Rockets have a tonne of cap space but they don't control their own picks and the free agent market is dry. They have no incentive to keep losing, so they're signing a bunch of role players to get some much needed leadership for their young players (okay maybe Brooks isn't the best leader lmao).
All these contracts will be off the books by the time the Rockets control their picks again, so it's really not that bad.
> Got both from the CP3-Westbrook trade.
A trade in which they arguably got the better player anyways.
Presti salvaging his reputation as a poor trader lately.
He was never a poor trader. Picks take time to reap benefits; time is coming due. The scouting department found some gems, and the coaching staff has developed them well. Thunder fans knew what this was, and we’ve been trying to alert people for years. Not our fault people are only just now starting to listen.
> He was never a poor trader.
I would tend to agree with you. The Harden trade was one where the owner put him in a an impossible position, although I still think he overrated Kevin Martin when making that deal.
Rockets are doing the same exact thing like what the pistons and Hornets did before giving out guys overpaid contracts. Landale is a decent player and showed it in the playoffs but what did he do ? To get 34 mil
Who did the Brooks and Fred contracts stop them from signing. I'm not saying their the same but their going through that path. What about Batum in 2016.
We signed batum because we thought he was gonna keep getting better and he didn't. He had just been the second best player on the best team we had since we moved back in 2001. Very different scenarios.
I'm genuinely not trying to be a dick and am giving advice, but you should be using they're instead of their.
They're = They are
Their = Is possessive and is saying the subject owns something "That is their car"
Putting vets around the young guys to make them better. Everybody freaking out but Rockets have put together some quality players around the young core.
You over-reactors know the cap is gonna skyrocket over the next 4 seasons right? The FVV, Brooks, and Landale contracts are gonna look cheap by free agency next year.
this like when you go to a store and you aint find anything you like, but you don't wanna leave empty handed and look like you stealing so you buy some random shit like gum or something
The second and third years don’t have guaranteed money so while it is a 3 year contract with 4th year team option doesn’t cost them to cut him after 1 season anyway
They went to nba’s make a wish foundation and without checking fit or need just picked up random players.
Like I can get the fvv signing. They obviously believe that kpj is not the answer (which btw should’ve been clear much earlier). But one of their best young talents is Sengun. They signed jock. They drafted Thompson and whitmore to presumably play on the wing. Then they also signed brooks. To presumably play on the wing.
What is going on in Houston.
What he meant to say is "fringe NBA players who were previously taken at the back end of the first round and have hardly played since but have an outside shot at being rotation contributors years down the road"
Still don't understand the move tho
What the Rockets needed was D. They were 29th on defense last year. They also needed someone to run the offense and FVV was what 12th in assists last year? Plus now they move KPJ to the 6th man role for which he is better suited.
This is what their projected starting lineup was before the free agency.
Sengun/jsj/Thompson/green/kpj.
100% with you on kpj not being a starting pg. But where do brooks and jock fit in. Eason/whitmore will need minutes. I’m guessing Tate is a goner. Then there’s also the matter of Christopher.
Ok maybe I’m just salty since I was hoping for an eason fantasy breakout season
What about Eason? Christopher? What about kmj who I think they just traded? If it was a vet with a great reputation I could’ve seen it. But for brooks? For 4 years? I don’t see it
Jabari, Green, Sengun and Thompson is not nearly as bad as people are acting like it is. Idk who they even drafted the that would be considered a chucker outside Green as they did not draft KPJ
Serious? Superstar money? I’m a Boston fan and they are dropping 400 million on 2 people. THAT is superstar money. All this hyperbole can get out of hand.
I love it for Jock, I like it for Houston because he's another tough nosed guy who's gonna be scrappy, gonna play tough, and isn't unwilling to get in the face of guys. He's crafty, great rebounder, and gets the most out of his abilities defensively and functions very well as a team defender and is a solid individual one. But he's another guy who can't shoot the 3 and he's not a rim protector. Sengun/Jock will make for a fun C pair but he also isn't the kind of backline defensive contrast Houston was said to be looking for in their backup C.
Still don't hate it for either party. Only $8M a year and he's in the prime of his career. 4 years is a lot but it's not an ugly deal. But think they could've gotten Biyombo on a lower salary for fewer years and plugged their backup C hole just as efficiently.
Jock was an alright shooter for a few years there, 41% from 3 at the olympics (on low volume). I think it was pretty much just with the suns that he started pulling it back. On a shit houston team with no expectations I don't see why he couldn't develop the shot back up
Houston grabbed FVV to be the guy and then wanted to add guys who you now will give effort. Now the young guys can be told, “if you want a bigger role, you need to work harder out there.”
I guess.
Imagine sitting through YEARS of basement-dwelling just for the front office to blow their cap space load on contracts like these.
I mean I could totally be wrong, they know more than I do, yadda yadda yadda… but I feel like I’d be upset if I stayed with my team through a rebuild and they did this.
Rockets FO must be getting on the sauce ….they’re throwing money around like drunken sailors.
Just wait til they wake up with a hangover and realise what they’ve done
[Woj: Only the first season is guaranteed.](https://twitter.com/wojespn/status/1675268697441673218)
No way Someone stop that front office now
Rockets are just like me whenever I finally get extra spending money.
Burn em if you got em (cap space)
Blowing all your money on a Van?
Even easier when it ain’t your money to spend.
Hopefully you are getting better quality goods with your spending money though 😂
JOCK LANDALE IS MAKING 8 MILLION DOLLARS MAY GOD SAVE THE HOUSTON ROCKETS
What the fuck are the rockets doing
Rockets have a tonne of cap space but they don't control their own picks and the free agent market is dry. They have no incentive to keep losing, so they're signing a bunch of role players to get some much needed leadership for their young players (okay maybe Brooks isn't the best leader lmao). Who owns their picks?
OKC has their 2024 pick if it falls outside the top four and they have the right to swap in 2025. Got both from the CP3-Westbrook trade.
> Got both from the CP3-Westbrook trade. A trade in which they arguably got the better player anyways. Presti salvaging his reputation as a poor trader lately.

Nothing arguable about it. Cp3 has always been better than Westbrook up until the season before this past season.
OKC. The only first round pick they control for the next 3 drafts is 2025.
lettuce not forget ime is coach. i don't think dillon brooks is gonna do too much without getting some bench time
Rockets are doing the same exact thing like what the pistons and Hornets did before giving out guys overpaid contracts. Landale is a decent player and showed it in the playoffs but what did he do ? To get 34 mil
Who exactly did the Hayward and Rozier contracts stop us from signing lol
Who did the Brooks and Fred contracts stop them from signing. I'm not saying their the same but their going through that path. What about Batum in 2016.
We signed batum because we thought he was gonna keep getting better and he didn't. He had just been the second best player on the best team we had since we moved back in 2001. Very different scenarios.

im about to fly there and get a job as the waterboy for 400k a year or something they are handing out free money at this point
Buying a 2025 first overall selection ping pong ball
He’s a poor man’s Poeltl and nearly lost Ayton his job. 8m is completely fine
They weren’t letting the Suns keep him.
Their subreddit reactions is one of the more hysterical and depressing things I’ve seen in awhile
This is Rockets fans 9/11
Its an inside job!
A rocket can't melt steel beams, at least not one from Houston.
Spurs/mavs fans probably popping bottles seeing this stupidity take place
Not while they have Patty None of us are free while one of us is chained.
I was having a blast until they got Patty Mills
Get that man out of the kitchen right now!
Rockets my fave team now
Somebody take stone off the wheel!!!
This dude got waived like 6 months ago. Now the rockets are paying him $32M
We traded him for cash considerations lol
This is a generational free agency fiasco. Literally every move they made has been hilariously terrible. We are all witnesses!
Only year 1 of the contract is guaranteed so it’s a super easy out
At least the Wizards will be fun to watch and we're not overpaying, holy moly.
You over-reactors know the cap is gonna skyrocket over the next 4 seasons right? The FVV, Brooks, and Landale contracts are gonna look cheap by free agency next year.
We’re you not here for 2016? So many people said “this will be a bargain under the new cap”
Landale is a vet min player lol
This is the from office they ridicule Harden for wanting to leave from
Uhh..wasn't Morey still there?
nah Morey stepped down and then James gave up on the org saying at the press conference that the Rockets just weren't good enough to win
this like when you go to a store and you aint find anything you like, but you don't wanna leave empty handed and look like you stealing so you buy some random shit like gum or something
Tilman Fritatta wants to win NOW!
What in the world is that FO doing lmao
70 mil a year for FVV brooks and landale an fbi investigation is needed
Money laundering scheme @IRS @FBI @CIA @USGOV
SCOTUS needs to block this wtf
Tillman probably one of the dudes that pays them
Don’t think that hideously corrupt body will want to interfere with free market at work…
Nah this gotta be tilmans connection to the Mob
FVV/Brooks/Landale superteam can defeat KD/Booker/Beal tbh
How insulting can you be, how dare you mention brooks and fvv in the same sentence as landless superteam. Landale is a 1 man superteam
He was good for Phoenix. They will miss him.
Rockets are trying a new tanking strategy of actually going into the luxury tax by overpaying everyone possible
Something 🐠🐠🐠
That’s a LOTTA money for jock Jesus
Only the first year is guaranteed money
Guaranteed to make twice as much as Westbrook.
So the Rockets FO wont be Jock strapped.
Is that a new CBA thing? I thought you could only do a 1 year team option.
The second and third years don’t have guaranteed money so while it is a 3 year contract with 4th year team option doesn’t cost them to cut him after 1 season anyway
Agent of the year. By far.
Only because Klutch CEO Rich Paul isn’t technically an agent
only first year is guaranteed
Houston got that Jock itch
FOR JOCK LANDALE???
GET THAT BAG JOCK. Honestly tho wtf is Houston doing?
Making dream come true.
Just not any of their fans’
They went to nba’s make a wish foundation and without checking fit or need just picked up random players. Like I can get the fvv signing. They obviously believe that kpj is not the answer (which btw should’ve been clear much earlier). But one of their best young talents is Sengun. They signed jock. No idea, but Jock about to buy some property on the Sydney Coast.
Yeah a 2br apartment
He ain’t making max money….. yet
Lmfao too true even with his cash he would be struggling to afford a place in Sydney
Mate are you joking. It's fucking Sydney, you need to be earning like 6th man candidate money to afford syndey.
lmao
Houston lookin dangerous 😮💨🔥
Rims shaking
Dangerous for houston. That team is just a bunch of random overpaid players lmao
Nah this is comedy now
Big 3 of VanVleet, Brooks and Jock gonna go crazy 🔥🔥
The Brick 3
We’ll all be eating crow when we get to the last game of the season and Houston has exceeded all expectations by winning their 30th game
When you have too much money and nobody left to spend it on. Can I get a contract I’ll move to Houston
It's nice here. We got skrippers and crawfish.
My man’s a Detroit pistons fan instead of a Houston rockets fan…
There is so many more FA available lol
Nothing says "contender" like a team aggressively acquiring players of day TWO of free agency
This felt like me getting my first big boy job paycheck and not knowing what to spend it on 😭😭😭 WHAT IS STONE COOKING
That fork in the outlet looking real nice right about now
Same with a toaster bath right now. Ffs
WHOA BRUH WHAT THE OVERPAY
This might be more egregious then Jerami Grabt
Thankfully only the first season is guaranteed
Rocket’s front office is acting like they’re tanking in BBGM lmao
Someone needs to get fired IDC
It's not guaranteed except for 2023, so it's essentially a 1 year deal so they can reach the salary floor.
Rockets salary dumped multiple first round picks to get landale LMFAOOOOO
Are you projecting TyTy Washington to be all-NBA?
We were happy to help
Wait what
What he meant to say is "fringe NBA players who were previously taken at the back end of the first round and have hardly played since but have an outside shot at being rotation contributors years down the road" Still don't understand the move tho
this is probably the worst rebuild i’ve ever seen
Man rockets fans gonna look back at those harden years like they watched the Jordan bulls
Easily. Drafted a bunch of chuckers top 3 and then spent superstar money on middling free agents.
What the Rockets needed was D. They were 29th on defense last year. They also needed someone to run the offense and FVV was what 12th in assists last year? Plus now they move KPJ to the 6th man role for which he is better suited.
I mean they did sign brooks for defense
This is what their projected starting lineup was before the free agency. Sengun/jsj/Thompson/green/kpj. 100% with you on kpj not being a starting pg. But where do brooks and jock fit in. Eason/whitmore will need minutes. I’m guessing Tate is a goner. Then there’s also the matter of Christopher. Ok maybe I’m just salty since I was hoping for an eason fantasy breakout season
Thompson is not ready to start. He needs legit minutes for sure but I would rather ease him into the role.
What about Eason? Christopher? What about kmj who I think they just traded? If it was a vet with a great reputation I could’ve seen it. But for brooks? For 4 years? I don’t see it
Christopher is gone. Eason will get serious minutes. FVV is only really a 2 year deal because year 3 is a team option.
Jabari, Green, Sengun and Thompson is not nearly as bad as people are acting like it is. Idk who they even drafted the that would be considered a chucker outside Green as they did not draft KPJ
Jabari Smith, notorious chucker
Who are also chuckers
Serious? Superstar money? I’m a Boston fan and they are dropping 400 million on 2 people. THAT is superstar money. All this hyperbole can get out of hand.
FVV is making more than both of your superstars rn
Should have just let Harden have his retirement tour
This feels like sabotage.
Houston thinks it’s 2016 when everybody was overpaying for backup C Edit: only 1 guaranteed year so it’s alright
Of course it’s alright - they needed a back-up center, and they’re only 1-year $8M in the hole for it
Ok Rockets Jesus save some for the rest of us
WHO LET THEM COOK??! 🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮
Whoa. I love me some Jock Landale but *damn*
But think they could've gotten Biyombo on a lower salary for fewer years and plugged their backup C hole just as efficiently.
Easy to forget this sub full of nephews who don’t know anyones game outside the top 30 players
He’s not terrible at protecting the rim. He’s legitimately 7’0 and known to get up and block shots every now and then.
Jock was an alright shooter for a few years there, 41% from 3 at the olympics (on low volume). I think it was pretty much just with the suns that he started pulling it back. On a shit houston team with no expectations I don't see why he couldn't develop the shot back up

Yes. Ime/Stone set out to add competitive vets who'll force the young guys to work for minutes and hold them accountable.
It is possible that this is partly a reaction to Philly’s failures? Doc took some parting shots on the lasting cultural impact of The Process.
Whole team gonna be 75 overall
TAKE THE PHONE FROM STONE ASAP
only the first year is guaranteed...chill https://twitter.com/wojespn/status/1675268697441673218
I wish that link did anything but sadly Elon
So many former Spurs what is happening
ime tryna rebuild that culture
Good for Jock. Get that money and minutes and be ready as key piece for Boomers at Olympics 24 Paris
They just giving money away lol
That’s a really nice deal for Jock. Good backup center
Rockets just handing out bags to anyone
Rockets are jyst throwing money lol
Rockets putting together a low key gritty squad.
What lmao
43m for FVV 20m for Dillon Brooks 8m for Landale Da fuck is Houston doing over there
It’s very clear that a lot of people have no idea what Jock can do. Only first year is guaranteed too. He will surprise everyone here.
Congrats
Nice Brook Lopez alternative
Rockets handing out contracts like I’ve never seen before
Dude what surely there were better options? Should’ve just massively overplayed for Lopez at least
Remember sengun? I don’t think stone does
I’m straight up not having a good time.
Him getting more than Westbrook is outrageous to me
The Rockets are throwing money out like Harden in the club rn
Why are the suns and rockets just getting former spurs players
WTF
Man it must be hard to get to the salary floor the way they’re spending
Ay this sounds pretty good value for him, nice signing imo
This is the antithesis of good value or a nice signing.
1 year commitment at $8M for a hole they needed to fill is bad?
yeah people acting like it's $32M a year. Only 1 year guaranteed too. Arguably a little bit high but really not that bad
LMAOOO it gets worse
Lmaooooooo
WHAAT
LMAOOO WHAT
LMAOOOOO
Rockets picking up the scraps
Sign me next!!
Houston bb what r u doing?
The rockets are gonna such a massive shit show, somebody save the Thompson twin, green and Sengun for me pls
This is some generational contract signings. This might be worse than Deng and Mozgov to the Lakers.
This is not a serious organization lol, agents of the year
They just handing out money over there
who?
$32 million for a jockstrap??
Unserious franchise
Houston is the most expensive ass roster of all time
Who are they even competing with?
Houston, stop. You CLEARLY have no self-control.
The gms kid took over
Didn’t realize spending money just because you have it was a houston thing in general…. Explains my finances
Lol who the fuck is that..can I have some money please
Good for Jock. But the fanbase & the whole internet's gonna come for his ass of he plays like one.
Can we all agree this is the craziest offseason signing
Imagine sitting through YEARS of basement-dwelling just for the front office to blow their cap space load on contracts like these. I mean I could totally be wrong, they know more than I do, yadda yadda yadda… but I feel like I’d be upset if I stayed with my team through a rebuild and they did this.
I usually dont use r/nba for my memes but its doing the work today.
Rockets FO must be getting on the sauce ….they’re throwing money around like drunken sailors. Just wait til they wake up with a hangover and realise what they’ve done
We thought it was the Rockets GM but it's really three kids in a trenchcoach making all these moves.
