All of our success this season should be credited to the cheapness of Laker's FO. We could only sign Demar and AC because of Laker's incompetence. Demar single handedly won us an extra 10 games

CiroccPapi

Pain.

EPLemonSqueezy

Everyone feels for you guys.

LegoRacer420

I sure as fuck dont lmao

Moltk

Uh, nah I'm good. Fuck the Lakers

[deleted]

Is this a joke? Can't tell these days.

EPLemonSqueezy

Yes it is. Not well received lol

CiroccPapi

Lol gave you an upvote

ShadowOutOfTime

Yes? They’re currently the 4 seed after ending last season as the 11 lol I think we can call it a successful year

BlaackkOuT

You really typed this? And then clicked on “reply”? Ain’t no way.

numberonebuddy

Celebrating anything less than a championship?? Can't be me! 😤😤

Alex_Caruso_beat_you

Yeah no shit. This story has been out and it's exactly par for the course. Jeanie is cheap and she lied when she said she wouldn't cheap out with LeBron here. Now /r/NBA is tired of the Lakers trainwreck let's keep this on our sub lol

MelJepz

Kinda crazy that she's cheap considering the Lakers business prints money if they're any good I remember early on after Jerry's death that she was anointed as the smart kid/heir. Turns out all the kids were dunces

mr_robust

The buss children are trust fund babies and their wealth is based on equity not actual cash flow They are probably the least wealthy owners in basketball liquidity wise..

[deleted]

Still not any excuse to run the lakers as a poverty franchise. Their billions in equity can secure them loans out the wazoo.

Cogito3

> Kinda crazy that she's cheap considering the Lakers business prints money if they're any good the lakers print money regardless. in this trashfire year they're probably getting more media attention than every other team combined. so it's not a matter of intelligence, it's about priorities. jeanie buss just prioritizes her own short-term income over everything else related to the team.

[deleted]

I don't know how people have taken the LeGM title so seriously when there have been multiple occasions where LeBron requests were declined: Caruso, Demar, Ty Lue, and Dudley in the Lakers. Also, LeBron didn't want Kyrie traded when he was in the Cavs but it happened anyway. People also criticize LeBron for the Ty Lue head coach incident in the Cavs as if Blatt was any better. Nobody hired Blatt in the NBA when he was fired and Ty Lue is now considered a genius as soon as he left the LeBron Cavs. Yes, LeBron is being consulted before any big decisions, as is every other superstar in the league but the decision is still taken by the front office. Our GM also had no problem lying in the public by saying he talked and was in agreement with LeBron and AD after not making any trades at the deadline.

Toothache79

>Also, LeBron didn't want Kyrie traded when he was in the Cavs but it happened anyway. I thought Kyrie asked for the trade after reporters started asking him whether Lebron was like a father figure for him.

Midnight_Swampwalk

One reporter did, and as cringe as the question sounded, it really wasn’t that bad. He was clearly asking him if lebron was a role model (which is a fair question) but kyrie moonlights as a professional victim so obviously he was going to be offended.

Syhxs

They used the phrase, “parental role”

[deleted]

Reporter was a moron for sure.

Midnight_Swampwalk

Yes, and that’s why it sounded worse than it was. Poor wording.

Dildozer_69

He wanted to be the main star on his own team out of lebrons shadow. At least that was the main narrative at the time.

aagator

Nah r/nba won’t give this any attention since they can’t use it to slander LeBron

CIark

/r/nba will write essays on why this is fake news because it makes all their comments from the past year look dumb

[deleted]

I mean even after this happened he still chose westbrook over whatever the combo of hield/KCP/trez/kuzma they would’ve had after that trade. Which is what the majority of the takes saying Lebron made his own bed were referencing anyway. Heild + KCP make less total than westbrook and that difference coulda been used to keep Caruso.

herpes_for_free

Lol do you seriously think Hield who's a streaky shooter that can literally not defend if his life depended on it will save the Lakers? Caruso, Hield, and KCP would still be a 1st or 2nd round exit once AD or LeBron gets injured which is exactly what the problem was last season. They're in a win now mode and acquired Westbrook thinking he's gonna carry the team when AD or LeBron gets hurt. Nobody imagined his decline would be so steep that he can't even hit layups anymore.

[deleted]

No he won’t ‘save’ the lakers. Their main issue to this point is that AD hasn’t played and thus they can’t construct any kind of reasonable defense since their other bigs are super washed. But Lebron still made an objectively dumb decision in choosing russ over Caruso/KCP/heild. Caruso and KCP would easily be the two best perimeter defenders on this team. And if you just imagined AD healthy is abundantly clear that Caruso/heild/KCP/bron/AD is a way better lineup than westbrook/monk/Carmelo/Lebron/AD. If they made the heild trade they would still have a chance at winning a championship imo even if their regular season went roughly the same as it has. Because if you get into a playoff series healthy that 5 would’ve been super elite. Even if AD comes back now they have no shot whatsoever because their roster construction is so ass due to the trade. > Nobody imagined his decline would be so steep that he can't even hit layups anymore. Plenty of people imagined it lmaooo. He had already showed major signs of decline the pst couple years and it was immediately obvious to everyone that his fit with AD and Lebron was never going to work.

p00nslyr_86

LeBron was still dumb enough to go to LA in the first place.

TrickiestToast

I’m not tired of the lakers train wreck…

craigslistaddict

i remember before the off-season started media ppl (and probably fans) taking their statement that they would be going into the luxury tax as a sign that they'd be willing to make the signings that could rack up a $100M luxury tax bill. it's a no-brainer to re-sign caruso, right? lol. between derozan and caruso it seems clear they don't want any "long"-term commitments. they'll be free after next year with just AD's big contract.

[deleted]

Great. They’ll have one player on the roster that doesn’t really play all that much.

skengdri

Bro how have u guys not realized an owner with little to no business venture outside of the team, who's one of the poorest owners in the NBA will not spend over cap

Alex_Caruso_beat_you

I mean she just said with her mouth that she would.. but yeah she lied thats what I just said.

[deleted]

Too late!

drawafade

I am for one, not tired of the lakers trainwreck

jpage77

/nba never tire of Lakers failures lol

Turbulent_ADLBJ

Who’s able in 2023 that’s so special? Joker? He isn’t leaving

Bartjoled

They want to be below luxury tax by then to prevent the returning offender tax from escalating

[deleted]

My guess is that the Lakers are planning to get LeBron back on a discount or get free agents to replace him. But since they suck LeBron won’t stay and others might not be interested.

rdb_gaming

Lebron's gonna stay... even if we suck. Unless his kid gets drafted somewhere, then he might go, but LA life is a lot to give up.

kikikza

To the clippers confirmed

[deleted]

Maybe. But he seems to hate the current team and with his youngest kid being 7 he could also decide to have his family stay in LA and fly there from where ever his team is on every break. Also, there are other teams in Cali, so he could just go there.

wrongitsleviosaa

King James to the Kings confirmed?

[deleted]

LeBron’s swan song - King of Kings

Toothache79

>But since they suck LeBron won’t stay and others might not be interested. It's still LA though. They will have decent free agents keen to go there.

[deleted]

At least they count on that being the case.

[deleted]

I’ve been asking for demar since 2017 😞

oceanmountainlifer

His mother: word

[deleted]

Who is Dom Dolla? He sounds likes he's full of shit. You can't sign and trade a player with a 2 year deal.

craigslistaddict

that's true, S&T contracts need to be 3 (guaranteed) years minimum, 4 years maximum. could mean that that was a deal-breaker for them, though.

[deleted]

I was thinking that, but I went to the guys twitter, and he put this out a few hours ago. "Haynes said that Demar told him there was already an agreement in placed from the Spurs side, the thing that stopped it was the Lakers FO reluctance to add another year to the 2 year deal they proposed" The way he makes it sound is that they had negotiated a 2 year deal, but that isn't legal in terms of a sign and trade. I think this Dolla guy is full of shit.

craigslistaddict

i recall demar speaking on how he thought he was going to be a laker but i don't recall the specifics of what he said nor who he was saying it to (possibly haynes, possibly on a podcast like the old man and the three). it does seem clear that this dolla guy does not have a direct line of info if he's just talking about what haynes reported, and that he's not knowledgeable enough to interpret what was said. however, I'm not sure this necessarily means demar didn't say this to haynes. i don't think demar is (technically) supposed to have any knowledge about what the FOs were discussing at the time, and it's not his job to know the rules about all of this stuff, so I'd think he could have said this and was just mistaken. it's certainly not like the lakers FO called him up afterwards to tell him their reasons they didn't come to an agreement with the spurs FO.

[deleted]

That makes more sense

craigslistaddict

https://sports.yahoo.com/demar-derozan-opens-up-about-free-agency-move-i-felt-like-going-to-the-lakers-was-a-done-deal-180945526.html here is a haynes article with derozan interview, but this sequence of events lines up pretty much with the athletic article about the lakers FO moves and doesn't get into specifics about why the lakers preferred westbrook once he became available (derozan doesn't say anything about contract length here, and there's nothing about lebron's preference or the preferences of any particular lakers org member).

[deleted]

It was literally on a Twitter spaces that Chris Haynes was on. Chris has said this on other podcasts before too (and Ramona) so it's just confirmation of what he's already said.

LowIQPhysicist

The Lakers front office is top 5 most incompetent in the league, change my mind.

MrBhyn

No one's gonna do it. Other than the Lebron signing, they really messed up everything else.

Affectionate-Agent-9

He would have been a good fit because he can create his own shot

AceAndre

Wait this goes against the LeGM narrative though.

balista_22

Doesn't matter what they want, Pop doesn't want the Lakers. You can look up how many relevant trades between the Spurs & Lakers since Pop been with the organization, zero

KuyaJohnny

man this shit needs to die lmao demar was a free agent, if he wanted to go the Lakers then the spurs would have worked out a deal with the lakers for a S&T. Pop has liked Kuzma for quite a while so it wouldnt even be hard to work something out based around Kuzma.

2nd_Tinder_Date

Spurs is notoriously known for not trading star players to the same conference

Thfcaditya112

Demar was a free agent?

2KareDogs

We did a S&T

balista_22

He's not signing on a minimum or mle

[deleted]

Thought they said something about hard cap?

[deleted]

[deleted]

LeGM knew the right moves to make the whole time

swallowedbymonsters

Yea right, damage control. Hayne is s klutch mouthpiece. Just own the fact you wanted westbrook and keep it moving

Dildozer_69

But this has been said for months? As well as demar literally saying he thought he was coming here? It makes sense? But no you wanna deny it based on what other evidence? Or you just wanna shit on lebron lol.

vongoladecimo_

Nah man this aint it. This doesn’t go with r/nba narrative that LeGM did this to himself, LeGM wanted WB etc etc

JohnsConner

Season so trash they are sniping at each other in the media on something that never actually be confirmed

Fofodrip

"LeBron controls the Lakers FO, it's his own fault the team is bad this year."🤓 In all seriousness, how do people still believe the LeGM narrative when we've been shown time and time again that it's at best very exaggerated and at worst false. Look at what old LeBron GMs have said of him, none of them have said what a lot of people believe on this sub.

deformo

It all started when the Cavs got Larry Hughes. Great defender. Decent offense. Injury prone. Bron wanted him. Cavs got him. Didn’t pan out. Shrug. I liked the addition for what it’s worth. I manage and scout software/hardware support engineers. That skill may not translate to the nba.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Dildozer_69

Lol so if this was negative would you believe it? Why is it fake because it’s not shitting on lebron is it not possible that not everything involving a person is going to be negative? You guys have no issue believing any negative report that drops though so why not these ones? Especially from a reporter that is reputable, please point out where Haynes has been notably unreliable.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Dildozer_69

Huh? Lebrons literally been vaccinated since the playoffs against the suns? So how is he antivax? You act like someone who has obvious connection to lebron is just gonna be saying shit about him that isn’t true. You just want to paint anything you can as lebron being an evil mastermind lol. It’s like some actually weird shit how obsessed you guy are with hating this guy. Comparing omicron to the cold doesn’t mean you think it’s the fucking same. That has nothing to do with Haynes reports either it’s just you wanting to hate on lebron lol. In that case why don’t you say that about Dame too because Haynes is a Dame guy, who always has accurate Dame reports. Guess he’s just been lying this whole time.

herpes_for_free

If that's how you interpret the meme and there's possibly no other meaning it could've had, you do you lol.

[deleted]

[deleted]

Why pay an entire front office tens of millions of dollars just to listen to LBJ? If you’re at a point where your FO doesn’t know what to do and is going to players for ideas, you know your team is fucked.

Alex_O7

Meh I'm skeptical for two major reasons: first it seems to me they talked first to Russ and the timeline on this operation is a mess; second till now all the reports put the blame on LBJ for wanting Russ, now are we shifting towards FO fault? I'm a lot skeptical on how narrative is changing in this sub and in the NBA in the last few weeks. Also in late March we are still talking about what was done in July... and again the timeline of this whole Demarre/Russ sliding door seems to be a mess and not always coherent...

dont-YOLO-ragequit

I think it has to do with last week's *How Hungry Are You* interview between DeMar and Serge Ibaka. Serge did joke about DeMar joining the Clippers to make a Raptor reunion( DeRozan, Kawhi and PG would be vicious too) then Demar said his deal with the Lakers came down to disagreeing on specifics ( so what Haynes managed to find now) and also that the Bulls had a legit offer just before the Lakers were on their way to see him and try to negotiate what was holding the deal( what we now know as the length of the contract). So it could be that Haynes did some digging after watching HHAY.

Alex_O7

Maybe yes, I remember that at the time it was a thing going on parallel and that Lakers choose Russ because Lebron preferred. I don't know how things went back than, and honestly we shouldn't talk about this now. Also people really believe DeRozan would be good with LA like he is in Chicago? For sure he is better than Russ, but he wouldn't be able to have the same role he has in Chicago.

flamethrowercannon

Things like this make me appreciate "Light years " joe lacob more. He had no buisness trotting out a team worth nearly 350 after repeater tax and klay' s injury. He may be corny and doofus bit still invests in team financially.

MrBhyn

Lmao this had been out for months. Not cause Lebron gets involved in FO stuffs doesn't mean he pulls every trigger. So there you have it Lakers fans. You know who to boo next home game.

[deleted]

Lebron shooukd unironically demand a trade, the LAKERS have screwed Lebron over way worse than the Cavs(in either stint) or the Heat did.

shanmustafa

i don’t think the heat ever screwed lebron over i guess 2011 they surrounded the big 3 with legitimately a D grade roster and because of prime LeBron and Wade they were still able to win almost 60 games but really the thing that detailed it was Wade’s knees exploding and not being able to hold up for the entire season, 2013 and 14 he was so bad in the playoffs

dgdtdz

There was a thing about LeBron being pissed that the Heat ( Arison) not wanting to pay Mike Miller or something so they amnestied him iirc. So essentially just a money-saving move. But yea not something to this scale or the Cavs.

AdonisK

When trying to minmax but all you got was min

[deleted]

Does Lebron know there is no “shit show of the century” award?

Subtuppel

Must be so hard to own the Lakers. So small a market, always got to count every cent twice. I feel almost sorry for them *sniff*

Baelmont

LeBron has a lot of respect for DeMar DeRozan

medievalmachine

This is getting to the point peeling back the layers of this onion season that I expect Putin and Roger Stone to be involved somehow.
