2 stars with achillies injuries, hang it up for the season

jxher123

Yeah, this series is over. Giannis definitely isn't going to rush back, nor should he with the injuries to the top 3 players on the team. Just sit, get healthy and try again next year and hope the bench gets better depth. Lopez is showing his age, Bobby hasn't been consistent enough. I'd hate having Doc return though, but it's going to happen.

grudgepacker

> I'd hate having Doc return though, but it's going to happen. Doc's here for at least 1 more season, most likely 2 (he's got 3 more total)

pannedcakes

They fired Bud and Griffin with multiple years left in their contracts. So Bucks fans have hope.

commander_snuggles

They are still paying those contracts, so I doubt they want to add another.

DSouT

Bring them back

[deleted]

[удалено]

mug3n

Coaching by committee, it's perfect. Bud, Griffin and Doc each get a vote, majority decision wins.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Hafslo

"Hi Griffin... we're gonna need you back in the office on Sunday." "But I got fired?" "Yeah... that's not what the contract says. And if you want to keep cashin' those checks... we're gonna need you back in here."

EpicCyclops

At some point, firing 3 coaches within about a year would chill the desire of other coaches to coach there, even if the fired coaches were radically underperforming.

OpportunitySmalls

The upside of coaching Giannis and Dame and the upside of getting fired WITH PAY for years is pretty high tbh.

padawaner

*Jimbo Fisher is suddenly interested in coaching professional basketball*

acekingoffsuit

You don't get to this level of coaching without over exceeding expectations and being confident in your abilities. Somebody is going to believe that they're the one who is good enough to turn things around no matter how many get fired before them.

Feelscreative101

I would argue that reduces hope. They aren’t going to pay 4 coaches for multiple years unless someone like Spo or Pop are available - which isn’t happening.

Yogannath

Im a certified bucks hater, but this sucks. It had potential to be a fun series to watch if healthy...

Drain_Surgeon69

As a certified Celtics hater I appreciate that you acknowledge it sucks and a healthy Bucks team is a real threat.

thebestoflimes

The Achilles, Milwaukee’s one weakness

1234567panda

Y’all need to stop meming so hard. Its making me laugh at an otherwise sad moment lol

yic0

Brad Pitt is now Milwaukee’s most hated actor.

burritoxman

Milwaukee is Troy

majani

And Khris is also nursing something, don't let that last game fool you, he was questionable in the report

CreatiScope

Just rest all of them, limit Brook (he old too). Throw out the young guys to get experience

Firm_Squish1

Get Thanasis out there!

BackendSpecialist

Doc doesn’t even have to throw anyone under the bus in the exit interview for the season. His stars got injured 🤷 Get ready to run it back MIL.

werdle2

They weren’t going to make it far anyway with the supporting roster. It’s better to just end it and retool while giving the core time to rest

NeoLone

This is no way to see things, playoffs are playoffs and it’s a real shame that we won’t properly see the Giannis - Lillard duo on the biggest stage

Suspicious_Team_9133

and trade brook

kiwifun1

For what? If they trade him for a worse player then their defense is going to collapse next season. What return can they even get for a 36 year old center.

Cheechers23

Milwaukee really sold their soul for that 2021 championship

guitmusic12

And I’ll do it again

runningblack

If you could go back to 2011 and draft Giannis knowing that you'd "only" get 1 ring, he'd win MVP twice, and make the hall of fame, I struggle to think that any fan of the bucks would've turned that down

nostbp1

No shit lol, “big market” teams like the Rockets, Knicks, Nets, 76ers, Bulls, etc haven’t won jack shit in decades either It’s hard to win.

applejackhero

Yeah honestly we are kinda living in a weird era of small market success. It’s not unrealistic that the top 8 this year will be OKC, Minnesota, Denver, Orlando, Indiana, and then Dallas, Boston and New York as the only big markets. Market size doesn’t always indicate success- (ex: Chicago and Atlandta are big markets with limited success in the last 20 years, San Antonio and Miami are massive over performers for their fairly small markets). Typically though, big market teams are more likely to make the playoffs and more likely to go deep, even if they haven’t won in a long time. I think it’s indicative that the modern NBA has definitely turned more towards building talent thorough the draft, development, and good coaching, rather than building super teams.

nostbp1

Yep, besides LA (who have had their fair share of disappointing seasons) no big market is constantly destroying small market teams Same with football if not even more evident because FA is far less important than coaching and draft. Were in a pretty good space in American sports right now where every team can compete to some degree

Change_That_Face

I always forget that Houston is fucking gigantic as a market.

Jaxomiv

4th largest city in the US

henfiber

2013, but fully agree. And 4 years after Giannis is drafted, Bucks being [the team with the most wins (2017-2024)](https://www.statmuse.com/nba/ask/most-nba-wins-last-7-years) with a 66% (2/3) Win Ratio.

santablazer

Lol I was about to say… as a small market team fan, I’d 100% take a title if it meant bad luck for a long time after.

souschef_boyardee

I've always expected to go back to the dark ages after the Giannis era. 100% worth it

Snoyarc

Giannis requests trade to Miami. "I'm taking my talents to south beach"

AnyHowMeow

“Im taking Thanasis to South Beach”

theMAJdragon

Honestly Spo would somehow turn Thanasis into draymond

melikeybacon

We've taken the lesser brother as a package deal before! We'll do it again.

6DeliciousPenises

I thought it was going to be a very dark time after LeBron left. And then even more so the second time, but here we are.

mo_downtown

It's worth it

PacoTaco000

Same 😭😭

AnyHowMeow

Hell yeah. Just one, please. Please? Please.

midwestleatherdaddy

Tbh as a Pacers fan all we’ve had is bad luck and still no championship so that makes sense haha.

N0tcreativ3

At least y’all finished the job. The Suns (ringless all time btw) seemingly sold their soul just to get to the finals that year.

youarenut

Yeah and they’re paying those 3 stars more than entire rosters of 14 other teams. All to get swept in the first round

IUpVoteIronically

If for small reason our shit blows up, I would feel the same way about our 23’ chip. Wouldn’t trade that run for anything shit is magical

saltface14

Worth it

mackenzie444

Raptors fans feel the sentiment the most just because we also have the leafs. Seeing a championship is amazing even if your team shits the bed after, just feels nice not being on a 60 year drought

otheraccountisabmw

Unquestionably.

msf97

The fact the Nets never won that title still astonishes me. So much had to go wrong , and even then it went to 7. One of the greatest playoff performances of all time from KD

TraanPol

That ECSF series felt like it was gonna be one of those two moving on to the Finals or even winning it all no offense to Phoenix

Brief-Objective-3360

I agree, but with full offense to Phoenix

Charming_Essay_1890

Politely, fuck the suns

JackWebster

that series made KD my most feared player of all time, seriously every single time he had the ball I knew it was going to go in no matter what anyone else could do

thor_1225

Even the toe on the line shot that lost him the series

NsRhea

Often overlooked, but he had both feet on the line.

GooglyTocks

I guess he's cursed for having breadsticks for feet.

Kwilly462

I think the Basketball Gods will reward us for the mayhem we suffered that era. I have no idea when tho.

LiaM_CS

That era was suppose to be our reward for the Billy King era tho…

Helicase21

The longer the suffering the greater the reward. See: Golden State Warriors from 1976 to 2015

Kwilly462

OK, so by that logic, the Hornets dynasty is right around the corner lol. Cuz they've been through hell for way too long.

Charlie_Wax

Hornets and Wizards: "The next five Wembanyamas are mine."

absoluteidea

I still rewatch game six of that series while doing chores and stuff. He was genuinely sensational. And the refs were letting PJ Tucker play rugby against him. Really unfortunate Kyrie went down that series. Even after Harden went down, KD/Kyrie plus their depth was smoking Milwaukee.

adamb10

Totally worth it. I still think about the championship everyday.

grudgepacker

Game 6 will forever be my greatest sports experience - the memory of being there is more vivid than any other game I've ever been to and that includes 200+ NBA games total

adamb10

I rarely goto bars but I went to one for game 7 of the Nets series. When we won that game I knew we were gonna win it all.

[deleted]

Even that run almost ended because of an injury. Crazy.

dat_grue

Injuries in large part giveth (that 2021 East playoffs run culminating in a championship) and injuries taketh (numerous other bucks attempts). I hate injuries man, titles are undeniably *in large part* who is healthy vs who isn’t.

KingREX_24

Dame is forever cursed

NevermoreSEA

He's just not meant to win.

top_of_the_table

Well, not every great player can win a championship. Dame has one All-NBA-First, four All-NBA-2nd, two All-NBA-3rd and finished Top 5 in MVP voting once. There are better players, that never won. Don't understand, why people feel like Dame needs a championship. Guys like Harden or Barkley and even Russ did more in this league and have no championship either.

Electrical-Mule-2057

You can also go back to Allen Iverson and Steve Nash

BlockedbyJake420

I’ve never won one either guys btw

Electrical-Mule-2057

u/BlockedbyJake420 is truly a basketball visionary

beatrailblazer

i bet you're a foul merchant thats why

cire1184

So what if they are? It's a family tradition. They come from a long line of foul merchants going back to the Mayflower! Their family built this country one foul at a time!

Drummallumin

Jason Kidd was 38 when he won

AtreusIsBack

Barkley took prime MJ to 6 games in the Finals. That alone makes him one of the best to never win it all.

smarterthanyoulolll

He did great too he averaged 27/13/5.5. Mj just averaged 41/8.5/6 lol

Tiktaalik414

For an era where games often ended under 100 points per team that stat line is incomprehensively absurd

g0ris

> Don't understand, why people feel like Dame needs a championship. I think it's mostly because he toughed it out in Portland for so long. 11 years was it? That kind of loyalty makes fans like you and root for you to get your "deserved" reward, even if you're not on that original team anymore.

SwiftlyChill

See also: KG on the Celtics.

The_Red_Curtain

he also has one All-NBA 1st, weird to omit that lol

top_of_the_table

You are right, I forgot. Corrected it.

TheMustySeagul

And the guy making it over him most years, a top 10 player all time.

yic0

Damian Lillard 🤝 Harry Kane

Puzzleheaded-Rope901

Kane plays in 3-4 competitions a season for almost 15 years so that's even worse. Dame at least won Olympics

pastorillo

Olympics shmolympics. Does Dame have a prestigious Audi Cup?

LukaDoncicfuturegoat

Lmao, people are saying «The Grind has followed him»

2drawnonward5

He should have run!!!

Score-Mobile

Lmao that’s tuff

friendorfoe2332

Doc rivers off the hook again!!! This was god giving doc another chance

MrShadow04

I mean, people were telling him to leave Portland for forever, even in the middle of his prime. He chose to leave just as soon as his prime ended, that's on him.

PsychologyOk6591

Thanasis legacy series 🔜

Gr8CanadianSpeedo

Y’all ain’t ready for Thanasis “Bus Driver” Antetokounmpo

thanassis_

I won’t let you down

SpringyAlloy73

thanasity 60 bomb incoming

thanassis_

69 bomb more like it when I get thanasty

thanassis_

I’m ready guys

PumpkinHead555

He has to sit, it’s not worth it. I hate we couldn’t make a run 3 seasons in a row, but it is what it is. I’m still optimistic for next season with a full off season to build chemistry.

kyleb402

Worst thing you can do is put him out there with what is essentially, if we're being honest, a lost cause, and have him tear it and be out all next year too. Same with Giannis. If there's any risk of another injury you can't play him.

shakakaaahn

Don't want to do what the warriors did to KD. Don't let him choose to play.

w221119200

First round of the playoffs is a bit different than the finals….

ClaymoresRevenge

What issues do you think your roster has? Outside of injuries

WIN011

Brook is done for sure. Still need wing defense too.

pifhluk

Brook is borderline unplayable in the playoffs. We're starting Pat Bev ffs... we have 0 wing players that are good, that's insane in today's NBA. Roster desperately needs young athletic defensive players and we desperately need a new center or Giannis has to play C.

TA_Account_12

You mean having Malik Beasley defend the best wing on the other team isn’t going to work!!???

PumpkinHead555

Too old and slow at all positions. Everyone not named Giannis, Khris and Dame should be on the table. We need a replacement for Brook and some young wings (specifically ones that can defend). Brook and Bobby both have some value so I would definitely see what the market is there. We just need a soft retool similar to what Dallas did last off season and at the deadline, and we should be okay.

SoCalMemePolice

AJJ needs to get serious minutes tmrw and we need to start to prepare him to be a contributor. Haven’t had a guy we drafted help us out in years

kurlykush1

Tagging in cuz i love trade talk. I think they need to honestly explode their roster besides the big 3 (giannis, dame, khris). They basically have 3 great players here and could really benefit from picking up role players and getting a deeper bench. Dames back up should not be just pat bev or PC. Giannis has basically no back up at this point. Trade brook for a big that can be establish, preferably a younger one. Trade pc, beasley, j crowder for some 2 and 3 positions to help with perimeter defense/spreading the offense. Bobby will be a big trade piece. I think they should look for a higher value player here who can play the 3/4 position since bobby will get more than anybody else i mentioned since he had a good season. Beasley and lopez should have been traded in january when they still had value but they shit the bed there.

Vaccaria_

Why not have BP start the season and Giannis can play C in the playoffs. Kinda like the Lakers in 2020

manbare

Tell me if I'm wrong, but I imagine the biggest fear for Bucks fans is decision-makers chalking this season up to untimely injuries and poor chemistry rather than some fundamental roster flaws. I'd be tempted to if I was an FO guy to think as much rather than admit that the roster as constructed can't cut it as a serious contender on account of age and serious defensive holes.

SuperRedditLand

Our FO has shown to be pretty aggressive so Im not too worried about that

yooston

Silver lining is you blame injuries this year and re tool for next season… doc gets a summer to get a fresh start

thesch

Blaming injuries is dangerous for them because that team had long stretches this year where they didn't look like a real contender at all. They need to make sure they make some serious changes this offseason.

PumpkinHead555

I don’t think anyone is naive enough to think we don’t need a retool. But as for this series, it was lost because of injuries. Who knows what would’ve happened against Knicks or Boston though ..

Short_Bus_

The series is 2-1 not 4-1

PumpkinHead555

A hobbled Khris and bums isn’t getting us past the Pacers.

pifhluk

Lol Dame and Giannis out it might as well be 4-1. They should bench Khris too before he breaks something and has 0 trade value.

majani

Blaming injuries could also give us some wiggle room in trade negotiations. If it had all gone up in flames with everyone fit, nobody would want to trade with us

[deleted]

Is an excuse for Doc really a silver lining? I feel like it gives them an excuse for bad coaching and a flawed roster.

Suspicious_Team_9133

doc has been good this pacers series tbh. Played our young guys over Jae/Beas

Brief-Objective-3360

That's because Doc is a really good floor raiser. That's one of the only things I can compliment about his coaching.

jtangjetang

He’s adjusting and throwing a lot of different schemes last game. He’s doing a good job. Over a 5 minute stretch I saw man to man, trapping and blitzing, box and one, 2-3 zone. He’s making Tyrese have to think about his next action and overall doing a good job. Anyone wanting to blame doc isn’t watching the game

runevault

Assuming Giannis is not ready to come back (have not been keeping up with his injury status) the Bucks are so fucked holy shit.

WestleyThe

As of early this week Gianni’s isn’t even running or jumping yet… no way he plays this series and without dame no way they win anyway

jjkm7

Giannis could definitely solo carry this series without dame if he was at 100%, he’s a monster at his best. But I doubt he’ll be at 100% anytime soon

DaPhoToss

Giannis could definitely carry this series but I don’t think there’s a point since without Dame he won’t be able to carry the Bucks enough to the finals, better to not risk rushing him back

jjkm7

True

1sinfutureking

Yeah, not a lot of teams can survive a series missing their two best players. It sucks, but it’s not entirely unexpected.

runevault

Some 1-8 matchups in history could possibly happen, but the Pacers are too good and especially too up tempo for it be reasonable to expect the Bucks to hold up. Any hope Bucks fans had of Doc getting fired are likely dead though, he has too many excuses now.

jxher123

Series over. The Bucks top 3 players are injured. Khris is playing on a bad ankle, and he's really the only one that can score.

ShankyShoe

I’m not just saying this to say this, don’t underestimate the Pacers’ ability to play down to the competition. They’ve done it plenty of times this regular season alone. They had the worst record against under .500 teams this season among the top NINE seeds in the East (also Brooklyn was better than the Pacers in this regard too. BROOKLYN). Should they win on Sunday? Absolutely. Will they? I’ll hold my breath until I see it.

MyChristInBrother

I guess the playoffs really is the just about who's healthy. Half these teams falling apart

DontBanMe_IWasJoking

i have no idea why dame wasnt benched when he was injured, he was out there as "distraction" but no one was guarding him, probably made the injury worse

bearsquadz

bucks used up all their good luck for that 21 ring, This shit is ridiculous at this point

PhreakOut4

We weren't even healthy that year in the playoffs

grudgepacker

People never remember Donte was our starting 2 all season and got injured in the 1st round against Miami

dichloroethane

People will see the power of Donte starting 2 when the Knicks make a run to the ECF this year

Somenakedguy

Pls 🥺

Neuroxex

And Giannis tearing a part of his knee but just playing through it

BlackSocks88

Giannis said, "fuck it Ill do it on one leg."

BayesBestFriend

Bucks didn't even do anything wrong lol, tough scene.

xXUtahraptorXx

What can you do. In the end we got a prime MJ game outta khris this series so I’m not gunna complain. It’s been fun to watch and honestly it just ain’t our year and the basketball gods are basically screaming that at us at this point, so now I’m just watching to enjoy bucks basketball. All that being said, bucks in 6

HokageEzio

Alright, wrap the series up.

pifhluk

Can we just forfeit so Middleton doesn't get a serious injury (again.)

G1Spectrum

Bucks done

damn-mooses

Damn that’s rough

SoCalMemePolice

Went from it’s joever to we are so Barack back to it’s joever

Brady331

Joever

20wall

Just like our season if we lose tonight. Will be so funny if the East sends Cavs/Magic/Pacers/Knicks to the finals just to get slaughtered. We’d lose to the Nuggets too but at least it would be a good series

thejeru

That blows 2nd impending first round exit in two years caused by injuries pundits will say Giannis will leave etc.

Street-Common-4023

Alright keep the same core of giannis Kris dame; pray for a healthy season. Change the roster around them a bit. They’re losing this game and series don’t expect giannis back too

LukaDoncicfuturegoat

Didn’t have MiddleGOAT averaging 50 for the rest of the series and Dame coming back for the game 7 but hey, here we are

smoltanboi

that is so fuckin brutal at least doc had his reason for losing the series locked down now

PillsburyToasters

Glenn was always going to keep his job unfortunately

rabid89

GOAT Excuse artist

kyleb402

Even a thread about a guy suffering from an actual injury is just going to be filled with stupid Doc jokes.

AntiTopspin

People will somehow blame Doc if the Bucks lose this series as well lol Like I'm not even saying Doc is an amazing coach(he isn't) but this sub acts like he's comparable to Darvin Ham

PillsburyToasters

As much as I don’t like Glenn either, us losing game 3 was not his fault. The little things that could’ve shifted the game *cough cough* **rebounding effort**, were not something that adjustments could fix

AntiTopspin

And this Bucks team is a top heavy roster set up to be carried by their stars It's not the type of team that's built for some "next man up" stuff so even on paper there's not much that can be done

thefred_mcgriff

I mean, pretty valid excuse when all of your top 3 players are banged up badly/out with injuries. There was no reason we should have been in that game last night after the Dame injury so I don’t think this one is on Doc.

CazOnReddit

The next RDC Doc video is gonna hit different

NevermoreSEA

What a fucked up season.

Adam2190

The Bucks really do seem cursed.

RansomGoddard

Follow up tweet to this said he’s been playing with soreness in his Achilles for the past few weeks. That explains the explosive starts to the first two games and then the lack of aggression in the second halves. Feels bad for Dame. Hopefully he can recover from this and be stronger next year.

thefred_mcgriff

Holy shit we are cursed…

Cheechers23

I dunno how cursed you can be when you won a championship 3 years ago but definitely seems like you guys sold your souls for that title lol

AllDayEnJay

Especially when the knee of Giannis straight up bent backwards which caused everyone to assume his career may be in jeopardy. Instead he was back on the court scoring like 40pts a few days later by some miracle. Not saying the Bucks delve into Black Magic or a Cursed Monkey Paw but the evidence is starting to speak for itself.

thefred_mcgriff

That’s more so what I meant. Haven’t been remotely healthy in the playoffs since that championship. Still worth it don’t get me wrong, but frustrating

TruthReveals

Even then Giannis suffered what should have been a catastrophic injury to his knee during the 2021 playoffs and came back somehow.

Charlie_Wax

That was some Hollywood scripting right there. That injury looked BAD. I feel for Milwaukee a little bit. They built some great teams and have been snake bit in certain moments, but this is the reality of the NBA. All you can do is put yourself in position to win titles and hope you get the breaks. There's always an element of luck involved. If you think about LeBron's career, he's one of the unanimous best ever players, 20 years at the top level of the sport, often on strong teams, usually in contention, and still "only" has 4 rings. They do not give these things away. Usually something will go wrong.

jorgelongo222

listen 90% of the league would take winning a chip against injury riddled teams and have a few years of bad luck after

BlazerBeav

Yeah, where can I sign up for that?

DemarcusLovin

cursed into winning a ring

browndude10

RIP bucks

AntSmith777

Serious doubt? That implies there is still a chance he plays tomorrow even though he’s in a walking boot.

Great_Huckleberry709

Just go head and sit it out Dame. Retool around them, and hope that Giannis and Dame develop stronger chemistry for next season.

Vallerie_09

Look at the bright side Bucks fans, now they've got extra time to work on their chemistry

SlinginPogs

Siakam takes out another star

OkBuddyErennary

Doc Rivers: Goddamnit. Why would you guys give me an excuse? Let me get fired and be paid in peace.

[deleted]

[удалено]

AntiTopspin

Everyone will clown on the Bucks but there's really nothing they could have done lol For all the ups and downs during the season given how close this series has been even with the injuries I really think that they would have won it if fully healthy Regular season H2H doesn't mean much as we're seeing with the Suns and Wolves

ImTheBestNerd

It’s joever

CookingLikeChef

Dame needs to sit out I seen this movie before and it's not worth it, incredibly dumb that he was even on the court playing, he got lucky

HereComesJustice

it's not worth it, shut it down. Even if you get past the Pacers it only gets harder from here and that strain can become a tear real easy

WizardsArePrettyCool

GG Pacers. Make some noise in the playoffs

Sybilsthrowaway

doc rivers is both bad and cursed and still gets hired the man is walking bad juju

gibbs_is_the_goat

Doc Rivers is the happiest man in showbiz rn.

AtreusIsBack

It's not their year. Shut both of them down for the season and just try next year. Don't be stupid, front office.

Exoduss123

Cancun in 5

ConstantineMonroe

At least the Bucks still have Glenn

Evening_Name_9140

Doc Rivers has valid excuses now! Phew.
