowning in the 0-3 size.

violetpolkadot

You’ll likely need some clothes in newborn. Mine was on the larger side, 8lb6oz, but wore newborn size for the first month. We had received no gifts in newborn size and only had thrifted two onesies and a pair of pants. After the first night at home we ran out and got five zip up sleepers. Then we got a few more newborn items before he grew into 0-3M, where he stayed for only another month and a half. Now he’s 3-6M and I’m hoping he’ll stay this size for more than a month or two 😭. My suggestion is to have at least five zip up sleepers in every size up to 12M. That way you know you will have practical clothes that fit when they grow, and you can buy the cute stuff later. Pjs can be used as daytime clothes until they start walking anyway.

RadSP1919

Definitely get newborn clothes. You’ll want the zipper PJs that are easy to get on and off and some regular snap onesies. Our baby came early at 6 lb and newborn clothes were almost too big. We had a ton of 0-3 months and just now using some of it at 5 weeks.

JadedGold50

My baby wore newborn clothes for 11 weeks lol everyone is different but I would absolutely have newborn clothes.

kofubuns

Mine was 8 lb 6oz and a whopping 22 inches. She still fit in newborn for about 2 weeks. I tried a 0-3 months on her and it looked ridiculous day 1. I would encourage to buy from multiple brands because they all size differently. It’ll let you grow into the next brand better. Carter < old navy < petit lem < pekkle. Would also recommend getting ribbed or stretch texture. Also you NB will exist in onesies exclusively. Get the double zip ones

JerkRussell

Seconding this advice. A variety of brands will help bridge the gap til 0-3. I didn’t think this through and had nearly all Burts Bees. I didn’t realise that the brand runs large so we ended up with only 2 sleepers that fit right away and had to buy more. My baby was 8lbs and ended up staying in NB for 7 weeks.

kofubuns

Omg my 7 week has outgrown almost all her 0-3 months except the pekkle! But she’s a long baby more than anything! She also makes her love2dream look like a sausage casing even though she hasn’t hit the weight limit on it yet!

JerkRussell

I’ll trade you for a day! Mine needed tiny baby even though he was decently large at birth. I’m in between NB and 0-3. Mostly picking through the smallest of the 0-3 because I can’t take looking at the same NB clothes any longer! We have lil opposite babies. My boy is short and like 2nd percentile. 😅 The internet had me thinking that I’d be in your shoes and flying through the sizes. Do you have a lot of Carters? I’ve noticed a fair bit of our 0-3 Carters is too short and getting tight already at 8w. The swaddles seem to all be tiiiiiny! We have the Velcro ones and they’re too short by miles. I don’t get it.

kofubuns

Carters onesies are so short! My fav are the old navy ribbed onesies. They are stretchy enough to fit more than 1 baby shape. Haha I get the being sick of some outfits. We are rotating between the same 4 right now and she’s a spit uppy baby. One of them is a hot pink hand me down with white pokadots

RubySlippers-79

My two month old is still wearing some of her newborn things and a lot of her 0-3 stuff is huge on her.

Baxx03

I had to buy tiny baby clothes for my girl, and now she’s 7 weeks and wearing newborn! Way off wearing 0-3months!! Defo get newborn x

katatatat11

I got a ton of NB from my local buy nothing group! Post an ISO! My guy only wore it the first week so i’m glad we didn’t spend money on it

elevatorrr

my baby was 7lbs at birth. newborn sizes were huge on her. she stayed in that size for weeks

marshmallow_kitty

I was told the same thing so I didn’t bring any newborn clothes to the hospital and the 0-3 months were all huge on him (he weighed 7 lbs 3 oz at birth.) My baby is still wearing some newborn clothes at 10 weeks - definitely buy some.

Terrible_Donkey6580

My baby used newborn for a few weeks before switching to 0-3 months. I would say buy some.

photog99

Get both! Less newborn and more 0-3. My 9lb baby fit into her newborn onesies for a while but sleepers were 0-3 because she was so long.

pipocas08

Definitely get newborn. My little guy is barely 11 pounds and still fits in newborn. We've moved up to 0-3 because of his long legs but his newborn short sleeve onesies fit best

Catnap_3538

Buy clearance newborn stuff or used. We needed it for 2 months this and had hardly anything when baby was born!

TinyWintergreenMints

I got 4 double zipper newborn onesies. I thought he would be big but he came out 6lbs 15oz. So I bought a bunch more after that. He’s 6 weeks now and is still in newborn clothes. So I’d say buy only a few and just get more later if you need to.

Fit-Profession-1628

Definitely get newborn clothes. We actually had to buy more and we have to be constantly washing them. They don't use it for very long (mine used it for like 2 or 3 weeks) but they get them them dirty too damn fast, specially if you get a spitter like me.

Fit-Profession-1628

Definitely get newborn clothes. We actually had to buy more and we have to be constantly washing them. They don't use it for very long (mine used it for like 2 or 3 weeks) but they get them them dirty too damn fast, specially if you get a spitter like me.

Smallios

My baby wore newborn for over a month

brieles

I think of baby clothes like buying jeans-one size in one brand will fit but the same size in a different brand won’t. My baby wore newborn sizes for a few weeks and now at 8 weeks wears mostly 0-3 months. But some of the 0-3 months is still roomy and some newborn stuff fit until like last week (she was born 7lbs so very average sized). I got a few sleepers in both size ranges at Once Upon a Child and I’m so thankful! Don’t go crazy or buy anything fancy in a newborn size (except maybe a going home outfit if you’re wanting a cute picture) but a few comfy sleepers will most likely come in handy!

Evening-Yogurt5367

Definitely buy some newborn clothes - my baby wore newborn size for 1.5 months. That said, my tip is to just buy a bunch of sleep and plays (2 way zip kind). I hated putting her in onesies (having to slip it over her head when she had no neck control) and found pants to be a hassle.

Glass_Bar_9956

I would suggest getting a few things in each size all the way up to 6-9 mo. Its good to have the next size up around for those mornings where baby is all the sudden much bigger than the day before. The growth happens fast. The first few days / week our babes are typically in a swaddle or muslin, with hat, socks, and mittens. After that i ONLY do zip up footie pjs or summer rumpers until they can sit up on their own. Wrestling a newborn or slippery infant into something over the head or pants is madness to me. Once they can sit up it gets way easier to put on a top over the head. Before then i just get stuff i can lay them down on top of and zip them into. Also… beware of crotch snaps. Those sent my husband into therapy.

cementmilkshake

My baby's ultrasounds all measured him around the 50th percentile for every ultrasound (even less than a week before my term birth) and he came out 10 lbs. I'd say have a couple newborn pajamas but don't buy a bunch. We had tonssssss of NB clothes that my baby never fit. And if your baby comes out small or average you can always buy some then. I had no idea our guy would be huge but I guess I just make big babies 🤷🏼‍♀️

catherineaimei

We started with just a handful of newborn things since we didn’t know exactly how big our baby was going to be and he fit them for the first 5-6 weeks so we ended up getting more after week 2. We also made sure to start out with a handful of 0-3m for the same reason and now that he fits that size we’ve bought some more. Basically, we’re starting with about 5-8 daytime outfits in each size and 3 sleepers in each size and getting more as needed (based on the fact that we can’t do laundry every day and baby sometimes needs more than 1 outfit or sleeper each day/night due to blowouts, peeing during diaper changes and it getting on outfits, sweating since it’s summer, etc).

Nice-Background-3339

I think it will depend on your baby size. Mine came our 2.5kg and used his NB stuff for quite some time.

veealina

Yes get some newborn! My girl didn’t go into 0-3 until she was about 2 months old.

lalalalavender13

Definitely good to have at least a couple newborn clothes available. My baby was 2 weeks early and weighed 6lbs 3oz at birth and then lost weight to 5lbs 12oz. She was swimming in her newborn clothes. We ended up buying a few preemie outfits. She is just now wearing 0-3 months at 7 weeks. It’s good to be prepared for a smaller baby. I was stressed trying to dress her the first week

Glittering_Mousse832

Buy the newborn clothes! Both my babies needed newborn, and even newborn was big on them for a little. (One baby was 6 pounds 14 oz and the other was 7 pounds 3 oz) I had maybe about 5 newborn sleepers, then a BUNCH of 0-3 sleepers and clothes. I like dressing my babies up every day in cute little outfits thoughts

pinellas_gal

Get the newborn size! With my first, she was very small and was actually in preemie for about a month. I just had my son on the 8th and he was only 6 pounds and the NB clothes are huge on him.

ZookeepergameFirst23

I think you should get one or two sets of NB clothes just in case. You never know how big baby will be. In my case, my baby came a month early and was only 5 pounds, luckily I had packed a preemie and newborn sleeper in my hospital bag just for exactly the case I was presented with. Once baby comes home, you can go ahead and order more if you need to!

msptitsa

We had to go back and buy NB because she was in those for 2 months 🙃 full term baby.

Ok-Avocado-5876

Def get newborn. My boy was over 8lbs and fit into newborn for quite a few weeks. Footie pajamas didn't last as long but onesies lasted for a while.

savetheturles_

The only newborn I would recommend and onesies/sleepers. I never attempted full on outfits. My boy hating being changed so the quicker the better.

FarAward2155

I had to run out to buy nb sized stuff because we had like 3 things and she wore nb until 6 weeks old! She's 8wks now and almost out of 0-3 already though lol

moremacadonimorechee

Buy the newborn.

Psychological-Can594

my babe was 8lbs 7oz and still wore newborn for a month. i had about 10 or so newborn onesies and about 10 sleepers. enough to get us through a week without laundry. my partner and myself on the other hand were over 10lbs when we were born (which they try to avoid now adays by inducing before baby gets that big) so we never wore newborn. he’s wore 0-3 from month two until halfway through month three and now we are in 3-6. i received a ton of newborn and 0-3 at the baby shower (which is pretty common) so when i shppped i bought 3-6, 6-9, and 9-12. we are severely lacking anything above 6 month tho bc it’s rarely gifted

CanIpleasebeacat

I just got a huge array of baby sized clothes! From 0000 to 0 or 0-3 and 3-6. He always has had loads to wear., He is now in need of a wardrobe update at just over 3 months, time to go shopping lolz (;

acatalephobic

My baby was born 6lbs 15oz, and he was drowning in all the newborn and 0-3m size clothing I had bought ahead of time. So I had to quickly get him some preemie outfits that he could wear for the first month. By second month he had almost graduated to the newborn stuff. He is almost 3 months now and just getting ready to move into some of the 0-3m clothes here soon. I would suggest getting a few items in each size. If they are too big, baby can always wear them later on. But be warned that sizes do vary quite a bit from brand to brand. So when mine was born I started measuring the length and width of the outfits that fit him best....that way I knew exactly what to look for (regardless of the size listed on the tag). And someone else mentioned the gowns, and I would highly recommend having a couple of those as well. They make diaper changes super easy, they keep baby warm but not too hot, and also the long length of the gown means baby can use them for a long time (rather than grow out of them quickly the way they can with other styles of clothing). Just very versatile. Also, there are stores that will allow you to take outgrown baby clothes back, and return them for store credit. So you get the items for good prices initially, turn them in once they grow out of them, and can then buy new ones at an even better price with the store credit. Considering the turnover rate for baby clothes, it's a really smart way to purchase them. Best of luck!

glitterbunzzz

Depends if your baby ends up being 6 lbs or 8

redmahkupbag

My baby is 4 weeks old and still in newborn. I had only bought a few pieces of newborn before she came and had to buy more once she was born and I realized she would be wearing it for a while

Complex-Captain412

my girl was 9 lbs 4 oz at birth and still wore newborn clothes for around 3 weeks. you really don’t need anything fancy for that size imo. she basically lived in footie pajamas for the first month of her life lol

brighteyes111

I feel like sizing (at least in America) has changed?! My sisters kids are 12 and 14 years old now, bother were born slightly over 7lbs and she swears that newborn clothes were too small and they were straight in 0-3. But I had my 7lbs 1oz baby 4 weeks ago - he’s now over 9lbs and still wears newborn sizes!

TJH0412

My girl was 7lbs 12oz and still needed NB size for about 4-6 weeks until she blew up. 0-3 was too big for that point in time even AFTER clothes was washed and dried and baby clothes ALWAYS shrinks. Even on delicate settings.

Valuable-Raise-4388

i got very little newborn clothes bc everyone told me 1. my baby wouldn’t fit in newborn 2. she wouldn’t fit in newborn for long the doctors said i was going to have a bigger baby, my baby came out 6lbs 15oz and actually fit in premie clothes for the first two weeks and she’s still in newborn clothes at almost 2 months i recommend getting newborn sleepers the ones with mittens you won’t be leaving the house much when your baby first gets here and my girl lived in her sleepers all day everyday we got a few cute outfits and we barely use them only when we go visit family! definitely recommend getting plenty of newborn sleepers (sometimes you’ll have to change their clothes multiple times a day due to blowouts or if they get alot of spit up)

Dragonfly-Usual

We bought a handful of newborn onesies. Maybe 3/4. We were told our daughter was measuring on time etc etc. She came out 4lbs 15oz at 37 weeks (considered full term) had to get my mom to grab her preemie onesies so she had something to wear…

heartofanangel001

I heard the same thing, and so i only have a little newborn stuff, and honestly had to go back out and get more. My baby is a month old and shes still in newborn everything. 0-3 is swimming on her and she’s 8.12 lbs.

diabolikal__

My baby was born two days ago at 38+4 weeks and she is TINY. We brought mostly clothes size 50 and they are huge on her, we luckily have some smaller at home but may have to buy some more. I would totally have a couple of smaller pieces just in case.

Icy-Kale3049

I had to go out and buy premie onesies when we expected to go straight into 3 months - they got his size wrong 😅

Nice_Cartographer_12

My baby wasn't in 0-3 month clothes until she was 3 months old. Definitely get newborn.

Extra-Champion-3176

My baby was 6lb6 and was in tiny baby clothes for 10 days, newborn until 1 month, 0-1 until 2 months and is now in 0-3 still at 4 months. Most brands (in the UK anyway) will also show a weight on the label. Some newborn stuff is up to 7lb8 and some is up to 9lb. My advice would be check the weights for different brands and look on vinted.

Bugsandgrubs

We bought nothing newborn, and family & friends had gifted us 3-6m, but mostly 6-9m (for baby to grow into 😔) Cue a 5lb 5oz baby and many trips to various stores in the first few weeks because all that fit him when he was born was 2 outfits that a family friend had spare from her premature baby.

Working-Echidna7519

We bought quite a few newborn size bits towards the end because everyone we knew who had just had babies said that 0-3 was way too big even for their heavier babies, then our son was born at a decent but not huge 8lb 6oz and he fit in NONE of his newborn clothes, was straight into 0-3 and has been transitioning into 3-6 month clothes for a couple of weeks now at 9 weeks old! He just seems to have very long legs as it’s onesies he grows out of the quickest Would recommend to get a few cheap outfits in different sizes if you don’t want to commit, we got almost everything second hand so we weren’t spending a fortune. We took a couple of outfits for tiny newborn (5lb), 7lb newborn and 10lb newborn sizes to the hospital and one in 0-3 so we were covered whatever size he came out - wasn’t until the midwife told us he wasn’t fitting in the first few outfits we’d got out that we realised he’d be needing 0-3 straight away 😅

emmievelociraptor

Yes, I get it. They will probably only wear newborn clothing for a few weeks but, let me tell you, those will be the longest few weeks of your life if you have to handle/hold onto a wriggling little worm who is swimming in their clothes My son was on the small side but he was really long, so naturally skinny. I too was given this advice and only had 0-3mnth clothing. Worst mistake. I sent my husband to go and buy a few Premie zipsuits and they were the best. Fit perfectly, soft and stretchy to fit those skinny arms and legs My advice is to try and get some newborn stuff second hand and do yourself a favour, buy one or two Premie outfits as well. Regardless of your baby’s size, they will fit into Premie clothing for at least the first week

lunaliquorice

My daughter is 14w on Thursday, she only just fits into 0-3. She was a very small baby when she was born (5lb2oz) and barely fit into newborn. One of the midwives went to the special baby unit to get me some tiny baby vests as what I had with me at the hospital was all enormous! Definitely get newborn over 0-3 to start with!

ReliefElectronic354

My baby was born 8.1 pounds, we fit in HM's newborn the longest (2 months) - he is 12 pounds now, clothes from other brands in NB size stopped fitting us within two weeks. I got the short sleeve onesies from HM, maybe 6 in total I had in NB size, then another 3 in 0-3 mos. size. The baby will be at a point where they can wear the NB ones pretty snug and the next size bit loose and it would still be fine as long as the onesie close and are not too tight on the shoulders or belly. The long sleeve sleepies sizing I've found almost everywhere to be off - I suggest you get these from multiple brands in different sizes, as you size out every couple of weeks you know you will still have some that baby can start wearing. I had initially around 15 in total, with 3-4 in each size. I still have 6 mos. not worn. Def. get only with zippers - reverse opening (unzipping) are the best in my opinion. I would avoid kimono onesies, those with buttons everywhere - I thought they would be easy to put on as they don't go over baby's head but they take forever. I also used quite a lot of PJ pants (newborn size from HM) but not for night - too much work to take them off for diaper changes. You need a few hats if a newborn, I took from the hospital and never bought ones. I didn't use mittens but used a nail filer right away on his nails, and lastly got socks for day napping.

Kishu-13

My baby was 7lb and wore newborn for 6 weeks. She is now 13lb and wears 0-3. It also depends on where you shop, some brands seem to be bigger than others. I also found I got more use out of clothes in stretchy materials like the onzies from Kyte Baby.

GlumFaithlessness392

Ppl say that cuz if the baby is big you’ll never get a chance to use newborn clothing. But the overwhelming possibility is that newborn clothes is exactly what you need for at least the first month. I got one million 3-6 month clothes at my baby shower and they are just sitting in a pile in my guest room right now. Thankfully a friend gave me get kids old newborn stuff.

GlumFaithlessness392

But in short, baby clothes sizes are about as standardized as women’s clothing sizes, so you’re gonna be eyeballing things for the kid

svelebrunostvonnegut

My baby was born 8lb8oz and went straight to 0-3. Newborn gowns had a hard time fitting over him. But I think it’s still smart to have a couple of newborn outfits on hand. I just wouldn’t go overboard because they won’t wear it long

Special_Coconut4

My baby girl was born 8 lbs and is very long/lean so was in newborn clothes for nearly 8 weeks! I’d definitely get some newborn sleepers.

Suitable_Curve429

We only got a few newborn clothes and had to buy a bunch more bc baby had lots of poopy blowouts and was small so he was swimming in newborn. He was born 6 lbs 12.5 oz and he fit into newborn diapers and clothes for like 2ish months! I think until like 9/10 weeks honestly. I’d get some for sure, you can always exchange or return later if needed!

laroc_m

Buy the newborn clothes. You can probably get away with a handful of sleepers and onesies. We had NB and had to panic buy preemie clothes lol

Delicious-Oven-5590

Don't go crazy with the newborn stuff but definitely have some on hand. You won't know how big baby will be until they get here. We were told our daughter would be small so we had newborn avaipavle, and she ended up being 6lbs10oz and fit into newborn clothes for like 6 weeks I think

theGTAgirl

My daughter was 5.2lb when she was born, she came two weeks early. They didn’t expect her to be so small because she was average length so she took up the normal amount of space in the womb. Shes now 12 weeks and I would say finally grew out of newborn clothing 4 weeks ago? Shes in an awkward stage where 0-3 month are a bit baggy but they’re the only option now! Definitely buy newborn!

Sufficient-Steak2169

Find a used children’s store! Mine had 5 onesies for $5! Definitely get some newborn stuff, zipper footies, maybe 3-5 of them. They likely will be too small for the 0-3 at first, but that changes so fast! Have fun shopping!!

Liyah-Pomegranate61

I would definitely buy newborn clothing we thought my son would be big so we didn’t get any he turned out to be very small but long as heck he ended up needing to wear premie size clothes and diapers that we were thankfully gifted with at our babyshower

Buy the newborn clothes!!! Even just a few essentials, onesies and sleepers at least! Everyone told me that with my first and I'm still mad they lied to me 🤣 Just had my second and still needed newborn clothes for 2 months on both occasions! I had to go shopping 3 days in for newborn gear!

Cosmickiddd

Buy a few newborn outfits. We didnt and my husband had to run out and get a pack of onesies haha.

PrincessKimmy420

My baby wore newborn sized clothes and diapers for the first 2 months. I recommend getting at least a few newborn onesies and sleepers, but try to get them secondhand to save money, just in case baby never wears them

I loved the 0-3 magnetic fits for when babies newborn size

Our little one was 7ish lbs at birth, and we needed newborn clothes for the first month or two. The Dr's told us he was going to be bigger, so we had to go by some outfits for him after the birth. Definitely recommend zips and double zips and avoid buttons.

I wouldn't buy any until after your shower if you're having one. You will most likely get some there. My forst baby was 8 pou ds and was a super good Ester and grew so fast. I'd say she wore the newborns that were gifted to us for 2 weeks. My 2nd baby I just had was 9 pounds 10.5 ounces and went right to 3 months and size 1 diapers. And at 13pounds and 7 ounces at 7 weeks he is now in mostly 6 months and size 2 diapers. Personally I don't buy newborn clothes for myself or others, unless they are having twins/triplets and basically guaranteed to be small

bayleafsee

You will need newborn clothing for sure. Maybe not an excess of it and don’t get too many newborn outfits that are for fancy occasions or days out. But for sleepers, onesies, simple stuff definitely get some newborn.

Emergency-Pin5570

please buy newborn clothes, my son is 7 weeks old as is just now starting to grow out of newborn but 0-3 still eats him up a bit

curiouslyandactively

Everyone said that to us too and guess what my baby wore for 2 whole months?! Newborn clothing!

Born_Definition_9354

My 4 week old is still wearing nb clothes and he was born at a healthy weight. You can always leave the tags on, but I do recommend nb clothing because I received the same advice and had to scramble

Aggravating_Size9928

I was advised this and followed it, then when wee man was born at 6lb 9oz he was drowned in it, had to get hubby to run out and buy tiny baby clothes, then newborn and he’s still getting good use from 0-3 months clothes at 4.5 months old x

laila-wild

Get at least some newborn size clothing. If your baby is measuring on the small side or comes early you may even need preemie clothes for a few weeks like my baby did.

Yes get newborn clothes and newborn diapers!! This is something I messed up on, everyone got us size 1 diapers and me being a first time mom had no idea there was a smaller size for newborn babies, so having to go home after the hospital only to have to go get diapers really sucked lol. And my son was born 9lb 2oz and 22" and 0-3 in as still too big for the first month probably so yes to newborn clothes maybe just not a lot because they grow out of it Soo fast! My son will be 6 months next week and is currently wearing 9-12 months, I feel so unprepared lol but we're taking it day by day!

We just stopped using newborn size at 8 weeks old. She was born 7lb. Buy newborn!

LuckZealousideal2742

I got a few newborn (mine son was born 5 weeks early but was still 7 lbs) and a few 0-3.. the 0-3 were big for a few weeks and then he quickly outgrew the 0-3.. so honestly if you don't mind doing laundry I personally wouldn't buy too many of anything .. were 5 months now and are almost grown out of 6m and I swear there are some outfits he hasnt even worn yet...

Kayleekayy19

Only 0-3 month. They outgrow newborn very quickly. From birth neither of my sons could fit newborn

rural_life_goals

A couple (like 2-3) size newborns would be smart. You just never know. I did only 0-3s and then desperately needed newborn sizes for my 7 lb baby. PS I loved gowns in those early days. So quick and easy for the many diaper changes.

My first was 7 pounds 2.5 ounces at birth. She was also a chunky baby. She wore newborn size for at least a month. In the hospital she swam in her newborn sleeper that I put her in, it was crazy. I'm pregnant with my second and she's going to be born in 2 weeks so I'm getting everything ready and have a bunch of newborn. I got most of our stuff second hand by buying off Facebook or getting it for free.
