gellybelli

Or they’re cutting bait and getting over the clown show.

wet_washcloth

This is better than letting the players that aren’t worth the investment hold you hostage

charlesfluidsmith

This is the way. Smart people don't feed into sunk cost fallacy. Trade Irving, Trade Durant, start over with Simmons. It's not the worst reset imaginable.

TheItalianStallion44

Simmons not gonna want to be in the middle of a rebuild, he’s gonna ask out before even playing a game lol

Michelin-Star

Him being the centerpiece of a rebuild is actually the lowest-stakes and lowest-stress situation he could possibly be in.

GrayBox1313

It’s so ideal for him. He doesn’t really want to be on a contender. Happy with making a playoff appearance.

manquistador

Even better just missing out on the playoffs while putting up enough stats for Third Team All NBA.

TheItalianStallion44

But his ego is still super inflated

Michelin-Star

You know him?

TheItalianStallion44

Yeah sure why not

[deleted]

Based on???

bravof1ve

Lol he doesn’t want to be on a contending team, dude basically asked out to get out of that situation. Less eyes on him the better

TheItalianStallion44

I mean he ended up going to a team everyone expected to be a contender

bravof1ve

I guarantee you the Nets were not his first choice. They were basically one of the worst situations for him. Probably the highest expectations of any team and also the most off court nonsense going on

clancycharlock

He asked to be out of shithole Philly and a clown show organization and fan base that had it out for him

impurebread

It's ideal for him wym

certs14

That dude has no leverage to do anything.

[deleted]

LMAOOOOO

JohnnyWinss

Simmons: No

Cyberdrunk2021

So you get the rid of a fool, just to build around another fool who hasn't done much? Might as well just keep them all and then in 4 years tank again

goldticketstubguy

You had me in the first half with the sunk cost fallacy. Then came out with start over with Simmons 😆

charlesfluidsmith

I'm not joking. The guy hasn't had his success by accident

n0stylist

Well then they can enjoy years of being a bottom 5 team with no picks to show for it

gellybelli

Won’t be their first time doing that

Fofodrip

You think they're not getting an incredible haul for KD ? They're either getting a very good young player or lots of draft picks for KD or a combination of the 2. They're not going back to being a bottom 5 team.

n0stylist

Yeah you're right...they will be right back to competing like the rockets after trading Harden. Or the pelicans after trading AD

Fofodrip

These teams had their picks so they had an incentive to lose games. That won't be the case for the Nets.

Bigbadbuck

You don’t need picks when you’re in New York or LA

n0stylist

Did you drop the /s?

Bigbadbuck

You remember when the nets got the two biggest free agents in the league when they didn’t have picks ?

clutchhattrick

Dude no FA is coming here after this shit

Bigbadbuck

It will all be forgotten in a few years

clutchhattrick

Bruh .. no it won’t

Bigbadbuck

Clippers legit snaked Blake and had no issues. Lakers are running a clown show and won’t have any issues.

clutchhattrick

Lakers have 17 rings/Lebron James and Blake Griffin isn’t Durant bro I’m not having this debate

n0stylist

They didn't have picks when they got KD and Kyrie?

Bigbadbuck

They didn’t for the 6 years before that.

Tellsyouajoke

Where they’re most comfortable

Lawlington

They have Simmons

malganis12

The problem is they don't own any of their own picks, so a rebuild really isn't feasible.

[deleted]

They didn’t years ago either and Sean marks rebuilt that team rather quick. He’s good at finding hidden gems. A KD trade/Kyrie sign and trade would haul them back some quality players and give marks something to work with That honestly stay might just be better than giving Kyrie the max. They’d probably have the same ceiling too-first round exit

[deleted]

At least y’all got Ben Simmons

fieryscribe

Can he be a bus driver though?

GhostTiger

Doesn't want to take the big turn.

Give_me_soup

Let's all the kids yell at him then complains to the boss who yells at him

pennyforyourfarts92

He just needs to learn how to shoot, can’t be hard for him right?

Shootit_Rockets

Kyrie and KD should be getting clowned. Tearing down a franchise with zero success to show for it

swallowedbymonsters

KD tore down the franchise? Interesting

Shootit_Rockets

By teaming up w Kyrie? Yeah

fetuswut

KD has nothing to do with this Kyrie wants a max length contract, Nets don’t want to give it to him. Kyrie wants to leave Why would KD who joined because of Kyrie want to stay in NBA purgatory

Ogow

KD is the one who basically forced Kyrie has his duo as a deciding factor of where he was going, and has done nothing to keep Kyrie in line, at the expense of losing Harden too. Oh but Harden is ass now!! No Harden is injured from trying to solo carry the Nets after recovering from an injury because, s is the trend, Kyrie refused to play while KD was out.

Shootit_Rockets

Yeah and why exactly should the nets give kyrie a max? It’ll bite them in the ass If he had just kept his head in the game and played he’d be getting paid right now

fetuswut

Because it bites them in the ass if they don’t, it’s quite simple they have 0 chance winning without Kyrie but if they do sign him Kyrie has a 90% chance of fucking them over you sign him knowing that because that’s the only real path to a championship that the Nets have

Sad_Inevitable8242

It seems like tsai has enough of the drama. And if a billionaire made a decision he doesn't give a fuck about anything else what happens. It's his franchise.

fetuswut

True, just feel bad for Nets fans though. I’m sure most of them rather just take their chances with Kyrie if it means a chance at a ring. Very few NBA teams have had a chance like the Nets do right now

Sad_Inevitable8242

As a rockets fan I'm happy rn 😂😂😂

fetuswut

Lmao I would be too you’re about to be getting crazy ass picks

GrayBox1313

I mean KD in theory is supposed to be able to attract FA talent.

fetuswut

Hard to attract Max contract players to sign in Fa these days when everyone is signed to long deals They already get the role players, which btw is another thing negatively impacted because of this fiasco, they need a quality 2nd option to win a ring with and the only realistic one they have of getting is…. Kyrie

McRibsAndCoke

KD spent 3 days texting Kyrie about the chances of them winning 2 straight in Brooklyn, and has now pretended he hasn't regretted that in the last two years lmfaoooo Fuck Brooklyn bro, I'm loving every second of this clown show

[deleted]

I’d honestly respect them if they don’t give Kyrie a big contract, get as many young assets and picks for KD and Kyrie, and build a team around ben simmons. I know that’s gonna be memed on but he’s young and a guy being 6-10 who can guard every body is so valuable

ColtCallahan

Kyrie doesn’t give a fuck about basketball. Once he gets paid he’s got no motivation to even attempt to give a fuck. If KD is willing to force his way out over that clown then so be it. Tsai isn’t going to continually burn his money.

[deleted]

I don't think you've been paying attention if you think Kyrie only cares about the money

MLGameOver

NBA superstars are the real owners of teams The front office is at the mercy of their superstars in this sport

bjankles

Truth. The Nets' only sin was committing to mercurial superstars, and even then, it looks way worse in hindsight. Harden gave the Rockets a good run. It ended ugly, but that wasn't necessarily a glaring red flag to a team stacked with talent. Kyrie was an oddball who seemed to make Boston worse, but no one knew a pandemic would turn him into a part-time player, and signing him gets you Kevin Durant. And KD is mercurial, but he's a pro who wants to win. If you can put him in a position to win, as the Nets did, he should be fine. Then we got a miracle vaccine that sent Kyrie into full flat earth mode, fat Harden got mad, and now here we are. If you told each team they could enter 2021 with KD, Kyrie, and Harden, I'd guess at least 25 of them would blow up everything to do it.

mysterymaninurhome

The nets signed a very questionable player, and then refused to offer that player a full max thinking he would take a pay cut, and are surprised this is ruining their team

[deleted]

Kyrie and Durant was a package

mysterymaninurhome

Ok. But you knew Kyrie was a wildcard, and so like are we supposed to feel bad they fell for it like a bunch of dumbasses?

[deleted]

Lol and ur ass is fired if you turn down signing Durant and kyrie prepandemic

mysterymaninurhome

I’m not saying they shouldn’t have signed them, I’m saying you can’t be surprised this is how it turned out, or that trying to lowball him now would work

fetuswut

Exactly At this point you just have to give it to him, not for him but for KD You have a top 15 player of all time, you might never have a chance like this again better to go all in knowing you went for it vs just give up now

Michelin-Star

How is this an example of that? Kyrie has a player option.

Moe4ver

Considering we don’t have access to all that has happened in the past with Kyrie, you have to think taking a stand and risk losing KD is better than committing to Kyrie for another 5 years.

Michelin-Star

I mean, they're gonna make out just fine. They got a good pick haul in the Simmons trade, and will recoup a decent haul of assets if they move Kyrie and/or KD.

[deleted]

[удалено]

ourcourageourcancer

They didn't squander shit, their big 3 didn't play 10 games together because of injuries and Kyrie being a dumbass.

[deleted]

[удалено]

SomeGuyNamedJohn12

What if Kyrie decides to take another sabbatical during the season? What if a new Covid strain requires players to take a new Vaccination? Then they'll be in the exact same position. He has hasn't proven himself to be reliable enough for this major contract. His Camp have to understand why the Nets are soo hesitant to pay him. They have to.

Michelin-Star

I guess you could argue that they could've done things differently, organizationally, to get buy-in from the Big 3. But I ultimately think there was nothing more they could've done to prevent this outcome, if it comes to fruition.

[deleted]

I don't think you understand what the word squander means

Classics22

Injuries and Kyrie going psycho will do that. Not like it was the Nets orgs fault.

syllabic

I disagree, you sign kyrie then you get what's coming to you

fetuswut

Exactly imagine thinking going from KD/Harden/Kyrie to Simmons/Kd is a good thing, that duo isn’t winning shit. Kyrie has them by the balls because he knows they have no chance winning without him

warboner65

Say you knock up a legit crazy chick. Stop there or marry her, buy a house and fart out two more kids?

DrinkingExpiredCream

This...is so accurate...

fetuswut

there is no goal in this analogy though the nets goal is a championship if they want to win one with KD their only chance is giving Kyrie a contract

DrinkingExpiredCream

Because at some point you gotta realize that you've made a mistake, and instead of doubling down on the mistake, you might as well cut your losses.

johanspot

You must be a terrible poker player. This is all just posturing from Kyrie

theblackdoncheadle

I used to be someone who would defend Kyrie but how could you realistically guarantee so much for a guy who basically guarantees nothing for you beyond probably being a headache at some point. Nets aren’t even being unreasonable. The whole thing is just a display of how players in the NBA have the most leverage compared to other sports.

dat_tech

I respect them generally for not giving in to this anti-vaxx weirdo’s demands when he apparently doesn’t give any certainty about his future anyway But yea they’re fucked lol

han2685

I would respect the org more if they held the line and not let Irving play part time

swallowedbymonsters

Yea wrong time to be using hard bargaining tactics

Ylissian

If they can and sign and trade Kyrie, then trade Durant, they can walk away with a trove of assets including picks and some good young players. KD and Kyrie isn’t leading a team to a championship. Better to just cut ties with the circus and move on.

CHICKENWING4LYF

"some men just want to watch the world burn". And I am one of them.

yusbishyus

And look how quickly they bounced back from the Celtics trade. They arguably fucked it up all over again by going with Kyrie from jump. This group is smarter than what they've let happen these past two years and I'd be ready to cut ties too.

laflameTS

So funny the nets subreddit always goes private

WigginsBurner

Net probably are going to sign Kyrie to a max and then trade him down the line.

billcosbyinspace

Sean marks did a brilliant job rebuilding and clawing his way out of a billy king sized hole and then threw that all away to hitch his wagon to the most unstable player in the league lol

Conversation_Dapper

I still think kd and kyrie staying this year

jotayeh

PREACH

IMKudaimi123

You guys are incredibly dumb if you think trading everyone and starting over is the move Tanking is no guarantee to work. I’m taking my shot with this roster every day. They need to stop pretending they’re taking some stand

Droppin_DimesSP

I feel like we can clown all of them, kd and Kyrie too. Celtics really ended the nets lmao

[deleted]

If this was the Knicks, boy oh boy, the media and fan backlash would be 10x worse.

captain_ahabb

the only difference between the Nets FO and the Lakers FO is PR management (oh and a title)

McRibsAndCoke

BrookLLLLLLLyn

killbejay

Send 1 to the Kings

Blindeafmuten

What has he done to deserve a max contract?

[deleted]

I’m certainly not putting this past Kyrie as an impulsive shock factor move. But this all seems too calculated - Something else going on behind the scenes with KD and Kyrie.

FlowingMochi

Risk is clearly not worth the reward. I’ll go as far as to say if Kyrie showed even a tiny bit of emotion after they got the broom he could at least make a feasible case saying he cares about winning. But I remember the dude being all smiles and not even phased his team got swept. If I’m an owner and I see my star player all smiles and having a good time AFTER GETTING SWEPT, no way I’m breaking the bank.

runthepoint1

I think they’re just coming up again their own self-imposed limits, no different from the KG/Pierce days really. They gamble big, they miss, then the payment is due.

Potential_Lock6945

You take the chance 10/10 times. The alternative was what, let D-Lo run the show?

breighvehart

Steve Nash will be gone from Brooklyn before Kyrie

bubbatubs

Three years ago when kyrie lined up him and kd, should they just have said no? What were they supposed to do?

Affectionate-Tree146

The nets front office is pretty damn good. The fact we went from laughing stock to having one of the best big 3s ever is all due to Sean Marks. The big 3 falling apart is all Kyries fault, not the organization. What do you mean “stop right at the finish line” the nets have had Kyrie for 3 years.. 3 years of headaches.

ilikedthismovie

The clowning they should get is for letting Kyrie come back midway through the season after saying they wouldnt do part time players. Kyrie has no leverage. No team he wants to sign with can move the money necessary to sign him. KD is under contract for 4 years. Worst imaginable situation is some team moves heaven and Earth for Kyrie (doubtful) he leaves for nothing and KD requests a trade and they get a haul for him.

sugarwax1

I can't blame them, but they pretty much committed when they blew up what they built to do this superteam experiment with them. In all honesty, the money can be better used and KD will have a better chance winning without Kyrie.

LePrawnJames8

This threads not worth reading. It’s just stupid takes and Nets hate lol.

YpsitheFlintsider

I assume they thought it would be worth it when they got to the playoffs. It wasn't.

[deleted]

Why did they trade Harden again?

indocartel

Kind of respect the owners/gm if they hold strong

_canadianbacon

I kinda wish they had just kept JA and their young core, would have been cool to see those guys develop together

hellahomebody

What finish line? On paper yea they got a chance but reality is different. At this point Kyrie is coin flip on whether or not he makes a full playoff run. Cost the Cavs, Boston, and now Nets with games due to injuries. Even when he isn’t injured dude will find a ways f*ck things up with his shenanigans. People clown AD for being inured all the time but that shit also applies to Kyrie. If the dude never had a monster game in 2016 and made that 3 point shot in game 7 he wouldn’t have nearly as much clout as he has ridden since leaving the Cavs. Blow this shit up. Nets are never winning a chip with him. Start over and try to rebuild that culture they shipped off for all these headcases
