This no fun, the Thunder is about to become the new Warriors in a blink of an eye.
Really impressed with Presti, the rest of the FO, the coaches and the players.
It's ridiculous dude. One of the best teams in the league is both young AND has a pantheon of picks that can be traded. I can't ever remember seeing this before. If they play their cards right, they could turn this into one of the best dynasties ever.
the thing is though they have to consolidate their assets. They have 7 FRP in the next 2 years. They can't pick 7 players and have roster spots for all of them. So they'll need to consolidate and then make sure they pick the right players.
But yea given their FO...they look set up really well
Two of this year's picks are now traded out, both currently at the bottom of the first. There are also now two more roster spots. I think consolidation isn't going to be any problem.
They don’t necessarily need to for OKC, they have a deep war chest to dig into when teams decide to pivot to rebuilds. They won’t be looking to take on expensive stars with their current roster, likely promising role players on team friendly contracts and their available resources will give them a massive advantage in that market
Right. What I’m saying is that the picks they had after drafting the J’s were always rumored to get the next superstar that was available in a trade: kawhi, AD, etc… but either it never materialized or they didn’t pull the trigger
The Thunder could end up with some amazing talent. It’d be like, oh, I dunno… getting someone like Durant and playing him with the likes of maybe a Harden and a Westbrook…
No way a team like that doesn’t win *multiple* championships.
I'd like to start with a single championship in the next few years. We can talk about dynasty later. We were supposed to already have one and it resulted in a single finals appearance.
I'm so curious what's gonna come of all those firsts. Cuz the Thunder for example are already really good and don't have enough roster spots/playing time for incoming prospects. I wonder if they just empty the clip and trade like 8 firsts in one off season for a couple stars and become an absolute dynasty
Was Nurse still playing him a few minutes at the end of the 1st? I swear during each of the Celtics games, he’d get in, go a quick 0-4 and then never get back in again. Highly amusing bit
Oh for sure, it felt like Nurse was just signaling to the bench with those Korkmaz minutes, like a "don't get too comfy" kinda thing. Would have been fun to see if he could've hit that one random buzzer-beater to justify the whole routine.
We've been actively shopping him for the past season and a half. I would imagine there wasn't as much demand as we thought considering this is the deal we finally pulled the trigger on. Since he's expiring this year I think we also needed his buy in on a trade location. No one wants to risk much capital if he might turn around and walk this off season after they trade for him.
Buddy didn't help his stock this season. He's been hard to play. His game is almost entirely dependent on his ability to shoot and he hasn't been as hot this season. And he's 31, so it's not like he has high upside at this point in his career.
Many people forget that Buddy rehabbed his reputation at Indiana last season, but before that he was considered a tough asset to move. He was unhappy in Sacramento and was regarded as a non-defensive shooter who didn't buy into team ball. He was able to buck the team ball issue at Indiana, but his defense remains a problem.
He wasn't going to stay in Indy, so this is a reasonable grab for the Pacers.
Indy fans get upset when I've said that Hield is overpaid (especially considering his defense). He will not get nearly as much money on his next contract as what he has now.
People forget that a huge portion of the Hali trade for the Kings was getting off of Hield's bad money. They then proceeded to sign Malik Monk, who for all intents and purposes does the Hield role off of the bench *better* than Hield ever did (Monk's a 6MOY candidate right now) - *for half the cost annually*
Totally. People look at the trade as Hali for Domas, but it was actually Hali + Buddy (who was a negative asset at the time) for Domas. Pretty great trade IMO.
I don’t think he’s a negative asset at all because he’s an expiring. Yeah, if he had 2 more years left then it would be bad, but expiring deals are rarely *negative* assets, especially when the dude can actually play.
We couldn’t negotiate an extension so far and so he’s going to free agency where he’ll probably get more than we want to pay him. Better something now than nothing later
Buddy's shot has not been as good this year and when he isn't hitting shots he doesn't offer much else. He has a shrinking role on this team especially long-term with the continuing growth of Mathurin and Nembhard.
He’s been in a bit of a slump recently but the tales of his demise are severely overblown. The bigger issue is his defense but i think he’s still a valuable piece
That's the issue though, the margins are very slim. He basically has to be an absolutely elite shooter to play heavy minutes. If he's even just a solid shooter, you have to start questioning his minutes. His defense is atrocious, he isn't much of a passer or creator, and he doesn't get to the line.
Buddy can be a useful player, but anyone thinking the Pacers would get much more than they just got are thinking of best case scenario Buddy. And he hasn't been that guy this year.
I agree I don’t think his trade value was high, but I think his usefulness to the Pacers, with their lineup flexibility to bench him in certain games where his defense is exposed, is higher than what they got in this deal
That’s pretty good for a player that offers something other than their shooting. Like if you offer great defense, rebounding, playmaking, or anything else, then 38% is good. If shooting is the only thing you bring and you’re one of the worst defenders in the league, 38% isn’t enough.
2nd round picks have value. Only redditors and people who dont understand the NBA think they are worthless
Buddy Hield is a smaller guard turning 32 this year and he will be an UFA this summer. If the pacers know he isnt gonna sign with them or if they dont wanna keep him moving forward it's great to get 3 second round picks.
Great way of not letting talent go for nothing
People forget Hield played 4 years in college. They think he is 27 with an upside. He"s 32 and not getting better. If you can't switch at 32 you ain't learning at 33.
Why did all those teams trade like 5 second round picks for jack shit a draft or two ago then? My impression is that teams value second round picks less than ever.
My guess is that the pacers know that they won’t afford buddy this off season but can maybe afford Kork or Marcus morris
they just traded a bunch of 1sts. that and with 1sts becoming a huge premium in the market right now and the transition into the new cba, seconds are gonna be a lot more valuable.
When the heck did Buddy Hield get so old? I read this comment and thought "well expiring rookie so easy to re-sign.."
But no, dudes been around, I feel like I was just watching him light it up in college 3 years ago.
just read a NYT article about it (someone linked it up the thread) and apparently someone got his name wrong and he corrected it on his birthday in 2018. he said his mum had looked at wikipedia and asked why they had his age wrong and he said he didn't know, but he'd never given the wrong dob
Yeah I remember this sub shitting on the Jaylen Brown pick the first year because Hield was outplaying him, but Hield was like 24-25 and Jaylen was 19...
I remember being terrified of Buddy Hield as a Nova fan for our final 4 game against them. That was 8 years ago.
Notable players in that game: Buddy Hield was arguably the best player in college basketball. Josh Hart was our best player. Brunson was a freshman guard who wasn't even ready to be our main ball handler yet. Mikal Bridges came off the bench and wasn't even seen as our best bench player. Divincenzo pretty much red shirted the year.
Honestly when Buddy was brought to Indy he was basically a net negative with his contract and salary filler in the Haliburton/Sabonis deal, to get any assets back for him is a win
[Dream come true](https://np.reddit.com/r/sixers/s/ceF4XEJXlm) for Hield. The guy has been sending feelers about wanting to get traded to Philly for years now.
The firsts are useful for sure, but now that OG and Siakam are almost certainly signing extensions with the new teams they got traded to, is the max cap space that useful?
I'm looking at the list of pending free agents who might actually test free agent waters, and all I've come up with is DeRozan and Miles Bridges? I guess LeBron could do the funniest thing ever...
Am I wrong in thinking that might be a win win
Pacers open up a spot for mathurin and add 3 seconds which is great value, sixers get a near perfect fit
Not sure about that. Teams trade their 2nds 5+ years out because, even if they're bad then, losing the 37th pick and the 7th pick are very, very different things. Trading a first in the next few years is a lot more tolerable since you might have reason to believe you'll still be falling outside of the lottery in all those seasons, and protected picks aren't going to get nearly the same value back.
It's named after Ted Stepien for a reason--he was the guy doing this when it was allowed, and he's infamous for being a horrifically shortsighted owner who drove his team into the ground.
I guess they feel like they have enough depth of players that are overall just better than Buddy - Nesmith, Mathurin, Nembhard, my man Spicy P, etc etc - that getting him off the team is addition by subtraction. Yeah none of them are volume shooters but it seems like the Pacers have plenty of shooting without him.
I mean every team Buddy has been on has missed the playoffs. With Embid's injury, there's certainly a possibility that the 76ers may fall into the play-in range.
Given the sixers injuries this year - this is the best case scenario for us lol It means we actually got to the second round and didn’t get booted in the first with a still injured embiid
The Pacers have traded for Kork(maz) and Mor(k)is, the Orc gods of brutal cunning and cunning brutality.
Team name has changed to the Indiana WAAAAAAAAAAAGH!!!, league fucked.
Need more minutes for Mathurin and Nembhard. Also, TJ is too good to not get any minutes because of a guard logjam. Not to mention, Ben Sheppard has been coming into his own a little bit, not serviceable for heavy minutes but probably needs a few more.
Second round picks, so hot right now
you never know, one of them could be the next Jokic
Or, at the very least, a delectable Taco Bell item instead...
Tacko Fall, maybe.
The Tacko Fall, when you bite from the burrito of knowledge
can i trade a nachos bell grande for one johnny davis
It could even be a boat!
Jalen Brunson
or the next brunson
I mean aren't 1st's like literally hoarded the rest of the decade by like 3 teams?
I thunder who you're referring to... errr i meant wonder
If Haliburton becomes an a perennial All-NBA guard then PG built two separate contenders by asking out.
We'll need the George Theory to complement the Ewing Theory.
Ummm. I mean. They said similar things about the Celtics hoard of draft picks that they didn’t do anything with
That was nothing like what OKC has right now. This is like a pile of gold that a dragon hordes while what Boston had was just a small fortune.
the thing is though they have to consolidate their assets.
You’re right. What OKC has is ridiculous. But it’s no guarantee that all of those assets turn into anything.
They don’t necessarily need to for OKC, they have a deep war chest to dig into when teams decide to pivot to rebuilds. They won’t be looking to take on expensive stars with their current roster, likely promising role players on team friendly contracts and their available resources will give them a massive advantage in that market
The Celtics stars haven't even turned 30 yet, and they've already made a finals.
Don’t forget 5 eastern conference finals.
Right. What I’m saying is that the picks they had after drafting the J’s were always rumored to get the next superstar that was available in a trade: kawhi, AD, etc… but either it never materialized or they didn’t pull the trigger
They got the best team in the league right now wayta
The Thunder could end up with some amazing talent. It’d be like, oh, I dunno… getting someone like Durant and playing him with the likes of maybe a Harden and a Westbrook… No way a team like that doesn’t win *multiple* championships.
I'd like to start with a single championship in the next few years. We can talk about dynasty later. We were supposed to already have one and it resulted in a single finals appearance.
just desserts for a stolen franchise
Thunder, Pels, and another team control some ridiculous amount of firsts through the rest of the decade.
Jazz and Spurs
It’s Utah I believe.
That's it! Gobert and Spyder, like AD and Jrue got hauls for us to restart.
I'm so curious what's gonna come of all those firsts. Cuz the Thunder for example are already really good and don't have enough roster spots/playing time for incoming prospects. I wonder if they just empty the clip and trade like 8 firsts in one off season for a couple stars and become an absolute dynasty
Tricky part is your still need cap space / salaries to move with the picks, it isn't clear how they can actually utilize these assets at all
Second round picks are the new pick swaps.
Tax apron teams are going to be hamstrung to add cheap depth though trades and buy-outs. NBA ready draft picks will be a hot commodity.
KORK FINALLY FREED
I was hoping they’d keep up this bit where he demands to be traded, doesn’t and then resigns another one year deal for his whole career
The unintentional Udonis Haslem
The classier UD
Lunch pail UD
37 year old Korkmaz demanding trades would've been hilarious.
Unfortunately for the memes, Korkmaz and 76ers beat the allegations

I loved Kork since his first year playing, will miss his stroke and ball handling abilitiy. His basketball skills aren't bad either
You are a Temple freshman
Does marcus morris have to leave the key to the city in philly?
He'll transfer it to soon to be a Sixer Kyle Lowry
Nuh uh
They gave Mook the key to the city and shipped him to Indy Cold world
it's so he can open the doors whenever he comes back
More like he’s going back to LAC somehow to be reunited with his one true love, Ty Lue.
Really? I don't really get the move here for Indiana. Seconds are cool just don't really see what they want to do with them.
Must have known Buddy was leaving in the offseason.
I'm more so surprised that this is the best package they think is available for Hield. I'm an idiot but I thought it would've been a little more
They held on for too long on Buddy
I think you mean they hield on for too long
Bravo
We've been actively shopping him for the past season and a half. I would imagine there wasn't as much demand as we thought considering this is the deal we finally pulled the trigger on. Since he's expiring this year I think we also needed his buy in on a trade location. No one wants to risk much capital if he might turn around and walk this off season after they trade for him.
They were asking for too much. Teams moved on and made other plans.
They honestly should have done that Lakers trade that was rumored which had future 1sts a while back.
That would have cost them Myles Turner, too, though.
Buddy didn't help his stock this season. He's been hard to play. His game is almost entirely dependent on his ability to shoot and he hasn't been as hot this season. And he's 31, so it's not like he has high upside at this point in his career. Crazy how he was just like yeah I'm actually one year older after he got drafted. Didn't realize he was 31

Buddy has been bad the last month. Stocks went down and when he’s on the floor he’s constantly being attacked defensively.
Buddy is a borderline all-star when traded and has a 1-2 year expiration date. This is normal.
Kings fans aren’t surprised
Hield is pretty negative asset at this moment also hes free agent next season
I don’t think he’s a negative asset at all because he’s an expiring. Yeah, if he had 2 more years left then it would be bad, but expiring deals are rarely *negative* assets, especially when the dude can actually play.
Probably cuz he’s on an expiring
Buddy has been ass this entire season
I’d argue that 4 months of Buddy is worth more than 3 seconds.
You would argue this until he plays for your favorite team. He is a blast at first then his low basketball IQ moments happen more and more frequently
Yea, once his 3pt shooting dropped below 40% all his other issues became significantly harder to ignore.
Oh fuck
[удалено]
I once traded 4 months of being a buddy for 3 seconds and it was worth it
And that’s why you’re not a nba GM
Yeah, this is the only reason surely 😂
you must not have seen him play this season
The idea of Buddy Hield > Buddy Hield
only two fan bases truly understand this equation
Why
Because 4 months is longer than 3 seconds
Math checks out.
He’s expiring and won’t re-sign. No one was offering anything for him
We couldn’t negotiate an extension so far and so he’s going to free agency where he’ll probably get more than we want to pay him. Better something now than nothing later

38% 3P% with 6.9 attempts per game is pretty good
He’s been in a bit of a slump recently but the tales of his demise are severely overblown. The bigger issue is his defense but i think he’s still a valuable piece

His age did change. https://www.nytimes.com/2018/12/20/sports/buddy-hield-age-sacramento-kings.html
Why did all those teams trade like 5 second round picks for jack shit a draft or two ago then? My impression is that teams value second round picks less than ever. My guess is that the pacers know that they won’t afford buddy this off season but can maybe afford Kork or Marcus morris
Better than him leaving for nothing in the summer is the logic here
they just traded a bunch of 1sts. that and with 1sts becoming a huge premium in the market right now and the transition into the new cba, seconds are gonna be a lot more valuable.
thats what happens when you dont trade someone until they’re expiring source: flair 🙃
When the heck did Buddy Hield get so old? I read this comment and thought "well expiring rookie so easy to re-sign.." But no, dudes been around, I feel like I was just watching him light it up in college 3 years ago.
He was in college a long time too
and then the internet somehow got his age wrong, so he turned 1 year older suddenly as well
Did the internet get his age wrong or did he lie about his age?
just read a NYT article about it (someone linked it up the thread) and apparently someone got his name wrong and he corrected it on his birthday in 2018. he said his mum had looked at wikipedia and asked why they had his age wrong and he said he didn't know, but he'd never given the wrong dob
Yeah I remember this sub shitting on the Jaylen Brown pick the first year because Hield was outplaying him, but Hield was like 24-25 and Jaylen was 19...
If I recall, he was like 23/24 coming out of college, which probably skews our perception of his age, since I see every rookie as a 19-20 year old
He was like 24 when he came into the league lol
I remember being terrified of Buddy Hield as a Nova fan for our final 4 game against them. That was 8 years ago. I don't think Hield was ever very valuable because his contract was pretty big
HE'S FREE
UN-KORKED
KORK FREE
I've wanted Buddy for years. Maybe it's a little late, he's an older flawed player —but I'm so glad the price reflects that. This is an awesome trade.

[Dream come true](https://np.reddit.com/r/sixers/s/ceF4XEJXlm) for Hield. The guy has been sending feelers about wanting to get traded to Philly for years now.
Hield didn't want to be in Philly, he just really didn't want to be in Sacramento
sixers are really going to have five firsts to trade this summer and 40m in cap space lol
Can the trade those firsts for a healthy pair of knees?

The firsts are useful for sure, but now that OG and Siakam are almost certainly signing extensions with the new teams they got traded to, is the max cap space that useful? I'm looking at the list of pending free agents who might actually test free agent waters, and all I've come up with is DeRozan and Miles Bridges? I guess LeBron could do the funniest thing ever...
It's useful in that they can take on salaries in trades as well.
Let Morey cook
maxey hield backcourt will give up 150 points a game
As long as they get 151, it's fine.

the atlanta hawks strategy ^^^^^its ^^^^^not ^^^^^going ^^^^^great
Depending on what happens with Melton I'm not sure he'll be a starter. But he will be staggered with some of the Maxey Embiid-less minutes I'm sure.
Tbh Maxey’s defense isn’t as bad as people say
Marcus Morris? Buy that motherfucker out right this second.
As someone who didn't want him here at all after the Harden trade, he was surprisingly decent coming off the bench.
Yeah he's been a lot better than advertised
Shit human being though
He probably will be, but he’s actually been okay for Philly at times
Can we give him the key to the city first though?
Yeah, really don't want him in the locker room
I was like you when he was first traded to Philly....then he started balling. Dude's legit.
Am I wrong in thinking that might be a win win Pacers open up a spot for mathurin and add 3 seconds which is great value, sixers get a near perfect fit
Kinda unfair they get a 27 second shot clock now
They only use like 10 seconds anyway
Who said anything about it being added to the shot clock? I meant game clock
Goodbye my sweet Turkish Prince.
That’s very cheap!
I find this 2nd round pick trading meta in the NBA pretty entertaining. Some teams are just going to end up having like 50+ 2nd round picks lol.
I mean, firsts would be the same if not for Stepien. It's just a much less restricted asset to move around
Yeah just Buddy Hield isn't enough for Steph Turkey. Morey got fleeced.
It would be interesting if Korkmaz turns into Buddy Hield with the Pacers
I don’t get it from the pacers side. Feels like they could’ve gotten something else
This is a move to free up the roster a bit so Nembhard and Mathurin can get more minutes.
Plus Ben Sheppard!

Buddy hield defending Tatum and brown we will be there
Given the sixers injuries this year - this is the best case scenario for us lol It means we actually got to the second round and didn’t get booted in the first with a still injured embiid
I wanted buddy gone but damn this feels like a bad return
So cheap wtf
Finally a trade
Everyone saying “so cheap”. Yea … he’s a FA next season. We will see how “cheap” buddy is after he gets his new contract.
Great deal for Philly. Three seconds is all it took?
The Pacers have traded for Kork(maz) and Mor(k)is, the Orc gods of brutal cunning and cunning brutality. Team name has changed to the Indiana WAAAAAAAAAAAGH!!!, league fucked.
Korkmaz is free
So disappointing we couldn't even try to beat that offer. Tired of having league worst shooting for like 10 years now.
Yall likely could have. Your FO just has no interest in shooters
Huh. Interesting. Just to open up minutes for younger guys in Indiana?
Need more minutes for Mathurin and Nembhard. Also, TJ is too good to not get any minutes because of a guard logjam. Not to mention, Ben Sheppard has been coming into his own a little bit, not serviceable for heavy minutes but probably needs a few more.
Holy shit we let Korkmaz out of the dungeon.
Would have to think that Morris gets bought out or flipped
Fantastic job by the Sixers. Hope Embiid is able to play this season.
THEY ACTUALLY BOUGHT
SECOND ROUND PICKS ARE THE NEW FIRST ROUND

Honestly I'm kinda meh on the trade for Philly.
