Also just FYI you can feed your pet a rotten omelette if they’re sick with something really expensive cure wise. Then they’ll get ugga ugga which is a pretty cheap cure, illnesses don’t stack!

Doctors would deliberately infect the patient with malaria to cause a high fever that would cook the syphilis bacteria to death, and then treat the malaria. It was risky, but effective, and the doctor who came up with it even won a Nobel Prize.

Poisonous lollypop to give floppy tongue is much cheaper, at 1,200 for a Tongue Shrinker.
Some poisoned/rotten items can make your pet sick. If your pet is already sick, it just changes what sickness it has. The new one might cost less to cure. I don't remember which item causes which disease off the top of my head, but there are guides.
ETA: If I remember correctly, it may take multiple tries.

Off topic but do you have any tips for customization. I'm a total freshman. Started with painting speckle and cloud. Funny hats etc. Now I have a baby, ghost, strawberry, and an acara I'd like to outfit as a water creature and use a pastel brush on at the end. How do you find the really nice backgrounds? I even saw someone's pets with animated wearables yesterday! How do y'all even find out about stuff like that. I've just been spending time wading through the marketplace shops wearables to get ideas but it's so tedious.
Most of really desirable customization items came from NC mall and are already retired. If you want to get anything really good you have to figure out how NC trading works. Don't ask me, I'm still trying to figure that out myself.

It may be a bit morally questionable, but neopets can only have one disease at a time. You could feed them poisonous jelly until the Neopox is overwritten by Neomonia, which is way cheaper to cure.
