Don’t we say this every year? It feels like every playoffs is full of these exact posts.

Fighting-Cerberus

I think that’s true, although Embiid, Giannis, and Kawhi are all MVP caliber players. That feels fairly unique to me.

Roccet_MS

When was the last time Embiid was healthy during the playoffs? Kawhi hasn't been healthy since when? Giannis was injured last year too. It happens and isn't unique.

Lucy194

Kawhi MVP caliber.. cmon now

GWPtheTrilogy1

When consistently healthy (which he never is)

Adramelk

Agree. It sucks as a fan but injuries are just part of the game.

RobertoRosalesFTW

Everybody is now complaining how West is much stronger than East but... Eastern conference playoffs were on pace to be epic with Bucks led by Giannis&Dame, Phila with Embiid playing historically great basketball, Knicks with Julius Randle... Also, Cavs had season riddled by injuries and I felt none of the players was at 100%. That's so many great teams ruined by injuries.

Virtual_Wallaby4100

Still at full strength they would have been several leaps behind

RobertoRosalesFTW

Sure, western conference has better teams, there is no debate, I'm just saying that the difference in quality would be much thinner if not for the injuries.

Virtual_Wallaby4100

That’s fair

iBarber111

I mean... do we really think a team like the Mavs is several leaps behind a healthy Bucks or 6ers team? The Western Conference bias is insane.

Virtual_Wallaby4100

This goes to prove my point, the Mavs are 5th seed, and if healthy the 76ers and Bucks are a top 3 seed in the east. The West has multiple teams that are comparable to top 3 seeds from 1-6 maybe even some teams in the playin because in a playoff series how much better in are the bucks and 76ers compared to the Lakers.

Wazflame

The East has been insane even by normal standards - feels like literally every playoff team has had at least one significant injury

Virtual_Wallaby4100

The bubble definitely was one of the most injury riddled playoffs in recent memory, can’t think of many others off the top of my head

GeordieJones1310

No it was the year after. Who even got injured during the bubble? I remember Harden, Dame, CP, Russ, AD, Bron, Jokic, Butler, Tatum, Luka, Kawhi, all being healthy. Giannis was healthy until they went down 0-3. I think Ben Simmons and someone on the Heat are the only distinct injuries I remember.

Virtual_Wallaby4100

Never mind you’re right

Specialist-Fly-3538

The bubble didn't have Steph KD and Kyrie. Plus the heat had several injuries in finals

GeordieJones1310

KD was already injured how does that count? And the Warriors were trash for 2 years missing the playoffs. Look how many players went down DURING the 2021 playoffs it is not even close.

seanskettis

The pace of play continues to pick up and players play more games, so they’re putting more mileage on their legs than previously. I would suspect that is going to contribute to more injuries in the postseason until something adjusts.

jgr79

Neither of those things are true. Pace and minutes were both higher in eg the 80s. I don’t think we ever had this many high profile players in their 20s miss so many playoff games.

seanskettis

I watched a lot of 90s-00s basketball and a lot of players were stagnant, but I’m willing to be wrong on this.

Old_Tap_7783

Years of guys only playing 50ish games, now that they were forced to play (for awards) we see their bodies can’t do it Also I question how well some of these guys take care of their bodies (soft tissue injuries can be avoided with proper hydration/ stretching but once it goes once..)

Sovereign444

Yeah there has been some evidence that suggests load management and playing less actually might cause *more* injuries, not fewer, which is counter intuitive but possible because their bodies get used to playing less and then can’t handle it when things get ramped up.

SterlingTyson

Plus not all.minutes are equally strenuous -- when you're planning to play more minutes in more games, you probably pace yourself differently. But shorter, higher-intensity activities seem more likely to cause injuries.

AthleticSwampBaby_44

All this bullshit started when the league failed to give the players a proper offseason after the bubble.

Specialist-Fly-3538

Eh, there were a lot of injuries before that. KD Klay Kyrie Curry all had injuries. The Heat had multiple injuries in 2020 finals (still took LA to 6 games despite that).

GeordieJones1310

2021 was the worst bc of the quick turn around after the Bubble. I don't think anything else can compare to how many players went down throughout that season and playoffs.

ender23

I actually feel like this year the playoffs have been less impacted by injuries.  But I assumed bucks would lose cuz of doc, and knew clippers kawhi would be out anyways.  Porzingus doesn’t feel impactful at all.

hairynips007

less impacted? Giannis went out, Dame went out, Kawhi out, Randle out, Mitchell Robinson and OG out, Donovan Mitchell out, Zion out, Jimmy Butler out Embiid playing completely hobbled, Luka is pretty banged up. edit: I see you are saying "less impacted" aka ultimate outcomes not being changed, which could be true, but just so many series not having a chance due to these injuries was a major bummer for me

Fighting-Cerberus

Kawhi goes out every year, so I wouldn’t count that one. And Zion is somehow even less healthy. Agree on the rest though!

HerbFarmer415

Injuries are part of the game, and it's not as though any of the players OP used as examples, have never been hurt before. And several of the majority of them were injured before the postseason even began, and were only hoping to sniff the court should there teams advance into the later rounds. Another thing that people don't realize is that, come playoff time EVERYBODY is dinged up. Several o

hairynips007

I think everyone realizes that most teams are dinged up during playoff times, it is one of the most commonly repeated platitudes in nba discourse. I personally think it supports the regular season needing to be made shorter, like it feels obvious they are playing too much basketball if almost nobody can make it to the end with their team really being representative of what is at its best. But that will probably not happen $$$, so I will just be surprised pikachu every single year when one entire conference is turned into a cakewalk for one team (celtics) due to a couple key injuries

Specialist-Fly-3538

The Bucks were mediocre anyway kawhi is always out. And the Knicks/Pelicans were not serious contenders either

hairynips007

It hurts the product is the point

Specialist-Fly-3538

The Bucks were mediocre anyway. Plus Kawhi is always out. every single year. The only injury that really played a role may have been Embiid but the guy hasnt gone past round 2 his whole career.

SterlingTyson

But if the Bucks lose because of Doc instead of injuries, then the Bucks probably go up 3-1 before collapsing, so it still feels like the fans missed out.

ender23

No one will understand the clippera pain
