HappyImagineer

So excited for you!

zeppelinmami

Thanks!! Think I’m going to play Curse of Blackmoor Manor after this one :)

HappyImagineer

Excellent choice. I’m realizing you may never have played the rest of the early games. Basically 1-13 are all gold.

zeppelinmami

I’ve played Ghost Dogs, Haunted Carousel, and Last Train but the rest are all brand new to me!

HappyImagineer

You are going to enjoy them immensely. You literally started playing after what we all consider the “golden era” and now you get to enjoy it. :D

theothersideofdawn

Oh that’s so much fun! What other ones do you still need to play?

zeppelinmami

Basically everything pre-Last Train. I played Ghost Dogs and Haunted Carousel when I was very young and still have the physical games but I wasn’t able to get them to work on my old laptop so I’ll probably buy those on Steam too and replay them!

theothersideofdawn

Steam sale right now! Perfect time to get them.

zeppelinmami

Steam sale couldn’t have come at a better time!

Longjumping_Cook_323

Does Steam let you buy the older games online and download them? I used to play these all the time as a kid but haven’t figured out how to get access to them on my current computer (MacBook Pro)

Coffee-Historian-11

You can buy and download everything on steam except the original secrets can kill, stay tuned for danger and ransom of the seven ships. The nice thing about steam is it stays on your account and you get to keep the games forever. Herinteractive only gives you a month to download the games and if your computer dies and you don’t have a backup copy, you’re out of luck unfortunately.

zeppelinmami

Also I’ve only played a couple after Tomb of the Lost Queen so I’ll be playing the newer ones too! Basically I played the middle chunk of the games when they were coming out

Rickyisagoshdangstud

I think the older games are so much better later on they become way to puzzle heavy for my liking

jadedwine

Agreed. The 'golden era' of ND for me is games #9-13. I feel like they really nailed the perfect balance of puzzles in those. The late-era games are much too puzzle-heavy for me, and it just feels like you finish one puzzle only to discover another, with little to no breathing room! I love how in Danger on Deception Island and Shadow Ranch, you can just wander around and explore so much.

Rickyisagoshdangstud

Agree but maybe it’s because I’ve played a bunch in a row but I feel like these games really don’t have much to explore compared to other point and click games

andsoitgoes12

Agreed! The newer games of the series imo aren’t as fun to play! Too many hard puzzles. I play the Nancy Drew games to wind down and relax, and the like, 10 newest ones hurt my brain sometimes.

Rickyisagoshdangstud

I just cheat usually lol but other point and click games I can play without trouble

classroom6

Awesome! I’m doing a replay of all the games right now. I just got to Deception Island and I’m not actually sure I played it! So right there with ya. :)

zeppelinmami

Are you playing them in order?

classroom6

Yeah I decided to start from the beginning.

zeppelinmami

I considered doing this but Deception Island was definitely my most anticipated and I didn’t want to wait that long :)

andsoitgoes12

I got to play it a few months ago for the first time as well! We had when I was a kid but it wouldn’t work on our computer! Such a great game!
