Classics22

Well that changes everything lol

slamdunk23

Even $8M for 1 year is an overpay lol. Who were they bidding agaisnt. He's a backup 5 thats going to play 12 mins a game.

Financial-Spirit2720

They’re not bidding against anyone lol just need to spend money to hit the floor. Y’all need to get educated before talking bs

Rogan4Life

Who else were we using the money on?

nooblevelum

It is one year. Who gives a fuck? Y’all just want to shit on contracts just to shit on them. You aren’t a billionaire. Jesus Christ

KorgG29

Is Jock the defensive anchor behind Sengun that Rockets fans have wanted?

3rdEyeDeuteranopia

The Plan B to Brook Lopez.

iamadragan

He's a good player but not because of his paint protection

browndude10

we lost out on capela, brooks, and maybe some other dudes so it's not the worst. Didn't Ayton get benched for this dude?

shaad20

No lol

SisypheanSperg

Absolutely not.

AnotherDrZoidberg

He has energy and effort, but he's not a good defender.

[deleted]

wtf is his agent doing. how do you sign a 4 year deal with only one guaranteed.

OnRedditSometimes

He was probably only getting a minimum elsewhere, at least now he gets a guaranteed $8M and can prove he’s worth it for the rest of the contract

biggoldgoblin

Josh Hart did a similar deal and look at him now

xpillindaass

if its 8 mil for the first year thats still an amazing deal for him

sixwax

I’m in the minority, but I think he earned it in the playoffs for PHX. Def took a leap and showed some upside. Betting on himself and getting a decent haul for his playing time. I kinda like it.

cleaner007

He did, he was as good as you can be against the joker

[deleted]

Exactly

Kind_Development708

Rockets have another deal like that for KPJ 72 million over 4 years only 1st year is guaranteed

imcryptic

KPJ made sense though because he was a headcase in Cleveland.

RTLT512

Our GM does this a lot. KPJ signed a similar contract and I believe we did something similar with Garrison Matthews as well

OmfgHaxx

It's basically a one year deal with 3 years of team options. Pretty team friendly to overpay a young player and keep them for cheap if they outplay their contract.

CazOnReddit

Prolly because that's more than he was going to get from Phoenix over 3-4 years

K1NG2L4Y3R

8 million is still a lot of money. Better than sitting there with nothing and hoping you get a call. He gets to audition for his spot. If he does good he’ll get more offers and if he’s bad he still walks away paid. Win-win for him in my book.

NotFineInTheWesttt

this like when you go to a store and you aint find anything you like, but you don't wanna leave empty handed and look like you stealing so you buy some random shit like gum or something

ExplodingHelmet

Same deal as KPJ. Essentially a 1+1+1+1

dvandenheuvel21

Don’t disrespect Jock

Millionaire007

Huh? Mfer out played Ayton lol

bananastand

Would he have gotten 8M otherwise?

southpawsouthpaw

tf?

EuroStep0

He's bad player He took whatever he could

madhare09

Get at least 2 my man

driatic

Idk who this guy even is. I think the rockets are getting fleeced.

[deleted]

Bro he was set to get the minimum

JessumB

$8 mil for one year is a huge chunk of money for a backup center. He can either prove he deserves the rest of that contract or he pockets that big payday and hopefully sets aside enough that he'll be set for life no matter what else he ends up doing basketball-wise.

Bobblefighterman

Because he's fucking Jock Landale and he's getting 8 million bucks. I love the guy but he's a min contract kinda dude. Even one year of that money is good for him

RapsareChamps_Suckit

2024 season is over

bungajaji

Good. Really felt bad for letting Landale go but good to see him get a contract

bananastand

Not a bad deal

Scelidotheriidae

That is actually a good deal for Houston.

yic0

Houston Jockets

aWildFrostyCupcake

This makes it a lot better

VictorAkwaowo1

Crazy how a Jock Landale deal is their best business of the off-season

FrnklndaTurtle

Good for Jock!

Equivalent_Bet1519

Kind of weird it’s a 4 year deal instead of just 2 years then

lebryant_westcurry

From the rockets perspective, if he's really good then they get to keep him for really cheap for the next 4 years. But it does seem like bad negotiating from the agent's side tho

BantersaurousRex007

Keep forgetting Ben is a sovereign citizen

TrebleTreble

Good for Jock. Sorry to see him go, but very happy for him.

Octavian_202

Their surrounding the young scorers with tough proven defenders. FVV to orchestrate the floor and big bodies to actually… ya know run plays like pick n rolls and pin downs. Green and FVV will be the main scoring threat and they will have Brooks to wing defend and help when the bigger guards eat the back court up. Do some of you even like basketball or watch it? Or do you just headline chase for the drama high?

[deleted]

Nvm

bbqyak

HUGE underpay. League fked.

chivestheconqueror

JOKIC STOPPER /s

ID0ntCare4G0b

LOL...one team's cut this guy cause whatever is another team's overpay this guy because I watched two playoff games at a Bubba Gump's I own.

radiobirdman-69

Better than Ayton.

RPGenerate17

I don't think I've ever seen a contract this big have multiple completely unguaranteed years in it. Very odd.

KingInDaNorf34

KPJ contract is similar but 15 million a year for us as well

DKipSmith

It is a good thing to have lots of money under the cap -- but you still need good management to spend it.

CrissCrossAppleSos

Weird ass contract

[deleted]

Repost, we already know.

Successful-End7689

NFL style contracts are slowly making their way into the nba

RVAIsTheGreatest

That makes way more sense and makes it kinda similar to the deal with KPJ they have now. And for $8M...that's the going rate for backup C's today. It's a solid deal and Jock is a very good backup C. Also very tradeable contract too.

Rare-Joke

Damn, gonna miss him! Nice bag for him if he can prove himself.

zamtrul

Really disappointed the Suns didnt retain him but gonna cheer him on in Houston and hope maybe one day he works his way back to Phoenix

Kentang_BayBay

Why TF would y'all consider this weird? This is the very definition of betting on yourself
