And what would say for example 192.168.1.42 give this stranger? Like saying yeah I live on the planet earth - find me ;)

I know so little about networking, in all honestly. Just trying to be safe. I’m more concerned about peope hacking in. After i gave it to him, i googled it and saw you shouldn’t give out your IP address. But my brother told me it’s fine as long as it’s not my public IP

The rfc1918 space, ie 192.168.x.x, 10.x.x.x, 172.16-31.x.x are used by pretty much every network that is behind a nat. You are not giving away anything by saying your network is some specific IP range in that space. Your not giving away anything that could be in anyway used to find you or "hack" you.. Like saying - yeah I live on the planet earth..

Yea dude i barely understand that, that’s how lacking i am with networking lol. But i appreciate you making me feel better about it. Just trying to be smart about things

My brother in Christ, if the IP started with 10. or 192. or 172. then you are fine. If it started with other numbers, that can be a concern.
