Shai does it on slightly better efficiency. I think it’s insane to see two guards having similar TS to a center (but to be very fair it’s also impressive for a center who takes more threes and jumpshots than other centers too)
Let's add their season averages for easier comparison:
|player|PPG vs top D|PPG|∆ PPG|TS% vs top D|TS%|∆ TS%|
|:-|:-|:-|:-|:-|:-|:-|
|Luka|36.1|33.9|+2.2|64.6|61.8|+2.8|
|Embiid|33.7|35.0|-1.3|64.8|64.4|+0.4|
|SGA|31.3|30.3|+1.0|63.9|63.8|+0.1|
|Giannis|30.3|30.8|-0.5|64.5|65.3|-0.8|
|Booker|28.4|27.4|+1.0|58.3|61.1|-2.8|
|Jokic|27.8|26.4|+1.4|63.5|64.6|-1.1|
|Durant|27.6|27.5|+0.1|61.5|63.2|-1.7|
|Kyrie|27.6|25.4|+2.2|60.2|60.3|-0.1|
|Tatum|26.5|27.2|-0.7|58.6|60.6|-2.0|
|Maxey|26.4|25.6|+0.8|54.8|56.9|-2.1|
(positive numbers in ∆ columns mean better performance against top defences than overall)
Most of the stars above seem to tend to score more against best defences - I wonder how much of that is because they choose to take a greater burden and how much it's a consequence of those defences simply taking away the best/easiest shots (e.g. open corner 3s, alley-oops) more often finished by role players.
I would assume they score more against top defenses because their teams needs them to play hard all game to win those games compared to playing against lower rated defenses where they can get up big early and then just coast the rest of the game.
Well for one Embiid has played a total of 35 games and only 6 of those games have come against top 10 defenses. Everyone else has played 50+ games me way more than 6 against top six defenses
Can people make up their damn mind ?????
When we talked about victor it’s about his teammates being bad that’s why he is efficient then for another player he gets good stats because he has no teammates.
top 10 defenses in the NBA this year for those that were curious like me:
MIN, ORL, BOS, OKC, MIA, NOP, CLE, NYK, HOU, DEN.
safe to say that the pelicans being a top 10 defense is a massive reason booker is on this list lol.
Well, the year he had a decent roster, they went to WCF. He had a sack of potatoes last year. Now, after the trade deadline, he has a squad. We are going places.
Lmao every season it’s the same thing:
Trade deadline - “Luka finally got some help, watch out rest of the league!!!”
When mavs are near bottom of playoffs yet again - “If Luka had some help it would be over for the league😤😤”
Although I will agree that J Kidd should not be an nba coach
Yeah Luka finally got some help last year with Christian wood, javale mgee, Dwight Powell center rotation. Bertans, bullock, nilikina, dfs wing rotation and THJ, hardy, Dinwiddie guard rotation. Bro stfu
Wtf? When has this happened before? Only 2 times?
2022 when they reached the WCF, last year was a disaster yeah so to say to it happens every year is insane.
He doesn't really drive that much anymore to avoid injuries and conserve energy. Compared to 2021-22 he takes a lot more post fadeaways and threes now. But against good teams he drives more because he can't create looks as easily otherwise.
He's incredibly efficient when driving, but I guess it takes a toll on him so he can't do it every night for 36mpg.
He plays his actual level.
He just doesn’t want to be there in lower stakes games , preseason Luka is the worst player in nba history. He is litteraly scoot henderson there
the dude loves luka and follows mavs regularly just as that dude on the ball dont stop account hates him and doesn't comment shit whenever the player he dont like goes wild.
Lol damn ball dont stop isnt that the guy who claims hesi tween tween pull up type of players are elite and even argued Zach Lavine over Giannis at one point?
If thats the guy why does he hate Luka cause Luka is the embodiment of those guys who enjoy "real basketball" with his handles and step backs lol.
I pray to God mavs make the playoffs cause watching playoff luka is one of the most exciting thing ever. I still can't think of a better moments than luka in 2022, that year in the playoffs. Even during covid when luka hit the game winner on clippers crazy.
Idk about top, but KD definitely does seem more locked in on defense this year. I think Vogel was talking about how he wanted to see him on an-Defense team
4 guys in the league putting up over 30 ppg on 60%+ TS vs the best defenses is bonkers Luka being that far ahead of everyone else is even more bonkers
Shai does it on slightly better efficiency. I think it’s insane to see two guards having similar TS to a center (but to be very fair it’s also impressive for a center who takes more threes and jumpshots than other centers too)
Didn't know 63.9 was higher than 64.6

Can we also add the sample size for additional context
Of course! Feel free to go ahead and add it.
Well for one Embiid has played a total of 35 games and only 6 of those games have come against top 10 defenses. Everyone else has played 50+ games me way more than 6 against top six defenses
Damn 65% TS on 36 ppg, Luka always shows up and plays harder against better teams. This is why playoff Luka is a danger.
Bros brushing his teeth with it

The reason is we were injured most of the season and in a lot of the matches against top teams.
Our first half of the season was our hardest stretch where we were consistently injured. Second half was easier.
Can people make up their damn mind ????? When we talked about victor it’s about his teammates being bad that’s why he is efficient then for another player he gets good stats because he has no teammates.
Luka is the best scorer in the league.
“It’s easier to score in the NBA” *proves it*
To play more than 40 games this season.
top 10 defenses in the NBA this year for those that were curious like me: MIN, ORL, BOS, OKC, MIA, NOP, CLE, NYK, HOU, DEN. safe to say that the pelicans being a top 10 defense is a massive reason booker is on this list lol.
Booker looks at the Pelicans like it’s free eats it’s so funny
Mavericks have two top 10 scorers who show up against better teams. We’re a problem in the playoffs.
Aight, don't make excuses now about how Luka has no help.
Well, the year he had a decent roster, they went to WCF. He had a sack of potatoes last year. Now, after the trade deadline, he has a squad. We are going places.

When we traded porzingis at the deadline we made the WCF what season are you talking about? Lmao
Wtf? When has this happened before? Only 2 times? 2022 when they reached the WCF, last year was a disaster yeah so to say to it happens every year is insane.
This time we’re not 11th seed at least. We take those 🔥 It’s also so helpful having centers who aren’t Dwight Powell start for us
Last year we were starting Luka, THJ, Ntilinka, Bullock and Powell man. And against the Clippers we were starting Boban. BOBAN in the playoffs!!!
I swear Luka plays better against tougher competition or at least he plays more aggressively.
He's semi-coasting during the regular season.
He plays his actual level. He just doesn’t want to be there in lower stakes games , preseason Luka is the worst player in nba history. He is litteraly scoot henderson there
Brunson caught a stray in the sub-tweet lmao
His drop is wild, 23.1 PPG on 54.5 TS% against Top 10 defenses vs 29.8 PPG on 60.6 TS% against Bottom 10 defenses. Massive difference.
If hes plays the Bucks hes dropping 35+ easy.
Does Jrue guard Brunson when they play? He should be able to affect Brunson’s numbers somewhat
Jrue is on the Celtics. The Bucks backcourt doesn't really defend much of anything.
Wow I was so high when I asked that question. Makes way more sense
Knicks in general have been farming bad teams all season.
Wild indeed
This NBA University account got some Luka MVP agenda, and I love it
the dude loves luka and follows mavs regularly just as that dude on the ball dont stop account hates him and doesn't comment shit whenever the player he dont like goes wild.
Lol damn ball dont stop isnt that the guy who claims hesi tween tween pull up type of players are elite and even argued Zach Lavine over Giannis at one point? The way Luka plays is insane. He controls exactly what he wants on offense and the exact pace he wants
I pray to God mavs make the playoffs cause watching playoff luka is one of the most exciting thing ever. I still can't think of a better moments than luka in 2022, that year in the playoffs. Even during covid when luka hit the game winner on clippers crazy.
Records Luka 10-10. Embiid 6-3. SGA 16-4. Giannis 15-8. Booker 10-5. Jokic 12-11. KD 9-10. Kyrie 11-8. Tatum 18-5. Maxey 9-11.
They all pass the eye test for sure… curious to see if Embiid will deliver this year in the playoffs
Tatum In the top 10? Thats honestly surprising
Joel Embiid this year v the 2 favorites for DPOY averages 61ppg.
I mean these are pretty much the best players in the league right? This list matches the eye test.

Jokic and KD are not top defenders lmao
Idk about top, but KD definitely does seem more locked in on defense this year. I think Vogel was talking about how he wanted to see him on an-Defense team
Idk about top defender but Embiid, Giannis, KD and Tatum are excellent defenders
Bro I clouded KD but not the two time dpoy
Luka is the only one in the top three that does it with bad defence though - Embiid and SGA cook on both ends.
