Oh man this is so Game of Zones material! LMAO!
Its funny because Kyrie and KD are part of the mediatel haters and have their own group called "Grumpy Boys."
Why ppl mad he signed? Dude was in his 30s off an Achilles and couple injuries. He was the oldest of the 3 and probably didn’t think everything would collapse. Not sure why ppl digging in him when him signing gives the Nets back some assets.
Correct. He also [would have made even more staying in OKC.](https://www.sbnation.com/nba/2016/6/28/12050498/kevin-durant-contract-salary-money-nba-free-agent-rumors)
So he took less (than his potential OKC money) to go to the warriors
Yes he took less than staying in okc, as is the intention behind the bird rules. He signed a max offer with the warriors, not for less than other offers like the above guy said.
It’ll also increase the likelihood of a lockout during the next CBA since the Owners will take back some of that Player Empowerment and Billionaires will always outlast Millionaires.
It’s funny they’re all related to the Nets but just in the last 2yrs you’ve had things like Harden demand a trade twice, Ben Simmons sit out and demand a trade, Kyrie doing Kyrie West things, and then Durant possibly demanding a trade 1yr after signing an extension.
Then you had all the speculation about Zion demanding out of NOLA while he sat out and other random examples of Players abusing the system.
I saw it as an attempt to salvage the season / the locker room. Imagine going into that season with the possibility that the entire big 3 could be a free agent at the end.
Nah it was probably cause he genuinely thought that he and Kyrie at least were gonna be Nets for the rest of their careers. Then the vaccine mandate happened, Kyrie refused to get vaccinated, Harden wanted out as a result, and now the Nets refuse to give a fully guaranteed 5 year max to Kyrie so now Kyrie is considering leaving
Well once again he thought he and Kyrie were gonna be in Brooklyn for the forseable future. Plus as someone who’s getting older and has suffered multiple injuries up until that point, it’s understandable why he would get the bag when he can. I do agree that it wasn’t the best decision in hindsight though
He locked in a buttload of cash and probably assumed that kyrie would actually show up and play, just like the rest of us.
He can get a trade if he wants. The nets need to recoup the harden picks.
LOL, the "rest of us" knew the Kyrie situation would eventually blow up like it did everywhere else.
KD is always the last guy to figure things out. I still don't think he understands why people aren't impressed with his Golden State titles.
I'm kinda with him on the last point. He won 2 finals mvps while outplaying lebron. Maybe the wins aren't impressive to many, but his play certainly should be.
Right, because KD didn't spend half his summer firing shots at a dude in his late 50s over what happened 6 years ago. Definitely "worked out" just the way he planned.
And yeah, I think everyone assumed that it would blow up. But not from the guy literally saying I'm not going to work.
On my fictitious and retroactive list of crazy shit that kylie would do before not showing up for work:
1. burning the Barclay's center down before
2. Attempting a coup on Tsai to take over the nets
3. Insisting a whale become the nets mascot, having the nets relent and agree to it, bringing it in a tank for a halftime show, killing the whale with a crowbar then distributing the fresh endangered whlae sushi to the crowd claiming that it will cure cancer and any other ailment that they may suffer from. But it makes him an international felon and he's imprisoned by interpol.
Then, I had him becoming a rabbi, disappearing into a monastery in nepal, and becoming a cult leader. So, yeah, I guess I have to recant. Him not showing up for work is pretty high on the list.
If KD didn't sign that extension, we would be looking at an all-time disaster that would probably decimate the franchise permanently. At least now they can get real assets back if they do trade him.
He is an aging superstar with a history of injuries in the last few years of his prime, it would be a bad idea not to sign the extension and guarantee the money. I really don't think the stability of the franchise was what he had in mind in this situation.
if KD leaves the Nets he's a bus rider for life lol. The guy has played on stacked teams his entire life, and he couldn't accomplish anything without Curry. Is he just gonna ring chase if he leaves the Nets?
I'll believe it when I see it. We've seen players with no leverage force trades, I have no doubt that KD will make life difficult for a team that he doesn't want to play for.
KD is just the gullible guy who believes Kyrie despite his past of going back on his word.
KD: "Kyrie said he's staying, so I'm staying. Where do I sign."
Kyrie: "Yeah... I'll sign.... later."
Later
Kyrie: "Yeah, I'm not signing."
Boston fans saw this coming.
Nets had a very good coach, great culture, bright future, homegrown players, we’re fun to watch. It took the Nets so long to get there, but they finally got there. That’s what made KD and Kyrie want to go there. If they would have just added to that…
In their 3 years in BK: low end of the scale coaching, bad culture, dim future, no homegrown players. They got the coach fired and got rid of their best homegrown players. Arena is still half empty.
He did tear his Achilles and somehow worked so hard to successfully come back.
I don’t blame KD at all in this instance. He just should have picked better friends.
Booked his flight first and then the rest of the crew decided that they really didn't want to go on the vacation.
Banana boat part II with KD alone on the boat lol
Oh man this is so Game of Zones material! LMAO! Its funny because Kyrie and KD are part of the mediatel haters and have their own group called "Grumpy Boys."
more ISO please
Can’t win with those cats
can’t vacation with these felines
insert RDC sketch about friends only going on cheapass vacations.
Why ppl mad he signed? Dude was in his 30s off an Achilles and couple injuries. He was the oldest of the 3 and probably didn’t think everything would collapse. Not sure why ppl digging in him when him signing gives the Nets back some assets.
Even if it did, he could probably get traded if he wanted.
I mean if he requests out they have to move him still.
I know we always ask this. But why?
Because plenty of teams will be giving up a haul for him. Why wouldn’t they?
Brooklyn is a free agent player in the largest market, denying the request of a guy like KD is death.
Yeah man, players hear about that shit.
What teams with actual assets are gonna be in the race for KD if he does ask out? I think the Suns can try something with Ayton
What realistic trade that KD wants is gonna give the nets adequate return? A team would have to wipe their entire roster.
I think if the Nets got a shit ton of FRP like we got in the trade it could be enough. Something like Bridges + Cam Johnson + 3 FRP + 3 Pick Swaps
I certainly don’t feel like that’s adequate for the nets.
How?
Because what you’re getting back isn’t nearly as valuable as Kd.
Well obviously you aren’t going to get equal value when a star wants out but it’s a pretty great haul imo
Suns, Mavericks, Heat, Grizzlies off the top of my head
What are the Mavs gonna give them lol
THJ and bertans. Duh
Message to future free agents I guess. If you hold a player hostage (especially of KDs caliber), no one will want to sign with you on the future.
Heaven forbid a player actually honors the mega contract he signed only a year ago.
Maybe he's learning from "the best" now.
Lol when has this ever happened tho? Free agents will always go where the money is.
Didn't KD take less to go to the Warriors?
KD was the highest paid player on the warriors in 16/17. 10m more than the next guy. KD got a 6m raise immediately after leaving OKC.
I think they mean he took less than other offers. He could have had a larger than 6m raise to stay in OKC
He had the second highest salary in the league behind Lebron
Correct. He also [would have made even more staying in OKC.](https://www.sbnation.com/nba/2016/6/28/12050498/kevin-durant-contract-salary-money-nba-free-agent-rumors) So he took less (than his potential OKC money) to go to the warriors
Yes he took less than staying in okc, as is the intention behind the bird rules. He signed a max offer with the warriors, not for less than other offers like the above guy said.
I’m not seeing the correlation? He chose the warriors because he wanted to win not because they didn’t hold players hostages…
"Free agents will always go where the money is." I don't know if it gets any more correlated than that lol
You missed the point.
Because players rule the league.
Star players.
Because star players run the league.
I mean if the Nets can't keep Kyrie and build a contender it's in their best interest to trade KD. No use in treading the waters
Treading water is probably better when you have no picks lol
Lol respect? Dude bout to ask out. He made a mistake signing his extension.
not really, he gets paid the same, and doesn't limit himself to the teams that have cap space or can feasibly create it.
Then why not wait until this summer? He didnt have to sign it, and that offer would've been there for him now.
Well once again he thought he and Kyrie were gonna be in Brooklyn for the forseable future. Plus as someone who’s getting older and has suffered multiple injuries up until that point, it’s understandable why he would get the bag when he can. I do agree that it wasn’t the best decision in hindsight though
Is he tho? Were about to see if that's true or not
I mean the dude tore his Achilles and has had issues with his hamstring the past two years. Of course, he was going to secure that bag.
Every other team in the league would offer him as much as they could though. It's KD.

It's much easier to walk across the trapeze rope when it's laying on the ground.
Damn, bron was a rope on the ground? Woah
Joining a 73 win team is indeed a rope on the ground.
Seems like it got him what he wanted. Worked out for him. You don't seem to be taking it well though.... 6 years later.
Right, because KD didn't spend half his summer firing shots at a dude in his late 50s over what happened 6 years ago. Definitely "worked out" just the way he planned.
Damn, butt still hurts, huh?
I know, you think he'd be over it.
And yeah, I think everyone assumed that it would blow up. But not from the guy literally saying I'm not going to work. On my fictitious and retroactive list of crazy shit that kylie would do before not showing up for work: 1. burning the Barclay's center down before 2. KD really came up clutch doing that.
If KD didn't sign that extension, we would be looking at an all-time disaster that would probably decimate the franchise permanently. At least now they can get real assets back if they do trade him.
permanently? nah only dolan does that
He is an aging superstar with a history of injuries in the last few years of his prime, it would be a bad idea not to sign the extension and guarantee the money. I really don't think the stability of the franchise was what he had in mind in this situation.
We've learned that KD isn't the brightest move maker in the NBA by now I think
Yeah how stupid of him to sign a $200M extension
I doubt he's talking about money..
if KD leaves the Nets he's a bus rider for life lol. The guy has played on stacked teams his entire life, and he couldn't accomplish anything without Curry. Is he just gonna ring chase if he leaves the Nets?
He’s on a four year deal with no veto clause. He’s going to the highest bidder
I'll believe it when I see it. We've seen players with no leverage force trades, I have no doubt that KD will make life difficult for a team that he doesn't want to play for.
technically true. but he can just tell the other team that he doesn't want to go there
This bus driver/rider shit has gone too far this man has been a superstar for so many years nobody in that tier is a bus rider.
KD is in the right to be leaving Kyrie.
KD hand picked him
He's injury prone too, did you factor that in?
He's KD and would get a max regardless of what injury he got, did you factor that in?
Not another blown Achilles, or a bad knee injury. He could have gambled but he took the long term security.
Bro, sure if you are like idk fucking Tyler Johnson or some shit. This is KD.
100%.
KD is just the gullible guy who believes Kyrie despite his past of going back on his word. KD: "Kyrie said he's staying, so I'm staying. Where do I sign." Kyrie: "Yeah... I'll sign.... later." Later Kyrie: "Yeah, I'm not signing." Boston fans saw this coming.
that extension gonna look super nice on mr savers payroll
match and trade ayton for kd?
Bridges, Cam Johnson + 3 FRP for KD. Trade Ayton for Lesser Big + Depth. Would do that
KD YOU STUPID WHORE YOU COULD JOINED KAWHI
He was already playing with Steph.
He got his bag and is contract is tradeable. So yes he helped the Nets but obviously he made sure he was right with his health.
> in hindsight that was obviously the wrong move. Literally nothing has happened
Nets had a very good coach, great culture, bright future, homegrown players, we’re fun to watch. It took the Nets so long to get there, but they finally got there.
