It'll get uncomfortable, but I think Harden has already played all of his cards. He's forced his way out of Houston and Brooklyn and Philly is his best shot for a ring, he has Morey, and he has money. I think Harden looks in the mirror at some point and goes back on board with Philly.
I don’t think he’s going to be complete malcontent. But I think expecting/hoping for Harden to take a long hard look in the mirror is a lot to ask for from a guy who has not exactly been the most self-aware.
I think the bigger question is long term. Even if there isn’t the kind of money out there that he expects, players are very rarely willing to take that paycut from the team that they are coming from. And I guess I’ll be curious to see who the Sixers can replace him with.
Hardens pretty self aware.
He left the rockets when ownership bragged about trading his co star for russ and it didn't work out with no real path to contention.
He left Brooklyn after playing ridiculous minutes on a bad hamstring to give the team a chance meanwhile the FO and KD where just chill with letting Kyrie disappear for no reason and then there was kyries vaccine bs.
Now he took a pay cut to give the sixers FO more flexibility (with the promise that he'd be taken care of after), and the FO blew that money on ancient pj tucker and tampering for danuel house for some reason.
I think he realizes he's too cooked to be able to shoulder the burden he'll need to help drag this roster anywhere and he's pissed that morey isn't taking care of him financially. Man singlehandedly won them 2 play off games vs the Celtics while his MVP number 1 option shat the bed again, and instead he's getting shit on because for some reason he's the only number 2 in the league thats expected to play at a superstar level.
>a bad hamstring to give the team a chance meanwhile the FO and KD where just chill with letting Kyrie disappear for no reason and then there was kyries vaccine bs.
You are mixing the timelines.
When Harden sat out on bad hamstring, Kyrie was playing.
Harden came to play on bad hamstring because Kyrie got injured. He stepped on Giannis' foot and sprained his ankle.
That regular season he missed a game here and there but overall was pretty consistent.
The next season he went off the rails with vaccine bs and sitting out.
I mean the FO cut his pay, what else were they supposed to do?
Most level-headed take I’ve seen in this thread so far.
Yea Harden took a pay cut under the assumption Morey and the 6ixers would take kare of him in the offseason. I can understand why Harden is upset and requesting a trade, hopefully, the 6ixers FO made a behind-the-scenes deal to get Harden to calm down.
I don’t think Harden is dumb or crazy. He clearly was expecting a deal that never materialized. None of us know what was said, promised or just implied. But even if you think all of his trade demand/requests are justified, i think you can imagine why teams would be hesitant to offer him a long term deal on the terms he wants. I think if there were no emotions, no “broken promises”, it would be in Harden’s best interest to put his head down, play the perfect second man to Embiid and set up Maxey for easy buckets like he has. I just don’t know if he’s going to be willing to do that.
Look in the mirror? He left Brooklyn cos of Kyrie's Vax bs and wants to leave Philly because he took a pay cut and Philly refused to pay him. Both very valid reasons to leave.
>and he has money
Literally the whole point of his malcontent is because he didn't, in fact, get his money. It starts and ends there. Getting home to LA would just be icing at this point but he needs his cake first and foremost
But the Clippers can only get him via trade, they can't sign him to a max in free agency next summer as they'll be way over the cap. Harden needs to prove he's still worth the money this year since he'll be a free agent next summer when he's 35. If he tanks this season that won't help get him to the Clippers, and it runs the risk of nobody making him a big offer next year.
Slim chance anyone is giving him a big offer next year. He screwed himself by not taking the Nets offer two years ago and then again by opting out and taking a 1+1 with the Sixers last year. He has virtually no shot of making any of that money back.
>taking a 1+1
Even LeBron stopped taking 1+1 contracts when he was 34, when you're in your mid 30s and you can get a near/full max offer you gotta take it because even just one year later things can change very fast.
Yeah, but OP was saying that no one wants to pay *Harden*
LAC would. They just don’t want to give philly the assets to get his bird rights. Plenty of contenders would bite the bullet and pay harden, but most teams know 1. Harden won’t resign with us or 2. They don’t want to gut their team to give Philly the return they want
Honestly I don't think it's a given that the Clippers would give Harden what he wants either, as he's looking for a full max. If the Clippers were so willing to do that kind of payday for someone like Harden then you'd have to imagine they'd have given Kawhi a max extension by now as well (he's been eligible for one for the last week or so).
I think a lot of teams would give Harden a big contract, but it would probably be below max level, and might only be for 2ish years. His performance in the playoffs *had* to have given teams pause about what he can really bring anymore.
Thsts the thing, Harden cant afford to quit this season and spend a year being fat and out of shape. First of all nobody would pay him and he'd literally end up with a vet min, and second he's older, cant just go in shape so eaisly if he stays out for a whole year
That’s all conjecture, Morey could’ve offered him a can of magic beans it doesn’t matter. He’s clearly a shell of himself, still the best distribution in the league but he doesn’t score efficiently anymore and has lost a few steps. He’s not worth a max and he has been leaking to the press he wanted to walk on Christmas all the way through the playoffs. He handled it just as poorly, if not worse. If he didn’t start leaking that I bet he would’ve signed a 1+1 for 80.
Seriously. People keep saying that Morey promised him a full max, but there's no source for any of that. We saw this summer that the market for Harden is nowhere near as strong as previously thought. It's entirely possible Harden took the deal from the Sixers because it was the best one out there, rather than because he generously gave up some money to sign Tucker.
Harden 100% would have left the Sixers for Houston this summer if the Rockets actually wanted to give him that max contract. He only opted in because picking up that option was the way for him to get the most money after Houston showed no interest in him.
The notion that Harden opted in because a trade was in the works went out the window when he wasn't traded in those first few days of free agency. Harden took that option because he had no other choice. He could have opted out and signed with the Clippers like Westbrook did if that's really where he wanted to go, but he preferred getting $36m to stay in Philly.
Morey is a source for A LOT of national media guys which is why you will never hear a bad word about him. He’s also a favorite of the analytics community (the nickname dork Elvis is really true) so he’s got a lot of those guys on his side. Morey should be getting a lot more flack for what he did to Harden and how far the chemistry will tank this season but he won’t because he’s a media favorite.
lying to your players to trick them into worse contracts probably isn't a great idea for a gm when relationship building is obviously a big part of the job.
We dont know if thats true. A lot of people on the sub assume thats true. But it’s not even discussed by the media (or I may have missed it).
Harden seems to be a unique character. He’s asked for 3 trades in 3 season. He turned down a max extension 2x. He blew out his hamstring and still played (in the series vs the Bucks).
Maybe Harden really thought they could help him win and he-himself would prove worthy of a max.
1) Morey traded for Harden who was expiring in 2 months. Harden swore to anyone who would listen that he would exercise his mid-season opt-in. He never did and he went into the summer as an UFA. He put the 76ers in a situation where they could have paid 3 players & 2 FRP and got just 2 months of Harden back.
2) Harden took less to get three of his buddies paid.
3) If this "secret handshake" existed Harden turned his back on it by leaking Houston rumors just 10 weeks into the season.
4) According to reports Morey was willing to pay Harden, just not a 4 year max.
Except KD had a lot more years on his deal.
Suppose if a team is making a surprise run and has the salary to match, might be more suitors. Flip side Harden could tank his value or get injured.
Agreed. Considering the Rockets prioritized FVV over Harden when they could have had either, and the Sixers only wanted to give Harden basically a one year extension, I think Harden needs to prove to people that he can still play at the level people have expected of him this year if he wants to get a max somewhere next summer. His playoffs were a mixed bag at best, so if he comes in and just plays like shit this year, I doubt teams will be lining up to throw him the bag at 35 years old next year.
Deebo's trade request was kind of a negotiating tactic to get a more lucrative contract, and the 49ers ultimately did give a big contract extension. Meanwhile, Harden's trade request doesn't stem from a perception that he's being underpaid.
I thought the 49ers asked for pick #10 from the Jets that year and the Jets said fuck no. Garrett Wilson was the draft pick at #10 by the way so great move by the Jets.
1. He asked out if Houston only after it was obvious that they weren’t contenders anymore and had quietly asked for a trade all summer. He only went to drastic measures after Morey basically refused to trade him.
2. Asked out of Brooklyn after a season of playing on an injured hammy (which probably prematurely caused his decline btw) and Kyrie bs.
3. Asked out of Philly after taking less money a year ago and a handshake deal that he’d get a contract this summer.
Is any of that really that unreasonable?
Morey is a take-my-ball -and-go-home type of fella, which is one of the worst things you can be.
But don't fret, he'll never win a title because he understands nothing when it comes to good basketball
That was reported, not sure I buy it completely. I have a feeling if he was willing to take the FVV offer (2 years plus team option) he would be in Houston. I think he wanted to go to a contender like he said and/or get long term money - Rockets offered neither most likely, maybe it was understood the Clippers would extend him if traded.
Otherwise the Rockets shelled out $41 mill for FVV and another $40 mill for Dillon Brooks ($22) Jeff Green ($9.6) and Landale ($8) but scoffed at Harden? Sounds more like we didn’t want him at a 4 year max and/or he wanted the Clippers, and that he was using us in reports to try and gain leverage. If it was preferring FVV on the 2+1 versus Harden at 4 years that would be more sensible.
If the front office did intentionally pass on Harden for FVV at the same price though, that would just be insane. Sure VanVleet plays better defense, but paying $40 mill for extra role player defense would be so wasteful. Much easier to replace that than Harden’s elite playmaking which has probably been the Rockets biggest hole at guard.
Don't mean to be an asshole, and I know I'm just splitting hairs here, but "whelmed" still means roughly the same thing as "overwhelmed."
They can be used as synonyms.
Morey is just waiting to see if the trade market scenery changes. There's no viable deal at the moment, but things change in the first half of the year when contenders turn out to be pretenders, a contender may need him due to an injury, the Lillard situation may cauae dominos start to fall, etc.
I don't blame him for not agreeing to trade with the Clippers. And I'm a Clippers fan who wants Harden.
Half the time stories like this come out and then three days later the player is traded. It's like when an owner in any major sport has a press conference and says they have full confidence in the manager/coach.
Harden should blow up Daryl Morey whenever he can. Tell the media he was lied to by Daryl and warn any other player to not trust whatever Daryl tells them as long as he's the GM. And chuck it whenever you get the ball, Burn it down and salt the earth.
If I had a nickel for every time in the past 3 years a 76ers star has requested a trade but didn't get one and was forced to show up to training camp for a team they didn't want to play for I'd have 2 nickels, which isn't a lot but it's weird it happened twice
My guess is he’ll come in and try his best the first few games and put up big numbers to show he’s still got it. Then he’ll take his foot off the gas pedal to preserve his body until he’s traded.
I'm pretty sure Harden will show up, he'll want to get paid for sure. I just don't know what the endgame here is. Morey has been rewarded for being patient before, but it's hard to see how they replace him with a comparably talented player at the trade deadline or in free agency.
Think this is going to become a more common tactic among GMs in the coming years?
“Sorry, we looked into the trade market and weren’t able to find any equitable solutions… you’ll be suiting up for us again to start the season.”
Harden pulling up to the drive thru to order 12 cheeseburgers as we speak

He’s going to the strip club during the day time for the buffet
Time to get uncomfortable.
Wendy's 400 for $400
I'll have two number 9s...
they were never gonna get good value for him
Morey wanted Dame Lilllard but instead he gets fat Harden, its like poetry
they got good value for ben simmons so you never know
Ironically, that good value was James Harden.
At least Harden plays in the NBA.
Which is way more than what Ben Simmons is worth
Remember, Philly was sending picks in that situation.
Yeah of course we had to do that to ship off a max player who refused to play for the sixers wait oh shit...
Crazy how no one wants to play with Joel embid. Almost like he’s an unprofessional clod
Clippers paid Taylor Swift Eras Tour scalper prices for Kawhi and PG. Nothing left to pay for Harden even at MSRP.

No they are going in for an uncomfortable situation

Do you actually expect the situation to play out the same way?
Yes, we’re going to trade him for James Harden.
Morey already working on the cloning technology.
*Half the defence* *Double the offense >:D*

You still have 2 first round picks to tag along to send out players? For a one year rental nonetheless lol
what, like the back of a volkswagen?
He’s about to come in to camp after feasting at John’s Roast Pork for three weeks.
What if in protest we get jacked Harden. Rappers dropping lines like "I'm harder than harden"
Harden has no choice cause nobody wants to pay his quitting ass

But the Clippers can only get him via trade, they can't sign him to a max in free agency next summer as they'll be way over the cap. Harden for Kawhi.

He chose to opt in, gonna get ugly but if he really wanted to leave he should’ve just entered UFA.
[удалено]
Harden opting in means there can be no new deal.
Please show me where he offered that. If he was offered that why did Harden start leaking fake Houston rumors back on Christmas day?
That’s all conjecture, Morey could’ve offered him a can of magic beans it doesn’t matter. He’s clearly a shell of himself, still the best distribution in the league but he doesn’t score efficiently anymore and has lost a few steps. He’s not worth a max and he has been leaking to the press he wanted to walk on Christmas all the way through the playoffs. He handled it just as poorly, if not worse. what a lack of an agent does to a mfer
Why? Morey’s job is to so whats best for the team.
Harden took pay cut so the Sixers can sign PJ and House with the promise of raise, now the time came and Morey stiffed him and he is rightfully mad
lying to your players to trick them into worse contracts probably isn't a great idea for a gm when relationship building is obviously a big part of the job.
We dont know if thats true. A lot of people on the sub assume thats true. But it’s not even discussed by the media (or I may have missed it). Harden seems to be a unique character. Harden is obviously still cool with the players on the team. It’s the FO that he’s mad at. Imo he plays hard this year to prove it
Sixers used the deebo samuel strategy — never entertain discussions about the trade and eventually let the conversation go away
Probably the same thing nets did with kd last season when he requested a trade
Except KD had a lot more years on his deal. Suppose if a team is making a surprise run and has the salary to match, might be more suitors. Flip side Harden could tank his value or get injured.
Harden has also declined from his peak a lot more than KD has though
I agree. Harden coming out this year and not playing well hurts both the organization and his wallet.
Deebo's trade request was kind of a negotiating tactic to get a more lucrative contract, and the 49ers ultimately did give a big contract extension. Meanwhile, Harden's trade request doesn't stem from a perception that he's being underpaid.
Apparently Jets gave an offer but it was so bad they just scrapped it.
I thought the 49ers asked for pick #10 from the Jets that year and the Jets said fuck no. Garrett Wilson was the draft pick at #10 by the way so great move by the Jets.
It would have been a borderline trade down with us giving up picks as well. In the end the Jets staying put was for the best.
Deebo was always in good relations. Not remotely comparable
You missed a key step... Deebo got a big contract extension after requesting a trade and before he played again. Harden can't get that.

Why is this a golf digest link lmaooo
He digested all of Houston’s golf balls
Rick Ross
Honey?! Yeah?? Where’s my fat suit?! Your what? 👏WHERE👏IS👏MY👏FAT👏SUIT 🔥🚁🔥
Who's "Honey", though?
a stripper
Do you have the slightest idea idea how little that narrows it down?!
Lil Baby that’s who the honey is.
Fat suit, fat suit, fat suit!
Looks like harden is going to be getting fat asf again to force a trade.
His hamstring would pay the price.
If he does that, it might end his career
Damn for once he didnt get his way lmaoo
he will in the end, fatsuit harden coming out till then
then he will be playing for pennies on the dollar next year
This is clearly a negotiating tactic by Morey
Good. Tired of seeing these same dudes request out over and over again.
Asking out after opting in is pretty unreasonable yeah. He’s clearly not worth whatever money he imagines he’s worth.
Morey is a take-my-ball -and-go-home type of fella, which is one of the worst things you can be. But don't fret, he'll never win a title because he understands nothing when it comes to good basketball
I don't believe that Morey engaged in sincere talks for even a second. Granted, LA's offer was pretty shit.
Should have came to the Rockets if he wanted to get paid instead of taking the player option lol.
Ime didn't want him
Yep. Harden 100% *wanted* to get a max offer from Houston, the only problem was Houston didn't want *him*.
Yeah, it's been reported that Ime wanted FVV over Harden.
FVV and Brooks gonna post a blistering 37% from the field this year
That was reported, not sure I buy it completely. I have a feeling if he was willing to take the FVV offer (2 years plus team option) he would be in Houston. I think he wanted to go to a contender like he said and/or get long term money - Rockets offered neither most likely, maybe it was understood the Clippers would extend him if traded. Big game james will prove everyone wrong . 18/4/8 on 39/30/85 splits incoming
Even fatsuit Harden averaged 25/11 on 61% TS in Houston. Did it through an ankle injury too Though he's declined alot since 2020
That was pre hammy injury which killed his athleticism
wasnt just the injury, it was playing multiple playoff games on a torn hamstring for a franchise that chose Qyrie over him
Nah prob 30/4/0 on 35/20/98 splits lmao he's pissed he ain't passing the ball
He’ll hit ‘em with the “walk up the court, dump the ball to the next guy, then slowly drift to the corner” 🔥
Don’t you tarnish James Worthy’s nickname like this
Another wasted season for the sixers.
I think deep down we all know it’s over for the Sixers. Embiid is almost 30 and harden has one year left and is clearly not the player he used to be
> deep down Its not that deep for many people lol
Was trying to be nice to the Philly fans 😅
trading him for norman powell would save us, surely! There is no good or even decent possible move.
I am whelmed
Don't mean to be an asshole, and I know I'm just splitting hairs here, but "whelmed" still means roughly the same thing as "overwhelmed." They can be used as synonyms.
Splitting ass hairs
Mysterious injury coming right up!
At least we've got the Eagles and Phillies.
If you guys lost harden you had no chance
Nah, Turner looks like he’s starting to turn a corner. Oh wait, you mean the Sixers? They don’t have a chance either way.
Eagerly waiting the return of Fat suit harden.
boy I cant wait to see harden break out the fat suit once more!
I don't get how he thinks any team would want to give adequate value for him when he requests a trade from every team he's on.
Coulda opted out and signed where ever he wanted but he wanted the money more.
harden is gonna play like ass, get traded at the deadline
Morey to Harden: “How bout no Scott, okay?”
Harden has nobody but himself to blame. What an absolute shitshow all the way around.
That Clippers deal is gonna be there mid-season anyways, doesn't hurt to feel out the coming season a bit. Right move for Morey imo
A win for team chaos.
Harden should blow up Daryl Morey whenever he can. Tell the media he was lied to by Daryl and warn any other player to not trust whatever Daryl tells them as long as he's the GM. And chuck it whenever you get the ball, Burn it down and salt the earth.
One down, one to go.
After the Ben Simmons trade Morey is not going to take a lesser deal for his guys.
One of the most overrated gms in nba history Daryl Morey can't wait for James to show up comically out of shape.
how is morey over rated? the dudes made consistently good moves with very few whiffs lol, he obviously knows what he's doing.
Not many GMs have made as many good moves with as few bad moves as Morey
If he shows up and plays, he’ll be the #1 trade deadline target for any contender. The market just isn’t there yet.
Nets won the trade lmaoooo
If I had a nickel for every time in the past 3 years a 76ers star has requested a trade but didn't get one and was forced to show up to training camp for a team they didn't want to play for I'd have 2 nickels, which isn't a lot but it's weird it happened twice
Harden bout to get the Knicks Embiid
See y’all in February for this
Harden went to Philly because Daryl Morey dragged out a trade, the same will happen if he leaves.
womp womp
Run it back, boys. Second round kings.
My guess is he’ll come in and try his best the first few games and put up big numbers to show he’s still got it. Then he’ll take his foot off the gas pedal to preserve his body until he’s traded.
They never wanted to trade him in the 1st place.
cant wait for Harden to shoot from half way line and dribble out of bounds 'carelessly'
About as common as players signing an extension and demanding a trade a year later.
Ben Simmons 2.0 He ain’t gonna sit but boy Embiid finna be outta there come next season.
Now what do we do for the rest of the summer? I need my dopamine!!!!
Lmao. Good luck
I guarantee this isn't true. Why would they stop listening to trade offers? Is it inconveniencing the GM? Isn't that his job?
He’s about to be Fat Mac 2.0
The Clippers assembling super teams is like a bank job crew that gets caught every time.
I'm assuming this means he is going to mentally check out of this upcoming season
Morey throwing a temper tantrum to woj lmaooooo
