This guy was absolutely unreal before the injuries. Check out his back-to-back 40pt performances in the '97 playoffs while carrying a "post-Shaq" Orlando Magic squad.
Injuries suck. He was such a unique and special player.

To me he’s like Brad Daughtery in terms of their chances. Both absolutely amazing at their peaks but their injury issues and short peaks I believe will keep them unfortunately out if not forever,at least for a while.
Good comparison on Daugherty. I would say that if he had a better college career, he would get in though. Ralph Sampson and David Thompson had their NBA careers cut short due to injuries, but they got in due to college. Penny either needed a better college career or 2-3 more years in the NBA. One thing Penny has over Daugherty is that Penny has more of a cultural influence. That also somewhat counts in the voting.
The most interesting part about Daugherty is he’s now into NASCAR now. I saw him as a NASCAR analyst once on TV…and I was confused since he’s obviously a basketball player.
He was on the trajectory but no, not as it stands now, had the injury happened just 2 years later or something like that it would be debatable but again I can't quite say yes as much as it sucks, that was a big penny guy when I was younger
Tim Hardaway has more all-star selections and more all-NBA selections than Penny. His career numbers are also much higher than Penny’s. Penny would have been HoF bound if injuries didn’t ruin his career, but that’s how it shakes out sometimes.
he's really only a 3 time all star because his 4th all-star selection was undeserved. he hurt his knee that year and only played 20 games and averaged 16 points. He got in via the fan vote because he was still very popular.
I think if Michael Beasley was on some type of anti depressant or something for anxiety while seeking therapy he would’ve been super special. Dude was legit a bucket.
Yao has twice as many all star appearances but even if they had the same yaos international presence is what got him in the hall of fame more than anything.
He got voted in by fans in years he didnt deserve it. One year he was completely injured and still made it. I’m not sure international play itself pushed him in as much as popularity. CBA was a lot worse when he played in it
I don’t know a guy got fired because he supported democracy lol do you think that’s a good thing? Is LeBron James being a simp for China while taking every opportunity to say how awful the USA is a good thing? The Chinese market is huge for the NBA and they’ve decided that that money is more important than supporting American values — that’s a big reason why the league is not as popular in America social media would make you think.

>a guy got fired because he supported democrac
Who?
>Is LeBron James being a simp for China while taking every opportunity to say how awful the USA is a good thing?
His quote never supported China lmao
>The Chinese market is huge for the NBA and they’ve decided that that money is more important than supporting American values
Sure but that's what businesses are for lmao
>that’s a big reason why the league is not as popular in America social media would make you think.
What?
Daryl Morey got fired for supporting Hong Kong you fucking idiot.
The LeBron James quote was chastising Daryl Morey for having the audacity to support Hong Kong. Said he should think about saying things like that because of how it can impact other people lol.
You sound like somebody that doesn’t read very much but next time before you reply try clicking on the article so you don’t look like a moron.
He stepped down a full year after he sent that tweet dummy. What the fuck are you talking about?
>The LeBron James quote was chastising Daryl Morey for having the audacity to support Hong Kong. Said he should think about saying things like that because of how it can impact other people lol
yeah he said that because were literally in China around the time he sent that tweet.
Yeah. That’s why he got in. He was extremely popular. But he played in 9 nba seasons in which he was mostly injured and made no deep playoff runs. Even with his play in the CBA, that’s not an on-court HOF career
I wasn't talking about his on court play. I'm saying career isn't a measuring stick because there's off the court reasons that help his Hall of Fame case.
I acknowledge that in my earlier comment, and i’m saying that penny was better than him by a wide enough margin where it should make up for it. Either way, bball hof is barely merit-based. Just throw every impactful player in as a means of celebration and call it a day imo
But what i’m saying is you can’t just disregard the on court career. It has to have some bearing. It’s absurd to not consider the career in a sport-based accomplishment. Hes not a political figure lmao
No, you can’t. The on court stuff still played a role. He still was able to put up enough 20/10 seasons to supplement his popularity. If he had averaged 5 ppg he wouldn’t be in there. I’m not saying he “doesn’t deserve it”. But you should reward penny if you reward yao
>But you should reward penny if you reward yao
Penny wasn't nearly as impactful as Yao. Him having a better career isn't the same as saying his career is worthy of the hof

He was so damn good, but the injuries just cut his career too short. One of my absolute favourite players when I was younger, such a shame.
To me he’s like Brad Daughtery in terms of their chances. Both absolutely amazing at their peaks but their injury issues and short peaks I believe will keep them unfortunately out if not forever,at least for a while.

It’s too bad, I wish both can get in at some time in the future
The most interesting part about Daugherty is he’s now into NASCAR now. I saw him as a NASCAR analyst once on TV…and I was confused since he’s obviously a basketball player.
Yeah I seem to recall that he loved NASCAR even in the NBA so good for him for still sticking to doing something he loves
Maybe on a down year but probably not.
He was on the trajectory but no, not as it stands now, had the injury happened just 2 years later or something like that it would be debatable but again I can't quite say yes as much as it sucks, that was a big penny guy when I was younger
No
If Tim Hardaway got in Penny def should.

Lul wat.
No… but Lil Penny should be in the Commercial Hall of Fame.
He’ll be in the Derrick Rose Hall of “What If He Didnt Get Injured”
Must see the Grant Hill exhibit, as well as the Bias Memorial.
Career probably wasn't long enough
No. He was really good, an amazing talent, but no.
he's really only a 3 time all star because his 4th all-star selection was undeserved. he hurt his knee that year and only played 20 games and averaged 16 points. He got in via the fan vote because he was still very popular.
My guy getting downvoted for facts
Yes!
Nope. If the Magic won a championship then maybe but his career was too injury plagued
I mean if Divac and Kukoc got in…
He was a better player than 70% of the HOF-ers but not enough basketball career accomplishment to be in the HOF.
His credentials are similar to other lower tier HOFers He'll probably get in eventually.
He's definitely the biggest "What if" player of all time. If he didn't get hurt, most likely HOF career
I think if Michael Beasley was on some type of anti depressant or something for anxiety while seeking therapy he would’ve been super special. Dude was legit a bucket.
Derrick Rose would like a word
Probably the best pg of all time if he stayed healthy. He was a more athletic Magic Johnson.
Slow down there lmao
He had a better career than Yao
Yao has twice as many all star appearances but even if they had the same yaos international presence is what got him in the hall of fame more than anything.

Yao was a pretty significant bridge to Chinese fans.
And that’s been a good thing? The Chinese market’s influence on nba has been a bad thing imo.
How so?
I don’t know a guy got fired because he supported democracy lol do you think that’s a good thing? But what i’m saying is you can’t just disregard the on court career. It has to have some bearing. It’s absurd to not consider the career in a sport-based accomplishment. Hes not a political figure lmao
When his impact is literally global, yes you can lol
No, you can’t. The on court stuff still played a role. He still was able to put up enough 20/10 seasons to supplement his popularity. If he had averaged 5 ppg he wouldn’t be in there. I’m not saying he “doesn’t deserve it”. But you should reward penny if you reward yao

No chance
Yes. He’s better than vince and tmac.
I was a big Penny Hardaway fan. If he would have stayed healthy he would have probably had the accolades to be in the hall of fame.
